BTW thanks for running a great game. I had a lot of fun and even with the compressed schedule, we managed to enjoy a little role-play. Overall it has been one of the better online experiences I have had so fare.

Curious! Aarion was unconscious and bleeding when the event ended. Am I to assume that the society healed him?

After receiving the icy cold embrace of the Simulacra, Aarion crumples to the ground.

Stabilize: 1d20 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 - 1 = 6

Aarion knocks another arrow, fires and then moves back.

(Standard action) Attack the red Simulacra, (Move action) Move back 20'

(Attack) MW Composite Longbow: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 6 + 1 = 26

Aarion pulls back a bit and knocks another arrow in anticipation of the next manifestation.

(Standard action) Ready to fire at a Simularca if it begins to cast a spell.

(Attack) MW Composite Longbow: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 6 + 1 = 16 (Attack includes Bless. Add another +1 for precise shot if it is within 30')

Aarion studies the movements of the blue Simularca then draws back his mighty bow and fires at the manifestation.

(Move action) Study target on blue, (Standard action) Fire at blue.

Aarion quickly makes his way to the other side of the room.

(Full round action) Double move to the other side of the room.

Question: is the pathway between the electrical pillars safe to move through, or is the electricity arcing to the point it is unsafe? Also is the grease spell still active?

Aarion, once again, draws back his bow and fires an arrow at the red Simulacra. After releasing the shot, the inquisitor moves back to a distant vantage spot.

(Standard action) Attack the red Simularca using the attack #2 from my previous post, which I am assuming misses, (Move action) Move 20'

Acrobatics: 1d20 ⇒ 13 (In case grease is still active.)

Attack was a (10) +1 for bless.

Assuming they are not target-able until the end of the second round, Aarion will use his first attack as a ready action (If either begin to cast a spell, he will target that one and fire.)

Can the simulacra be attacked as they are manifesting? If so Aarion would begin attacking at range for both the rounds they take to manifest. If for some reason they can not be targeted during the manifestation period, then apply the following attacks as (1) ready action, (2) disregard if not viable.

Aarion moves to the side of the room, placing the small alcove to his flank. After gaining, what he considers a better vantage point, the inquisitor draws back his bow and fires at one of the manifestations, as the begin to materialize.

Once relocated, Aarion observes the simulacra carefully. After evaluating the process he draws another arrow and fires once again at the image.

Stepping back, Aarion studies the movement of the blue Simulacra and then fires another arrow at the illusion.

While carefully observing the blue Simularca, Aarion draws back his bow and waits for the best opportunity to fire.

"Should we fight these things or try to push past them and into the next room?"

Upon calling off the elemental, Aarion accepts the surrender in behalf of the group. As a contingency to the surrender, the inquisitor disarms the Harbingers and stabilizes anyone who has fallen in combat.

After securing the area, Aarion begins questioning the leader. How do we undo this shift in time? Where is the Skykey and how do we regain control of it?

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 <----yuck!
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 <----YUCK! Here comes all the less than desirable rolls.

During the questioning, Aarion turns to the rest of the group. "We need to search this place."

After putting the flames out, Aarion calls out to his companions. "We should accept their surrender. It is not to late to turn things around and we may need their help to undo this mess."

Alarmed by the flames that have erupted all around him, Aarion steps back and begins patting out the fire that has engulfed him.

What was in the bottle? Is Aarion on fire, or looking to take additional damage next round? Hopefully it was a bottle of whisky!

After adjusting slightly to his right, the inquisitor calls to Sarenrae for added protection and then begins studying the movements of the elemental.

(Standard action) Cast shield of faith on himself, (Free action) 5' adjustment, (Move action) Study target on the elemental.

Knowledge Planes?: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 (On the lightning elemental.)

"WE ARE NOT HERE TO FIGHT WITH THE SERVANTS OF ARODEN! By default, you serve a god worthy of our patience! Lower you bows so we can find common ground and a solution to this debacle together. I know about your plot to retrieve Aroden from this time. I also know that you have lost control over the key. Your self-destruction does not serve the will of Aroden. Only your survival can instill hope for his return."

"You have lost touch with your god, and for that I do not judge your extreme effort to reunite with him. By embracing this method, you will unravel Aroden's influence throughout history. This will, in turn, destroy his legacy. We must stop this event from happening, or the Harbingers and the pathfinders will both be removed from history, with nothing to offer in our absence."

“We have come to retrieve the stone that has been cast, and make the world whole again. Join with us, so we might correct this mistake. Do not leave the world wondering why the follower of a GREAT GOD has destroyed the memory of someone so immortally important to the world. PLEASE join with us!”

While reciting his views of the Harbingers intentions, Aarion begins visually looking for the keystone.

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14

With that, i'm wondering if we should scout out more harbingers vs. trying to enter the vault. What do you guys think?

While asking around for digging equipment, Aarion considers the local sewer system and begins asking how it relates to the depression.

Aarion begins asking around about burrowing equipment or people willing to dig.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19

“Assuming the ambient magic from the green glow doesn’t hamper the detection, if the vault is concealed with an illusion, detect magic might be able to pick it up.” Aarion says to Ranalus.

After reaching the location indicated by Ranalus, Aarion accepts the tongues spell from the master of scrolls. While watching for any more people clothed in the unusual garments of the Harbingers, the inquisitor begins asking around for unexplained changes in the environment, as it pertains to the vault.

As the group moves through the city, Aarion keeps an eye open for anyone dressed in the unusual garments of the Harbinger's.

"At this point, any opinion is welcome. I have no idea where to begin looking for the vault. Under normal circumstances I would ask around and see if any of the locals had any viable information, but with the language barrier I don't believe this is going to be an option. I have a spell (Comprehend language) that will allow me to understand their language, but It doesn't allow me to speak it. If we had more to go on, we could attempt to gather information through one of their libraries using the spell, as it allows me to understand their writing, but as it stands, I wouldn't even know which books to begin looking at.

"If we could find a cleric, bard, or wizard that has the ability to cast tongues, then we could attempt to gather information about the vault."

Aarion turns back to the master of scrolls. "What do we know about the vault?"

"To assume the maladies that have taken place over the course of time would not happen, in the event that you where successful, is short sighted. The fates have a way of balancing things. I have little doubt that those events would very well find different conditions to manifest."

"Anyway, we could speculate about the effects of altering time all day. At this point, I believe we are out of time, and we need to know what is the quickest way to the vault?"

(Regardless if the man gives instructions to the vault or not, Aarion turns to the group and suggest heading out. If no instruction is given, then Aarion will turn to the master of spells for guidance.)

In departure, Aarion glances back over his shoulder and utters a final statement. "You should know that your fortune was flawless. Your skill as a fortuneteller is something to be proud of. If we are successful, you will have a second chance. Don't waste it. Seek out the followers of Iomedae and join their ranks. Many of them also wait for Aroden's return."

“I understand your turmoil. I too feel an unyielding connection with my god. I understand that you, and those who continue to follow Aroden, feel that the unfulfillment of the Starfall Doctrine is a sign that Aroden is truly dead. Your faith should extend far beyond a mere prophecy. Prophecy's can be miss interpreted, forked over time, and (or) outright wrong.”

“Aroden's legacy is fare reaching and undeniably invaluable to those who were inspired by him. To remove Aroden from this time, would unravel all that he has done going forward. People such as you, who have chosen to live within Aroden’s legacy, would no longer recognize the man’s deeds. His accomplishments would no longer exist, nor would his legacy. Remove Aroden from his rightful place in time, and you will destroy the very nature of his existence. This will impact everyone in our time, including you. Yes the man may live, but his influence will have been erased. The stare stone would not have been raised, Taldor and all those within the great nation will have lost their patron deity, the inner sea will have never been created, and humanity will forever be changed.”

“I know your love for Aroden is restless, but at what cost do you attempt to embrace him. I doubt that Aroden himself would want his reinstatement to come at the expense of humanity. Besides, the unfulfillment of the prophecy isn’t proof that Aroden is dead. Many are awaiting his return, and have joined Iomedae in his absence. It isn’t too late. Help us return order to the world. Tell us what you know of the event we now face.”

heading Henrikuaxian's recommendations, Aarion begins to carefully layout cards that match the ones making the tower. On more than one occasion the inquisitor hesitates, and then glances over to Henrikuaxian. After considering the gnomes guidance, Aarion continues to lay his cards out in succession.

"My hand is ordained by the will of a god. I can not loose, less it be ordained by Sarenrae herself."

"Know that with each card I match, a ripple through time will reveal my destiny. The harbingers are meant to hear my words. My audience with them is meant to be."

As Aarion matches the last of his cards, he looks up into the mad man's eyes. "I have now played your game of fate. I have divulged my soul. Now it is time for you to honor your vow and help me complete my destiny. Show us to the Harbingers."

"Pointers are welcome, seeing I'm a beginner up against a skilled adversary. That's assuming advice is ok with my opponent."

I'm currently playing a Varisian bard (Arcane healer) in my weekly game. she is a gypsy who uses the harrow deck as her family heirloom. After spending some time trying to get to understand the deck, I realized how complicated it was. I gained a whole new level of respect for someone willing to take the time to master it.

"There was a time in my youth when I had the luxury of entertaining a young lady who also enjoyed a game of Towers. Unfortunately the evening didn't end well, but I managed to grasp some of the basics before her departing. Let me give it a whirl."

Bluff: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23

First time I have seen someone actually utilize the harrow deck in a society game. A welcome addition. )

Aarion pulls out a gold coin and holds it between his thumb and forefinger. "Your reading is in itself quite accurate. Your gift is undeniable. What I wish to know, before partaking any further into your skill, is what connection you have with the Harbingers. They have set a cycle of events into play, that I believe is destined to undo their very existence. This event would explain the cyclone's reappearance, as their plot could unravel time itself. I seek an audience with these Harbingers, so I can share some words of reason and enlightenment. Would you be able to facilitate such a meeting?"

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16

Aarion steps closer while opening up a conversation with the man in the robes. "It appears that you wear an unusual looking garment, sir. May I ask if you are associated with the Harbingers?"

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17

Aarion steps even closer and agrees to have his fortune told. "You are welcome to divine my fate. My road has already been paved by the will of Sarenrae. My present, holds only to her desire, and my past sheds a darkness that none can forget. Come harbinger, assuming that is what you claim to be. Come and see the world through my eyes."

"I thnk we should attempt to talk with them. We could always revert to killing them if diplomacy fails."

Aarion watches as the starstone draws closer. "I am ready to aid in what ever capacity is best. I see that time is short. What is needed of us, and where do we start?"

"What do we know about the Harbinger spell casters? What are their motivations, and what kind of temperament have they had in the past. Are they known to be evil or are they acting on a primes that they are doing good."

"They may feel that we have crossed a moral line when it comes to playing with time. I ask this because if they attacked the society in an attempt to correct our arrogance, their role in this may not be out of line. After all, who are we to thinking we could just stroll back in time and do what we please without it having sever repercussions. If this is the case then it might be better to speak with them. If they have a history of evil deeds, and this is just an attempt to gain the power of the key for themselves, then killing them would prove to be the better option."

Aarion will take the first option twice and regain two of his level 1 spell slots.

"Assuming we are successful in gaining our freedom, how do we intend to defeat that which we have already been unsuccessful in defeating?"

Aarion looks around for a moment, taking in the spectacle, and then begins addressing the master of scrolls. “How much time do you think we have? As it stands, we are somewhat depleted of resources from our previous engagements. Do we have time to rest and regain those resources, or are we pressed enough to move forward without them?”

“I have a spell that will allow me to understand these people, but I will need to rest through the night before I can cast it.” Aarion says to the group in a hushed voice.

Taking into account the differences between his native language (Varisian), and its ancient counterpart (Azlanti), Aarion decides to make a rough attempt at communication.

Without hesitation, Aarion shoulders his bow and holds out his hands in a nonthreatening manner.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

Aarion moves into the room and takes aim at the serpentfolk. Without hesitation the inquisitor fires upon the creature.

(Attack) MW Composite Longbow: 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 6 + 1 + 1 = 28

I realize that is the official ruling. I'm not disputing it what so ever.

It was of my opinion that anything directed by the caster, be it an attack role or not, should be affected by anything that alters the casters perspective. for instance, if someone cast a figment of a barricade, which blocked LOS. Would the missile ignore the figment, pass through the barricade, and strike the intended target? Would this be the case, even though the caster believes the figment to be real?

Anyhow, society= as written, so I am OK with the rule. I was only sharing an old man's opinion. I date back to the standard addition of AD&D and a lot of things have changed since then. Sometimes it becomes difficult the shake or separate the old from the new. )

Conjuring the last of his divine strength, Aarion calls to Sarenrae for added protection for the upcoming battle. After embracing the holy symbol around his neck, a protective membrane surrounds the inquisitor.

“Caution with these creatures, they are venomous and the snake will likely squeeze you to death, if it gets hold of you.” The inquisitor says as he begins carefully observing the large snake.

(Standard action) Cast shield of faith, (Move action) Study target on the large snake.

Although disagreeing with that quote is not in our best interest, I am going to say it anyway. I personally believe that it is the caster that targets what the magic missile is designated for, thus a believable image should be a plausible target for the missile. If it where the missile targeting the creature, then line of sight wouldn't be a variable when selecting a target. Any-way, that's just my opinion.

Aarion glances over to Ranalus as the elf begins speaking his mind about the devil's blood. Personally, I have no problem with Henrikuaxian's magic. The fact that devil's blood is being utilized during the casting of the spell, makes no difference to me. My soul can not be darkened any further than it already is by likes of the blood."

Lowering his eye slightly, the inquisitor continues. "That being said, I can see why any clean living soul would take offence to the process, and I don't blame you for your disdain of such things."

After acknowledging his companions preparedness, Aarion gathers up his provisions, has a small bite to eat, then prepares to continue on.

Assuming the group is prepared to move forward, Aarion is ready to continue. I am ok with heading to the temple.

I will second any of the core tables.

Once out of combat, Aarion pulls out his wand of cure light wounds and begins administering heals.

Heal on himself.
Wand of CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Heal on Ranalus.

As title: is it possible?

The reason why I ask this is because, as written, there's nothing keeping you from wearing / wielding your Soulforged Armament throughout the day as without the essence form it remains "until you Dismiss this effect", which I generally intend to just kinda not do. However, the essence form can only be manifested "Once per day when you use this ability..."

Hence, the question: can you do this when it's already manifested? Or, would you need to first dismiss the Armament with an action only to then manifest it again in its essence form with your next action? I'm pretty sure it would have to be dismissed first, but I wanted some other people's opinions.

The Blessed One dedication gives the player the ability to cast lay on hands as a devotion spell, among other things if you keep taking feats within that archetype, however, it doesn't mention what level of proficiency we have with it's DC as the rules on focus spells say it should.

If you get focus spells from a class or other source that doesn’t grant spellcasting ability (for example, if you’re a monk with the Ki Strike feat), the ability that gives you focus spells also provides your proficiency rank for spell attack rolls and spell DCs, as well as the magical tradition of your focus spells. You gain the ability to Cast a Spell and use any spellcasting actions necessary to cast your focus spells (see below). However, you don’t qualify for feats and other rules that require you to be a spellcaster.

Is it safe to assume that someone taking this would gain the proficiency listed in the devotion spells box from the Champion?

you are trained in divine spell attack rolls and spell DCs. Your spellcasting ability is Charisma.

Or by RAW would the player be untrained in the abilities they pick up from the feat? And, if it's the latter, then there's also no mention of which ability score should be used as a modifier, so would that still be Charisma? Because if that can be inferred, then why can't the proficiency be inferred?
