Remembering the barghast they fought in the cave, Kvothe casts a spell and it appears to rush into the room from the hallway.

Aqueous Orb has to be created in an unoccupied square, so you wouldn't be able to catch them and move them away. You could create it behind them then move it to pick them up this round.

Illusory creature creates the creature, but to give it actions you need to sustain the spell. You could create it in the room, or create it in the hall and then sustain to move it into the room, but you wouldn't be able to inspire.

isn't inspire 1 action and casting the spell 2 for a total of 3? If I just cast it in the hallway I will sustain it next round and then get it to enter the room then

Correct, the spell takes 2 actions to cast. But if you read the description, the image only gets actions in combat if you sustain it, which takes 1 action.

1d20 ⇒ 18 Success
1d20 ⇒ 4 Fail

The xulgath manages to avoid becoming engulfed, but the little demon is dragged away.

Carl steps forward and attempts to trip the xulgath, but is unsuccessful.

The demon attempts to swim free.

But he fails!

The xulgath in the back casts a spell, sending another round of missiles flying at Carl.

It probably won't matter, but would the enfeebled have saved Ambro from another 2 points of damage from the wall slam attack that would have come after Carl's reaction?

The ranger takes advantage of his clear line of fire and looses a pair of arrows at his quarry. The dinosaur expresses his displeasure with the hand around his throat by chomping down on his assailant's arm and simultaneously lifting his legs to rake at the xulgath's belly, trying to propel himself away.

Nope, if you check the damage its just straight 4d6, there's no strength aspect to it.

Well, not necessarily, you just can't cast it and make it move if you don't want to sustain the spell this round. There's nothing stopping you from casting the spell and then also casting inspire, the illusion would just stay where you summoned it.

Didy isn't able to figure out anything about this spellcaster.

An arrow and two strikes from Ambro aren't enough to bring down the big Xulgath.

Blue steps into flank on Carl and swings his maul.

Attack: 1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 10 - 2 = 13

Red takes a swing at Carl.

I'll bank on him being close enough to dead that I'll go ahead and move my prey to the caster. By the way, don't forget I have dubious knowledge so I should always learn something, just sometimes it is false knowledge.

With child-like glee, Al controls the roiling orb of water, menacing the caster hiding in the back. Once her foes were good and wet she invokes an arc of electricity through them.

First action is to sustain the orb and move it back 5 ft, hopefully scooping up green, and then moving it down to keep them away from Carl. Then I will cast Electric Arc, targeting Red (to hopefully finish him off) and Green. I don't suppose that the water would conduct the electricity for any extra effect?

Carl raises his shield as his feet sink slightly into the floor. Dust from the area starts to fill in the cracks in his body. Then he lashes out again with his trident. That mage is getting annoying!

Going to use my reaction on the first hit. Either Shield Block (Hardness 10) on myself, or Glimpse of Redemption on an ally(-7 hp damage & Enfeebled (or Stupefied) 2). Out of focus points.

The bolt of energy lashes both xulgath, although neither falls.

I'm not sure which of the two xulgath you want to trip, Carl, but you can't get both as they are more than 5 feet apart. I'll assume red. Also don't know what the healing for your Lay on Hands is supposed to be.

Kvothe, where is your illusory creature? How is it getting into the room?

I'll hold here pending resolution on the illusory creature.

I thought one was on each side of me. That would make them 5' apart. If not, I thought they would have said adjacent to each other like they do for cleave. But red works if I can only get one. I heal for 18 hp.

Nope, unfortunately, the wording is within your reach and no more than 5 feet apart, and they are 10 feet apart.

Didy laughs uproariously at the lizardfolk being tossed around by Al's spell. Eventually he regains his composure and gives a quick command to Ambro, <Stop playing with your food and finish off that lizard!>

For 1st 10 min, I will Treat Wounds (DC 20) on Ambro, while I presume Carl and Kvothe refresh. Did you guys want to cast your heals after that and refresh again? Or should I just keep going with Medicine?

Sorry about the orb. I probably won't get that lucky with it again. It was kind of the perfect storm with them in the small room where they couldn't get far enough away to escape it.
Al will detect magic and search for any hidden treasure or clues. Is taking a 20 an option in 2e?

If I refocused while you medicine Ambro, I can heal myself for 18. That leaves me down 5 while Ambro is down 7. I can go in down 5, if you want to get Ambro back to full. That would take 20 minutes for us.

Cool. Kvothe can top Ambro off with Hymn of Healing then refocus a second time like you. Which means we have to spend 20 min either way, so I just need to roll more than 5 on 2d8 to top you off. Jinx in 3, 2, 1.

The bookish xulgath carries a runed light mace, while the other two xulgaths carry mauls. A polished black staff, leans against the wall, a little bit larger than a standard walking cane. It has a silver elephant head at the top.

Al is able to identify the mace as a +1 light mace, and the staff as a ringmaster's staff.

The little demon coughs suddenly, water pouring from its mouth. Gasping for air, he shouts. "Givzib surrenders, Givzib surrenders!"

Didy's ears shoot up as he hears the squeaky voice of the small demon.

"This one's still kicking!"

He quickly sets about binding the Imp securely with rope.

"Alright you little monster. What have you got to say for yourself? Don't think you're gonna pull a fast one on us. I've got my nose on you!" he says as he points two fingers at his nostrils then points them at the demon.

Didy's eyes go wide and he quickly turns away from the demon. He pulls out the pickles and returns them to his pocket with a thumbs up to Carl. He then turns back to the demon with the meanest scowl he can muster.

Taking the time to refocus after the battle, Kvothe casts healing hymn to top off anyone that needs it and refocuses again. He then takes the time to record their activities in his book for future lyrics. When the Demon awakens he assists Didy in the interrogation

"You poor thing! How dreadful!" he says with a reassuring lick on the demon's face, followed by wrapping him up in his bedroll to dry him off and warm him up. "We will of course do what we can to help you. Can you tell us more about this Kalagash person? Or anything about what you've seen since they put you to work. We have heard that there is a strange cult lurking down here that has been up to no good. We would be happy to be able to put a stop to it and make sure that no more demons like yourself are forced to do anything else here in this world."

if Didy is suspicious:

The ranger gives the others, Al in particular, a subtle look and shake of his head, then says, "Hmm, how do we know that you're not up to any tricks?"

Givzib screws up his face in concentration.

"Kalagash is one of the demon-callers here. There are four of them. There used to be more, and more stinky xulgath besides, but a bunch of them left when Sarvel did.

"They just kind of hang around down here. Sometimes people from the surface come down, and bring others, and they sacrifice them to call more demons. The cat lady brings gifts, too, she gave Zunkri that stick" he gestures towards the staff that Al found.

"Tell us more about Sarvel. It sounds like he--or she? or they?" he pauses for clarification before continuing, "may have been the leader. Do you know where Sarvel and the others went? or how long ago they left?"

"I am guessing that was Zunkri?" he asks with a gesture towards the bookish xulgath.

"Can you tell us more about the cat lady? She wouldn't happen to look like [insert Didy's best description of Madam Dusklight]"

While speaking with the imp he sits down and breaks out his packed lunch for the day, and shares it equally with the cooperative demon.

"It sounds like this Kalagash is still down here. What can you share with us to help us defeat your imprisoner (and any more minions accompanying them) and set you free?"

"Last but not least, how's your comedic timing? We used to have a friend of ours in our circus act called The Flying Imp. He's been under the weather lately, so we could use a new performer!"

He nods and points. "Zunkri"

He shrugs. "Yeah, that sounds like her I guess. I don't know her name though."

The imp tears into the food offered eagerly.

"OK! I don't know where Kalagash is, but he's probably somewhere around here. THere's this floor, plus that area," he says, pointing to the staircase leading up, "and some place beneath, but they don't let me go down there."

He scrunches his face in outrage. "Not Imp! Quasit!" He thumps his chest with an open hand. "...what's a comezic timbing?"

So they don't let you go downstairs but no one would question you wandering around on this level or upstairs, right? How would you feel about scouting ahead for us? If we can know what we are up against and catch them by surprise, it'll make freeing you a lot easier."

As he notices the quasit's hunger, he stops eating his lunch and lets his new friend finish the rest on his own.

Once we have as much info as we can, including a scouting report if possible, I think that we should finish exploring this level before we move on upstairs.
