Fire_Giant DM
Thanks for the clarification on AC. :)
The dragon lunges at Eclipse as it closes in on it, but misses. Eclipse lands a critical hit on the dragon wounding it severely. Yolanda finishes it off, killing the green leafed dragon. Xenovia inflicts 31 damage on the other dragon (total 64 damage).
Grymm is up.
A wounded dragon and a wounded giant are left.
Grymm Bloodstone
Round 4: Grymm!
The dwarf full attacks the wounded dragon next to him.
Attack: 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (15) + 26 = 41
Damage: 2d6 + 25 ⇒ (4, 3) + 25 = 32
Attack: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (6) + 21 = 27
Damage: 2d6 + 25 ⇒ (2, 2) + 25 = 29
Attack: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (15) + 16 = 31
Damage: 2d6 + 25 ⇒ (6, 6) + 25 = 37
AC 35 vs. dragon/39 vs. giant.
Edmond Wynston
Edmond looks around, breathing a little heavily, looking afar at the last giant, "This was one hell of a entrance,"
He then points a finger and fires off 5 magic missiles at the remaining giant, "Best we not leave one alive still,"
Magic Missile: 5d4 + 5 ⇒ (1, 3, 2, 2, 2) + 5 = 15 Oof what subpar magic missile damage!
Fire_Giant DM
The fire giant is stung by the energy missiles, but he's still up. You see him look over his shoulder to the south, as he yells with fear in his voice, "Tesharat, come and help! Enemies have killed the dragons in the rookery! I need your help!" The fire giant moves 30' south down the middle cavern as he launches another boulder at Eclipse!
Attack only hits on natural 20: 1d20 ⇒ 18 --- miss!
Eclipse and Xenovia are up, followed by Yolanda. Combat Map has been updated.
Edmond Wynston
Whoops, thought he was a little more wounded than that, Edmond is a bad judge of injuries from so far away!
Xenovia Zenophon
With a whoop Xenovia and Eclipse fly across the cave to strike down the fleeing giant.
We charge the giant, AC for both is 2 lower, we provoke moving in as Eclipse lacks reach.

Edmond Wynston
Looking around at the others, "That last giant called out for help, we should prepare ourselves for reinforcements,"
He pulls out a small pearl of power from his belt pouch and focuses his arcane energies into recovering that last magic missile he fired.
Grymm Bloodstone
As Xenovia and Eclipse take down the last giant, Grymm looks over at the party. "Well, that was a rude welcome! Good job all staying alive! Xeno, come back here and heal poor Edmond, please. If reinforcements are coming, we need to be ready. If not, we need go in after them." Grymm is feeling very confident after taking out 3 giants and 5 dragons.
Yolanda Foehammer
Moving over to the Human enchanter, Yolanda places her hand upon his wounds and says a few words in dwarven. With a golden glow, the wounds begin to heal at a miraculous rate.
Fervor (9/10): 4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 3, 3) = 12
Fervor (8/10): 4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 2, 6) = 16
"There ya are laddie...how ya feeling? Need another dose of love from me goddess??"
Xenovia Zenophon
Xenovia quickly heads back to the group and begins to heal her companion.
Using Wand of Cure Light, will spend charges until we run out of time, assuming something is coming.
CLW: 6d8 + 6 ⇒ (4, 7, 7, 7, 4, 8) + 6 = 43
Edmond, if you have a wand I will happily heal you. If not I have my own. I would prefer to avoid using spells yet. We also shouldn't wait too long, reinforcements may be on the way and we have buffs running out. I suggest we deal with treasure later unless anyone sees anything obviously magical in those piles of gold.
Edmond Wynston
buying myself a wand of cure light wounds would've been a brilliant idea, I wish I was as smart as Edmond was lol
Putting a hand on Yolanda's shoulder, "Thank you for the Healing, I appreciate it, I think this'll be enough for now, hopefully won't be any more fire breathing dragons for a short while,"
Following Grymm's lead, "Should we search this area or do we want to just move on immediately?"
Xenovia Zenophon
Yes, I am aware, I have halved the durations on my buff list where I have done it however this time I cast it on each of us separately.
Let us press on while our spells are running.
With that Xenovia directs Eclipse towards the exit the giant was heading towards, alert for danger.
Taking 10 on Perception as we move for 35 with Heroism.
Yolanda Foehammer
Yolanda gives the giants a quick look, removing any valuables from the bodies and several tuffs of hair that she absently braids and attaches to her armour.
"Let's get a move on friends...there is more evil to root out!'
Xenovia Zenophon
Forgot about Hunter's Blessing, take 10 perception is 37.
Fire_Giant DM
Divine Favor has run out after the casting of the spell, the 4 rounds of combat, and the six rounds of healing with the wand. Take off 1 minute off your minute per level spells.
Xenovia looks for dangers as you head south, but detect none. The party travels 70' down a 10' wide passageway. Even though you're protected from heat, you can sense the temperature increasing as you move down the cavern corridor. After 70' the corridor opens into a massive 150' wide and 200' long cavern. The air shimmers over a wide pool of magma that fills the southern half of this immense oblong cavern. The pool starts about 140' from you. Xenovia takes 10 again and again senses no danger. There is another passageway heading north from this cavern, but you estimate it leads to the other cave entrance you saw while scouting. The temperature in the room is HOT (120 F) and but for your protection spells, you might be suffering from heat exhaustion.
What do you do? For this part of the map, each square is 10' instead of 5'. Combat Map has been updated. I put you each in your your own 10' square.
Grymm Bloodstone
Grymm leads the party down the corridor, his wings carrying him along. When he sees the magma pool in the distance, he smiles. "Mama dragon? I've killed a black and a green one in my career and those baby reds we just fought, but not a true red. I'm game. Except if mama is invisible, I'll be screwed. Anyone can help me see invisible? If so, I can fly up to the pool and draw her out." Grymm is very confident, sometimes to his detriment, but I like playing him to the hilt.
Edmond Wynston
See invisibility is unfortunately a Personal Spell so I can't cast it on you, same with Arcane Sight, I can give you True Seeing, it only lasts 13 minutes though.
Looking around the room, nodding to Grymm, "If she's invisible, I'll see her, hopefully, I may not be that perceptive but I'm sure I'd see a big red dragon lurking about, invisible or not," he says with a chuckle. "I can always send a magical sensor down there, a quick Arcane Eye'd be able to zip down, It can go into the lava but if she is lurking there I might be able to pick her up,"
Reaching to his belt he pulls a rod of his belt to have at the ready. Looking around the room, "I'm not sure she'd be in here though, while it is a big room, I don't see anyway for her to really fly in or out of this place, Looking at the others shrugging, "I suggest we keep moving,"
Xenovia Zenophon
Xenovia also scans the chamber. I can purge invisibility if we need to but if there is a larger red in here it's probably in that lava pool. Lets get closer and find out, be wary for her appearing. I dont think we have time for arcane eye, it takes a good long while to cast. If we do have a larger dragon to deal with then we need you two to be able to get into the air. Can you fly? she asks Yolanda and Grymm.
If needed I can cast air walk on you both. How high is the cavern? Arcane Eye has a 10 minute cast time, I would rather not lose that much time from our buffs personally.
Xenovia Zenophon
Doh, I missed that.
Edmond Wynston
Nodding to Xenovia, "Yes yes, one day maybe I'll find a way to cast Arcane Eye quicker, 10 minutes is dreadfully long for what we have going on," Flipping through his spellbook, "If there is a Dragon, Haste wouldn't be bad here, It'd last little over a minute, isn't a long time, but gives us a little extra movement to hopefully keep up with her, I know Red Dragon's are notoriously fast creatures. Additionally I can Enlarge both Yolanda and Grymm, I know it'd make them easier to hit but it would give them a little extra reach against the Dragon"
Grymm Bloodstone
Grymm shakes his head, "I don't want enlarging magic, messes with my fighting style. Well, since we have ways of dispelling invisibility, let's not waste any more time." Grymm flies 40' (80' per round at 15' above the ground) toward the pool. The party can follow or watch.
Edmond Wynston
Edmond will proceed forward, fanning out to give a little distance between the others, "Be wary, a Red Dragon's Fire has a wide range," He cautions.
Xenovia Zenophon
Xenovia and Eclipse also follow but only after bestowing an air walk on Yolanda.
That should help you deal with any flying foes
Fire_Giant DM
Ok, I will assume that Grymm waits for Xenovia to cast the spell on Yolanda and then advances.
Grymm flies forward 80' in one round, with Xenovia and Eclipse easily keeping up and following behind him. Yolanda double moves 40', while Edmond moves 60' but to the side.
Suddenly, multiple images of a black (not red!) horned head rises out of the molten lava, which only Edmond can see! Knowledge Arcana DC 30 to identify the creature.
Surprise Round Initiative:
Edmond: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Tesherat: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Edmond is up first. No one else can see the dragon's head. Map is updated.
Edmond Wynston
Great timing! I just got home from work a 10 minutes ago, got all settled and pulled up Paizo and you'd just posted!
Kn: Arcana: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (19) + 24 = 43
Shouting to the others with a bit of panic rising in his voice, "Guys, its not a Red Dragon, prepare yourself, this isn't gonna be easy" He then mumbles something to himself and casts a spell.
I cast Resist Energy (Acid) on myself, 30 pts of resistance, lasts 130 minutes
Fire_Giant DM
Actually, Edmond, with that killer arcana roll, you know the dragon is an extraplanar one from the Plane of Fire, known as a magma dragon! It breathes fire and is vulnerable to cold; judging by its size, it is at least old in age, therefore having high SR and requiring magic weapons to injure; they are constantly surrounded by a fire shield aura; they can cast fire spells at will; and at this age, are skilled sorcerers, learning up to 5th level spells.
Based on new information, you can retcon your action during the surprise round.
Edmond Wynston
Ooo okay, I'll keep it simple and just change my resist energy to Fire instead of Acid, I'm sure it'll blow through my protection rather quickly. I'll share as much of that information as I can with the others
Continuing after his spell, "Friends, be wary its a Magma Dragon, I've only read about them existing on the Plane of Fire! It's an incredibly Old Dragon and very powerful, beware it easily repels weak magical spells and knows a large variety of fire based magic. The very air around it scorches the unprotected but like other fire dragons its weak to the Cold and Ice!"
Grinning, "I hope everyone is wearing their brown pants to this battle," he says with a chuckle and a fire in his eye.
Xenovia Zenophon
Edmond, we all have resist fire 30 already from my group resist buff for when the protection from fire ends. Given this is a more dangerous dragon Haste might well be a good idea.
Edmond Wynston
Yeah Haste won't work, I was hoping to cast it when the group is closer together. Right now with how the group is positioned and the 10 foot squares we are occupying I could either get me and Yolanda or Xenovia/Eclipse and Grymm. Was hoping next round maybe we all get closer together and I can get the whole group. Yeah forgot about your Resist Energy when I switched from Acid to Fire. Was just trying to post quickly.
Hey DM, I'll just change my Resist Energy spell to a Shield Spell
Fire_Giant DM
Rest of party Initiative:
Grymm: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26
P: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Xeno: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Yolanda: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Formal Initiative:
Grymm
Yolanda
Edmond
P
Xenovia
Tesherat
The three bolded party members can act.
Edmond Wynston
I now realize that only I can see it because its invisible!
Turning in shock as the massive dragon re-appears behind Yolanda, "Look out, its a teleportin' Dragon! I'm gonna try and purge its invisibility, Yolanda its like 15 feet behind you!"
Edmond then casts a spell targeted at the dragon.
Targeted Dispel: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14
Trying to dispel the invisibility, DC is 11 + spells caster level. I'm very confident my 14 doesn't do the trick.
Cursing as his magic fizzles into nothing, "Its incredibly resistant to magic, bewary!"
Yolanda Foehammer
Ya took tha words right outta me mouth, yar did!!
Yolanda tenses up as she is told the dragon is right behind her and she turns and calls upon her goddess to remove the spell of invisibility so she and her companions can fight this evil on a more level playing field.
Defensive casting of Invisibility Purge (DC-21): 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (9) + 17 = 26
You surround yourself with a sphere of power with a radius of 5 feet per caster level that negates all forms of invisibility. Anything invisible becomes visible while in the area.
Fire_Giant DM
The dragon growls in anger, as its invisibility is negated by the warpriest's spell. However, instead of one huge dragon, you now see 7! You all recognize the mirror image spell in effect. The dragon has black scales covered in rivulets of glowing lava. You can feel the heat emanating off its 15' long body, as its eyes focus on you each for a few seconds, deciding on whom to eat first. | Grymm Bloodstone |
Round 1:
As a swift action, Grymm raises his shield to protect himself and then he charges at the dragon. "C'mon Tesherat, show me what you've got!"
Attack: 1d20 + 26 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 26 + 2 = 38
Miss chance: 1d7 ⇒ 5
Damage: 2d6 + 25 ⇒ (6, 3) + 25 = 34
AC: 33 this round due to charge
Grymm uses Weapon and Shield combat trick: As a swift action, you can choose a foe you can see. You can pass through that foe’s threatened area without provoking attacks of opportunity from that foe this round.
Death-Lok
Grymm's attack strikes an image harmlessly! 6 images remain of the dragon. Tesherat smiles, "I am not alone, fleshlings. I have friends."
Two creatures streak out of the lava and attack Eclipse. Glowing-hot plates of iron cover the head of this immense, primordial lungfish, and lava spills from between its jagged teeth.
Round 1: Pyropiscis
Both large creatures slither on the ground and move up to Eclipse and attack it from 15' away. The second creature tears a piece of flesh from Eclipse. The bite would have inflicted fire damage also, but the wolf is protected.
Attack: 1d20 ⇒ 2 --- miss
Attack: 1d20 ⇒ 19 --- hits (threat)!
Attack: 1d20 ⇒ 4 --- no confirmation
Grapple: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (15) + 24 = 39...What is Eclipse's CMD?
Damage: 2d8 + 12 ⇒ (2, 4) + 12 = 18
Xenovia and Eclipse are up! Eclipse previously took 37 damage from an AoO from a fire giant, but if you were unaware X, you can retcon and heal him. If you do so, spend the spells or charges. Eclipse now takes 18 damage and he may be grappled.
Xenovia Zenophon
I did prreviously heal Eclipse, post is HERE. Eclipse current CMD is 34 as per her stat line. She is grabbed.
How much fire damage does she take so I can track her protection from fire. Grab does move you adjacent to the grabbing enemy so I assume we are next to each other now?
With a growl Eclipse turns on the creature that has her grabbed.
Grapple imposes a -2 penalty to attack rolls but this is offset by the -2AC you take while grappling or being grappled.

Damage: 2d6 + 11 ⇒ (6, 6) + 11 = 23
Trip: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (5) + 20 = 25
Xenovia focuses her mind and reaches out to place a hand on one of the lungfish.
Defensively casting Plane Shift. If I can reach the non grabbing monster I will, otherwise it will be the one grabbing Eclipse.
Defensive cast DC25: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (17) + 23 = 40
Melee touch: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
If it hits the creatures touch AC then it needs to make a DC22 will save or be plane shifted to the elemental plane of water.
Take down the dragon, Eclipse and I will deal with these!
Xenovia is AC37 currently. Eclipse is AC40 due to the grapple.
Fire_Giant DM
Thanks, Xenovia, I am glad you head healed Eclipse. The creature's bite inflicts 2d6 ⇒ (6, 3) = 9 fire damage.
With regard to the wolf's combat maneuver, since the monster does not have legs and slithers across the ground, I will rely on PF to say the creature cannot be tripped. Some creatures—such as oozes, creatures without legs, and flying creatures—cannot be tripped.
Eclipse's second bite lands; however, the creature's skin is super tough, so it only inflicts 18 damage.
Xenovia can only reach the creature grappling Eclipse. She does and the creature, much to its surprise, disappears from this plane as it is sucked into a portal.
Will save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Nicely played and good use of that spell!
Round 1: Tesherat!
The magma dragon moves 5' closer to Yolanda, "You negated my invisibility..you will pay for that!" In a fury you have not seen before, the dragon unleashes all of its attacks on the warpriest. Yolanda's blood flows freely all over the cavern, but at the end of the round, she is still standing....barely! The dragon smiles wickedly!
Hasted Bite: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (17) + 18 = 35...hit
Damage: 2d8 + 25 ⇒ (7, 4) + 25 = 36 + 8 fire
Bite: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (18) + 18 = 36...hit
Damage: 2d8 + 25 ⇒ (5, 7) + 25 = 37 + 8 fire
Claw: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (4) + 18 = 22
Claw: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (16) + 18 = 34...hit
Damage: 2d6 + 20 ⇒ (6, 5) + 20 = 31
Tail Slap: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (10) + 16 = 26
Wing: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (13) + 16 = 29
Wing: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (20) + 16 = 36...hit
Damage: 1d8 + 25 ⇒ (3) + 25 = 28
Total damage: 132 damage and she loses 16 points off Protection from Fire!
After the first hit lands, Tesherat invokes her Frightful Presence as a free action. Everyone must make a DC 23 Will save or be shaken for the rest of the fight.
