Mech-Ro-Nancy

Mech-Ro-Nancy continues to try to give the ship more speed.
This round, she would have attempted to boost engines. She will continue to so as it appears that we are trying to outdistance the creature adn we don't believe we have a rear arc weapon on the ship.
Engineering to divert to engines: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

"It's not moving very fast now, or smart. Blast it guys."
It only closed the range to 5 last turn. I propose a wide turn to bring it into the right arc next round, and Mech-Ro or Twilight switch to gunner.

Piloting Initiative ; ship : 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 6 + 1 = 20
Added arrow to our ship's color dot to show facing. Moved 12 hexes ended with turn that hopefully keeps the whelp in our right arc.

It's still in the right arc; range is 7. We can get a second shot with one of the lasers.
It should just have the -2 range penalty.
Lufti shoots at the creature that takes up full targeting screen.
Gunnery with computer assist: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 1 = 12
Coilgun: 4d4 ⇒ (2, 2, 2, 2) = 8
It disappears from the screen just as Lufti pulls the trigger.
"Oh, there's a dial to change to camera zoom. I should have used that."
Mech-Ro-Nancy
|
Taking the suggestion to move to a gunnery station, Mech-Ro-Nancy attempts to line up a shot. "Yes, let us see if we can recycle some organic matter."
Gunnery w/range: 1d20 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 1 - 2 = 5
Damage (light laser cannon): 2d4 ⇒ (2, 4) = 6

Piloting Initiative ; ship : 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 6 + 1 = 22
Little tries a little side-slip that he used to use gravity surfacing in the Diaspora. It seems to throw the Whelp off. "Sucker! I can put it in any firing arc you want! "
SOrry, I missed the initiative roll yesterday. Looks like I won this round. It goes first. Like Little said, he can probably drive the ship so we end up with any weapons we like pointed at it. Can't guarantee which of its arcs we end up in.
Twilight Glimmer

How many weapons have we got?
Since Mech-Ro-Nancy went to the other gunnery station, Twilight trots over to Engineering to give the weapons more power.
engineering: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23

Eager to bring home a "souvenir" from this trip, Mech-Ro-Nancy fires again.
Gunnery: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Adjust for range, if necessary
Damage (light laser cannon): 2d4 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6

It moves and tries to bite the Starfinders ship. But the ship slides out of it's huge mouth.
bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
As the Starfinders whiz by, Lufi and Mech fire! They center the whelp in the targeting sights. Both blasts hit square on! With the two blasts the Starfinders are are able to finish it! it's corpse drifts in space.

As you head into the atmosphere a strange magnetic storm interferes with your sensors. You land and head into the village. You see a group of squat humanoids with tentacles. They await you at the center of the village.

Columbia , a sad day indeed.
"Nice shooting! Let me put this baby down, and we'll see what's on the surface."
... On the surface
Little suits up, and checks his gear. He looks around to see that the other are ready before cycling the airlock and stepping outside.
"Do we have any first contact experts? What's the protocol here?"
Mech-Ro-Nancy
|
"Shall we bring the corpse with us?" inquires Mech-Ro-Nancy, her usually flat demeanor unable to hide her anticipation. "There is a tractor beam on this ship, is there not? Tow hooks?"
Concern begins to invade the android's tone.
" Something?"

"It's too big to bring with us on the descent, or even a Drift jump. It's going nowhere. We can try to think about it after the mission, or you can EVA over there and grab a piece. "
Twilight Glimmer

Twilight hops back onto the computer to calculate what sort of orbit the corpse is in and try to make a prediction of where it would be - although, there aren't that many data points to work with.
I suppose we could tag it with a beacon
computers: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
Nope. It's like tracking an asteroid. One needs at least three data points separated over a period of days to even begin to calculate an orbit.

"Sorry space creature. You mistook a predator for prey." Lufti says, solemnly. "Is there a reason you want to bring all or part of it with us Mech-Ro-Nancy?"
On seeing the creatures.. "This place is supposed to be abandoned, right? Could be an awkward conversation about ownership rights. I'm happy to start the conversation. I suggest we move slowly and keep our hands visible."
Lufti will approach the creatures, cycling through known languages (Common, Raxi, Vesk, Ysoki, and Castrovelian): "Hello. We are peaceful visitors. We would like to talk."
Edit - Forgot to include a roll.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 10 + 1d6 ⇒ (10) + 10 + (1) = 21

"Sorry space creature. You mistook a predator for prey." Lufti says, solemnly. "Is there a reason you want to bring all or part of it with us Mech-Ro-Nancy?"
"For recycling, of course." Mech-Ro-Nancy replies, as if the answer should be obvious.
The android seems disappointed, until the conversation turns to the prospect of encountering natives. "There may be opportunities yet."

"We could nudge it into the atmosphere. That'll recycle it in the long term."
Mech-Ro-Nancy

"That would only destroy it. Break it down." Mech-Ro-Nancy corrects. "It would waste the working sinews and tissues--those remarkable jaws --that could be put to alternative use."

Lufti sees the the aliens wave their tentacles in the same manner. But two of group wave their tentacles differently and move to one side then back again. They look at each other as Lufti speaks then back to Lufti.
"Ooogg" one says with a mouth near the middle of it's stomach, waving the tentacles differently. "Oooopp"
Another next to it says. "Ooogg"

Sense motive: 1d20 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (13) + 5 + (6) = 24
"I think they want to know where we're from and who we are." Lufti says. "Maybe a partly gestural language. Very nuanced vocalisations. Fascinating stuff."
Mech-Ro-Nancy

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
"I think they are asking about the space creature we killed. Probably wondering why it was not recycled." Mech-Ro-Nancy surmises.

Twlight Lufti and the rest of the Pathfinders are correct the aliens are asking where you come from and about the battle in space.
One of the creatures moves it's tentacles up. "Saw." It points to its head. "In sky. Big fight. Great evil live in sky" It shutters as does the rest of the aliens. "What happened?"
lufti_lilium
|
"That's a very useful talent Twilight Glimmer. It's probably saved us a week of work."
Lufti listens to the relayed conversation.
"A great evil? Perfect. I'm glad we didn't kill something they worshipped as a god."
Lufti grabs two stones with their LFAN vines and recreates the ship battle - making it clear that the creature is now dead.

I usually use it for deciphering ancient writings and such, especially those on Aballon
She too uses a front hoof to scratch diagrams into the dirt Her horn continues to glow as the spell runs through it's duration.
Now the spell we need is Share Language

"Great evil...yes god?" some of the creatures talk to themselves. "Ah but one of us views the creature as a god. But we won't talk about them." A few creatures point to Mech Ro. "What is your function?
A few others bring round purple things that look like fruit on woven trays. "Nourishment. We haven't had much since the time of green spots. Many disappeared"
Little Lendtech
|
Little is impressed. "Those dudes must have really good eyesight to have seen that fight."
He keeps to the back of the group, especially when faced with purple food.

A few creatures point to Mech Ro. "What is your function?
When told what the creatures are saying, she instructs Twilight Glimmer, "Tell them that my function is organic recycling and to take us to their dead."

The spell only allows me to understand their language ... not speak it Twilight replies with the tone of a teacher speaking to a student who doesn't 'get it'. Besides, that might count as ... culturally inappropriate.

"Yeah, we don't know anything about their customs yet. But if it turns out they have some dead laying around and they're not sure what to do with them, I'm sure they'll welcome your recycling services."
Lufti tries to convey the following to the creatures: "The ancestors of some friends of ours lived here a long time ago. We'd like to see if there's anything left of their settlement."
@GM Can we get a sense of their technology level from their clothing or any items they're carrying?

"'Culturally inappropriate'?" The android inquires aloud. "But, my comments were intended to convey that I wished to appropriate any of their dead."
Lufti tries to convey the following to the creatures: "The ancestors of some friends of ours lived here a long time ago. We'd like to see if there's anything left of their settlement."
"Or of their bodily remains." Mech-Ro-Nancy adds.

The scenario doesn't say I'm going to say early 18th century. They have paper, worked metal and animals for travel
As Lufti asks about the ruins, the aliens all turn so they're facing away from the party and sit down. They're all looking away.
"No discuss. We're done" Another alien says "No discuss bodies of ancestors"

"No discuss. We're done" Another alien says "No discuss bodies of ancestors"
"Sure, no problem. What would you like to talk about?" Lufti says. Ignoring any indication that they want to end the conversation. "Or maybe there's something we could help you with? As a gesture of friendship."
Lufti looks to Mech-Ro-Nancy "Something other than recycling. For now."

this is like a skill challenge so I'll need Diplomacy checks from the party or other skills like xeno-archaelogist that might be appropriate for 1st contact situations. Lufti rolled a few posts above
Twilight facehoofs.
One of the aliens abruptly covers it's face with two of it's tentacles.
There's no picture of the aliens but I found an image on Google and added it as Slide 2
