Makai

Makai looks at the punching bag and then at her allies
"So infiltrate the facility and extract the files. Ok, what do we know about the security of that place?"
| cmlobue |
"So... we should leave our weapons behind?" asks Liftt?
"I hope that you can complete this mission without needing to defend yourselves, but the possibility cannot be ruled out."
"So infiltrate the facility and extract the files. Ok, what do we know about the security of that place?"
Celita provides you with a company directory listing the location of Datch’s private office on the Golden Vault’s ninth floor. She has made sure to use her contacts in AbadarCorp to lower their normally impressive security measures. Celita encourages the PCs to make their own preparations before attempting the mission, and she provides them with basic instructions and maps on how to reach Datch’s office.
| House GM Tyranius |
You are all kept current of real time events as First Seeker Elsebo sends a message. ”Agents sent to a corporate retreat managed to influence high-ranking members of AbadarCorp. These agents survived some unorthodox workshop activities and persuaded an executive to oppose Datch’s vote. The cooperation of these AbadarCorp staff members may be enough to tip the scales in favour of Iseki- Okaibo.”
Table GMs, covert mission four is now closed and action mission four is now available for selection.

The Golden Vault is a short walk from the Lorespire Complex. The gleaming building is a marvel of smooth glass faces interspersed with panels of solid gold. The Golden Vault is AbadarCorp’s headquarters, and as such most of the its upper levels contain offices, boardrooms, and chapels.
A palatial reception area accommodates a constant stream of business professionals. The pyramidal chamber’s walls are transparent aluminum and the floor is gold-veined black marble. Steps mount a raised platform that ends abruptly in a partition of glass and marble with four turnstile entrances. Beyond the partition is an elevator.
he only way to access the elevator to Datch’s office is through one of the turnstiles. A receptionist inside a reinforced booth controls each turnstile. Each of you must make a Bluff, Diplomacy or Disguise check to pass. Roleplaying how you are talking your way through can grant a bonus, as can other techniques you come up with that would assist.
If there are preparations you'd like to make, they can be retconned in, or you can simply step away and do them, then return to make the check.
Krzysztofli
|
<<Well, I know how to log in and how to watch for a workstation someone forgot to log out of.>> Krzysztofli's telepathic voice is amused. <<That being said, I've had much more luck avoiding awkward questions with security at the lab by holding a notepad and saying corporate called about some problem with the equipment. Perhaps we can pick some of those up before we arrive?>>
I'm thinking some sort of clipboard-equivalent.
Arthur Pardus
|
"How about posing as repairmen being called in to fix something in the office? Or maybe cleaning staff? We'll need to find some credentials or hack into the system to schedule some cleaning." Arthur suggests.
Liftt
|
Liftt acquires a blue boiler suit. "How about lift maintenance?" he suggests.
"Warning light on elevator number 1!" he grins. "Cleaning can be delayed, but nobody wants an elevator accident."
(eventual) bluff: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0 Oh, this isn't going well.
Krzysztofli
|
Hah! Didn’t see the GM’s ninja-post until this morning.
<<Good morning.>> Krzysztofli wears a business suit and an obnoxiously-vivid necktie as he enters the turnstile. A clipboard and briefcase are clutched in one hand. <<Yes, it’s my first day. Accounting. Suzi said there was a delay with the ID card vendor and I’d get my badge sometime today. Yes, I could wait, but I don’t want to be late on my first day. I don’t think that’d look good on my record, you know.>> The shirren allows a bit of nervousness to color his telepathic voice.
Bluff: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 4 + 1 = 25
| cmlobue |
The receptionist stares at Liftt. "I just got off elevator 1. There were no warning lights. And if there were, there's no way someone would have had time to call for repair. Next!"
Krzysztofli follows and presents his case for entry. "Seriously, Suzi spends as much time planning her retreats than doing actual work. Just remember to check back in after you get your badge." She waves the shirren through. Wait, wasn't Suzi with accounting, not security? Oh well.
Liftt can try again at one of the other turnstiles. Krzysztofli is in.

Suzi is on slide 11, if you want to see her. Her mission is now locked, so it's technically a spoiler.
Liftt can try again at one of the other turnstiles. Krzysztofli is in.
Makai
|
As they head to the building Makai grows taller, her hair change color to boring brown. She heads to the automated hair salon to get them back slicked and she buys corporate clothing.
With the altered looks she could pass as a short human woman.
Disguise: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (13) + 0 = 13
"Oh, hi. I just left for lunch but forgot my card at the table. Would you by any means let me in? I can't call upstairs as my boss is already pissed up at me."
Liftt
|
Lifft looks shiftily around and heads over two turnstiles. Not being one to want to break character, he tries again.
"Lift one has a warning light on it. I *really* need to take a look at it, or my boss will tie my antennae in a knot." he says with a note of desperation.
bluff: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11
Keskada
|
Keskada will try the surprise drug test ruse. She has a medkit with her and a doctor's coat on.
"Greetings. I'm here to do a surprise drug test/ medical check on some workers upstairs." Keskada says politely.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
| cmlobue |
The receptionist waves Keskada through. "Glad it's me and not them."
At the next turnstile, the receptionist glances up at the elevator banks. "Looks like it's working to me." She waves Liftt away.
Makai tries to get some lunch, but the receptionist replies, "You'll just have to call up and have someone let you in."
Keskada is in. Liftt has one more chance, Makai two.
Liftt
|
Lifft looks around desperately, clanging his tool box.
Spotting a rather busy looking queue, he hurries over and joins that, hoping the person there will be too frazzled to worry about him.
"Excuse me, but I've received a maintenance call, could you let me through please, I'm running late..."
bluff: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (19) - 1 = 18
Arthur Pardus
|
Arthur watches as one by one the others made their attempt.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
The operative does not see any other way to get in except for through the receptionist and decides to just hack his way in. While the receptionist was busy with checking Keskada and Liftt's credentials the corporate agent stealthily shadow's Keskada as the priest is waved through and takes the receptionist's badge as he passes through.
Stealth: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19
Sleight of Hand: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Hopefully I don't get caught on either.
| cmlobue |
Liftt finally finds a receptionist who cares about elevator safety and is able to enter the lobby.
Arthur does a classic turnstile jumper trick and follows so closely behind that the receptionist can't stop him without being *gasp* rude.
The receptionist is in a booth, so you can't steal without breaking a window, though.
Makai has two turnstiles he hasn't tried yet.
Makai
|
Makai would wait for another group of people going back, when she tries to sneak in with.
She begins to chat with someone about snacks don't he 10th floor...
Disguise: 1d20 ⇒ 20
| cmlobue |
Someone who is definitely not Makai slips in with another group that enters the building.
Inside the complex, you can easily make your way to the elevator to the floor with Datch's office. However, you also spot something Celita mentioned earlier - two unmarked steel doors flank a receptionist’s desk, each leading to different security areas. If you can get in without being noticed by any of the four receptionists, you could cover your tracks.
At this point, the party has a choice. You can try to access the security control room or go straight to the elevator to Datch's office. Accessing security adds risk to this part of the mission, but could make things easier later.
Arthur Pardus
|
Meeting up with the others once everyone has gotten in Arthur whispers to the others as they head to the lift. "Let us not waste anymore time and go straight to the office. We'll take care of security if we encounter them."
| cmlobue |
You take the elevator to the floor specified and can easily find Datch's office. The door is not locked, and no one is inside. The office has all the comforts - real wood furniture with gold trim, valuable artworks, and a bowl of fresh fruit. The computer you are looking for is on the desk.
Krzysztofli
|
Krzysztofli shrugs and walks over to the laptop. He gives it a quick look-over before beginning to type.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Computers: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Makai
|
Makai comes to the computer and looks through the shoulder of Krzysztofli.
"Come on Cris! Let me plug in my script to aid in what you are doing...."
Computers to aid: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
The dwarf looks a bit odd in a corporate suit, with her hair of a brown color and all in order. "I am suffocating here, come on, faster."
| cmlobue |
Krzysztofli does not notice the trap, and some malicious code jumps into everyone's devices.
Everyone must attempt a DC 14 Will save.
Whenever a cursed item touches another technological item, the curse may be passed, and another DC 14 Will save is required.
Krzysztofli and Makai discover that the computer has been scrubbed, but they think that with a little more effort, they can recover a backup. Anyone else able to throw in an aid?
Krzysztofli
|
Will vs DC 14: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
I'm also fine to have had Krzysztofli Aiding Makai since she is better at working with computers. We just needed someone to post to keep things moving. XD
Makai
|
Will save, DC14: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Makai is unable to block the virus from coming.
I think those are all.
Which one, 1-armor, 2-gulchgun, 3-engineering kit, 4-hacking kit: 1d4 ⇒ 3
"Damn! " she reaches to her bag and starts looking through her gear.
If there is no one else capable to help, maybe we can try again?
Arthur Pardus
|
Will: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Computers: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Arthur jolts as he feels something pass through his cybernetic system.
1 - personal comm unit, 2 - toolkit(Hacking): 1d2 ⇒ 2how does this affect me since I am an android?
| cmlobue |
The scenario doesn't say it can affect creatures that are technological, so Arthur is safe.
Some of the group's toolkits begin behaving erratically.
While you did not find what you wanted, no other countermeasures seem to have been set off. This time Makai sits at the console, with help from Arthur and Krzysztofli.
To keep things moving, I will roll the next set of checks to get the data.
Computers: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Computers, Aid: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Computers, Aid: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
And that is how aid checks always work. But the total was high enough this time, so...
You are able to locate and decode an encrypted system backup. You discover evidence that Datch has tampered with interdepartmental messaging, most recently deleting all incoming communication regarding a viral epidemic in the Diaspora. While sifting through the files, you also uncover a correspondence with an unnamed recipient. Datch’s message requests the transport of unspecified goods to a vessel docked on Absalom Station, accompanied by an electronic transfer of credits.
| cmlobue |
You are just supposed to recover the files. Acting on them is beyond the scope of this mission.
| House GM Tyranius |
First Seeker Luwazi sounds excited. ”Starfinders infiltrated the Golden Vault and retrieved data from Datch’s office, revealing a vehicle identification number that we believe is involved in smuggling weapons or other goods. Our techs are working to decrypt the files and harvest additional information.”
Table GMs, covert mission five is now closed and action mission five is now available for selection.
| cmlobue |
I am about to post the next step in this mission. Although it is closed, we can still complete it, and the credit will go toward completing something else.
| cmlobue |
You leave the office and head back to the elevators. However, it seems like security has been tipped off to your presence, and a squad is approaching!

Makai reaches for her gulchgun and darts down the corridor trying to surround the enemies.
She focuses on her augmentation and Arthur hears in his mind "I will try and surround them." Makai has Technopathy Node which gives her telepathy with constructs, just showing off since we have billion of shirrens ;)
Liftt
|
Liftt just thinks back to the team.
<<Lets try to avoid them if we can. Remember our briefing...>>
He darts down a side corridor and hides in a doorway for a moment, his antenae twitching nervously.
I should have stayed in reception!
| cmlobue |
Liftt, I moved you back, since it wasn't your turn yet. Your team will be spotted regardless, since they move before the last of you.
Makai ducks into a side corridor.
One of the guards comes out of the hallway and yells, "There they are!" before firing a shot at Liftt.
