Yambul moves up to break the circle.
"Now look here, we're not here to fight you, but we will if you insist."
"We found one of your cymbals, no, not symbols, cymbals. Anyway, we found it while investigating that child was killed the other day."
"The townsfolk are going to blame you for this, same as that old guy they've got locked up already. We're trying to clear your names first. So why don't you tell us what you know, and we'll be on our way - and no one will trouble you further. The alternative is much more unpleasant."
Intimidate: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
Ooohh, I hope this works!

Rūha |

Rūha watches with concern as the group takes a more aggressive approach. She'd have rather handled it with more honesty - but by this point with the oddly speaking Varisians on edge, it would be hard to do it any other way than Yambul was taking. She watches the group for any individual member acting oddly, especially if the cymbals are shown off.

Yambul's intimidating presence prevents the Varisians from closing the circle around Zzvkgrogk.
The group quickly steps back and start victimizing talking in a cacophony "We are not the guilty ones villager." "Why always have to be us?" "We killed no child"
A woman even feigns fainting to the ground.
When confronted with the real proof of the finger-cymbals though, they all turn towards the only one of them that has not approached you and is holding a low profile, staying behind one of the tents "Those are Ilarris finger-cymbals, villager!"
"We just met her in the road a few days before arriving to Iadenveigh, villager!" shouts one pointing at the woman "We only invited her because of Varisina kinship"
Another one kisses his fist before extending his arm towards you "She is not one of our group, I promise you villager!"
The accused woman, a hot-blooded long haired brunette of clear Varisian ancestry but with some elvish features, does not try to mediate word with you. She just suddenly turns away and starts running towards the village Elkhorn Wall at the edge of the yard.

Yambul: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
Zzvkgrogk: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
When she is just a few feet away from the massive rampart of earth and stone, her boots are surrounded by crackling rays of energy and she starts to walk on the air, saving the 15 height before disappearing.
To spice up things, we are going to use a relaxed version of the chase rules. Check the map, to better understand the situation.
With Ilarris on a head start, Zzvkgrogk notices the woman is about to run, and he squeezes below the legs of the Varisians and crosses the yard reaching immediately the wall.
The others need to find a way through the wall of people first that start to yell and move their hands in panic and confusion, before you can cross the yard and reach the wall.
The Varisians: Chaance, Rhoreen, Rūha, Yambul

Squeeze Through
Escape Artist, Untrained: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
The elf decides that the time for contentious words is at an end, so engages in the pursuit of the faux Varisian, hoping to lay an arrow into the back of her haunch. She doesn't immediately see that an airborne woman might not be slowed as easily. She simply determines to lay eyes on her.

GM Rutseg |

Used to action and sudden changes of pace by now, Rhoreen, Chaance and Rūha move in between the Varisians who are frozen in place, surprise by the development of the events.
Meanwhile Yambul, in a derring-do action display, jumps over one of the trunk piles to avoid the gathered people, and running at incredible speed over them, jumps all the distance to grab himself to the Elkhorn Wall and make it all up and down in a controlled way.
At the other side, the Kellid sees the Varisian has disappeared under the cover of the dense canopy of trees, and even once on the ground, he cannot directly see her.

GM Rutseg |

Presented to the wall, Rhoreen defies gravity and places her body at the other side just that easily.
Just a bit behind her Chaance climbs briskly over the wall, reaching the top and deciding to press the chase to not leave Yambul alone...
Despite her companions are stuck at the wall, trying to find a way to pass through.
Meanwhile Yambul spots what are clear steps to his well trained eyes, and runs forward, yelling and trying to leave some marks for the others coming behind, making the forest navigation easier for them.
Yambul success reduces the difficulty for the rest of the team
After a few minutes of running, breaking through bushes, and avoiding tree trunks, the Kellid starts to hear the noise of moving water. He presses harder just to see the Varisian land at the other side of the river and disappearing again on the forest, likely after walking again in the air.
Swimming through the running waters seems risky, but a faster success than trying to find a place to ford the river. That is, if the waters do not bring you downstream!
Meanwhile at the yard, Heddick has mobilized his men and they are bringing a wooden stair to the wall "Here! Find that culprit!" and set it up on the walls for Zzvkgrogk and Rūha to follow the rest of the group.

Chaance sees the path opened by Yambul in the forest and follows suit.
Rhoreen hears the yells and follows too, descending at some point to the ground to not spend all her magic miracles of the day.
With plenty of efforts, Rūha manages to climb the offered stairs, which does not delay Zzvkgrogk who follows after her.
Yambul meanwhile keeps away from the river and tries to find a way to cross it without much success, as his first attempt to run east finds no shallow waters or natural bridge.
The ratfolk quickly spots the tracks on the forest and starts following the signs. He thinks the Varisian is likely trying to reach the river in that direction to try her tracks being lost. With a mixture of orientation and deduction, he manages to quickly navigate the forest and slightly recover some pace with the others, although still behind.

Rūha |

With Zzvkgrogk zooming ahead, Rūha's left to try to work out which direction Yambul went. Considering how far ahead the cymbal-owner must be by now, she half wonders whether it would make more sense to return to town proper and ask Illari's erstwhile companions whether they had any idea where the woman would run to. After a moment of consideration, she decides that it's better to stay together if possible.

GM Rutseg |

Yambul and Chaance find a fallen trunk and they quickly push it over the river to create an improvised bridge.
Meanwhile, Rhoreen advances herself as she takes flight over the river and follows up trying to keep up with the escaping Varisian.
Rūha arrives to the scene a bit later after following the trace of the others. With a bit of a search, she soon finds the trunk bridge, which is easy to cross.
As the group keeps running, the forest opens into an area with less trees after a few more minutes and you spot the Varisian once more, running through the trees, she is apparently getting tired and you are shortening the distance. Then, she comes over an area with a sleeping bear, she jumps on him, waking up the beast and then passes over.
The bear stands up furious and roaring towards the next that come behind. You see the bear is strangely mutated, with half his fur turned to scales and two eyes too big for their sockets.
You could probably easily fight the bear, but that would give a chance for the Varisian to escape again. You know she is close by and going directly through the bear space will allow you to finally catch the runner.

Zzvkgrogk tells the bear plainly who the boss is, while Rūha dashes through!
At the clearing, Yambul pushes forward scoring two big hits on the Varisian.
Rhoreen catches up and Chaance shots finding inexistent holes in between the trees, one of her arrows striking through the defenses of her foe.
She slashes once more with her scimitar, despite her wounds she is a cocky one "Ha! I eat men more cooked than you for breakfast! I will talk with your corpse!"
Scimitar-Spell combat: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 9 - 2 = 17
Magical/Slashing damage+flaming: 1d6 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 2 + (6) = 12
She then steps back and 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 images of herself appear around her.
Rūha and Zzvkgrogk just arrive to the scene. You arrive to the edge of the map with a move, and still have a standard action available
Ilarris: 42 damage, considerably wounded
Chaance:
Rhoreen: mage armor
Rūha: 4 damage, mage armor
Yambul: 4 damage
Zzvkgrogk:
Round 2: Rhoreen Round 3: Rūha, Zzvkgrogk, Chaance, Yambul, Varisian

Rūha |

Rūha arrives just in time to offer a moment of advice to everyone else engaged with Ilarris. "Now would be the time to grab her and tie her up, yes? Before we find out we have the wrong person. And so we can ask some questions?"
(Enjoy a round of Advice, for +2/+2. You can apply it to a grapple if you'd like :) )

Chaance |

Round 3
AC = 17
HP = 46/46
Weapon Equipped = Tuilindo
Condition(s) = Roo
Chaance listens to the words being exchanged, less optimistic by half that they'll be able to distill meaningful intelligence from the woman. The elf glides through the trees, arcing south, should Illarris decide she's unwilling to remain in the clearing, and subject herself to interrogation.
"They called you 'Illarris'? My name is Chaance, you've already met Yambul's blade. The floating woman is Rhoreen, and you'll soon hold audience with Zzvkgrogk and Rūha, ysoki and kasatha, respectively. We're injuring you to force your surrender, nothing more. Our friends in Iadenveigh are being held for a murder they didn't commit, and we think you're either the responsible party, or you know who is. We really don't want to drag your body back. Please parlay with us."

Zzvkgrogk III |
2 people marked this as a favorite. |

Hearing the voices of is companions ahead, Zzvkgrogk draws his laser pistol and eventually makes it to the clearing. He regards the six Varisians and her six flaming scimitars – and is unimpressed.
”What, is that all it does?” He shrugs. "Varisian Roulette it is." He fires at two of the Varisians.
LaserPistol: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 9 + 2 = 27 Touch
for Damage: 1d6 + 6 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 6 + 2 + 4 = 18 Fire, Rūha, Deadly Aim
LaserPistol: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 9 + 2 = 27 Touch
for Damage: 1d6 + 6 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 6 + 2 + 4 = 18 Fire, Rūha, Deadly Aim
Sorry, no full round here so only one of these attacks counts, but for posteritys sake I am too amused by the mirror image of the attack itself to remove one of them.

Yambul steps closer (5’ step) to keep up, and does what he can to whittle down the Parisian. He doesn’t think she’s going to want to talk - but if she does surrender and drop her weapon, he’ll sheath his. Until then…

Sigh. I bet he crits an image and doesn't even drop one with his backswing.

GM Rutseg |

Rūha arrives to the scene and quickly gives the best possible advice on this situation.
Chaance moves forward while trying to reason with the woman.
Rhoreen says magic words and 4 missiles of pure force go flying and bursting just a few centimeters before the target.
The missiles were blocked by an active shield spell.
1d7 ⇒ 3
Zzvkgrogk appears in the scene, pistol at the ready, and shots through the trunks, destroying one of the images.
Meanwhile, Yambul brutally destroys another of the images, breaking it up to down with his falchion.
1d6 ⇒ 4
"Ha! I am no fool! I know to well, with what you are to talk!" the woman says arcane words and her blade flames become suddenly black.
Concentration DC 17: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
She immediately tries to deliver the spell with her sword.
Scimitar-Spell combat: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 9 - 2 = 18
Magical/Slashing damage+flaming: 1d6 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 2 + (2) = 5
Then swings once more at Yambul.
Scimitar-Spell combat: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 9 - 2 = 8
Magical/Slashing damage+flaming: 1d6 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 2 + (4) = 8
But fails to connect and just steps again back.
Party buffs: advise (+2)
Ilarris: 42 damage, considerably wounded, mirror image (4)
Chaance:
Rhoreen: mage armor
Rūha: 4 damage, mage armor
Yambul: 4 damage
