Devonalia Crystalwind
|
Devonalia sifts through the weapons brought to them for a padded shortsword, or two if there are enough- if not then a padded dagger as a replacement. Once she is equipped with two weapons, one in each hand, then she nods to Nala and the others.
Radagast the Brown
|
All good! Radagast is disgruntled, not his player :-P His whole shtick is that he spends his entire life in Wildshape, after all! That said, if I wasn't desperate to level Radagast up, I definitely would have brought my Monk to this scenario!
Sobek Al Saleef
|
Sobek finds a padded polearm much like his own. He gives it a few practice swings, pleased by the weapon’s balance.
"This will do."
| DM Carbide |
Are any of the people who successfully climbed the tower going to take the rod for one of your spellcasters instead of a masterwork weapon?
Desynthia Medzen
|
I can use the rod, if you don't need it. Or I could use some helpful, non lethal spells too. I'm not that much of a fighter, and neither are yu, I guess, Sylvester
Bull strenght, Bless and Magic weapon spells for anyone? I use mostly Summon monster usually, but that won't work here, and Magic Missile is my only "damage" spell, so maybe the rod would be more helpful in Sylvester's hands
Forgot my climb rolls from earlier!
climb: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
climb: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
climb: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
climb: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
climb: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
climb: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
climb: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
climb: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Hey, can someone send me a rope?
| DM Carbide |
As soon as Desynthia slips and falls, she is carried up to the platform by an invisible creature of air.
| DM Carbide |
Let me know when you're ready for the fight.
Keynala Smith
|
Nala nods at their test giver, she is ready.
Map? I am not seeing one, or is this just a string of attack rolls?
| DM Carbide |
I'll get the map up tomorrow.
| DM Carbide |
Desynthia, Radagast, and Sylvester--please place yourselves on the map.
| DM Carbide |
Let me clarify something before we move on: the only people who had a chance to take the rod were the ones who succeeded in climbing the spire. They had a choice between taking masterwork nonlethal weapon(s) or normal nonlethal weapon(s) plus the rod. So if Devonalia, Keynala, or Sobek wanted to take a lesser weapon, they could also get the rod and give it to Desynthia or Sylvester.
Incidentally, Radagast wasn't listed as a success because the only people who got +2 on the climbing trial were the ones who'd succeeded on the balancing trial, and Radagast had failed that one. So unless he was getting +2 from another source, he didn't manage the climb.
Keynala Smith
|
Finally understanding the reward, Nala makes her mind up very quickly. She accepts the rod and selects standard forms of her weapons. Handing the rod to Des she nods and then takes her position on the plateau.

In the interests of keeping things moving:
Round 1:
Initiative order
Sylvester
Keynala
Sobek
Devonalia
Desynthia
Radagast
Aramaya
Everyone can act!
Devonalia Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Keynala Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Radagast Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Sobek Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Sylvester Initiative: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Aramaya Initiative: 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 5 - 2 = 5
Aramaya: AC ? T ? FF ? HP taken: 0
Sobek Al Saleef

I gave our adversary the circle template to help distinguish her from among the other PCs.
Sobek offers a quick bow of respect to his adversary.
"It is an honor to challenge you in combat."
He steps to the side and swings his weapon into her side...
Padded guisarme: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Nonlethal: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (4, 2) + 4 = 10
Crit threat confirm vs. flat footed: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
nonlethal: 4d4 + 12 ⇒ (4, 1, 4, 4) + 12 = 25
I'm assuming the weapons are not masterwork or magical. Just basic, mundane weapons.
Devonalia Crystalwind
|
After seeing Sobek make the initial strike Devonlia blurts out "I think we found something you are really good at Sobek!"
For when her turn comes up Devonalia will move to a flanking position if possible for the flank bonus and sneak attack if it is allowed
Padded Short Sword; add 2 if flanking: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 … DMG Non Lethal: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Sneak DMG if allowed: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 5) = 15
and probably a miss
Radagast the Brown
|
Radagast steps into a flank, and attempts to kick and... gum...? the monk in a non-lethal fashion, hoping that striking before she has a chance to act will make a difference...
Talon: 1d20 + 9 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 9 + 2 - 4 = 8, for 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15 damage.
Talon: 1d20 + 9 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 9 + 2 - 4 = 9, for 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18 damage.
Bite: 1d20 + 9 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 9 + 2 - 4 = 16, for 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16 damage.
Foreclaw: 1d20 + 4 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 + 2 - 4 = 15, for 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 damage.
...however, his heart is clearly not in it.

Sylvester summons a pool of magical grease underneath their opponent.
"Let us see how good your balance really is."
Reflex DC 18 save or fall prone.

Devonalia-acted
Desynthia
Radagast-acted
Aramaya
Sobek runs his polearm into the monk's side, causing her to wince in pain before schooling herself. As Devonalia moves to attack, the monk stabs at her and hits for 11 points nonlethal damage. This discomfits the rogue sufficiently that she's unable to connect with her own attack. Radagast carefully claws and bites at her, connecting with the bite. Sylvester slicks the stone under her feet, and she barely manages to keep her footing.
Keynala and Desynthia to go!
Spear nonlethal damage: 1d8 + 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + (2) + 5 = 11

Nala strides up next to the biting and clawing animal and stabs her dulled trident at the monk.

Aramaya
As Keynala closes, Aramaya strikes at her as well, hitting for 17 HP nonlethal damage. This throws off the ranger's timing, and she can't connect with her trident.
Desynthia?
AoO nonlethal damage: 1d8 + 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (7) + (5) + 5 = 17
Desynthia Medzen
|
Desynthia supports her group's attacks with a spell, and encourage them with words
Cast Bless +1 to Hit and saves vs Fear for 5 mn
[b]Let's go Paffies!
| DM Carbide |
Desynthia, I'll assume that you step back before you cast or try to cast defensively--she's got a reach weapon and is close enough to get an AoO against you.
The monk bows to you all (a little stiffly, after Sobek's hit). "It's an honor to test arms against you, as well." Then she doesn't walk so much as skate along the stone surface so quickly that none of you are able to take advantage of her distraction. She ends on the other side of Sobek and stabs at him, hitting the fighter for 13 HP, and she also pushes you back 5'.
Round 2:
Initiative order
Sylvester
Keynala
Sobek
Devonalia
Desynthia
Radagast
Aramaya
Everyone can act!

Devonalia moves forward to attack the monk with her padded short sword...
Single Padded Short Sword: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10 … DMG: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
and misses yet again...
Sobek Al Saleef
|
It seems the monk moved quite a bit. Does Sobek get an attack of opportunity?
Sobek moves forward (5' step) and swings the polearm into her side again.
Padded guisarme: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
NL damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (4, 1) + 4 = 9
Keynala Smith
|
My guess from the text given, she used a Ki point to avoid any AoOs.
Nala’s eyes squint at the tricky movement. She sizes up the battle, ”We need to keep her in place or the advantage is hers. Can anyone trip her or magically keep her stuck there?”
The sea half-elf tries to avoid that dang spear while moving up to stab.
Acrobatics v CMD to Tumble: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Trident + Bless: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 8 + 1 = 27 for NL: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
| DM Carbide |
No AoOs, Sobek. See the flavor text for her movement, and also note that she burned a point of ki. Keynala, we cross-posted, so your actions were mooted by events on the ground.
Round 2 (ongoing):
Radagast runs into battle, eating a spear thrust for 21 HP nonlethal damage on the way in and ramming his head into her. She's not looking very steady on her feet after that shot, but manages to tag Devonalia as the chronicler closes for 24 HP nonlethal damage. Rocked by the blow, Devonalia misses.
Then Sobek steps closer and hits her in the head, laying her out and unconscious.
Out of combat!
Aeotsep smiles. "Your skills are as impressive as I would expect from the way you handled the previous trials."
Itephta alights at Aramaya's side and rouses her. She stands, still a little shaky, and bows low to the party. "Thank you all for the chance to compete. I have learned much that I need to consider carefully. Until later." She steps off the platform and is carried to the ground by invisible hands.
The invisible stalkers carry the party and the others back to the base of the spire, where Itephta, Aeotsep, and Menkha, the Ouat leader beg your pardon while they discuss the results of the trials. You're turned loose to wander the monastery grounds.
AoO damage to Radagast: 1d8 + 1d6 + 11 ⇒ (6) + (4) + 11 = 21
AoO damage to Devonalia: 1d8 + 1d6 + 11 ⇒ (7) + (6) + 11 = 24

| DM Carbide |
To keep things moving (I'd like to try to wrap this up before we get much further into the GameDay, as I'm the House GM for the 1E special), I'll start the next interaction with the caveat that people can do things retroactively in the time you're wandering about or in the immediate aftermath of the combat.
After a couple of hours, a junior monk tracks you down. He bows low in greeting before speaking. "You are requested to attend the Abbott in the Master's Room. Follow me, please."
He leads you into the monastery to a chamber off of the main hall. Itephta, Aeotsep, and Menkha are already there, seated on mats behind a low table. All three seem relaxed, and the Abbott smiles when you enter. "I am most impressed, Pathfinders. You are credits to your august Society, about which I have heard much over the years. The tales which I thought to be exaggeration in truth do not do you justice, and I find you to be acceptable recipients for this ancient relic." He indicates a plain but sturdy case at one end of the table.
"Before you leave, though, we would ask a favor of you. Our monastery is remote and receives little direct aid from Sothis and the great river cities of Osirion, and this distance has made us a target for a band of worshipers of Rovagug who recently became our neighbors. These so-called Doomsday Knights frequently attack caravans and pilgrims, and we have done what we can to protect the trails that lead here with the disciples we have. In fact, one of our own, a respected Ouat named Bertrag, disappeared several days before you arrived. At this point I assume he has perished; the cult is known for sacrificing intelligent creatures.
“Irori promotes self-perfection, but I do not confuse that with blind self-reliance when confronted with a true threat. Tar Kuata can guard travelers or strike at the cult’s heart, but it cannot do both. With your assistance, we might rid this land of the Rough Beast’s warriors once and for all.”
Devonalia Crystalwind
|
Devonalia listens to the briefing. Once he is done she says "Thank you for the kind words and we will help you if we can. What can you tell us about these Doomsday Knights? How they fight? How they dress? How they are armed and equipped? Where they frequent?"
Keynala Smith
|
Nala tries to rest up from the injuries received at the hands of the monks, but is interrupted by the summoning. She purses her lips and replies, ”Your best put a beat down on us. And though it wasn’t lethal, it will still take time or resources to heal. Do you have those resources? Or do we have that time? One night’s rest should work but… this seems urgent.”
Keynala Smith
|
Nala turns to the sorceress and gives her a bit of a glare that implies ‘obviously we can cure it ourselves, but that isn’t free.’
Though of course Des may interpret said glare in any number of ways. Facial emotions aren’t exactly perfect to read.
Sobek Al Saleef
|
"It was an honor, Aramaya." he says with a respectful bow after the combat challenge.
--------------------
When Sobek has a chance, he asks the monks if they have seen a special gemstone, known as a sage jewel. He mentions that it is of utmost importance that he may return the sage jewel to his superiors.
--------------------
"We will help in any way possible. It seems these Doomsday Knights need to be dealt with." He says as he taps the butt of his polearm on the ground.
Devonalia Crystalwind
|
if the next briefing takes place the day after the non lethal combat and we rested at night how much non lethal damage gets healed?
Desynthia Medzen
|
Sense motive on Nala: 1d20 ⇒ 13
Desynthia doesn't understand why Nala seems suddenly angry against her, and answer sincerely, nearly with anguish, her hair taking different hues as she pass through many emotions
Well, I don't like when my friends are hurt, that's all...We the Paffies have to cooperate and help each other. You fought for me, I can heal you, and I want to help you.
Devonalia Crystalwind
|
Even after a night of rest Devonalia wakes up with a few remaining bumps and bruises. She asks one of the appropriate casters to use her heal stick on her to remove the remaining injuries before the group sets off on the next quest.
Radagast the Brown
|
@Devonalia: As a level 6 PC, you heal 6 points of non-lethal damage per hour. If you had 8 hours rest, that would be 48 points of healing, and as far as I can tell, you weren't knocked unconscious?
| DM Carbide |
The abbot raises his hands in placation at Keynala's response. "The situation is not so urgent that a night's rest would be too long a delay, and we have room and board for you."
To Devonalia, he replies, "The cultists we have witness reports of are human, armed with dwarven waraxes or greataxes, and appear to wield some form of hieratic power, at least channeling negative energy. Rovagug has blessed their leader, a priest named Tasutek, with great physical strength. We have a likely location for their base of operations, an abandoned mine over a day's travel to the north."
Before you leave, Aeotsep removes the two rings he wears and offers them to the party. They are a ring of jumping and a [/i]ring of climbing[/i]. Itephta in addition offers a phylactery of faithfulness and an incense of meditation. [ooc]Although it doesn't look like any of you can use those last two...ah, well.
Sobek Al Saleef
|
He also knows that he must inform his superiors about the text in the Sothis Exhibitory.
I'm going out on a limb here and taking a wild guess as to who could take up the call to be a jewled sage.
Keynala Smith
|
Nala gets good rest, healing up fully. She wakes up in the morning, gets her crap together and is ready to go.
Nala would gain benefits and wear either ring, or both. I expect most of the group is that way. Maybe just roll for them?
