"Maybe we can extract information out of him. In riling (Riley-ing?) up zis attack, he has already proven himself an enemy of ze state. A sliver of redemption could come from divulging what he knows." The Doctor looks over to Brogol and the rest "Any skill at binding and gagging among you? Eris spins and twirls her way toward Franz and Riley, holding her bloody sickle casually as if there hadn't been a battle and execution.

"La la la," she sings.

When Franz mentions binding the bard, she says "I spent the better part of a year tied up and gagged, so I'm pretty familiar with how it works," she says, pulling a length of rope from her backpack.

"Hee hee. Let's see if he likes to be tied up as much as I do," she says, cutting a few feet of rope and tying his hands behind his back.\

Turning the unconscious man over, she says "Now--I thought we already gave you a chance, and here you are totally un-redeeming yourself!"

Belial's Maps; Dispater's Maps

The doctor believes it was an illusion of Disguise Self, a spell readily available to most bards.

Cimri watched Eris "dance" her way from the site of the execution, one hand instinctively returning to the hilt of her kukri.

"I spent the better part of a year tied up and gagged, so I'm pretty familiar with how it works."

"Huh, amazing anyone would want to keep you quiet and out of the way..." she observed drolly. Then she sighed and leaned in to help. "He's proved a coward and a liar, but tricky and foolish. Let me help tighten those..."

Cimri will Aid Another on the binding, increasing the DC on any escape artist check by 2.

"Into the jail, or should we toss 'im on the back of the horse and take 'im someplace else?"

The deed done, Brogol turns to the remaining crowd, stuffing his sap back in his pocket. "Justice has been done, despite the best efforts of these foolish men. Go home, spend the day with your families." Brogol nudges the corpse of Caggin with his toe. "This one will threaten them no more."

Dropping back down from the stage, Brogol makes his way towards the unconscious bard flashing Cimri a brief smile at her joke. "Let's get this idiot to the jail. Do they have manacles there? He's a spellcaster, so we'll need to lock him down tight."

Eris, you making the escape artist check? Note to self: put rank(s) in EA at level up. This guy's probably not the last person we bind.

@Brogol: Escape DC for bindings is actually set based on the binder's CMB, so that's what you want to focus on if you want to be good at keeping people tied up.

"Jail seems appropriate. We strip him of his instruments and gag him and he should find casting spells difficult enough." The Doctor nods. "Once we have him secure, I would be very interested in asking a few... pressing questions."

Unless there's something else we want to tackle here, I'd be happy to continue on to the jail to get to questioning him.

The remnants of the crowd-turned-mob-turned-observers mostly disperse after Brogol advises them to head home. Their expressions are mostly shocked with the most steadfast resisters having been quite thoroughly put down.

Riley's unconscious form is bound and carted off to the jail. As you arrive, the guards who remained on watch appear particularly alert and on edge. It doesn't take long to figure out why, as a familiar, rasping laugh emanates from the direction of the old sheriff's desk. "Seal that door behind you, won't you dearies?"

The voice is clearly that of Razelago's, though he would seem to be invisible as there is nothing to be seen.

As they enter the room and hear the familiar voice, Eris perks up.

Brogol follows the others into the sheriff's office, nodding thanks to Ingrid as she shuts the door behind them. "Nice to uh, hear you, Razelago. I'm also curious as to why you've made the trek from the Ash House."

Razelago flickered into view as he crawled his way out of the sheriff's chair and onto the top of the desk, his oversized insectoid-wings idly flicking behind him. A lecherous grin with a flick of its tongue was cast towards Eris, then he turned to Franz. "Ah, doctor, you know me well indeed, don't you?" There was a trilling buzz to his voice, almost a laugh, before he continued, "But perhaps I don't want every random clod wandering in off the street see me meeting with you? And maybe you don't either, hmm?"

The diminutive devil stretched its limbs, then settled back on the desk and continued, "I just wanted to say the archbaron is quite pleased with your work today. It was messy, but... suitable. As such, Fex wishes to reward you. I expect things will be heating up soon, and you'll likely need his generosity."

"I see." The archbaron's appreciation was a fine thing. Dangerous in some ways, but what wasn't in Cheliax? "I would be pleased to accept what funding he might provide."

Brogol's brow inches up, a bit surprised. The day had been too messy for the driver's taste. But, tastes were different, and in this case, that was a good thing. "I'm pleased that the Archbaron is pleased. I'd like a guard presence at my ma's house. No other reward necessary."

Pausing, Brogol adds onto his thought. "For me I mean. The rest of us, they've certainly earned something special."

Eris elbows Brogol in the ribs when he mentions foregoing the reward.

"Oh, please. We know you want the reward as much as the rest of us. Just start admitting it because it makes the rest of us look even more greedy than we obviously are! Hee hee!"

Turning back to Razelago, she holds out both hands. "Load me up, Beautiful One!"

"Aye. Rewards are good. It's what separates Asmodeus from the hypocritical Gods that claim to be 'good.' He rewards his followers and is open and upfront about it. Ye do the work, ye get the coin." Ingrid said. "But let's nay second guess his requests. The value of his reward is his own to judge."

Razelago half-purrs, half-hisses as Brogol and Eris's exchange, then says, "Coin it shall be for you, then... hire your own guards."

The devil then begins to pull various items from a small bag behind him. While the size of the bag suggests a limited volume, the amount of gear he pulls out of it suggests the bag has a magical nature to it.

Ya get your new stuff per Discussion thread.

"Now then..." Razelago sits back on the desk, wiping his chubby hands as if they had been dirtied by the common task of delivering things. "You've earned a rest, but you should also know the Castle Gate at the edge of town is open. I spent most of my time observing you and today's events in the square, and now I have to return to the archbaron, but you may wish to investigate."

It looks like he is about to teleport away, then his gaze rests on Riley and he pauses. "Hmm. What's your plan with him? Skinning? Quartering? Or worse... talking him to death?" He cackles at his own joke.

Ingrid didn't look at Razelago as she answered, given how enamored she was with the rewards that they had received. The ring alone would have sufficed, but the armor as well? It was enough to keep her eyes glued. "That really depends on how much he cooperates. If ye find him a drained husk, then it'll be on his head."

The Doctor sniffs "Riley has proven unstable, violent, and most importantly unwilling to learn a simple lesson. Ve vill talk to him, but beyond zat, hmm." Ingrid's suggestion sounds more than plausible, and a fitting punishment for an upstart of his caliber.

Razelago pulls a fine chain shirt from his pack, the armor's links polished and gleaming in the light of the sheriff's office, and lays it on the table. Next to it, he places a small, simple wooden chest. Brogol flips the chest open to find a simple bill of lading sitting atop rows of platinum coins, laid on their sides neatly as if poker chips.

Brogol picks up the bill of lading and reads it over slowly, his mouth moving as he scans the words. With a grunt, he folds the bill and lifting his drover's hat, places it inside the hat's interior band, and then changes his armor there in the office.

Turning to his companions, Brogol nods in the direction of Riley. "Let's give him some time to stew on just how fooked he is, and go check the gate out. When we question him, if he's not cooperative, he may be surprised to find he's going on a hunger strike."

Eris claps with excitement upon seeing the rewards for their endeavors.

"Gifts are my love language," she says, winking at Razelago as she eyes a suit of full plate armor that could only be for her.

The armor appears to be made from several different sets by a maniac armorer.

The breastplate is dyed green and inlaid with a laughing demon inside an Asmodeus Archenstar, the spaulders are mismatched, one with a golden lantern and the other a firefly, while the collar of the gorget looks like a jester. One greave is dyed orange and the other purple.

"Now, I can tell how much you love me!" she exclaims. She runs over to hug Razelago, then kisses him in a way that could only be described as inappropriate in mixed company.

"I'll love you forever! Or--could you give that kiss to the archbaron for me? Maybe it's to share."

Don't worry, Father. I know what the archbaron has done--he shall pay!

I just looked up a picture of an accuser devil to remind myself... that's quite the tongue...

Razelago doesn't seem particularly surprised nor offended by Eris's exuberant display of appreciation. His obscenely long tongue flicks about the woman's neck as if licking nectar from a flower, then says, "Oh, I don't think I'll share you with him. He's a bit stuffy, though that can be fun, too."

With everyone seeming satisfied by the archbaron's largess, Razelago disappears once more though those familiar with magic likely realize he teleported rather than turned invisible.

Cimri simply takes her sack of items and deposits them unceremoniously in a corner, then says, "Well, if you're keen on it, why don't you head over to the gate and see what's what. I'll get the bard squared away in a cell and ready for your return."

Hoping to try out her new armor, she takes the lead and opens the door to the guardhouse.

And this is where I realize the update I had tried to post on Jan 29 was eaten by the evil server gobbos, just compounding my absence last week. Sorry all. Here we go.

Franz goes to close the gate. While heavy and the hinges are rusty from disuse, he's feeling unusually spry, filled with vim and vigor, and manages to close the gate without much trouble at all. What a fit and strapping octogenarian! (Or however old he is.)

The rest of the party heads towards the guardhouse, leaving the quiet and dark abode of the Gramels for later. Eris reaches out to open the door and finds it won't budge. It seems to be blocked from the other side.

Brogol steps backwards to let the charging Eris through, a small, bemused smile crossing his lips once she collides with the door. Thanks for the reminder, doc. No magic detected. And sorry about getting the age wrong... though I like the idea of an elder doctor! :D

Eris, a good wooden door has a break DC of... 18. You broke it! (And maybe you're shoulder, too. We'll see.)

Eris seems imbued with remarkable strength as she lowers her shoulder and plows into the guardhouse door. The wood gives way with a cannon-like crack, splinters flying through the door, as she collapses to the stone ground on the other side with a wet, sickly slurp.

"Slurp?"

She finds she has landed in a small puddle of partly congealed blood. In the corner is the body of a man in the livery of the archbaron's personal guard.

Brogol sees a couple of small windows on the second floor, not big enough for a human to pass through, though the roof might be climbable.

As the others watch Eris's bullish display, there is a sudden shriek from inside the tower and a ball of fire can be seen through the doorway as coming down from the ceiling and towards Eris.

The flames hit Eris squarely in her back and their a faint whiff of singed flesh. Eris takes 6 points of fire damage.

Submissions due by Sunday, February 16 at 12n (East Coast/New York)
If you're interested in submitting a character for a new Hell's Vengeance (HV) campaign, I am going to try to put all the relevant information in this post. Obviously, if you have any questions or something isn't clear, please ask and I'll answer as soon as I can.

Notes on the Evil Theme:

C. Paolini, Eragon wrote:
“Keep in mind… no one thinks himself a villain, and few make decisions they think are wrong. A person may dislike his choice, but he will stand by it because, even in the worst circumstances, he believes that it was the best option available to him at the time.”

This is explicitly an evil campaign, but that can mean different things to different people. So, I want to ensure we are all on the same page.

Even in the realm of fantasy, villains don’t usually think of themselves as “evil”. An interesting villain doesn’t wake up in the morning, look into a mirror, and think, “Gosh, I’m evil. What evil acts can I accomplish today to prove how evil I am?” A villain would probably explain his actions as being pragmatic, coldly calculated to lead to a justified end that, once reached, will be to the benefit of many (though likely not all).

A villain doesn’t run around killing people because the voices in his head told him to. Villains are not hopelessly insane; the villain realizes, whether due to design or circumstance, that he doesn’t conform to conventional views of morality. To put it into a literary context, Dracula was a villain who knew he was different but also “knew” he was better than mere mortals. In contrast, Renfield was a tragic figure in that he did evil things but he was trapped within his own mind and wholly subservient to Dracula.

Short-version is I want a mature, thought-out character that doesn't go around thinking about how to hurt people just for the sake of hurting them. They have a plan. They have goals. They (hopefully) even have friends and family they like (or at least don't hate). Make a three-dimensional character.

Important Even though the characters are evil, you are still a party. You need to develop a character that can work with others of similar predilections (e.g., serving House Thrune, Asmodeus, Devils, etc.). A little bit of snark is fine. Threatening other player characters is not. "My way or the highway" attitudes are not okay. We're playing this game to have fun; I don't need inter-player drama and conflict.

Finally, think of this as a PG-13 campaign. Sexual assault may be something for backstories, but we won't be part of the campaign. Torture will an option but resolved with a dice-roll and high-level narrative.

The Character Builds:

While the APs are written for 15-point buys, I want to give room for folks to play multi-ability dependent builds without feeling handicapped, so we're going to go with a 20 point buy. Here are the rest of the details:

- 20 point buy
- 2 traits, one of which must be a HV campaign trait from the Players Guide; no drawbacks/flaws
- No 3PP material but anything from Paizo is fair game as long as you can link to it on www.d20pfsrd.com
- Lawful Evil and Neutral Evil alignments are encouraged
- Good alignments are prohibited
- Neutral alignments (on the good-evil axis) are discouraged but not prohibited
- No Hero Points
- We will use background skills
- We will use the "Elephant in the Room" system for modifying the "Feat Tax" (link)
- If you want to play a summoner, it needs to be the Unchained version. Other classes may use original or Unchained, player's choice

Other Submission Requirements:

You may post your submission either with the actual alias you will be using or with the stat block pasted into a post with your primary profile.

With your submission, address the following questions in bullet point format:
1. What is your character's connection to Longacre? Why is he here?
2. Who is one NPC your character thinks of as a friend or ally? (Can be made up and not from AP or official source material.)
3. What is one goal for your PC other than the one provided in your campaign trait?
4. If your character is anything other than a human Chelaxian, explain how she fits in to Longacre.

You can write a more complete background story if you like but it's not necessary at this time. However, I will ask for the "Ten Minute Background" if your submission is accepted. Also, if accepted, I strongly encourage folks to talk with the other players and explore the possibility of interconnected backgrounds. Maybe you're friends, family, lovers, or simply allies.

House Rules:

- As mentioned above, we will use the "Elephant in the Room" system for modifying the "Feat Tax" (link)
- I've been playing Pathfinder since it came out and don't expect there are any rules I'll want to change beyond those in this document, but I still reserve that right. If I think there is an issue, I'll bring it up in the discussion thread and consider all views and input before making a decision.
- Monsters and foes may have their stats and abilities adjusted from the original source material in order to provide an appropriate level of challenge to the party, usually through application of a template or maxing of hit points.
- Similarly, I may tweak NPCs to better suit the campaign and the party, in terms of stats, personality, background and motivation.
- Level advancement will be based on milestones rather than awarding XP. In other words, I will let you know when it's time to level up and it will be at a time that is appropriate for how far you've advanced in the AP.
- No leadership feat.
- Romance isn't the focus of an AP and, frankly, gets a bit weird when you have a few other players reading along who aren't part of it. That said, romantic feelings can help provide background to characters, build relationships between PCs and NPCs, and so forth. So, I'm fine with this being lightly incorporated into the game and want to be clear that also includes LGBT characters, but we're not going into multi-page dialogues on this or explicit detail. If you'd like a romance novel, take it to PM. :) Put another way, flirtatious jokes, embarrassing scenes that give everyone a chuckle, and a quick kiss are fine. Anything else, we will have a "fade to black".

Mutual Expectations and Duration of Commitment:

- Players will be familiar with the information presented in the HV Players Guide and all rules related to their character.
- Once we get going, I expect everyone to post at least once per weekday and at least once on weekends.
- Posts don't need to be long or pieces of literature, but they should generally help advance a scene or the plot.
- If you haven't already, please read DH's Guide to Play by Post Gaming (link).
- You can expect me to post at least once a day, to respond to questions in a timely manner, and to let you know if I predict any problems on the horizon with my ability to post (e.g., vacation, work, family). Please do the same.
- I'll use Google Slides for maps and handouts
- A full AP can take a long-time to go through in Real Life, and significantly longer in a PbP format. As such, I'm going to commit to running the first book of the AP and ask you to make the same commitment. Once we finish the first book, we can decide whether to continue. If most players want to continue, others will have an opportunity to bow out and we can recruit replacements.

Final Notes
I'm looking for is 5 or 6 players whose characters will provide a good mix of abilities and fit within the theme of this campaign, both respect to the physical setting as well as the overall gestalt. I hope to be able to accept players with a range of experience with PbP, including people who have been unable to get into recent campaigns or who are new to PbP, as well as veterans.

As for me, I've been GMing face-to-face 3.5, Pathfinder and Starfinder games for more than ten years, including a homebrew DragonLance campaign, the DL Age of Mortals campaign, Jade Regent, Way of the Wicked, Skull & Shackles, Dead Suns, and Against the Aeon Throne. I've GM'd a few other PbP campaigns, played in a few more, and was away for the last year. I'm committing to having this as my only GM-PbP campaign, and no more than two PbP campaigns as a player.

Dotting in!
Probably going to aim for a Diabolist build of some form, as I usually aim for with Evil games.

Dotting in as well! I'm still settling in on the character idea however!

Edit: Lied, I'm thinking a Slayer, Butterfly blade archtype.

Dotting in also, I don't remotely have a clue as to what I'd want to play this time. Not the same as last time.

Sovereign Court

Hi guys. I am extremely keen to play this AP. Though I am new to PbP I am absolutely loving it and find it suits me very well. (I am a stay-at-home dad with kids at school so I get a lot of time to post)
I don't have a character idea yet. I'm flexible so am happy to fill gaps after anyone with something they really want to play has put their ideas forward.

Sovereign Court

With the Elephant in the Room feat tax changes I am considering a combat maneuver focused melee character.

@GM: How do you feel about an undead PC? Asking for a friend.

Anthorg, probably not a great idea thematically and I'm not currently thinking about templates for late game. If there is something specific you had in mind, I'd be happy to look at it.

I'm very interested in this, I was wondering, since you've played WotW if you'd allow the Lord of Darkness LE anti paladin subclass. I know this goes against the stated no 3rd party rule, but since it specifically deals with Asmodeus worship I was wondering if you'd make an exception?

I admit I suggested it before reading the player's guide (which I'm about to). I just like the concept.

Dot. I’ve been wanting to play this one for a long time. Probably a Martial(-ish) character. Antipaladin/Bloodrager/Barbarian, something like that.

Sovereign Court

Since others are looking at melee another idea I had was a necromancer. Would that fit in with this campaign?

Scarab Sages

I'm so excited to see this being offered! I'm definitely submitting something.

Right now I'm thinking Vivisectionist/Chirurgeon Alchemist built around the Local Tough campaign trait.

Toxic, great question. I don’t have my WotW materials in front of me (getting ready for bed) but is that the archetype from the WotW books or is it a different source? If it is the same, yes, that’s fine. If not, can you give me a link and I’ll take a look?

There is a Paizo LE Antipaladin, the Tyrant

GM, do you allow tieflings to roll on the variant ability chart? If so, can we take the Fiendish Heritage feat to roll three times and choose the best result?

SnowHeart is a great GM. And evil is one campaign I’ve never tried. So will need to put something together for this.

I’m thinking a fiend flesh shifter as when else could one be used?

Fox--Pantom wrote:

Fox, I almost missed this. I’ll follow-up tomorrow after some more reading and looking ahead to the later books.

What's starting gold? I didn't see it.

Aw! Thanks!!! (Your check is in the mail!)

Ouachitonian wrote:

Damn! I always forget something.

Please go with average for your class.

Mild Spoiler on Wealth:
The start of this AP definitely gets some respectable gear (for 1st level characters) in front of you very quickly.

Jerax Hellfire, tiefling antipaladin, has been my go-to character submission for all Hell's Vengeance pbp games here on the forums. He's done, I just need to edit him to GM Snowheart's specifications and remove a level. He's never made a pbp game all the way through, but I have faith in The Dark Lord this time will stick.

The Tyrant is what was confusing me with Lord of Darkness, but I’ll allow both. Thanks for pointing that out.

On the heritage/ability, yes and yes. I think if someone wants to do that, I’ll need them to post here to declare they’re going with a tiefling, taking that feat, and rolling. They can then incorporate that into their final submission and stat block.

And with that, good night all. Great questions but I gotta get some sleep! I’ll follow-up more tomorrow.

Done, done, and done. Here are my rolls:

1d100 ⇒ 9 You gain an additional +2 racial bonus to your Charisma score.
1d100 ⇒ 81 Once per day, you can use rage on yourself as a spell-like ability.
1d100 ⇒ 77 You can speak to insects.

Ok. Definitely not the last one. I'm leaning toward Bloodrager, so the extra Charisma or extra Rage rounds would both be helpful. Probably the Charisma, but I'll decide later.

Sovereign Court

I'm thinking I'll go with a summoner (Unchained of course) with a Kyton Eidolon

Sovereign Court

So just to help me keep track at this stage we have (In order of dot):
-Dαedαlus with ??
-Timeskeeper with Slayer, Butterfly blade archtype
-ScorchedOne with ??
-Fox--Pantom with Unchained Summoner
-ToxicStar with Antipaladin
-Ouachitonian with Martial(-ish) Antipaladin/Bloodrager/Barbarian
-rdknight with Vivisectionist/Chirurgeon Alchemist
-Grumbaki with Fiend Flesh Shifter
-TheWaskally with Jerax Hellfire, tiefling antipaladin

I can confirm, Snowheart is an awesome GM, and for a while, the Way of the Wicked campaign I was in with him as GM was my favorite game on the boards.
As it stands, I think I'm going to actually dust off/adapt a backup character I had from that game, a Void School/Worldseeker wizard, which actually pair awesomely with Diabolist, as both of their coolest abilities (Worldseeker's reduction on Planar Ally costs, and Void School's Reveal Weakness) scale with Caster Level, not Wizard level. Plus, you know, they both fit thematically in.

EDIT: Fox--Pantom- It seems great minds think alike

This is going to be fun. And thanks for feat tax, it’s very important for natural attack builds

Profile being built. Was going to go for Fiendish Heritage, but realize now that I need the feat

Dotting! I’ve got an Asmodean advocate cleric who just needs to be statted up.

Okay. Updating Jerax took a lot less time than I thought. I was thinking, since Longacre is such a small town, and other races are so rare; if other tiefling characters are submitted, I'd like to assume we all know each other, maybe even be friends by necessity.

The towering tiefling clops hard against Longacre's cobblestone streets, and enters the main guard house.
"Jerax Hellfire, reporting for duty, sir", spoke the antipaladin in his deep growl of a voice.

Sovereign Court

Has anyone else spotted the issue that we have 9 signups?

Sovereign Court

How do you make a new Alias?
All my other PbP has been PFS so I have just made a new organised play character

My Account > sign into your account > scroll down to Aliases on left side of screen > under your aliases, click button that says Create New Alias.

Okay Alias made.
I can't seem to add a picture though...

Yeah, that part of the site is down.

Hi, I am just getting back into gaming after six years away and this seems like an awesome adventure path for my first submission. I did a little play-by-post back in the day on a different website, but this would be my first go around here. I gamed from the mid 90's until the mid 2010's (2nd ed AD&D through to Pathfinder, along with some other systems as well), when my career moved me away from my gaming group. After that, between the job and starting a family I had little time to find and connect with a new gaming community. So on hiatus I went. Things are much more level now, and my wife has actually been encouraging me to do the things I enjoy, including gaming (crazy, right?)! So, here I am.

There are quite a few proposals for martial characters and at least one cleric of Asmodeus is in the works, so I was thinking maybe a skilled character would be good. My two ideas so far are as follows:

Human Bard (archetype: Brazen Deceiver) played as a newly trained operative of the church/government originally intended for subversive activity in other nations, but repurposed for propaganda/political work within Cheliax in light of the Iomedaens' recent efforts.

Halfling Unchained Rogue (trait: Good Slip) played as a right hand / lackey dispatched to assist a more powerful and classic Chelaxian character (hellknight, cleric of asmodeus, etc). Would be a totally loyal halfling bought into his role in Cheliax, but useful for playing the weak fool to gather info and the like. I would definitely want to tie his story in with another PC.

I am going to sleep on the concepts and see which sounds better to stat out in the morning.

Sovereign Court

Hey Oblivion's Scion
Nice to meet you.
While I don't know how GM SnowHeart will go about cutting the list down to 5/6 I'd be extremely keen to work on some history between characters with you, even if you don't go with the Halfling I still love some shared backstory.
Actually that goes for anyone who's keen for some shared backstory..
Send me a PM

Vivisectionist is what I was thinking too. I have a lawful character concept that fits this, I think. How about we're academic correspondents? We could build to fill different party roles, but we know each other and exchange notes.

I'm jumping in over here from the interest check.

I'm working on my character now.

Here's my submission.

Backstory:

Alaric has always known that he is better than everyone else, even his parents.

Born the scion of house Jeggare, he grew up being taught that Cheliax is the greatest nation on the face of Golarion, and that Jeggare (although never spoken aloud, he was never discouraged of his belief) is the greatest house of the empire, not Thrune.

Of all the skills that Alaric learned, delegation was the most important: he was taught to avoid the trap that most dictators and small thinkers fell into.

Micromanagement.

He knew that if recruited talented individuals, compensated them well, and gave them no reason to dislike you, they would obey of their own "free" will. This act of self deception amused Alaric to no ends. He quickly learned not to show this belief ever; instead, he would hold himself as an ally and champion of his lessers, allowing them to think that each decision they make that leads to the successful completion of Alaric's goals are indeed their own.

So, for now he bids his time and helps House Thrune. They've put out a call for adventurers, and he has answered that call.

How do I know Cimri?:

Cimri is a longtime friend of Alaric's father, and when Alaric went to answer the call, Alaric's father told him to seek her out and that she would help him, as Cimri "owes me boy. I'm letting you call in that marker".

Fox, once submissions close, I’ll go over the what everyone presented and try to look for characters that best fit the AP and have interesting concepts that will give material for RP. If someone has a history of other PbP campaigns here, I’ll look through some of their posts to get a sense of the frequency and quality of posting. (I also try to reserve at one place for folks new to PbP.) If I have any questions, I’ll reach out via PM and, given the nature of this AP, I will probably PM final candidates to confirm some items and make sure we’re on the same page. (

Once that’s done, I’ll announce the final selection here. Unfortunately it does mean not everyone will have a place (and it’s the part of starting an AP that I really dislike because I hate saying “no”) but I think it’s the fairest way to give everyone a chance instead of just folks who happen to be online at the right time to dot in or who dot in but don’t really understand what I’m looking for or what fits the AP. Hope that helps and sorry if that wasn’t clear. It’s how I’ve always done recruitments for my campaigns and how many (though certainly not all) of the recruitment threads function, though I have definitely seen some “first come, first offered” games.

Also, I think a necromancer could be plausible. By the time you’re able to cast lesser animate dead, you’ll be heading out of the city. But, in general, walking around civilized places (which is a large part of the AP) generally doesn’t lend itself towards a horde of undead minions in your wake as a more rural or dungeon-focused adventure would.

Okay Alias made.

I can't seem to add a picture though...

yeah, avatars have been borked for a couple weeks. It’s been reported on the Website Feedback forum and Paizo is working on it. They said something like it’s slated for a “near term” fix, so should be fixed soon.

Also, thanks for the submission! I’ll let you know if inhale *I have* (stupid iPhone autocorrect) any questions. Feel free to tweak and update between now and Sunday if you like; I’m not locking anyone in to anything until then.

Backstory:

Ingrid was born in the Fields of Chelam. Her family’s farm had been in the family for generations, and it had always prospered. This was due to the fact that the fields were blessed by an Asmodean Druid by the name of Letham. This was not, however, out of the kindness of his heart.

Her family had a multi-generational contract with the grove. The first-born child was always given to the grove in return for the blessings upon the land. A small price to pay: a child in exchange for peace, prosperity and a guarantee against starvation. Ingrid was her family’s sacrifice. As she would learn, the grove used the children either to raise new members of the grove, or as capital in their own infernal dealings. For Ingrid, that meant being offered for possession at an age so young that she couldn’t remember a time before hand.

Letham had expected her to die. All he expected of her was to act as a conduit for him to speak to a rather powerful devil. To his surprise, the young girl not only survived the process, but retained her mind and sanity. Such a rare occurrence was enough to garner his interest, and he took the Devil-Marked girl as his own.

Her childhood was thus spent in the grove, learning the ways of her people. As far as she was concerned, Letham was her father and the Druids her family. And while she did not have the calling to be a Druid herself, she did walk the path of the shifter. Though for her, it was not just a binding to the natural world, but also that of the Hells. To her, they were one and the same. They were both a source of power.

She has now come of age. Bound by contracts made with the grove before she could properly understand the agreements, she belonged body and soul to Asmodeus. And for the first time since she had been given to the Grove, she would see the outside world. By ancient pact, the Grove had to offer its support to a movement beginning in Longacre, which would act in the interest of Asmodeus. Ingrid was the Grove’s offering...

Appearance and Personality:

Ingrid is Devil-Marked. She had ruddy-red skin, black eyes, a tail, and skin tough enough to act as armor. Moreso, she has a smile filled with the pointed teeth of a predator and the ability to grow the claws and horns of her devil-kin. To say that she looks abnormal would be an understatement. And to say that her devilish appearance marred any beauty that might have existed would be obvious.

With that said, Ingrid is possessed with a keen sense of confidence, for she truly believes herself to be blessed. In her mind, she is superior to regular humans because of the gifts bestowed upon her. She is also convinced that she has a ticket to an immortal existence, so long as she plays her cards right. While a savage warrior, she also has a keen mind. As a devotee of Asmodeus, she is well versed in both his creed as well as the laws of the land. Likewise, she has studied the laws of the natural world, seeing in them just another subset of rules to be learned and applied to her benefit.

In her mind, the secret of existence was that everything was governed by laws. And the trick was finding whomever was best at making said laws, and then using them to your own benefit. Asmodeus, Iomodae...all of the gods were the same. It was just that Asmodeus was the most honest about how the world worked, and he was honest because he was the most powerful. And for that, he was worthy of her worship and devotion.

And with that she is complete. 4x primary natural attacks when shifting, 3x without it. A level plan on how to stay relevant in damage with natural attacks. A good range of face and support skills. Just lacking any kind of magic, and sadly couldn’t find a way to get Intimidate. But for that, I rationalize it as Ingrid believing that intimidation is for the foolish. If you Bluff someone or use Diplomacy, then they will *want* to help you. And thus they will continue to do so when you aren’t looking. But intimidating them only goes so far, and they will turn on you when able. So it is thus better to just rip their throat out with your teeth if someone needs scaring. It’s just more effective that way.

Dotting in from the Interest check. This got a lot of interest really fast. I'm leaning towards a skills-based character, but I'll see what speaks to me.

Since we're using Feat Tax rules, will Unchained Rogues get a replacement for the 1st level Finesse Training, which gives Weapon Finesse as a bonus feat? Same question for Swashbucklers and Swashbuckler Finesse.

Dotting in with Lily as my character. I need to adjust her for the build rules, modify her back story, and of course make her evil.

I do not see that anywhere in either the GM's posts or the link to the Feat Taxes, so I'd like confirmation from the GM that that is the case.

Much more interest than I anticipated, which is pretty exciting. Guess there really was an itch for this.

Anthorg and Phntm888, confirmed on unchained rogues getting Deft Maneuvers as replacement for Weapon Finesse. Details in spoiler box.

Rogue (Unchained)

The rogue’s Finesse Training class feature has been
adjusted to account for equipment rule changes -
specifically in regard to finesse and agile weapons.
Additionally, the Combat Swipe rogue talent is no
longer available.

Finesse Training
At 1st level, a rogue gains Deft Maneuvers as a bonus
feat. In addition, starting at 3rd level, she can select any
one weapon group listed under the fighter’s Weapon
Training class feature. Once this choice is made, it cannot
be changed. Whenever she makes a successful melee
attack with a finesse weapon or an agile weapon from
this group, she adds her Dexterity modifier instead of her
Strength modifier to the damage roll. If any effect would
prevent the rogue from adding her Strength modifier to
the damage roll, she does not add her Dexterity modifier.
The rogue can select a second weapon group at 11th level
and a third at 19th level.

With that, I think we're current on all the questions so far, but if I missed anyone, please just give a holler.

To summarize questions/answers so far:

* Starting Wealth is average for your class
* On tiefling variant abilities, they are allowed; just declare you will be using tiefling as your race, that you will be taking the tiefling heritage feat, and then roll 1d100 three times in this thread. You can then incorporate the results and your choice into your submission later.
* Using the archetypes for LE antipaladins (from Paizo or Way of the Wicked) is fine.

As a reminder, submissions will close on Sunday the 16 at 12n (New York/GMT-5 time). I will aim to pick 5 to 6 players.

One additional item I would like to ask, but I can follow-up separately by PM after submissions close, is if you are in a lot of PbP campaigns, please confirm you'll be able to post once a day during the week. I find this is really critical for a successful campaign to help sustain interest and give other players material to RP with.

Thank you, GM Snowheart. I am still mulling over my options, but am leaning towards either an Unchained Rogue, Inquisitor, or Mesmerist.

EDIT: Will we be using Skill Unlocks/Occult Skill Unlocks?
