It's Paizo in need of belly rubs, I'm afraid. The forums are really struggling to cope at the moment, and often do the thing where the post won't pop up for a minute (so many cross posts...) or just eats a post.

Blaze Goldenhoof |

Just a reminder that Blaze has a magic weapon, thanks to Sven's spell. Just in case the creature has resistance to non magical weapons

Sven Knudson |

Okay, I think I need to ask this. Are we going to continue playing? I'd love to, but I don't know if everyone's in the same boat. If we're gonna keep going, count on me.

Redemption of the Azure Flame |

I'm happy to keep playing. I've been playing in a couple of games like this on Discord, and one fairly hectic West March style server. Not sure about other forums that might work, however.

Blaze Goldenhoof |

I find this website has always been a bit of a post-eater, but I've finally developed the habit of saving everything I write before posting it. I'm happy to keep playing here, or moving to discord. I'm also playing a game on the giantitp forum (order of the stick website), but their dice roller is very persnickety, and I don't like it.

Shandi Zelz'ah |

I would really hate to move from this site. Of course, I will think about it, but with a high probability I will not continue the game elsewhere. In other words, I want to keep playing 100 percent, but I wouldn't want to change anything.
By the way, I have never lost posts when publishing, but when editing, it often happens that the site cannot reflect the editing the first time and everything can get lost. Perhaps it happens differently for you, I just shared how it happens for me.
Like Blaze, I already have an automatic habit of saving posts (cmd/ctrl-c) before publishing.

5E DM |

Ok we will stay here. I copy everything for sure, though sometimes it looks like it posted when it didn't and either double posts or not at all. I can't seem to get this website to work on chrome for me I am having to use microsoft edge not sure why.
New post is up but started a new page so might miss it.

Shandi Zelz'ah |

Hello everyone!
I'm going on a trip until July 4th. I will try to come here from the phone, but I still may not have enough time to write posts. I'm also sorry, I was obviously not active enough this week (or rather, even since last Friday) - preparing for the trip plus the start of a new business project took more time and effort in total than I expected. From July 5, I plan to enter the normal mode of an active player. Until then, bot me as you see fit.
With best wishes,
‘Eκάτη
PS
5E DM, thank you very much for agreeing to stay on this forum.

Sven Knudson |

I think we're waiting to be introduced to the local tavern and start developing the archetypical "heroes enter the tavern" scene.

Blaze Goldenhoof |

I think we've been orphaned. I've dm'ed the GM, no reply.
Should we go to recruitment and see if any kind GM out there wants to take over? Or do one of you want to step up to GM? I'm not up for it.
Failing that, we can ask the mods to archive the game.

Sven Knudson |

Well I was actually thinking about asking for a DM that could offer a 5e game. If someone wants to keep this one alive, then that works for me.

Shandi Zelz'ah |

Unfortunately, I have no one to offer to GM this game and I'm not ready myself either. But I would love to continue if another GM joins in .

Blaze Goldenhoof |

We've had a bite! GM Quirk is going to post here, to let us know what their ideas are for us. Welcome, Quirk, and thanks for your interest!

GM Quirk |

Just a quick hello for now! Right now I am at work at my job at a big downtown library (I'm not a "book librarian," I work in community television). I find myself quite busy, as I am leaving for GenCon tomorrow. I'm speaking to educators and librarians tomorrow about D&D for kids at schools and libraries. Thursday I'm going to try not to spend too much money in the exhibit hall. Back home on Friday.
I do have a vision on how this group could work. Hoping you get your druid back, and if not, maybe we can open up recruiting again. Blaze, maybe you could send the druid one more PM to let them know that there could be a DM again...
I'll try to make a brief post tonight. Maybe over the next few days we can come up with a plan to get this going again.

Sven Knudson |

Hi GM Quirk! Thank you for showing some interest.
If there's need of it, I can rearrange my character to go Cleric or whatever.

Blaze Goldenhoof |

I've DM'd Malaya (cleric) and Redemption (druid), and hopefully they'll check in to say they're still interested. Have fun at GenCon! I'm jealous!

GM Quirk |

Blaze Goldenhoof |

Awesome! Do you want to message customer support and lay claim to this thread? Or would you rather start your own campaign thread and we can all teleport over there?
No hurry, we've gone this long without playing, we can wait a little while longer.

GM Quirk |

Hello again, everyone.
My hot take is that I follow through and work with customer service to get me down as GM for this thread. I'll look into this when I return from Gen Con.
I thought I would spend a moment or two and tell you all a little about myself.
I am in the midwest U.S., and I have been playing D&D and other hobby games since 198coughcough. Yes, I am of a certain vintage. I can remember when Curse of Strahd was just an adventure called "Ravenloft." In fact, I still own my copy.
I have a lovely wife, two college-age kids, and a cat named Chef Brian. I work in community television at the main branch of my city's library system. It's a great opportunity to work with a wide range of people from many backgrounds. Many of our producers have special needs, so my patience and sense of humor have come in handy when helping them make good TV.
My first love at the moment is Starfinder. I have a few PbP campaigns that I am part of. I play in two, and run three.
I also have a local group that plays Starfinder, though we have stuck with Roll20 for our meet-ups.
Finally, I have an In-person group that is also playing Curse of Strahd! It will be fun to see how you all handle things differently from my group of local friends. In fact, one of the reasons I feel like I can take on this game is that I have already put time into preparing the sessions of my local group. They are only a little farther than all of you right now.

GM Quirk |

Let's get down to brass tacks as far as this group goes. I have a couple of ways I might be a little different than your previous DM.
First, you will immediately see a link to a set of google slides. I'm a visual person. Maps, artwork, and notes keep me organized. You all will be expected to occasionally look at the slides so you can see tactical maps and important notes on the adventure. This is pretty standard for most PbP adventures here on the Paizo site.
Also, with all of the games that I am part of, I think I have to be realistic about the frequency of my posts. It may be that instead of the usual 5-6 major posts a week, I may be more like 4. Occasionally, you may have a couple of days to create a good role-play post when presented with new NPC's. Once a combat begins, I do tend to do a better job of keeping up with posting. Please try to get your combat post in ASAP when you are up in the initiative order.
One more thing: I will be honest and say that I am not the best at 5E rules. Occasionally I may get something wrong. Please feel free to bring it up here in the discussion section, and we can correct as needed.
Of course you all may have concerns about me. That's okay. As Blaze is the one who made the post I responded to, I am sure she won't mind if you PM her if you are worried that I might be the right choice.
Otherwise, we will come up with a strategy for getting going again this weekend. If things go well, we may start to see some posting in game play in about two weeks.

Sven Knudson |

Okay, I don't recall having played with you here in the forums, but there's always a first time. You were kind enough to take on the task, and I appreciate that, so that's a good first step into us getting along well :)
As for me, I'm in my middle forties and work at my local airport -though I have a feet injury right now so I'm staying at home. I play rpgs since I was 15, back at highschool. Most importantly, I live in Europe, in CET time zone, so my posts might not be totally attuned to yours, but I usually can post every day/pair of days.
I didn't notice the "go to third level" thing, but surely I can do that. If there's anything else you want us to change, like the tremendous stat rolls we have or whatever, I'm also in for changing it - a DM should be comfortable with what they're dealing with.

Shandi Zelz'ah |

Hi, GM Quirk! Thank you so much for deciding to take our game (and to everyone who took the initiative in finding a new GM, too).
How do I understand you about Strafinder! Also my number one love at the moment (by the way, we played together once - you had Dr. Creed Morvius and I had half-drow black metal artist Yarameh).
I am in the GMT +3 time zone, so in the USA it is usually the night when I am most active on the forum. English is not my native language and PbP is the main place for practice, so I sometimes make mistakes - but it doesn't seem to be so critical that it was difficult to play with me.
By the way, I really support visual in forum games, so many thanks for future maps and art.
I am very glad that the game continues. For some reason it seems to me that it will only get better - new blood, new inspiration. A good feeling.

Redemption of the Azure Flame |

I'm Jon, I'm in the UK but I work nights, so I'm closer to EST in terms of when you're like to see me than GMT. I also make mistakes when I write, but in my case it's entirely because I'm rushing and a little lazy.
I'll try and get Redemption updated shortly.

Blaze Goldenhoof |

Thanks again for taking us on, I'm excited for the direction you're looking to take us.
I'm also a "well-seasoned" player, though I started with GURPS and didn't get into D&D until 3.5. I've tried a little Starfinder, but both games fizzled before I could really figure them out.
Currently I'm on the west coast of Canada, so I'm usually posting after everybody has gone to bed (or when I'm bored at work).
Does anybody remember what we were doing for hit points? I'm being lazy about scrolling back to figure it out.
Looking forward to moving forwards! I'm enjoying Blaze, and was loathe to give up on the game. Too bad we seem to have lost Malaya too....maybe she'll show up again.

Velspira Ridani |

Thank you
I myself am 24 years old and typically spend a bit of time in a small office of my own working for a museum or two. If not working on a presentation I'm somewhat goofing off or working on an essay for classes.
I've been playing since I was 16 years old and started with Pathfinder 1e. I'm a Marylander so EST.

Sven Knudson |

I think we used the official rules (half die+1). At least, I did the math on my character and it seems that's what I did.

GM Quirk |

Good evening everyone.
I returned from Gen Con Thursday night, then got up to go to work yesterday. Other than shoveling some dirt at the behest of my wife today, I am enjoying some rest this weekend.
Gen Con was nice. I spoke at Trade Day Wednesday to other librarians and educators about D&D for kids. I believe it was well-received. Had one person from Peru there! I gave her one of my 3D prints. She gave me some stickers.
Didn't spend too much money in the exhibit hall. I did buy the new D&D starter box ("Dragons of Stormwreck Isle"). This appears to have an excellent adventure with some neat maps. Also bought some dice from my FAVORITE DICE GUY..
So...
I have a few thoughts on your characters. There is a concern.
Your original DM allowed for substantially higher ability scores than usual. While I'm certainly not judging his intentions or reasons for allowing this, I'm just not sure it works for me. I feel like I may have to "turn some dials" in order for the adventure as written to be challenging for you. That may require some work on my part, and I would rather put my energy into more posts here, rather than fiddling with encounters to make them challenging.
I'd really prefer if you all would rework ability scores using the standard 27 point buy.
Please remember that you will have the opportunity to improve your ability scores very soon. At fourth level you'll be able to add +2 to one ability score or +1 to two different scores (or take a feat instead of any improvement).
I'll throw you a bone: Let's do maximum hit points for your first three levels. Starting at 4th, we'll do average HP + con bonus/penalty. Heck, you can even round up the average HP (so, for example, a D8 for HP will give you 5 new HP).
Other than that, I LOVE your characters. I love that there is a druid in the group. You're very high magic. I have this vision of you all having a spell battle with Strahd among the spires of his castle. Maybe it will happen.
On paper, a cleric seems like a great idea for this adventure. That said, with five of you ready to be active again, I don't necessarily feel the need to open recruitment again. Please let me know your feelings about this.
I would be open to any of you deciding to completely re-work your character at this point. Obviously this seems like the appropriate time to do this. Please give it some thought.
I do hope none of you are too disappointed about having your ability scores nerfed. There are just too many encounters in the book you'll cut through too easily.
Hope to post more tomorrow. I might have some slides to show you!
Shandi, I do remember your black metal drow character! That was a fun game!

Shandi Zelz'ah |

Beautiful slides! Immediately create an incredible atmosphere. I am especially glad that I will be able to look at Tarrokka's cards.
I don't have any problems with re-scattering ability scores. I had doubts initially about the increased stats, as I understand how much extra work this creates for the GM.
It remains only to find the time and do it, along with level 3. Obviously I need a couple more days.
