Azzirm goes about and looks at all the engineering things he can...walking gingerly so not to tramp through the debris....and the remains of the giant skeletons there...

Grump takes a look at the collected corpse remnants & shrugs, obviously having no solid idea what to make of it all.

He turns his attention to the nearby spaces, looking for places where hammocks could be hung for sleeping. Once he locates some likely spots, he opens his NullSpace Chamber & extracts 4 hammocks & 4 sleeping bags (he keeps 6 of each in there).

"At least we'll be dry while we sleep - who wants first watch?"

Gunnz took first watch after Grump got all the hammocks set up. She poked around but the fog in her sleepy head meant that she didn’t find anything initially. Maybe she can try again after she get’s some sleep.
Sure, try again using Medicine, as that’s the only one not gotten yet.

When Azzirm takes his shift, he spends the time hacking into the lockbox and the encrypted datapad within. And boy, does he find something interesting....

Encrypted comms on the Datapad handout revealed

Actually with only +6 to medicine, I can't make that check.

As Azzirim shares the encrypted coms, Gunnz face turns paler and paler.

"Sounds like the detective found the answer to their mystery. At least they didn't die curious. But... this looks like a big conspiracy that must have done to the top. I wonder if the other engines were also "powered" by storm giants, or if it was just this one using 'alternate' power sources..."

Azara isn't much help in the thinky parts. Not that he was a whole lot of help in the fighty part earlier.

"Always nice to be part of a really skilled team," he voices his thought out loud with no context.

While the others are looking around, he helps Grump with the sleeping bags and hammocks.

When Azzirm wakens him for his watch, he thanks the man then goes to the entrance to the room and watches the hall, composing further poetry to pass the time.

"Such a dangerous siren
The quest for power

While on watch, Azzirm does his best to fix the armor....he probably hasn't had that much problem with fights since he was able to get his suit configured to power armor.

He thinks on what would have made the fight better...and thinks on how to improve his systems and structure.

He smirks a little though....."While you was about to fail....we did--myself and you--keep an undead storm giant busy while the rest of the team dealt with the other....you did what you were designed to be....a bastion to keep enemies off the others." He pats the armor fondly.

After everybody gets enough rest..."I think we should catalog the items here...and the bodies...do what we can for them, and then move all items from here, the 'storm giant' room, and all to the entrance...then head back to that last hallway..."

Rested and refreshed, you finish cataloging the graveyard crew quarters and move back down to the corridor off of the Control Room. The hallway at the bottom of this map.

This flooded hall leads to a partial collapse. Your General Contractor looks it over, and without much thought takes a few minutes to clear away the rubble. Azzirm can take 10 on an Engineering check, which avoids a needlessly complicated time sink.

Beyond the collapse is the interior of the long-sought-after storm engine.
The right side of this map, where I’ve placed your tokens.

You realize this is technology that no outsider has ever seen, nor have even few if any living giants, either. You swim through its channels and component parts to get an inside look at the machine. Fully exploring the storm engine’s interior requires 1 hour. Working your way through and around the components, you easily gain insight into its construction and function, and you’re certain that you could reproduce it adequately as basic blueprints once above water.

Bueller?:

Gunnz : 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (12) + 14 = 26

Azara : 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (16) + 12 = 28

As you all move through the storm engine compartment, Grump realizes that your motions are causing electrical energy to build up in the engine. He’s got bare moments to act!

If Grump makes a DC 30 Mysticism check, he disperses the energy harmlessly and disables the hazard for 1 day. Otherwise, you each take….

If Grump fails:

Electrical discharge, E: 8d12 ⇒ (12, 2, 8, 9, 9, 5, 2, 3) = 50

It takes about 4 more hours to complete the mapping and documentation of the legendary storm engine. With all the excavations complete, you take one final rest in the crew quarters. It seems wisest to await the arrival of high tide when you can simply swim or walk up the entry shaft without worrying about slipping and falling back down.

Of course that means that you emerge into an early morning high tide, with no sandbar to walk back on. It turns out that Azzirm’s bulk actually fits easily into a raft designed for giants, and you’re all able to swim the laden boat back to shore in the calm seas.

No checks required per the scenario.

As you approach the beach, you see the two fire giants from earlier, Igvale and Roros, stroll down to greet you.

The fire giants smile cheerfully. “Thanks for your help, Starfinders! We couldn’t have gotten such a good haul ourselves! The Cloud Imperium makes raiding these ruins tough,” begins Igvale.

”But with you doin’ all the work we didn’t even have to get wet!” finishes Roros with a high-five to her partner that reverberates across the sand.

The giants guffaw as they draw weapons. “So long, Starfinders! And seriously, thanks for your help!”

You may reposition yourself to start your first turn anywhere within the Red Box if you don’t like where I put you.

Grump heard a lot of stories about giants growing up. Too bad he couldn’t keep all the different ones straight in his head. These fire giants, do they take extra fire damage and enjoy the cool, refreshing feel of something Cold? Or was it the other way around? Eh, it’ll all become clear pretty soon anyway.

Gunnz tries tricking Igvale, but the giantess just smirks as the shot whizzes past. It’s clear to Gunnz that if she’d been able to trick the giant then she would have hit, her shot was just that close. ”Nice try, little lady, but we’ve got our own tricks, don’t we, Roros?” And to prove the point, she rushes right up at said little lady, draws a dagger, and slices at Gunnz.

It would appear that they are immune to being Flat Footed. They could still be made Off Target by a successful Trick Attack, but the Attack doesn’t benefit from making them Flat Footed.

Roros just grunts in agreement, moves a little closer and opens fire at the N to S: 1d2 ⇒ 2 big guy pretending to be a giant.

The shellgun round catches Azzirm in the face, rocking him back and dealing him a life-threatening blow!

It seems all of their attacks are sheathed in fire, and they clearly have some specialized training just like Gunnz’s.

Time stutters and Gunnz did in fact hit the first giant, doing damage and opening a nice little gash across her forehead. Meanwhile, in the same stutter, the fire belching from the other’s shellgun seems abated somewhat.

Gunnz takes a second shot at the other giant and pegs her square in the shoulder causing a trickle of blood to seep out into her uniform.

As she considers other options for hurting the giants, she recalls that these giants are certainly immune to any fire damage, but are extra vulnerable to cold effects. And surprisingly for giants, they seem weakest to spells targeting their physical toughness.
Immune to Fire. Vulnerability to Cold. Since you already know they’re operatives, I’ll give you that Fortitude is surprisingly their weakest save.

Grump expresses his disgust and gets some clearance from the giants, buffers his armor’s thermal protections, and gets ready to maneuver and attack.

Azzirm retaliates with a hail of bullets, striking both giants easily. As the slide clatters open, Roros looks impressed at the mechanic. And smiles. Azzirm isn’t sure how to take the smile, as he can’t seem to remember anything about giant psychology.

Azara makes a wise assumption about Fire Giants and their relationship to Fire damage. He moves in, but forgets that big critters have long arms.

She clocks him with a fist, but thankfully his own attack hits easily, and the giant seems happy to be in melee with someone.

Even as the blood seeps out of the wound Gunnz gave it, Roros continues smiling at Azara. ”You’re kinda cute, you know. Too bad I gotta squish you so you can’t tell the Cloudy’s we were here.”

She then cuts loose on her little crush.

Yep, she can do that. Seems maybe they’re both operatives, huh Gunnz. Thankfully only one of those hits the cute-pie.

”Hey, get back here, little missy,” Igvale calls out as Gunnz flees across the sand. The giantess lopes to follow and slashes at the Ace Pilot again.

Gunnz tries to get away from the giantess, using a common clubbing tactic of putting her friends between her and a handsy pursuer. Unfortunately, her foot slips in the soft sand, throwing her aim off and she misses.

”Hey, no,” Igvale starts to explain. ”I ain’t trying to get it on with you, missy. I just need to kill you. Nothing personal, you understand. We just can’t let the Cloudies find out we were here. We’ll just dump your bodies back down the entrance shaft out there as if you died while exploring. Like I said, it’s not personal.”

Roros looks down at Azara with sad puppy eyes. ”But I wanna keep this one,” she whines.

”Hey, no! Just kill them. Stick to the plan!” Igvale yells back just as Azara swings twice and misses. Roros smiles sweetly at her little pet as if believing that he missed her on purpose.

A gust of wind foils Gunnz’ aim. Meanwhile Grump’s armor zaps Roros with a secondary static buildup. It’s exactly enough to drop the giantess.
