I actually had that in my notes. "B-delaying". It pays to check your notes. I'm going to auto-delay Cordia for now, but if she posts soon we can retcon or proceed as she wishes.
In a flash, the creature scurries quickly across the vault in a halting, hunched animalistic lope. It hugs the bars and wall closely.
It was only able to move this round, its position in the map is current. Everyone is up!
Bumolin Bitterkelch
can Bumolin see anything he couldn't see before, when the creature moves nearer? Does is seem hostile in some way?
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Xylas Foundling
I think we ought to have moved into the room, but the map is currently showing us about 10' outside the room or around a corner about 40' from creeper.
Xylas channels energy at the thing once it is in range. ready channel for 25'. damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3 Will DC 13 for half
DM Dickie
I cant get to Roll20 while at work, but i do have a copy of the module on my phone, lol. Thorfinn should be right at the door per his post on the previous page, so he is either 15 or 20 feet from where I thought I remembered the critter ending its move, depending on whether he is standing in the right or left square in front of the door.
Thorfinn Feigrsson
The barbarian does what one should expect under the circumstances. "HOYO HO! NOW FEEL THE FORCE OF FEIGR'S SON!" Rushing forward, he brings his blade down on the creature.
Raging greatsword power attack: 1d20 + 5 + 2 - 1 ⇒ (18) + 5 + 2 - 1 = 24
So close!
Raging greatsword PA damage: 2d6 + 6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 5) + 6 + 3 = 18
Rage, close, attack!
DM Dickie
I worry about what happens when the RNG turns on Thorfinn, lol! Guess the Will save is moot and the rest of you can stand down.
The blast of divine energy causes the attacker to flinch. Its diseased looking flesh cracks and oozes with dark fluid. It shrieks, but before it can get to Xylas, the barbarian is in its misshapen face. Once again, Thorfinn's axe strikes true and beheads the undead with one well-placed strike.
Xylas Foundling
perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
"Well..." Xylas observes wide-eyed as he circles around well back of the really, really dangerous sword and dispersed bits of creature. In front of the cage he adds, "Look in the floor here. A pair of keyholes maybe."
Bumolin Bitterkelch
Bumolin looks at the stricken undead. "I wonder what happened to it. It looked like it smashed into a cliff face. Can one of you hazard a guess how long it is dead?"
DM Dickie
Seven black iron chests. Contents unknown. The complexity of the lock system requires simultaneous DC 30 Disable Device checks! Or to find the keys...
"The price," says the voice of the blackbird as it fades into view standing on top of one of the chests inside the cage. "Has now gone up. I know where the keys are. I went back to see if they were still where they should have been. Now, I can tell you exactly where to find them, buuuuut...well, how about the Dwarf takes that club with both hands and brings it up over his head and smashes the big scary human in the head as hard as he can? I'm a "Punch and Judy" kind of guy. Like to watch my puppets hit each other with sticks, heh."
Thorfinn Feigrsson
This is where the dice module fails me.
In one smooth motion, Thorfinn draws a javelin and hurls it at the talking bird. "Bind your beak, bird of ill-omen!"
Javelin attack vs. raven: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
DM Dickie
just a Wisdom roll, not a save, yes?
[dice=Wis]1d20+2Xylas shakes his head. "That bird. We must have missed something. Let's go over our steps again."
Is this another dead end room?
There is a rough tunnel at the far end of the room. That's where the undead was originally crouched watching the tunnel itself.
Bumolin Bitterkelch
Wisdom: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
"That "bird" will say anything if it thinks it would make it's game more interesting."
Bumolin shruggs and follows the barbarian into the tunnel.
Bumolin Bitterkelch
Bumolin tugs at the arm of the big human beside him.
"Do you see those barricades, Thorfinn? You probably know a thing or two about tactics in battle - doesn't that look just like the people who lived here had to defend themselves against something coming through this tunnel?
Bumolin Bitterkelch
From the otheisde of the passage, the barricade looks to be facing the other way. Anyone moving forward through it lol?
sorry, I'm not sure I get this right. Are the barricades facing towards us or away from us?
Xylas Foundling
DM Dickie wrote:From the otheisde of the passage, the barricade looks to be facing the other way. Anyone moving forward through it lol?sorry, I'm not sure I get this right. Are the barricades facing towards us or away from us?
sounds like we're behind the barricade.
"Well, get to felling, Thorfinn. I'm a couple steps behind you!"
Bumolin Bitterkelch
Bumolin takes up the torch and keeps directly beside and slightly behind (and of course also "below") the barbarian while he moves forward, trying to give him some light with the torch.
DM Dickie
Sorry, was a little sick most of last week as well as just plain slammed with RL stuff!
Thorfinn crouches and moves forward and starts to clamber over the barricade.
Melee Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22 vs. FF
Damage if hit: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Before he clears it, a trio of broken stalagmites attached to some heavy cords swing down and pelt the barbarian! For a really nasty 10 damage, too! The trap looks to have been hastily constructed and will need to be reset manually.
The cavern beyond the trapped barricade shows signs of having taken the bulk of the collapse. Tons of fresh earth and stone fill the center of the carved out chamber. A pair of sandal-covered feet peek out from beneath a large boulder. The feet's owner seems to have been crushed by the collapse. A tunnel leads further to the north.
Xylas Foundling
Xylas is startled by the sudden violence, but quickly puts up his bow and renders aid. "Elk Father, please heal the wounds of this tamer of the wilds," he prays as he brushes over Thorfinn's contusions.
cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Bumolin Bitterkelch
Bumolin dropped the torch when the stalagmites came down right above him. He picks it up again. He points down the passage "I think Cordia should lead here. She would probably have spotted this in time."
DM Dickie
Cordia enters the chamber, walking carefully and frequently bumping her head on the low ceiling. She points to the body as she scouts ahead quietly.
Stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29 I couldn't have rolled like that for her at the trap? Thorfinn got hurt, dice! :D
She returns shortly to report the tunnel goes north for a while and ends in a narrow tunnel. It also branches off to the west, where it goes on for far longer than her darkvision can see.
DM Dickie
The dead human was an older man with a serious countenance. Even in death his eyes seem to regard the world with derision and impatience. Before crushed, torn, and covered in dirt and dust, his clothes may have been high quality and reflecting some wealth and power. There seems to be nothing of real value on him except a key ring that holds two keys. When he gets closer, Bumolin also sees signs of more kobolds. One claw protrudes from the rubble holding a broken shovel. Another leg sticks out from beneath a pile of rocks. The tunnel itself looks like a very tight squeeze and goes on far longer than anyone can see. The larger passageway has a low ceiling but is fairly wide.
Pretty much the only way to go is the wider passage. Shall I assume Thorfinn enters first? I'll have Cordia bring up the rear.
Bumolin Bitterkelch
Bumolin takes the keys. "I think he doesn't need them anymore - haven't we been looking for a pair just now? Maybe try them?"
Is there any similarity between this corpse and the undead one in the room before?
