Silas was the last down the ladder into the chamber, but quickly gravitated toward the eastern door. Searching the door, he quickly determines that the door is neither trapped nor locked. He hears nothing from beyond the stone door either.

Utsuri studies the remains of the beetles, trying to determine if their inherent glow is something that might be of use. Seeing the glowing ooze still clinging to the head of Myev's maul, they suspect that very well might be the case, but has no idea whatsoever of how to go about it. I'd say more, but a 4 isn't going to get it done.

Fascinated by the mechanical parts strewn across the floor of eastern half of the room, Meebo searches through them frantically finding a number of gears of various sizes and a number of pulleys, but the hempen cables running through said pulleys had long since dry-rotted. Looking back up cylinder shaft, Meebo sees what looks like a series of levers up near the top of the cylinder. Based on this it would appear these were spare parts for some sort of contraption controlled from within the cylinders, but you do not recall seeing anything from the outside when you approached the ruins.

Tekumbay heads over the northern most of the western doors and begins his examination. Much like Silas, he doesn't find any signs of a trap and the door is unlocked. The shuffling around the room and the occasional excited chirp out of Meebo as she investigates the mechanical parts on the floor would seem to prevent the forest gnome from concentrating enough to hear anything beyond the door.

With the rest of the caravan's survivors busily bustling around the chamber, Baheera finds it difficult to do much more than split her attention among what her companions were doing.

Myev stands by while most of her companions were busily working at other tasks in the room. She curiously regards the glowing goo stuck to the business end of her maul before moving over to one of the clay urns. Without touching them or doing a more thorough investigation, she is unable to determine anything more than they are lidded clay pots.

What would you like to do?

the occasional excited chirp out of Meebo

Accurate!

Meebo is going to sort through the pile and put a selection of bits and bobs in the best condition into her pack, stopping just shy of her load being too heavy to carry easily, or until someone drags her away because folks are leaving.

No worries at all, live by the dice die by the dice.

Utsuri noticed Myev taking an interest in the old clay pots and sauntered up nearby "Oh, what handsome little earthenware..." picking one up and sloshing its contents around.

If it sounds like something is inside, they'll open it for a peek. Still have light cast on the rice sandals around his neck from before, and darkvision.

While Meebo fills here pack with gears and bits to the point of wobbling a bit when she walks, Utsuri lifts one of the clay urns.

Sloshing it around a bit, they are certain that there is a viscous liquid inside of the urn. As a tiny bit leaks through the lid, they notice a distinctly oily smell to the cloudy liquid that had seeped out.

"Meebs, do you want me to carry anything for you? I don't have that much on me." Myev frowns, worried about her friend tipping over.

She turns her attention briefly to Utsuri, who had sidled up near her at the urns. "Do you know what it is?"

The blade dipped a finger in the black, viscous non-Newtonian fluid. Their eyebrow raised slowly as affirmation and understanding rushed forth "Petroleum distillate, I'd bet my life on it." The announcement had a certain formal finality that gave Utsuri a glowing confidence. Turning to Myev suddenly "Feeling rough around the edges, friend? This stuff will lube you right up. Need a wall of fire, but left your arcane focus in your other pants? Spread this forth and toss a brand for a flickering barrier of flame. ...but I'm more interested in you, you cwute wittle cerwamic..." poking the pot in the label the way an annoying animal lover might cuddle a double thumbs-down pug puppy, even giving it suggestive caresses and a little smooch.

Basho had enough, as the mouth on their breast spat upwards "Oy, that desire is suffering...remember your teachings now...if these were going to turn they would have decades ago."

"I'm good!" she said cheerfully. She was clearly straining a bit, but few things made her as happy as new parts for new toys, so she was embracing the small silver lining around being stranded in trapped, beetle-infested ruins in the middle of the desert.

Baheera busies herself with looking at the structure they are actually in, studying the walls and architecture.

Applying the Historical Knowledge benefit of the Archeologist background.
"When you enter a ruin or dungeon, you can correctly ascertain its original purpose and determine its builders, whether those were dwarves, elves, humans, yuan-ti, or some other known race."

Utsuri:
It is indeed oil and could in theory work as fuel for torches, lamps, lanterns, etc. That being said this particular oil was more for lubrication of gears and mechanical parts, and while burning, it would produce a fair amount of sooty smoke while burning.

Tekumbray, satisfied with the north, western door, proceeds to investigate the door in the western wall south of him. A quick search reveals that this door, much like the one he just checked is not trapped, not locked, with no sounds coming from beyond the door.

Baheera:
Studying the walls around you, you believe that this structure was a temple of sorts at one time. Who built it? You are not sure. There are hallmarks of human construction, but there are some oddities that are inconsistent with your experience in observing even ancient human construction.

Tekumbray attempts to fling open the door, but finds the stone door a bit too heavy to fling. After a brief struggle, the door opens to reveal a 10-foot-wide corridor that runs forty feet west before turning north.

He was just about to pass it by completely when something on the southern wall of the corridor caught Tek's attention. Just as he was about to mention it, Myev noticed what appeared to be a door-like shape in the stonework of the wall. If it weren't for the lighted sandals around Utsuri's neck, the oddity would have likely been missed.

What would you like to do? The auras around Utsuri's token are bright light and dim light from the light spell cast on the sandals.

"Look," Myev says, pointing towards the door-like shape in the wall. "Secret door?" She moves forward slowly, pressing on the door shape, trying to see if it will give way without needing to find some kind of pesky switch or button.

"Ooooh, master! A secret door, just like the legendary shinobi temple Myouritsu." the blade excitedly related, still balancing the pots of oil in one hand.

Sounding as if woken from a nap, Basho answered "Er...yes, my astute pupil, let us hope this guards not the last pitfall before the chamber of self-disembowelment...nor a hideout of hidden warriors..." leaning cautiously towards the portal.

Myev pushes on the door-like shape in the wall, and to her surprise it depresses and slides into the wall leaving a five-foot wide opening.

As the light from Utsuri's spell floods the now open chamber, seven creatures that appear to be akin to very large mosquitos come to life and begin flying around the chamber. A faint glitter catches your eye from the center of the room as the creatures fly toward you.

Utsuri sprang into action with lightning reflexes, blowing past Myev in a blur, doing some kind of 360 vertical spin before crashing into the biggest of the blood-sucking beasts...then, as if their body sensed the movements of the others with something beyond sight, executed a dancing flourish that ended with another shin-strike...

Thier back cracked backwards in a position that would normally kill a man, yet instead Utsuri rushed forward on all fours in reverse, a beast with upside-down mirror face. At maximum velocity and with a sick *crrrk* popping at once back into form like a spring...thier legs slingshotting across the space in a perfectly semi-circular arc. The blade made the air sing softly as they swiped across in resonance with its natural vibrations. *yyyewf*

"Mmm...too aggressive, you have winded yourself before becoming the wind." Basho bluntly informed. "Utsuri-san, use the Stunning Strike. You are ready."

There was a split second of hesitation before the barefoot monk executed a power-slide putting them just at the flank of another flying mosquito. They stood perfectly erect, before beginning to poke precise tiny pinpoint nerves with one-finger strikes, in combination with tiny twists of the flesh at equally certain positions on the atlas of insectoid musculature.

Nothing happened.

"*sigh* The same sloppiness of your calligraphy. The ratio of lengths on the written character of 'ryuo' matches the proportions of anatomy you must alter. Only in the synergy of arts can the life-line of mortals be struck."

Utsuri quickly enters the room and unleashes a flurry of unremarkable attacks, leaving them open for the mosquito like creatures swarm the silver-skinned monk.

Tekumbray drops back and fires off a shot that pierces clean through his target, dropping the creature instantaneously dead.

No surprise, thus no advantage. Utsuri was next to your target, so sneak attack applies.

Silas is up.

DM, I was actually hoping the oil flasks would spill/fall and be ignitable by party member for the 5 fire damage for ending its turn in the square. If that's too lame/wacky/tasteless no worries.

Moving to where she can see into the room, Bageera looks at the swarm of huge mosquito-like creatures surrounding Utsuriand takes a risk. With a gesture and a expression of will, the Djinn-bound conjures a small flame to set light to the oil beneath the flying creatures.

Prestidigitation (light a fire)

Goblin Caves Side View | Lost City Map | Roll20 Maps

Baheera sets a magical spark off on the oily ground. Slowly the flame begins to spread as the fire begins to produce a dark, sooty smoke.

Utsuri will be able to move out of the oil spill on the map on their turn to avoid catching fire themselves. The sooty smoke is effectively providing cover for all in the room. Additionally, anyone inside the room with the stirges will need to make a DC 10 CON Save or be at disadvantage on attacks and ability checks for the round.

Meebo is up to finish up the round. Following that, Silas, Utsuri, and Tek can post their round 2 actions.

*flap whack flap whack flap whack* The creature's wing slapped Utsuri in the face repeatedly, as pint after pint was slowly siphoned up the elongated sucky-straw embedded in the monk's jugular. Basho offered "You must calm yourself, steadying your mind like the still edge of waters..."

"Huh? the umbrella startled at the blade's sudden appearance, a second sun descending from a crisp blue sky. "Mom, Utsuri's back!" taking a few steps before falling face first and tangling their ribs on the dark-wood stained planks of the humble, paper-windowed shack in the forest.

A big wooden mallet rose slowly from a meditative pose, doing their best to hold back a round, toothy grin. Meanwhile a yard rake waddled over to the window to get a better look, sliding the panel to the side as every leaf on the mountainside seemed to point straight upwards.

There the blade hovered in the air some 40 ft off the ground, shimmering in translucence...flickering in uncertainty. Of course by its side was the bamboo flute, never found far from its companion...and even the strange rice sandals flapped like a bird between them "Why are we here again, master? My Anauroch training is complete?"

"...no. You failed to see the winds kissing the flames, they were to be your shield...the temperance to the blade. You are too eager to protect them. *sigh* You've yet to even master the legendary Flurry of Blows. You must let the fountain of wisdom that pours forth in each moment ease your mind, only by walking both realms simultaneously can you embrace ki...the wind cutting our two universes. I've brought you here to remember." Basho explained. But the flute soon saw the look on the blade's face, there was no happiness in returning to this place of their past. Utsuri had, it now seemed clear to their master, to have left this spiritual realm wholly behind...rather than carrying it along, and nurturing crossovers.

"No, there is something stronger keeping me there..." letting the rice sandals flutter down to land on their finger. "Love. I'm eager for this one's arrival." they explained, to the supreme disappointment of their master.
