Cardren sees and hears the dire circumstances they are in. Part of him, most of him, wants to flee, but he knows getting back home means fighting. In the torches’ purple light he sees Zaranna fighting two enemies. He rushes along the wall and stops right behind a ratman screaming out in rage and fury born of fear.
I thought that by shouting and announcing Cardren’s presence, Zaranna will be be able to flank their opponent. We’ll see if it matters in combat.

Fel watched in horror, as her new comrades were beaten into unconsciousness. When they'd defeated the first rat man, hope had blossomed. Now it died. Fel's group were just kids. Surprise had been their only advantage. As soon as Shadei had noisily tripped, they'd lost that. Now they were doomed.
Fel's limited courage gave out. She didn't charge, like the others had. What would be the point? She'd just get captured, along with everyone else. Instead, she hid. The gnome scrambled for cover, and prayed that she'd remain unnoticed. The rats clearly wanted their captives alive. They wouldn't kill anyone. If Fel could evade capture, she might find an opportunity to free them.
At least, that's what she told herself. Maybe she was just trying to justify her own cowardice.

I will control her actions however, your bond isn't strong enough yet for you both to act.
The ball of light moved toward the ratman holding Samantha. A beam of light shot from it towards the being.

If even one child escaped from here, or... more realistically, even if she died trying to save one... it was still the right thing to do.

Elyana was scared, she could hear the fighting dying down and from the sounds of it they wer losing badly. This meant that the only way she could help was if she waited for the ratment to bring the unconscious children back to the room to return them to their cells. She came to the simple decision that she would need to wait and ambush them as they did. That in mind she stayed right where she was and waited for the ratmen.
Can't think of anything more to do than this now. The situation is just too bad right now.

I forgot about Hero Points too. Thanks for your offer to spend one point and not all to end the Dying condition. In general PC death doesn’t bother me. Sometimes the dice don’t roll the way you want. But I would like to see him survive his first fight.

Elyana didn't think she could afford to hang back any longer, not if they wanted to avoid recapture. Deciding that it was time she quickly advanced towards the nearest of the ratmen and lashed out with her fist when she reached him.

I wasn’t clear enough in my last post. Cardren uses one Hero Point to end the Dying condition and stabilize with 0 HP.
I can’t -- die here, Cardren muses in a jumbled darkness and slowing thought. I have to -- get to Mom and -- learn, ask, if she was -- taken too...she has that mark... He focuses on his mother’s love, using that as an anchor against the pull of death’s current.
