Abedezar is immediately drawn to the tree, and examines it intently. He also searches it for magical auras.

Abedezar slashes at the neck of the remaining skeleton, and while he hits the bone cleanly, he fails to swing hard enough to cut through whatever magic is holding it together.

"Dese are damned tough," he remarks. "I've seen living men die to hits like that."

Moved myself to make it legal. Assuming the stairs are difficult terrain it was a 30' move and the skeleton is now 20' away. I'd only get to throw the first dart, which is, conveniently enough, the one that actually did damage.

With a spinning flourish, Abedezar sends both his darts streaking toward the skeleton struck by the force missile. The first cracks into the skeleton's skull, chipping off a large piece, while the second lodges into its ribs, but fails to do any real damage. The skeleton crumples, unable to sustain the twin blows of dart and missile. Abedezar then shifts his kukri from his tail to his hand.

Full attack on the skeleton struck by the missile. Free action to pass my Kukri from my tail to my hand.

Dart 1 Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Dart 1 Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Dart 2 Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Dart 2 Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Both darts hit due to the Skeletons being flat footed. The first dart does 3 total damage, while the second fails to pierce its DR. Assuming it has standard skeleton hp (4 hp) it falls.

Abedezar pauses from his mundane game played with normal cards and opens his belt pouch, fishing out an old, ornate wooden box. "Ya need ta ask a question, or 'bout a certain situation or event or whateva," the tiefling says, flashing a toothy grin. "I think we all know whadja wanna hear about, though."

With that he opens the box revealing a particularly well made set of harrow cards, its intricately lacquered colors and gilt covering bone-white wood. Abedezar shuffles the thin tiles deftly and quite carefully, he obviously does not want to damage the heirloom deck. After shuffling he deals nine cards face down in rows of three. "Now don't be touching da cards," he says, "it's impolite."

"Da first three cards represent da past," the fortune-teller says as he turns over the upper left card, revealing a dwarf in hues of brass and bronze. "Da Brass Dwarf... you felt, invulnerable, or above others in da time immediately before all dis," he flips the next card, revealing a salamander and a water weird bound together. "Da Marriage says dat's because of whateva group you were with," Abedezar says as he flips the last card, which portrays a scene of people in motley and metallic masks. "Da Carnival says that was all a lie, just an illusion."

"Now, as to da present," he continues, flipping all three cards to reveal a humanoid tiger wearing fine clothes and jewelry; a man sitting upon a wagon drawn by oxen, whip in hand; and a creature with the body of a lion whose head is replaced by the torso, arms and head of a woman. "Da Rakshasa, da Teamster, da Lamia. Dey all say dat something outside of you is guiding your actions. Slavery, external control, doomed love, some tryst send you dis way did it?" Abedezar asks, a subtle tone of mockery in his voice that quickly passes.

"But what does the future hold? Dat's what dey always wanna know." The tiefling says, half to himself, as he flips the lower left card, revealing a pearlescent horse with a spiral horn on it's head. "Da Unicorn, a gift freely given, maybe dat silver key, or whateva it unlocks? But is it a gift at all?" he says as he flips the next card, revealing a man crawling through an alley filled with corpses. "Da Sickness makes me wary, is the gift cursed, or merely the path to it? Perhaps the final card can say, neh?" Abedezar let's out a bit of a laugh as the final card is revealed. Two golden eyes peer out from a white, avian face as it flies over a snow covered plain on a moonlit night. "Ah, da Owl, it gives us no answer. Is the wisdom foretold the gift? Or is the gift merely a curse and your survival of it, the path to wisdom? Only way to find out is by doing, in this case."

My warpriest and the ranger are both ranged, so currently our melee consists of a rogue and an eidolon. Any full BAB melee character would work.

"The Harrow is a method of divination, traditionally used by my Varisian ancestors. My mother taught me its ways, and whether because of my blood or my goddess, Irez, I can read true." the gambler explains.

"As to a silver key," Abedzar continues, fishing it from his belt pouch, "I won mine in a game of cards around, say, a decade ago. Don't really know why I kept the damned thing, but it led me here after that pirate showed up." After a brief pause he speaks again, "To be honest, don't really know why I came, damned foolish idea."

The uncomfortable voyage behind him, Abedezar is happy to indulge in whatever kind of hospitality the pirate has left for him. He enters the manor to find a high-born lady, a cutpurse, and well... honestly he has no idea what the little grey-skinned pauper is. "Well, well. Who are you fine folks?" the gambler says, in the common tongue, with a thick Varisian accent. "You can call me Abedezar Mavashti, Harrower and gambler by trade." he finishes as he saunters over to the table and sits, indulging in the same bread and gravy as the cutpurse.

With a smug smile Abedezar continues in a mocking tone, "Also, I thought you should know, your knowledge of the Harrow is feeble. You won't fool anyone who actually knows what they're doing."

Sorry about the long time between posts. Flying to Paris today and my last few days have been taking up a lot of my time.

"I wonder what this guy thinks he's doing. This is my turf." Abedezar thinks, slightly offended at the obvious breach in street protocol. The tiefling tries to remember if he's seen this sailor anywhere.

Know: Local: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

With that, Abedezar cuts the sailor's deck, but remains silent, unwilling to give away knowledge to the unknown man.

Abedezar here, ready to tell the fortune of our enemies. (Hint: it looks short and painful.)

This is Kenji from earlier in the thread presenting Abedezar Mavashti, Tiefling Warpriest of Varisian heritage who worships Irez, Empyreal Lord of gamblers and Harrowers, among others. All the information in this post is also in my profile. I use HeroLab and will send you the portfolio at your request. Also, I assumed that I'd be allowed to take Varisian instead of one of the normal tiefling bonus languages since we're in Golarion.

An aside:

While building this character I found out that ranged warpriests are very MAD. Dex to hit, Str for Damage, Con for HP, Wis for spells and some class features, Cha for other class features, and Int because they're a 2+Int skills class. Dumping any stat hurts a lot, and being mediocre at all the stats makes a weak character. I would recommend only building a melee warpriest at low point buy, since you can have crappy dex to shore up your Con, Cha, and Int.

Appearance:

Unlike most tieflings, Abedezar looks almost completely human. Only a few of his features give away his fiendish heritage: he has a long, prehensile tail; bright green eyes with cat-like slitted pupils, and slightly pointed ears. He is tall and lithe and dresses in the same loose, complex-patterned garb of the Varisians he grew up with. He is rarely without his wide-brimmed hat, dark red (nearly black) scarf, and gold-embroidered red cape. He carries only a kukri and some darts for weaponry, and wears no visible armor, though the careful observer can occasionally hear the clink of chain as he moves.

This plus a tail, green eyes, and slightly pointed ears is generally how Abedezar should look.

Personality:

Abedezar Mavashti is mercurial but purposeful, and always ready with a gibe. He is primarily self interested but quick to help others if he can see a way to use it to his benefit. However, he generally doesn't do things to harm others because he sees it as counterproductive, or a waste of time in most cases. Abedezar is simultaneously a gambler, ready to throw his fate to the winds, and a fortune teller, prying into the secrets of the future. He takes calculated risks constantly, and it has served him well.

Abedezar has a passion for pleasure and fun. He never lets a day pass without gambling, playing darts or a board game, drinking liquor, or engaging in carnal activities. He becomes very moody and nearly despondent without his daily dose of joy.

The tiefling's connection to his god is a somewhat strange one. He's half reverent and half indifferent to Irez, but for one who has the blood of deity-hating asuras coursing through him, it's amazing he has respect for any god. Abedezar's never disrespectful to deities or priests, but he's rather wary of them.

Background:

Abedezar is the son of Zelazanna Mavashti, a Varisian prostitute from Magnimar, and an unknown man. At birth, Abedezar looked like a normal human child: no tail, normal eyes, normal ears. Around 7 years old his fiendish taint began to manifest, and his mother threw him out on the street. Abedezar eventually fell in with a group of street children, where he made himself useful with his natural talent for gaining information and telling lies. Eventually he gained some negative attention from the Scarni by running a smalltime gambling operation on their turf in the Underbridge district. He talked his way out of it, and impressed the gangsters, who invited him to join their own operation.

His reputation began to grow as a gambler, and over the decades, Abedezar won the equivalent of a few small fortunes. Sadly this money was owned by the Sczarni, and the gambler himself got very little of it. As all of his friends began to grow old, Abedezar's tiefling blood kept him young. Zelazanna, now on her death-bed while Abedezar persisted in the prime of youth, tried to reconcile with her long estranged son. In her last week of life, she gave her son the family Kapenia and Harrow Deck and taught him the rudiments of Harrowing. Abedezar was still too angry with his mother to fully accept her apology, but it still gave her some peace as she died.

Over the next years, Abedezar continued to gamble, drink, and chase women, but he slowly became a noted Harrower as well, even though it is usually viewed as a thing of women. His talent at both Harrow and gambling eventually led him into contact with the Empyreal cult of Irez, a rather popular Empyreal Lord among Harrowers. Although his asura blood gave him a natural hesitance toward all things divine, Abedezar came to respect the Lady of Inscribed Wonder, eventually becoming a strange kind of priest within her Cult.

A decade ago, a Harrow reading Abedezar performed for himself lead him to an odd, mysterious man from a land far from Varisia. The man would only call himself 'Stranger' and offered Abedezar a bet that he almost immediately refused, a silver key against the tiefling's heirloom Harrow Deck. Against his better judgement, and almost against his will, Abedezar accepted the bet, and beat the man at cards, winning the silver key. When he asked what the key was for, the man was nowhere to be seen, and Abedezar hasn't seen him since, though he's kept the key for just over 10 years.

Today, Abedezar still makes his living by gambling for the Sczarni and performing Harrow readings.
