Gods and Monsters and Heroes (Inactive)

Game Master Daxter

This is the story of a time long ago, a time of myth and legend. The gods used to be petty and cruel plaguing mankind with suffering. However, that time has long passed. The gods themselves have grown out of their petty squabbles and feuds and have realized that they were wasting their gifts. The gods are far closer to politicians than the lords they were in the time of old but no less powerful. In fact the gods themselves now live on Earth in the Hall of Olympieion. The building is less of a temple and more like a government building. The campaign takes place on ancient earth and will mostly center around the country of Greece and its neighboring countries.

Aikaterine will begin to head down the road. She will try to enjoy the peace of the road. When it veers near to the beach, she will walk upon the sand barefoot and will use her magic to sort out metallic objects hidden in the sand; washed ashore from ancient wrecks.

Casting Detect Metal. Let me know if she finds any hidden treasure! :P

If others permit her, she will challenge to see if she can pry their family member's names from their mind. With resistance, she intends to see where they are at currently and what their relationship is like with those of the group.

The day will stretch on and she will mostly be quiet, but at times, she will try to talk to her companions to learn more about them, without sharing much about herself. That will come out naturally.

As they settle down for camp, if any of them are crafters, she will give them a blessing on their creation of goods (+5). That evening, she will declare that they should have a fun time and enjoy some wine. At some point, she will cast a few snapdragon firework spells and bless herself with a polypurpose hallucination spell while watching them go off--all while eating and drinking in an effort to relax. It is clear that Aikaterine is trying to have fun this day.

As things wind down, she will recast her magical aura spells. This is so they appear nonmagical to people trying to discern that of her, and then will consider what scroll she should prepare for the coming fight. She settles on a Heightened Awareness scroll, and will write it out by the moonlight before heading to bed.

Amphitryon walked next to Aikaterine, enjoying the weather, the company, and not having anything actively trying to kill him. It was the little things in life, like using magic to find pocket change, which made life worth living.

When she asked to pry into his mind, he shrugged. "Just focus on the family, alright? At least until I figure out how to delete the history of my imagination."

In his mind came the image of a elven warrior, who unlike most of his kind, was of a large and powerful build. The elf had a a dour and serious face that seemed to be etched onto stone. In Amphitryon's mind the elf was larger than life, a towering figure who dominated the scene. The desire to be accepted from Amphitryon radiated in his mind, infusing all of his memories. The name 'Silverstar' featured prominently. For that was how Amphitryon saw his father. His father was the mercenary company and the company was him. Pushing harder would get the first name. 'Tarathiel." As for what he was doing? It was either the present, or a memory, but the elf was overseeing drilling the company...

He looked to Kyronai. "You should go next." For their mother

Aika casts a spell on herself, floating slowly into the air as Amphitryon readies his weapon and prepares a spell. Almost as quick as Zeus' lightning, a huge figure charges out of the trees that it is almost blurry until it stops. It stands on powerful hind legs with arms that end in vicious claws instead of hooves. Its head is possibly the only boarlike thing about it with razor sharp tusks covered with blood. It is also very, very, large and growls as it glares at you with fiery red eyes. Amphitryon is able to cast his spell and cover the creature in a pale glow that outlines its terrifying form.

Male Human(Amazing)

Aika and Kyronai:

This used to be a Razor Boar, a magical beast that had the ferocity to take one's head clean off their shoulders with their powerful tusks. However the claws and the ability to stand on its hind legs is not normal for this creature. Razor boars also have fast healing and the ability to trample those smaller than itself which is most things given its increased size. This creature also seems to be oddly intelligent given the way it looks at all of you and it seems supernaturally fast as if under the effects of haste.

Cyrene readies herself and casts a spell animating the most of the plants in the clearing. I approximated the placement, you can adjust it a bit if you like.

Reflex DC15: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 12

The roots seem to lock the creature in place but it resists the poison. The creature attempts to break free with raw power.

It is successful and moves through the area, very angry at Cyrene.

Fortitude DC15: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (4) + 14 = 18

It seems to not currently be affected by the enchanted foliage.

"Something is doing this, something is making this!" "That used to be a Razor Boar! He is under the effects of...a haste spell?!"

Can they determine whether this is by the means of an alchemical solution as before or a direct spell?

Aikaterine had been studying the spells of the necromancer that they had fought. While some were just evil, some were actually useful. In a situation like this, the mage calmly starts to chant a verse of arcane words all dealing with sight. Each one after the other includes greater and greater descriptions of vision, and then at the end of her chanting, she calls all vision to stop in the boar's eyes.

"I've heard that when boar hunting a spear is the best option." Amphitryon remarked, as he took a step forward and threw his spear at the Boar. As it hit with a *thunk* the spear vanished and came back into his hand. "If this doesn't work, I am going to try make it dark here, so that nobody can see. But it will still be lit up..." He trailed off. He didn't even know if he could control the shadows that well, but if it did work then it wouldn't be good to have everyone freak out.

Aikaterine finds that her spell is being resisted. As she chants, she finds its inner fortitude capable of repelling the curse. She then watches in horror as the party is trampled underfoot.

"This being is supported by dark, evil energies. It bolsters it somehow! Any sort of protection from evil would help!"

A moment later, the mage casts a spell with a combination of saltpeter and magnesium next to where she hovers. What initially looks like a sizzling bit of fire, turns into a group of fireworks summoned. Each one seems intent on going to where she aims it. The pyrotechnic zigs and zags on its way down. Yeah, Aikaterine casted levitate (5 rounds) before combat started. I had forgotten, too, and had to look it up. Last post on the previous page.

Deftly circling the beast as it tramples his companions underfoot, Kyronai winces in sympathy. Setting his sights on the boar-creature, he draws his bowstring back as a misty black arrow forms for a brief second before it is loosed at the witch's target.

Yes, it last saw someone go in that direction.

Aika fires off a fiery ray that chars some of the beast's hide as well as another firework.

Reflex: 1d20 + 11 - 1 ⇒ (6) + 11 - 1 = 16

Cyrene switches to close quarters combat and scores a hit with her blade. Amphitryon hits with his opportunistic swing but misses when he tries to follow up. Varocles is able to score a fairly damage swing with Poseidon's weapon. Meanwhile Kyronai attacks the beast again by sapping its vitality. Fortitude DC18: 1d20 + 14 - 1 ⇒ (17) + 14 - 1 = 30

The beast decides to swing at all of its attackers, both in the dark and clearly visible.

Embarrassingly enough, Amphitryon wasn’t used to fighting in his own darkness. He awkwardly stabbed out at the boar, trying to get his feet placement right. It was a flaw that he would have to work on…

The flames on the boar's back seemed to be digging in deeper, and its feet hardly able to hold its great weight. Still, if she could finish it, it might save poor Cyrene, and now Amphitryon's life. With a quick wave of her hands in a circle, and a chant of arcane words, a magical spark follows her firework down, but it seems to travel separately to a different area. When it gets closer to the ground, suddenly a heart-pounding, massive burst of bitter cold surges outward from the area and envelopes the massive boar in chill. Just a moment later, her firework explodes, searing its frozen feet in phosphorous, saltpeter, and fire.

Amphitryon is able to score a hit as the beast dodges Aika's spells. Varocles is unable to pierce the beast's hide while Cyrene lays dying from her wounds. Kyronai is able to finish the beast off though. The force missiles are the final nail in the coffin for the monster. As it staggers backwards from the impact it roars in pain. As it does so, you can hear wailing anguish come from its maw before it falls to the ground dead. Combat Over!

Kyronai and Amphitryon:

I need both of you to each roll a DC20 Will save. Whoever fails will lose access to all magical abilities until told otherwise. I.E. Amphitryon will lose his gloomblade and Kyronai will no longer be able to cast spells/hexes.

Cyrene:

As you lay unconscious, you see yourself in a village. Everyone is panicking as a large boar wrecks havoc, killing livestock and people. It's eyes glow the same color as the beast that felled you and has the same color fur, though this one is smaller and looks to be far more mundane looking as it tramples around on its four hooves. You hear voices scream and yell asking about heroes that were called for. As you look down, you realize you are not in your own body but one of the unlucky villagers in this town. You run away but the beast spots you and the last thing you see is its tusks impale you before it all goes dark.
