Val charges round to attack the woman, his sword blade aimed for a deadly strike, but at the last second she manages to twist causing the blow to slide off her armour.

Bwess moves forward, but stumbles and has to right herself.

Elo continues to heal himself, and then redies a bomb and moves forward.

Vilree looks at you with contempt. "It doesn’t matter, you know. I’ve already won. I dispatched my minion to destroy the town just before you arrived here. Everyone in Plaguestone will be dead long before you ever get there!"

Even as she speaks she drops the crossbow, and pulls a dagger, then swipes at Val, and steps back.

GM:
1d20 + 14 ⇒ (18) + 14 = 32 2d4 + 1 ⇒ (3, 1) + 1 = 5

Her knife finds a chink in Vals armour and draws a gush of blood. (10HP damage)

Is a Sense Motive (Perception) check a free action?

"We didn't see your minion," Bwessara says while lightly stepping towards their opponent. She cracks her whips, chanting arcane words to bring forth electricity. The leather lash buzzes and crackles with electricity when Bwessara sends it towards Vilree.

Round 5
1 action: Step to F23
2 action: Spellstrike with Shocking Grasp

Spellstrike: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
electricity damage: 2d12 ⇒ (5, 7) = 12
whip non-lethal damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Shocking Grasp doubles the initial damage on a critical hit.

Qrik raises his shield and chucks another ball of fire.

One action to raise my shield and two to cast Produce Flame and chuck it rather poorly at her.

Produce Flame Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18

Produce Flame Damage: 2d4 + 4 ⇒ (4, 1) + 4 = 9

Qrik's flamemisses the Elf as she laughs right at him. At the same time, Val steps up and attempts to strike at the woman. Also missing, he raises his shield.

Bwes has more luck, her spell infused strike hitting the woman accross the face. HWer cheek raises in a bright red welt, and her eye twitches from the after effects of the electricity. At Bwess' words, the woman ghlances up. "You wouldn't. It left while you were taking your time wandering down here. Those Orcs weren't the most intelegent of creatures, but they did well enough to delay you."

Even while Vilree is speaing, Elo's bomb finds it's mark. She shreeks in pain, and it's clear she isn't going to last in this fight much longer.

GM:

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24 2d4 + 1 ⇒ (4, 1) + 1 = 6

Backed into a corner, Vilree does all she can think of and stabs out with her dagger. The blow slices into Val, and after all of the hits he's taken today, his eyes open wide for a moment, and he falls to the ground. (Take 6HP damage. Puts you on Dying 1)

She then moves up to Bwes and stabs her too for good measure.(Take 6HP damage.)

Qrik focuses all of his energy and three magical darts spring out at the woman.

Magic Missile with all 3 actions.

With one last blast of energy. Qrik blasts the woman with magical force. It's more than her frame can take. But with a grin of trumph she falls to the ground, dead.

Well done! That was a capstone battle that was more than a little tough, and hampered by some truely appalling dice luck!

That was really good thinking Qrik! Elo, one of us should do a Stabilize Medicine check on Val while the other Aids. We have the same Medicine bonus.

"Val!" Bwessara calls to the fallen cleric. She kneels at his side. "Elo, we can work together to save him." She loosens the man's armor so they can better treat his wounds. "And that was well done Qrik! I should learn that spell from you."

Val's gone down a few times now... sadly his AC is insufficient for the role I keep putting him in. I'll plate up at the next opportunity but the math does not favour him... nor does fortune favour his dice rolls

Qrik will search the monster and woman while the others work on Val.

Elo quickly moves to val and retrieves his healing kit. The final wound was, fortunetly, not all that bad, so patching him up takes but a moment. He's unconscious, and out of danger.

Qirk looks through the monster's things, of which it has none. It's not even wearing clothes.... Vilree on the other hand has some more interesting things about her.

As well as the fancy crossbow, her belt puch holds a suprising amoutn of cash (2pp, 38gp, 4sp). She has a fancy looking dagger, probably magical, andsome matching bracers along with an assortment of potions you could identify later. She also has a key.

I should probably point ut too, that as well as the XP for the fight, you gained a story award of 80XP, which is what tipped you over into level 4.

Bracers huh. Was she wearing any armor?

Qrik holds up the bracers and says, "These could be good. We should try and figure out what her equipment does soon."

I thought I linked the alchemical crossbow further up, but Elo (and Qrik) would easily be able to identify it as that.

Her armour is just basic leather.

What do you do next? If she is to be believed, despite her death the twon is still in danger...

I had a vague sense this was the case but I couldn't immediately find that identification in an old post... probably just missed it.

Elo holds up the alchemical crossbow. I think I might have some uses for this...

I believed her. I think time is of the essence and there maybe be damage done back in town already. We should skedaddle.

Bwessara shifts her legs and sits beside Val and watches Qrik examine their opponent's possessions. "Maybe getting us to leave quickly serves some purpose for her." She thinks quietly for a moment then stands up and adjusts her shield. "But you're right Elo, we should depart now. If we need to come back in the future, we can."

Yes let's get back to the town.

After a breif rest to recver yourselves, you make your way back up through the complex to ground level.

As you reach the foyer area you have a choice, exit through the large main doors, or continue up and through the small tower to exit the way you came in.

Following the Expert, namely Bwessara.

There is still a grim possibility that the town of Etran’s Folly is now a town filled with the dead and dying. Miles pass, minutes turn to hours, and finally the unsuspecting village grows ever closer. There is no sign of Vilree’s minion, but that only adds to a growing sense of dread.

Etran’s Folly comes into view at the crest of a hill. An alchemical drudge is now approaching its final destination—the plaguestone—where it will carry out its final gruesome command from Vilree!

GM:

Elo scurries forward and launches a stone at the drudges back. It hits dead center, knocking a bit of metal loose.

Bwes runs forward, pulling her whip and manages to trip the creature. It lands face first on the floor.

Val moves forward to strike at the creature, and thanks to it being flat on the ground, succeeds!

Scorching Ray has a range of 60ft, so to keep things moving I'll assume Qrik uses 3 actions to get off 3 rays at the creature.

Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22 Damage: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 5, 5) = 14
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 Damage: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 6, 6) = 19
Attack: 1d20 ⇒ 3 Damage: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 2, 5, 1) = 13

The first ray burns into the creature, and though the other two rays go wide, once the steam and hiss of metal from the spell subsides you can see that the thing is no longer moving...

Well, that was a touch anti-climatic for a final battle!
