Mundane, ongoing: 2d6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2, 3) + 1 + 1 = 7
Wendy takes her aunt’s advice, and sneaks in as a red haired schoolgirl. The color draws attention, but without a hat and specs, and her hair not in its usual frizz, Wendy does not seem to be the famous Hatrix teen whose victory selfies are making her face known.

…fortunately known for the hat and rose-tinted glasses.

The storm before the storm:

After the meeting, Wesley floats up to the small observation deck that she's claimed as her own spot in the base. It's not personalized much, just a couple fold-up chairs and a little table where she leaves her pack that contains the lamp. In a corner, there's a steadily growing collection of girls' clothes and shoes.

Wendy is not far. She’s in her workshop, putting the finishing touch on some gloves that look fit for an Ironman cosplayer.

“Okay, Barbs… switch on the holo—“ There’s a pop, a sizzle, an array of sparks. ”—F+!$!!”

Something metal clatters to the floor. Something metal and round rolls under the work table. “Oh, f$~$ing f~*&.”

"You okay?" Wes shouts down, immediately alarmed after being pulled out of her "mindfulness" meditation.

Barbs calmly shimmies under the table to retrieve the washer while Wendy reaches down for her Allen wrench.

”Yeah… just a bit frustrated.”

((Unleash 7 / Angry))
She explains, ”It’s the gloves for Megan. Holo-technology can make it look like she’s ready to blast. Just gotta tweak it.

“Ugh,” she groans, ”Looks so fake! ’Cause it is fake.”

Wesley flies over to just behind Wendy. She starts rubbing her shoulders, trying to work some of the tension out. "Don't let 'perfect' become the enemy of 'pretty good.'"

Wendy relaxes. She makes a couple more tweaks—working slower but relatively calmly with Wes on shoulders…

Finally she dons a glove, and a swirling light makes it appear as if she could release a blast.

”Light looks good. I need a sound effect, don’t I?” She looks up at Wes, the back of her head squishing those amazing breasts a little.

"How about: Thphphthth!"

Wendy drops her Allen wrench again, but instead of shouting the eff word, she laughs.

“How can you make a raspberry sound when I squish your breasts? Are you trying to replace the dirty old man’s pull-my-finger gag?”

Wes's smile falters. "I wasn't-- no, it was supposed to be a sound effect to the gloves! That was just a coincidence that you were, um, squishing..."

She steps back and cups her breasts, looking down at them. I didn't really notice that. I'm getting used to these things.

Wendy calms herself. “No, I got the joke. The timing…”

As she struggles for words, Barbs says, “The timing is perfect for a break, Wendy. I can create a sound effect that simulates a photon charge… or flatulence, if you prefer. The latter is a jest; the former, serious.”

Wendy shrugs, ”I think that’s a hint.”

"Okay? A hint for you, or a hint for us?" Wes says, still unsure of how intelligent the doll really is.

The doll replies, ”Both. Ken can help me.”

The Lunar New Year Barbie approaches as Barbs says this.

Wendy steps back from her chair.

Wesley closes the space between them and hugs Wendy tight. Her dysphoria always lessened when close to her girlfriend.

Wendy is much more relaxed in Wesley’s arms. She holds her close and after a quiet moment, she asks, “Are you excited, Wes?”

She shakes her head. "No, not really. Nervous. Anxious. Worried. Excited just doesn't seem to be in there."

Wendy gives Wes a little kiss on the nose. ”I got a lot of confidence in Carmen, especially after Diego baited her and she was… exactly what a team leader has to be.

“We’ll beat him, Wes…” She hesitates. “…and then, well… y’know…”

Wesley catches the hesitation. "And then... we'll figure it out," she says bravely. "I don't know what it's going to be like after... and just taking a bunch of stuff from him isn't going to mean he doesn't have the lamp as the ultimate contingency plan... So... I'm trying to live in the moment."

She telekinetically scoops them both up and gently floats them to the ceiling. "And at the moment, I'm flying with my girlfriend."

Comfort and Support 7

Wendy wraps her legs around Wes’ hips and leans back.

”Oh! Before I get too caught up in the moment…

“Are you planning to wear a niqab tonight, or a burka?” She grins, ”’Cause your girlfriend made you a present!”

Wesley looks unsure. "I don't know. It feels weird, sorta cultural appropriation weird. Plus, I don't speak Arabic, so I might get found out pretty quick." But she does look intrigued about her being given a present.

Wendy replies, ”A valid concern… but you said you can change your form, can’t you?

“Well… what I prepared for you is something that can be seen if changing form also means you can alter clothing.”

She has RoboBarbie come out. The tall fembot is wearing an onyx hair chain…

…only, it doesn’t look like what a professional jeweler would make.

More like something a teenage girl modeled after something really expensive that her gorgeous cousin owns, and threw together with shards of onyx and black bands from her Rainbow Loom.

The good news is: ”What it lacks in beauty, it more than makes up for with structural integrity!

”Heh?”

Wesley coughs softly, warring with confusion and putting an effort into looking sufficiently grateful at being given a piece of jewelry. "Um, thank you?" Somehow she had thought Wendy might be giving her a gadget of some kind, even though that was pretty ridiculous given her genie powers. But then she notices the onyx in the piece. Oh.

"I thought the onyx was a one-time use deal?"

She says, ”It is… but even if disguised, you might come face-to-face with the Curator.

“I think we should use this today. I can line the inside of a hat with it if you’d rather.”

Wes quickly shakes her head. "No, no. This is fine. It's, um, pretty. I mean, beautiful." She takes it and starts to try it on.

Wendy laughs, ”Oh, it’s horrid! I had my hopes up when you said you’d cover your head.

“Seriously, can you magic that thing to look like what it’s supposed to be? Without the W-word. I can still put it in a cute hat.”

"I can try." Wes pulls out her phone and Infini-searches "hair chain" to get some ideas on what it's supposed to look like. Then she unleashes her genie powers.

((C&S 7 for the gift presentation/acceptance!))

Unleash 10 to make the hair chain beautiful. Also clearing Insecure

Wesley turns the ornamentation over and back in her hands. "I think that did the trick." She smiles at Wendy, but doesn't put it on just yet. "If he can sense me, no reason to cut myself off from him until the gala starts, huh? Then he'll be too busy to do anything about it."

Wesley pulls Wendy in for a lingering kiss. When their lips part, she whispers, "Whatever happens, Wendy, you've been the part that has made this whole nightmare worth it. Thank you."

Wendy has more to talk about… so much more! But she decides to thank Wes back with an even longer kiss…

Wesley opts for the niqab. It was a little strange but her Arcanum hood and cloak were almost comparable to the traditional garb.

Mundane: 2d6 - 1 ⇒ (5, 6) - 1 = 10

Wesley's guess turns out to be correct, because the sheik's entourage contains several ladies in niqabs. Her shapechanging powers allowed her to get close, and then she slips inside with the group with none the wiser!

Tumbler was surprised, having only come to drop off the uniform and not expecting to run into Derby. "...You want to know the truth? Our odds of succeeding at this are not in our favor. There's a 50/50 chance we all end up caught and at the Curator's mercy, and probably a 25% of even getting to the Curator's vault. If this wasn't for Wes' sake, I would scrap the whole damn heist and plan ahead three months for another opportunity. But Wes doesn't have that time. So we're doing this."

Clearing Insecure

Carmen 'Encino' has her best wait staff uniform and smile on, looking like any other member of the staff catering the event. It was easy to be overlooked, even if you had a noticeable disfigurement. She files in, grabs a tray and starts doing the rounds, nodding and keeping her eyes on the ground, a servant amongst the elite.

Ziss stops at the base to pick her dress and try it. As she wears it, she discovers her butt became huge thanks to the dark fabric. Blending a few Amazonia-esque accessories with formal wear had actually been very helpful. Megan didn't need to not stand out, but she didn't need to have the costume perfect either. Her dress was long and annoyingly constricting, but hey, I can just flex and burst free of everything above my singlet, so fair's fair. Derbs getting stuck with the bill 's just gravy.

Diego and Wendy blend in with the class of high school students, while Ziss glides in with the invitation Tumbler procured. Carmen herself slips in among the waitstaff, while Wesley blends seamlessly among the Sheik's entourage. And Megan, as Amazonia, is swiftly shown to her security position outside the doors of the main hall. You've all made it inside the museum without arousing suspicion.

Dozens of people mingle within the museum's foyer, where the waitstaff serves hors d'oeuvres and drinks. The doors to the main exhibit hall remain closed for now.

As Carmen makes the rounds, she notices a few of the security guards have key cards inside their jacket pockets. One of those should help her access the museum's restricted areas.

Wendy keeps her eyes peeled as she wanders the reception area. The Curator himself has not arrived yet, but Wendy picks out another large threat among the crowd. After all, it's hard to overlook a dangerous supervillain like Spinneret! She is in her human form, and even though it has been months since that fateful battle which brought the Bay Watchmen together and cost Carmen her arm, it would be a safe bet that Spinneret's power has not diminished. And if Spinneret were to notice Carmen among the waitstaff, she would be in great danger, indeed...

In the vents, the Beret nimbly avoids the sensors and alarms. She takes stock of the control panel. Thanks to the schematics Carmen previously acquired, she can temperarily disable the alarm system without rousing suspicons when the team is ready to make their move.

Back in the foyer, Ziss sees quite a few people admiring the way the dress fits her. They are mostly men, but a handful are women. They would likely be susceptible to her words should she try to charm them.

However, distracted as she is by the glitz and glamor, she nearly walks right into Sheik al Fawari! His bodyguards step forward, but he waves them off. "No harm done, gentlemen," he says. He looks Ziss up and down, his smile widening. "What an enchanting beauty you are, milady. Are you here unescorted tonight? It would be a shame, to be sure..."

The second digit looks more like a P than a nine, and the zigzag in the middle looks more like two N’s than two twos. And yeah… clearly that’s Spinneret’s name on the napkin. There’s also an arrow pointing to the ‘phone number.’ It’s also pointing to where Wendy just came from.

Pickpocketing (Mundane): 2d6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (6, 4) + 1 + 1 = 12

Carmen didn't actually look at the napkin just yet, taking it to place with the side bag at her hip that the waitstaff had for holding waste until they could get back to the catering area - no need to have it distastefully displayed on their serving platters. She was already beelining for the security guards.

Carmen was an expert thief (She'd never call herself a master until acknowledge so by her mentor) so she was able to approach security with her platter of appetizers, and even one handed knew how to lift the keycard without ever being felt. "You guys deserve a snack as well," She tells them, the platter obscuring his vision as she bumped him briefly enough to draw out the card without anyone seeing. It went right up her sleeve as she balanced the tray on her stumped arm.

It wasn't until she finished that task that she turned and spotted her. She'd worked with her long enough to recognize her face, even in her human form. Her missing hand throbbed, her pulse quickened, and sweat suddenly beaded at her hairline. She swallowed with a mouth that was suddenly dry as a bone before moving along as she normally did. She checked the glasses to see how far along the Beret was to gaining control over the systems - she didn't dare risk using the Ear Buddies until that was done!

Though, after a brief moment to think, she glances at the napkin - well, that could have saved her the shock, if only a little bit.

Ziss freezes for a moment, the look on the Sheik's face bringing many painful feelings and memories, but if she did that, she'd not be able to help Wes. Steeling herself, she tries to think what Tumbler would do. Charm, mislead, and poison.

After another fifteen minutes or so, the lights in the foyer dim and the crowd begins to fall silent as an Arabic ensemble take the stage. They play an enchanting melody on their traditional instruments: the oud, the nay, the qanun, the violin, the riqq.

The crowd applauds as the band finishes the song and Professor Algernon Braithwaite emerges at last. He is a handsome, well-groomed man in his late forties. His impeccably tailored suit is embroidered with shining golden threads, and he wields a bejeweled cane more for effect than out of necessity. He beams at the crowd as he gazes down at them from in front of the doors to the main exhibit hall.

"Ladies. Gentlemen. Thank you, one and all, for coming out tonight. As always, your donations will be going to a fantastic cause: the preservation of historical artifacts like the ones that you are about to witness. I know you all have been eagerly waiting to catch a glimpse of the wonders we have prepared for you tonight, so let us not delay and further! I present to you--'Tales of Scheherazade!'"

The crowd cheers again as the doors behind the Curator open wide! He steps aside and begins shaking hands and greeting the guests as they file in to the main exhibit hall.

Inside, dozens of impressive artifacts are on display. Rugs, tapestries, statuettes, and more objects from ancient Egypt, Persia, and Arabic nations adorn the hall. In one corner, silk-clad dancers writhe and gyrate to the band's music. The lights are dim and have colored filters to give the whole thing a mysterious, almost otherworldly air...

Ziss has never been with a girl... or anyone actually. She hadn't ever kissed anyone and for sure had no idea how to flirt, but perhaps she could follow Nicole's lead, at least until she needed to return to the mission. …end quickly?
Wendy knows this is not a rush job, but her mind is working out scenarios on how each team member needs to be positioned at go-time.

Once a move is made, all moves must be made… and is this the only room? She’s seen the blueprint. If there’s another door that need be opened first, this is considered.

How can we end this quickly? is relative to go-time. If she finds a way, she can napkin-sketch it for Carmen, who apparently collects napkins and hopefully reads hers!

…vulnerable to me? (A real person, not like Miss Mummy.)
She knows security is tight, and hell, the Darling Derby is actually getting a good rep after that sea monster fight!

So who falters at the sight of a teenage girl. Any male security guards who go outta their way to not look, because they’re not creeps and don’t intend to appear as such?—or they watch the boys, since boys are more likely to act like asshoIes and embarrass the school and ruin field trips for the grade one year behind? Or… what about the ones who DO watch teenage girls? Not just creeps, but older women seeing us and reminiscing on their youth…?

As Wendy considers who is most vulnerable to me? her mind remains fixated on the part she’s playing, and so she watches how other people look at her schoolmates too—as catching anyone looking at her might cause the other’s eyes to flinch away.

"You sound like a character from a sci-fi movie!" Nicole says with a laugh.

Ziss examines the artifacts as she walks about. Though no doubt valuable, few of them seem to be inherently useful at the moment. However, she does spot Tutankhamun's meteoric iron dagger, on loan from the Egyptian Museum of Cairo. The material the blade is made from might be particularly effective against certain supernatural creatures. Of course, its absence would be noted unless steps were taken to prevent that from happening.

Once more preoccupied with her own thoughts, Ziss is surprised when Nicole suddenly stops short. She grimaces as an older woman in a smart business suit approaches. She has the same dark hair and blue eyes as Nicole, but Ziss has seen her before on the news. It's none other than Janet Jordenson, the CEO of Genecroft and owner of many businesses in Bay City--including the bayfront marina that was destroyed during the battle in which the Bay Watchmen first came together!

"There you are," Janet says as she approaches. Her cold gaze takes in Ziss hanging on her daughter's arm and she frowns slightly. "Already made a new friend, I see?"

"Mother, this is Ziss," Nicole says.

"Ziss. An interesting name." She peers closer. "You look...familiar. Have we met before?"

***

Assessing the situation herself, Wendy believes that the best way to end this quickly would be to slip away from the main hall and access the restricted areas of the museum, including the vault where the obsidian mirror may be stored. The doors to those areas are in this room, but they are under heavy guard.

None of those guards, though, appear to be superpowered. That means they can be distracted, bamboozled, or otherwise drawn away. Surely the Darling Derby is capable of exploiting such a vulnerability!

Carmen took a short break in the bathroom, locking herself in a stall and taking some time to wipe her brow free of sweat and get herself back under control. She could absolutely avoid Spinneret. But the rest of the team also had to be warned - Spinneret could make most of them at a glance if they weren't careful. She and Diego had worked for her, so they both had to take a wide, wide berth from the spider lady.

So she risked the Ear Buddies, even not knowing if Beret had managed to tap the system yet. "Heads up - our first foe is amongst the flock. Do not engage, avoid at all costs," She tells the team, quickly and quietly before slipping back into her place as part of the staff.

Now...

What the f@** was Ziss doing?!

When had she gotten a date? Why was she talking with Janet Jordenson? This was exactly why she preferred a plan with time to drill!

"Hors d'oeurves, miss?" She said from behind Janet, keeping her eyes to the floor like her station allotted in order to assist Ziss' getaway. "We have smoked salmon canapés with a cream cheese on gluten free cracker, honeyed lamb brochettes, and hummus on pita chips..." She droned to keep attention off of her teammate and hoping that she got the hint to make herself scarce.

Wesley is relieved to see Daniela, though she's worried for her. She pats the pair of notes she'd prepared in advance in case she needed to send a message to her. One was a simple, "get out NOW!" message from Wesley while the other told her to "find a way to get out discretely."

She hoped neither note would be necessary, but it was better to be prepared. Wes also hoped that she wouldn't have to reveal herself as Wesley to Daniela -- she wasn't ready to share with her that he'd become female.

Wes tried to keep her eyes off of the Curator. She watched him during his brief speech, then kept her eyes downcast or focused on the exhibits.

Wendy does not directly reply to the Ear-Buddy warning, but does mutter as if to herself, ”Where can I throw this napkin away?”

"Is dis bad or good?" She asks Nicole, curious.

Ziss freezes for a moment when she discovers Janet was Nicole's mother. Her gaze made Ziss feel as if Nicole had brought a stinky flea-ridden stray home. The only silver lining was that Janet did not recognized her... actually, how could she? Ziss had always used her kitsune mask in their missions, used her alias of White Fox, and on top of that had her aging incident.

"I don't fink we've ever met, Ms. Jordensen, but I've certainly seen you in de news." Ziss says, trying to be as polite as possible.

When Tumbler approaches and offers her a way out, she whispers to Nicole. "I fink your moder did not approve our friendship... I don't want to get you into trouble, so perhaps I should leave..."

"It's definitely a good thing," Nicole replies to Ziss.

Once Tumbler provides the distraction, Nicole quickly pulls Ziss away to a more discreet corner of the exhibit hall. She rolls her eyes at the suggestion to leave, though. "I've long since stopped worrying about trying to win my mother's approval. I'll deal with her later. Stay with me now."

And with that, she leans in to place a gentle kiss on Ziss's lips...

Caught by surprise by Nicole's kiss, Ziss instinctively steps back, putting a hand on her own lips, blushing. Fearing that her gesture would send the wrong signals, she puts a hand on Nicole's waist. "I'm sorry, I... I just wasn't expecting dis."

Clearly embarrassed, she asks, looking up to match Nicole's eyes. "Could you... do it again?"

"If you insist," Nicole says with a smirk. She pulls Ziss toward her and kisses her again, a bit more passionately this time.

Tumbler makes her exit swiftly after Ziss extracts herself, but also feels particularly annoyed when she goes off with her date. She does a round, whispering in the Ear Buddy. "We're looking for our opportunity to slip in the back. I have an access card, so I'm going for it. Someone distract the guards by the restricted section - quietly, don't make it a big deal," She requests as quietly as she can, depositing her tray and casually slipping in that direction.

Megan was worried. Don't think Tumbles is ready to face Spinneret. Even only from hiding. 'S not like we're just gonna leave though...

With a scowl on her face that she didn't need to fake, Megan stalked over to the guards, eyes narrowing in on the slightest hint of sloppiness. As they noticed her approach she let her mouth curve into an unpleasant smile.

"Is this what you think we expect from security? Don't look at him, look at me. Hmm?"

Before they could get so much as a word out she cut them off. "Quiet damnit! You think these people need to know what a crap job you're doing? You wouldn't last two seconds back in Halcyon..."

Hearing Carmen making her move and Megan attempting a distraction, Wendy decides a snide remark from a kid will both emphasize ‘Amazonia’s’ point and and turn heads from Carmen.

She waits for the inevitable awkward silence, then gestures toward Nicole and Ziss kissing. ”Wow… like, get a room.”

She then mills around within the crowd, just hoping her addition to Meg’s distraction is enough.

The guard Megan provoked bristles and postures at her challenge. "Oh, you think you're a big shot just because you've come from Halcyon? This is Bay City, b+&~$. You don't know this place like we do." He gets in her face, stepping away from the doors momentarily.

At the same time, Wendy draws attention to Ziss and Nicole making out. The high school students break into a chorus of giggles and whistles, drawing several more sets of curious eyes, including some of the other guards. The doors are unobserved...

Tumbler slips forward once the guards aren't looking, brushing the keycard to allow her access. Seeing Wendy coming along, she makes sure she has just enough time to slip in before it locks shut.

Knowing that there's unlikely anyone to hear them, she growls as she looks at Derby. "She was not supposed to be on the distraction. I need Ziss to be with me in the vault," Tumbler informs her. "We'll figure that out later. Right now, let's move while we still have our window."

Using her knowledge of the blueprints, Tumble will lead the way towards the vault area, doing her best to avoid cameras and other people. She's very good at finding blind angles to slip under to avoid detection. Though she also knows that the Beret is working on keeping the alarms from going off.

The world fades around Ziss as Nicole kisses her. It was her first real kiss ever, and while she did not know what to do, she let Nicole guide her.

Ziss blushes furiously as Wendy calls the attention of others to her and the high schoolers start to giggle and whistle. It takes her a huge amount of self control not to bolt away and to ignore those around her.

"Dis was wonderful, Nicole... But dis is as far as we'll go dis night." She says, looking at Nicole. "Maybe we'll meet again anoder night, but now I must leave you, as my attendance to dis gala isn't entirely for pleasure."

Nicole looks disappointed, but she nods in understanding. "Okay. Before you go, though... Here's my number." She whispers the phone number to Ziss before turning toward her mother, who is already stomping over with an angry look on her face. Ziss takes the opportunity to make herself scarce.

Meanwhile, several other security guards are beginning to converge on Megan, while Wesley remains disguised among the Sheikh's companions...

Diego takes advantage of the dual distraction and slips through the door right behind Carmen and Wendy. Carmen leads the way through the access corridors. Luckily, the Beret has successfully disabled the mundane security measures.

As they approach the vault, they come across a door that was not marked on tbe blueprints. The door is labeled "Specimen Containment." The hall continues past this door...

What do you do?

Ziss notices Diego slipping through the doors, and since Wendy caused the distraction, she assumes she did as well. Ziss walks around the gala, trying to find the others, but managing to locate only Wes and Megan.

She knew they were all supposed to get through, so she started to thing about what she could do, since another distraction would most likely draw too much attention...

Assess: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (2, 2) + 2 = 6 What’s my best way past the guards?

Indeed, there's been too much commotion by the doors to try to get past the guards a second time. The best way past now would be to squeeze through the vents, but that would have been a lot easier for Ziss with her original body.

Unfortunately, all of Ziss's wanderings this evening have not gone unnoticed. A pair of guards step forward and corner her along one of the hall's walls. "Excuse us, miss. Professor Braithwaite would like a word with you..."

What do you do?
