COMBAT OVER
As the last leshy falls, the terrain before you shifts and, to your chagrin, you find yourselves back in the dining hall, standing in front of the Thane's table.
The Thane looks upon the would-be-escapees with what might actually be admiration. "It has been centuries since any have dared defy us." They pause for a moment, a too-symmetrical grin forming over their disconcertingly flawless face. "There is exhilaration to such a rare experience. But the wager was that we would be entertained, was it not? The question remains, novel as your antics were, did we find them droll or merely novel?"
A wide grin splits the Thane's face.
"We cannot recall the last time we were so entertained! A wager won fairly. And impressively at that! In fact, all who desire so may leave. No further feasting will surpass what we have witnessed. And mortals, this Voll family with whom you seem so concerned, we will return their lost time. We will return any time lost. Such is the magnanimity we feel. The courage, the defiance, the raw… entertainment. Oh yes. Who needs a feast? We shall have to watch this Pathfinder Society. They seem terribly interesting. And wonderfully entertaining." With those ominous words the feast dissipates like mist in the morning, leaving only a view of the outskirts of the Grungir Forest.
You find yourselves on the pathway between the Voll family homestead and the Grungir forest. The Volls, of course, are ecstatic to be home, especially since their lost decades have been restored to them. At your feet, you find a figurine of one of the table hounds. An appraiser in town values it at about 20gp. The Volls present you a family heirloom of artfully carved Grungir Forest wood worth 16gp. Additionally, as a reward for recovering their lost time, they give an even more ornately carved wood piece with a gold inlay of the Voll family crest worth 26gp. Summer Storm presents you with his personal, handcrafted dagger of stag horn worth 24gp.
Venture-Captain Bjersig Torrsen greets you back in Jol, having just arrived. You are questioned endlessly concerning this strange being called the Thane. He asks for an extensive report and is relieved to know that they were able to escape safely. Edvik and Rane Voll are ecstatic for the return of their missing kin. The occasion is incredibly joyous with many tears shed. Summer Storm actually requests that the venture-captain allow him to join the Pathfinders, and considering the help he gave, Bjersig immediately has Lirall process Summer Storm's field commission.
As for the Thane, who knows, you might hear from him again. But that, is another story...
