Didymus the Great |
"Thanks, Ponty! You're the best!"
"Good idea, BumBum. It seems like these folks could use a good meal. We'll ask at the store if there's a butcher in town who'd want to boar meat."
Didymus walks into The Crooked Beam and frowns when he sees the counter exceeds his stature. He whistles for Ambrosius who scurries over and crouches down in front of the counter. Didymus steps up on his companions back, carefully gauging the weight he puts on him, and then with his head just over counter height, he smiles up at the owner.
"Good day to you, sir. My friends and I have some fine goods to barter for supplies." he says as he empties out the cold iron pick, hide armor, cloak and bearskin hat from his backpack onto the counter.
Didymus the Great |
Assuming we don't have to roll for anything and can just presume the weapons and armor sell for half, and the cloak and hat sell for full, here is the accounting for our first loot sale and party cash distribution:
22.0gp_low grade cold iron pick
13.3gp_coins from cockatrice lair
00.1gp_druid's sickle after rune is removed
01.0gp_druid's hide armor
07.0gp_Myron's bearskin hat
05.0gp_Myron's cloak
------
48.4gp
/6 for 8gp to each PC plus 8.4gp retained for party expenses
I am spending 3.5gp of mine to cover the cost of the rune transfer to my bow, and then I would like to buy a lesser bottled lightning for 3gp plus I should replenish my arrows for 1sp.
GM_MG |
You are able to sell everything listed without. However, a low-grade cold iron pick appears to cost 20.7 gold, and you would only get half price for that. I think you're costing it as a greatpick, which it is not.
Kvothe Incruentus |
Strumming his lute as they walk through town, Kvothe posts up on the door outside the general store. Just to keep an eye out on the street, there's nothing he really needs inside right now.
just going to continue to watch and listen, detecting magic while he waits
Train rolls in at ten am
Kill the lamb for the lions,
find some water for the elephants
GM_MG |
Keep in mind, Kvothe, that casting detect magic takes somatic and verbal components, so it will be obvious that you are casting magic.
BumBum the Clown |
"Didy, gets me a Antidote (3gp) and a Frost Vial (3gp) and some arrows for me whiles you're in there. I'm going to sees what I can learn in this town."
BumBum would then like to try a Diplomacy to Gather Info, particularly regarding the Mad Mug thugs, the mill, the orchard, and/or the Sheriff's disappearance. diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 "Wow, these folks really don't wants to talk to me! Maybe I asks too many questions."
Kvothe Incruentus |
sorry, I thought this was like the "exploring" phase of travel, forgot to add a roll for gather info to see if I can get any more information on our rumors

Noatuk |
"BumBum, I don't ssssssee ssssso well in the dark. I'll hold on to the everburning torch." Noatuk nods at the goblin appreciatively.
After following the others into town, Noatuk smiles and nods at the townsfolk, being used to suspicion. He wears his wooden Holy symbol (Osiris) open for any and all to see.
"Diddy, could you pick up a couple of minor healing potionssss for me? I'll keep a look out. Thanksss.
With a nod to his friends, Noatuk stays out on the street, watching for potential trouble and trying to keep an eye on BumBum and Kvothe as they attempt to gather information.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
GM_MG |
The town is quiet, but sounds of work can be heard up and down Artisan's row. A group of laborers are putting up a building several streets away, and the sound of hammers carries.
The few passers by don't have much information to share with Kvothe, and seem nervous to even speak of such matters.
You could potentially smoke the wasps to sleep, if you could find their nest.
Didymus the Great |
Didy buys the requested items for the party and makes sure to shake the shopkeeps hand and thank him, just like the Professor taught him.
buying 2 minor healing potions for Noatuk (8gp), 2 smokesticks for the party (6gp), and an antidote, a frost vial and 10 arrows for BumBum (6.1gp).
"Ok, all set! I say we go check out the Mad Mug Roadhouse to see what we can learn about the place and those Mugger guys next." Didy suggests to his friends as he passes out their items and exact change outside of the shop.
Lady Alhambra |
Al will try her hand at coaxing out details about the Muggers from the townsfolk.
Gather Info: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Kvothe Incruentus |
if we don't get much info about what's going on here, we should check out the orchard and the boar issue. Maybe there's another druid that has the native animals riled up
Going to continue to strum my lute as we pass through town
GM_MG |
No one in town is sure where the gang sleeps--it seems that some have homes in the town, while others live outside it. They may sometimes sleep at the Mad Mug itself.
Noatuk |
"I sssstill think the most immediate threat to thessssse poor townssssfolk issss the Muggerssss. There issss a ssssmall chance we find them assssleep together, and there issss little honor in asssssaulting a ssssleeping foe. We ought to find them now."
Didymus the Great |
"But it would be really funny if we do it BumBum's way! Plus if we use the wasps, it might just drive them off. If we confront them, we'll probably end up killing them. Is it really more honorable to execute people for hooliganism than to play a prank on them?" he gives Noatuk the biggest, saddest puppy dog eyes to really sell it.
Noatuk |
"The humor of the matter issss not the issssue. A gang, formed by bad people for the purpossssse of doing harm to otherssss issss the greater evil. Ssssome boarssss, who attacked sssssomebody one time and the perssssson wasssssn't hurt could jussssst be an animal acting completely natrual. GM_MG |
The Orchard is easy enough to find. A sign, nearly buried in undergrowth, identifies it as Oldlin's Orchard, but it doesn't look like anyone is taking care of the place now.
Still, the apple trees here are healthy, and its likely that many a townsperson steals into the orchard in late summer to grab a basket of the russety-golden apples the trees produce.
Please declare exploration mode activities and anything you'd like to be doing as you arrive at the orchard.
Didymus the Great |
I will have my bow out and try to see if I can find a trail to track and designate a new prey if possible. (survival)
Kvothe Incruentus |
Clapping Noatuk on his shoulder, all in good time friend, all in good time
Moving with the group, Kvothe will be detecting magic as they explore and follow Diddy. Quietly holding his lute so it doesn't give their presence away.

Botting Noatuk, who is Searching.
Near the center of the orchard is an old irrigation trench. A fallen tree neatly bridges the gap. Not more than a thin trickle of water runs through the channel, but the sides are still muddy from recent rains.
As the group approaches, a large boar climbs up the sides, snorting angrily. Three juvenile boars climb up alongside her.

Earlier, before departing for the orchard.
Noatuk responds to Kvothe. "Thank you for sssshowing concern my friend."
BumBum the Clown |
BumBum will Stride to a tree and attempt to climb it with Combat Climber and his tail Athletics: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22 That ought to get me 5 feet up, unless it crits the DC set by our GM, then it will be 10 feet. With his 3rd action he will fire his bow at the flat footed Mama Boars bow: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16 P: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 4) = 10 for maybe a hit.

Lady Alhambra |
Al will summon a Flash Beetle to distract the angry boars.
The beetle will scurry forward and do an elaborate fan dance.
Light Flash Single Action (concentrate, light) The flash beetle creates a brilliant flash of light. All creatures in its luminescent aura (10 ft) must succeed at a DC 17 Fortitude save or be dazzled for 1 minute. Noatuk |
Noatuk takes in the scene in front of him and frowns. "Thissss isssss only natural change. The people have abandoned thissss orchard and nature hasssss come back to reclaim it. I will not take part in thissss. There are more pressssing concernssss."
All three actions to move back the way he came from.
Didymus the Great |
Didy coughs up a bit of blood as he staggers back from the charging boar. "Umm, this is not how normal animals behave. Someone or something has made them aggressive. We can certainly try to spare their lives, but I don't think we can outrun these beasts. Besides BumBum had the great idea of bringing boar meat back to town for a feast!"
I will make sure to delay til after Kvothe in case he's got more of that juicy inspiration on tap. Then I will mark green as my prey and command Ambrosius to nonlethally attack with his bite then his talons. As Didy readies the boar, Kvothe and BumBum spot something in the trench.
Mostly buried in the muck they find the skeletal remains of a gnome, whose bones show the markings of porcine teeth. The clothing is tattered and destroyed, but a scroll case nearby holds a magical scroll, and a lesser antidote is miraculously untrampled.
