If we all want to focus fire one, then just teleport us over to yellow. I honestly don't care, but that dimension door thing is incredibly valuable to get the group (or a chunk of us) around to these platforms.

Having communed with the Slumbering God through the machine, Hef realizes that the jinsul's continued operation of the machine is what is keeping the vivid dream monster confused and relatively docile; if the creature were not contained and Kadrical did nothing to contain it, the nightmarish creature would like attack.

Hef also knows that overcoming all of the creatures in the pit would helps cut the jinsuls off from Kadrical’s power, weakening their highest-level leadership.
Providing a benefit to the higher-tier tables who are fighting a much, MUCH tougher foe!

To move things along, I will take Azara's attack roll as an attack against the blue jinsul.

With the creature unconscious, Azara slices into the jinsul with his cestus.

Held in check by the devices, the nightmarish monster below continues to babble incoherently.

Botting Kai, unless someone else has a better idea for what he should do:

Kai pushes the blue jinsul over the edge of the platform, then follows the two soldiers. Assuming a move action to push, then a move action to move.

Active conditions: Life Bubble?, Bodyguard & In Harm’s Way | Male NG Kasatha Star Shaman Mystic of Kadrical 6 | EAC 20; KAC 21 (starlight?) | F/R/W +4/+4/+11 (+1 or 2 vs. Fear, 5 electricity resistance, +2 vs. Radiation, +4 Toughness) | Init: +2 | Perc: +16, SM: +14 | SP 54 (-0) HP 40 (-0) | RP 9/9 | Speed 30ft, Fly 20 (space only) | Spells 1: 6/6, Spells 2: 4/4, Stargazer 2/2

I think the blue jinsul is pretty much toast. Why don't we use Kai's dimension door to teleport Hef and Azara and Kai over to Yellow's platform and Kai can much quicker attempt to try to use that device as the rest focus down yellow? That is what Hef votes for Kai to use their actions to do.

But if the group doesn't want to use up one of the 8 remaining dimension door abilities (unless I misread something about how many we have) then Hef will just double move across the bridge instead of taking any sort of combat action this round.

Can we tell if the blue jinsul is still alive?

My understanding is that to take out the dream monster we have to interact with it through the stations. Two more successes should dispel it completely, but we can only use each station once. Once it's gone, though, we can take out the rest of the jinsul if we have time.

air elemental 3 slam: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 dmg: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

As I understand it, we're trying to weaken or destroy the dream monster. It's made from divine power stolen from Kadrical, the Slumbering God. If we can convince Kadrical that we're reasonable sophonts, the god will take back its power. There are a couple of potential problems with this, though: if we screw it up, the monster will attack us. Also, we only get one attempt to commune with the god per control station, and each station has a pretty tough jinsul technomancer already using it to steal power from Kadrical. We took down the first jinsul and Kai was able to commune with Kadrical using the middle control station. So the dream monster is already down 1/3 of its starting HP. For every success at a Culture or Diplomacy check while communing, it'll lose another third.

The applicable skill check for communing varies with the attempt, as evidenced below.

{{Where are my heralds?}} demands the voice of the Slumbering God.

To successfully commune with Kadrical, requires a successful skill check. To respond, you may attempt to evade the question with a Bluff check, or you may answer truthfully with relevant detail with a Mysticism check. NOTE The nature and content of the response and roleplaying bonuses can affect the result.

Patterson LXII wrote:

Due to the Routed Infantry effect (thank your fellow Starfinders at the other tables), every successful hit against the jinsul has a 25% chance to become a critical hit. Unfortunately, I haven't been applying this effect properly, but will do so from this round going forward (Feel free to include this check with your attack roll along with any noting any critical effect of your weapon).

Burden of Envy: Table 1 | Table 2 | Guardian's Covenant (Table 2)

The jinsul (red) assaulted by elementals, steps out from its attackers, draws a pistol, and tries to remove one of the airy annoyances.
Ranged (frostbite-class zero pistol) v elemental EAC, shaken: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 9 - 2 = 15
Damage (C): 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

It freezes one of the summoned forms in its tracks.

Two other jinsul sergeants (green & purple) work to maintain the draining power of their devices.

The fallen jinsul on the platform (yellow) shows faint signs of life.

GM V, can we use the Prayer and Reflection preparation reward? If so, Hef, it's a +4 to your Mysticism check.

You can. However, Hef has acted this round and could not benefit from it until next round.

Azara is still not able to break free of the haze that fills his blood and mind.

The only ones that really sting are the two back to back rounds where I got 16s. Being one away 1 time is annoying enough. Twice is just the dice gods laughing at me.

Of course, I don't know if any of it is as bad as my burly vesk who failed his will save in the first round of another adventure and has been running for the last 5 rounds.

GM V, I thought Azara only had one round of confusion left last round--at least, you put "Confused for 1 rds" on both the 5th and 6th rounds.

The effect lasts 5 rounds and was not inflicted during the initial round of combat. I apologize for any confusion that I've caused (both to players and the PC). Lots of moving parts to track in this encounter.

Azara has a moment of clarity, which feels like it's going to extend to a much longer time of clarity. He blinks and looks around, trying to figure out what's going on, where he is, what's happening.

He's not sure, but he can see that his companions have done an impressive job in taking down the jinsuls. Only a few are left, but all too far for him.

Or...too far if he didn't have a little semi-divine assistance.

He taps into the energy that has been given to him and teleports to the platform with the purple jinsul.
