C. The dining hall is filthy but otherwise unremarkable.

D. Engineering: A wave of hot air rushes forward as the doors slide open. Inside, alarm lights flash in warning, but the room is eerily silent. Part of the shielding around the ship’s power core has been pried off, and a female brakim is slumped, motionless, on the floor.

Recalling the station roster found earlier, Bubba says, "Duuuuude! That must be Bhennie Melford, engineer! She does NOT look good. Maybe radiation from the power core? Anyone got some radiation shielding? Or ideas why alarms are flashing?"

I'm guessing no one has level 7 armor with its associated radiation protections? If not, Bubba will go in and and try to pull the brakim out of the room while engineering type folks try to figure out what's up with the alarms.

Because of my mismanagement of things due to RL continuously cropping up, leaving me exhausted when I get time to get in front of my computer for more than a few minutes at a time (and immediately passing out in my reclining chair), I'm going to speed this one part along so as not to slow you down any further with a little bit of botting.

Bubba is about to run inside when Damorisovitch puts up a hand to stop the dragonkin from doing so (saving you the reroll), activating his own environmental protections and quickly rushing to the fallen brakim instead.

Carrying her out, Damorisovitch puts her on the deck in the hallway, where Pamatea identifies that she passed out from medium radiation exposure and rapidly mixes something up to treat her condition (anything but a 1 for a success... 1d20 ⇒ 4).

Bhennie Medford regains consciousness and is immensely grateful for your rescue. She tearfully apologizes, telling you that she decided death would be preferable to slavery for her team. She was trying to rig the power core into a bomb that would incinerate the ship, but passed out from the radiation before she could finish. Looking back into engineering, she estimates you have a good 30-40 minutes before the core goes critical, unless you wanted to brave the radiation sooner rather than later.

If you do - Fortitude Save for anyone entering with armor less than level 7, and then an Engineering Check to repair the reactor housing.

Soundtrack 8: Searching the Ship

Regardless of how you handle engineering, Bhennie requests that she be allowed to rest in the cantina where she can rehydrate as you look to rescue the rest of her team.

Moving forward through the ship, you find two sets of bedrooms (E) that look as though jinsuls had slept here, but nothing else.

Forward of that are two functional bathrooms, each equipped with hygiene kits and basic medkits.

The escape pods are functional but can’t be deployed inside the hangar. Each escape pod is supplied with a basic medkit, a basic emergency raft, and 10 R2E meals.

The computer lab looks dirty but is devoid of any living (or dead) creatures.

DC 15 Piloting (Astrogation) Check:
You conclude that the jinsuls are in the process of plotting a course to an uncharted quadrant of space somewhere in the Vast.

The northern two sets of crew quarters (E) are barricaded and locked, but you are able to bust through them / disable them. Sonder and Havar huddle in the northeastern room, and Dr. Renou and Dr. Thrai are confined to the west. All prisoners are severely weakened from their ordeal and cannot fight.

If released, the prisoners are grateful and warn you that the jinsul commanding officer took Dr. Ordez somewhere. They recount the unexpected jinsul attack, Vos Avino’s heroic death, and Bhennie’s attempts to sabotage the ship. Dr. Renou asks about Millie’s whereabouts, hoping that her research subject is still alive. When you mention that she is, the doctor decides to make her way out of the ship and back up to see Millie.

The airlock is functional and leads back to the hangar outside.

Three space suits hang from the wall of the storage room. One of the suits hanging on the wall is a suit of d-suit I armor with jump jets installed.

The gunnery stations are currently unattended. The doors between these rooms and the bridge are locked (DC 17 Engineering or Computers to open each one), but the main door to the bridge is not.

Bubba offers cigars to each of the rescued station crew, easing the immense suffering and pressure they've been under.

Upon mention of Millie, another tear forms under Bubba's eye. "Millie is okay... she was hungry but she's okay. She's a good girl... Here, give her another one of these. She enjoys them." Bubba hands a couple cigars to Dr. Renou.

At the door to the bridge, Bubba will activate his solar weapon and declares, "I'm ready to smoke those jinsul!"

Unfortunately, Bubba isn't going to be of much help with the skill checks.

Ummmmmm.... This is kind of embarassing. I was looking up a different rule when I stumbled across the fact that I was handling Bubba's flight all wrong. "Until a dragonkin is 5th level, he must end his movement on the ground at the end of each turn or fall." Sooooo I believe this Wile E. Coyote-type scene happens....

Bubba realizes he's unable to maintain his position in the air and falls 10 feet, taking 1d6 ⇒ 5 points of falling damage!

I've adjusted Bubba's position on the map to reflect falling down and shifted over so as not to overlap Gruamach.

Bolstered by Pamatea's biohack, Bubba flies in and dodges the readied attacks by the two jinsuls firing their arc emitters! As he makes his attack versus the jinsul commander, Kkevorak uses a reaction to shove his human (half-orc) shield in the path of the attack, and Bubba's strike misses, while the Dragonkin also falls from the air! (5)

Just to double check Bubba's SP/HP status. He was at 12SP, then took 5 points of falling damage, bringing him down to 7SP. Then he took 6 points from the leg blades, which knocks him down to 1SP but no HP damage. GM, let me know if I've got this wrong - thanks!

Bubba: My read was that you took 5 falling damage, 6 from the jinsul commander, then 8 from the crit = 19 damage. I didn't know you were at less-than-full stamina going into the fight hence my calculation that you were at 0sp and down 5hp, but I think you've got it all figured now! :)

Mec-01 fires and connects with his target! (7) Ji-Thil also lands a blast on the biohacked blue jinsul! (5) Gruamach embraces that entropy always increases in a closed system, of which a starship is one, and brutally melts away part of his target! (14)

Bubba stands up, looking to lash out from a certain angle then thinking better of it, timing his strike optimally like a nova flaring in the emptiness of space, to bash the jinsul commander even further! (11) Pamatea follows the melee fighters into the bridge through the mire, dressing some of the dragonkin's wounds!

Dr. Ordez, no longer being physically held by the jinsuls, makes a full withdraw action and flees the bridge!

At first glance, Damorisovitch's swing seems to go wide...but luck is a fickle thing in this universe. Sometimes, Desna decides to flip a nova-enhanced coin* and see if something different was supposed to happen.

* A few years ago, Paizo honored me with a campaign service coin. A neat thing about the coin is that you can use it to give a reroll to someone else other than yourself at the table with the benefit of the coin-holder's GM novas. This seems like a good time :)

Aided by a universe that wants to see Damorisovitch strike down the enemies of the Starfinder Society, a refraction of light from a nova causes the blow to strike true, killing the jinsul commander with a fiery strike!

Soundtrack 9: Final Fight

Enraged and cornered with only certain death before them, the remaining jinsul soldiers open fire once more...the Pink one well within range of Bubba's rather blunt...blunt! Seizing the opportunity, Bubba crushes the jinsul before they can take the shot!

The Blue jinsul, however, is still able to fire!

With Pamatea rushing in to provide medical assistance to Damorisovitch, the rest of you storm the corner of the bridge where the last jinsul holds out, smashing, shooting, burning, and thrashing them until they move no longer. You are now out of combat!

Soundtrack 10: Conclusion

After defeating Kkevorak, you can freely assist the research team as they recover from their ordeal. Dr. Ordez warns you that Kkevorak told her more jinsul ships were on the way to extract his squad; she believes the best course of action is to temporarily abandon the outpost until the threat can be properly ascertained.

Using the outpost’s plentiful resources, you work together alongside them in getting their starship in order and able to depart alongside yours.

After returning to Absalom Station and making your report, you receive your promised complimentary gourmet meal from Venture-Captain Arvin - just a bit sooner than anybody expected. Jadnura thanks you for your thorough reporting, which included items he was most interested in; namely the outpost team’s research concerning the starship fragments.

About a week later, you receive an email message from Arvin:

I hope this finds you well. Thank you again for your efforts to save your fellow Starfinders. I know it wasn’t the mission you originally signed on for, but your heroism never goes unnoticed.

I’m writing to update you concerning the events at Outpost 634. The Society sent three starships to reclaim the outpost after your return, but their efforts were unnecessary in the end. All subsequent investigations indicated that the jinsuls never returned.

Upon examining the communication equipment the jinsuls used to contact their fleet, we discovered they were attempting to call a vessel located in a system in the Vast where the Drift Beacons have suddenly deactivated. Concerning reports from nearby outposts indicate that this ‘dark space’ is expanding, and the Society is currently preparing for an expedition to investigate the extent of this phenomenon.
