DM Nate |

Welcome chosen knights!
Please introduce yourselves as players. You don't need to divulge any personal information but let each other know about your experience with RPGs and PbP, maybe what parts of the game you enjoy the most? Please also introduce your characters: maybe give a 1-2 sentence overview of their role/build; 1-2 sentences on appearance/personality/goals/etc; and 1-2 sentences on their build and how you see them working in the party.
As far as I'm concerned, everything's still fluid with your builds right now. I'd definitely prefer nobody make any huge shifts, but as we sort of figure out how the party will work as a unit I am open to people changing archetypes/feats/whatever so that everything fits and works together. You are, of course, also perfectly welcome to leave everything as is with your character; I'm definitely not going to force anyone to switch anything! Off the top of my head, two examples of things to consider are: 1) Gavin and Indrana both have channeling phylactries- probably only one of you really needs that? 2) Jonuli, you seem to be favoring natural attacks but only get 9 rounds/day of that... if being a suli isn't crucial to your concept a pitborn tiefling has the exact same stat modifiers (with only one less resistance) and can replace their racial SLA with permanent claws?
Also, I'll open up the gameplay thread shortly with kind of a throw away post so that you can all dot and delete (if you post anything at all and then go back and delete the post the game will show up in your campaign tab, but please remember to go back and delete it until we actually start gameplay).

I don't have a character to write about but I'm a long time roleplayer with a fair bit of PbP experience. I've been playing TT games for longer than I care to admit (probably 27-28 years now) and have played quite a few systems (every D&D from basic to 3.x; a bunch of palladium games; several white wolf games; GURPS, just to name a few of the more popular/common ones). I started playing pathfinder while it was in beta and its been the thing I've played most since then. I started doing PbP about 4 years ago when I moved away from the people I'd been playing with IRL. I'm currently playing in a couple games and running one that's a modified version of Rise of the Runelords (we're into book 2).
I don't shy away from combat, and will try to keep the game moving, but I really enjoy the RP elements and like it when people take the time to be descriptive in their posts (I'm also a big fan of players sharing their inner monologues). I hope to run an adventure that will be fun and exciting, and will provide opportunities for you all to do the things you enjoy about the game.

Indrana |

Here I am, thanks for selecting me!
As for how I see Indrana participating she is very much a support build she isn't supposed to be any closer than 10 feet from an enemy and when in melee will rely on using adoration to avoid big hits. She will provide bonuses from bardic performance and use her spells to affect the battle. I haven't filled out the clerical spells prepared yet but will over the next day or so. Given her selection she can provide limited control with her various spells trying to turn enemies into allies.
Out of combat Indrana is meant to be the counselor type and a moderating influence. She is able to be the face of the party if needed and is accepting worshippers as she is a burgeoning goddess after all.
I imagine that Indrana has a small number of worshippers currently and will detail out a few of them. They would help her with her various tasks and ministries but will be very much background characters that could be used for plot hooks.
As for equipment I'll look into that. I don't believe I took selective channeling so I might ditch my philactary in liue of something else. I'll have to look into after work.

JoeLudwick |

I have been playing rpg's for about 25 years. Love the flexibility of pathfinder. I keep my pbp games to a low number so I can give them the attention they deserve. This will be my 3rd currently active game and all are close to daily posting.
I'm a father of adult kids (all of whom also play)(3 boys)
I enjoy healing/support roles and Gavin will be tank, heals and status removal. I will try to get his melee damage up a little, but I don't see that really being his focus.
Gavin is an old school, lead-by-example paladin. In combat, he understands all languages, but speaks only celestial.

Indrana |

Hmmm, realized I missed some sections on the last post. I'll work on those later when I have the time. While I can occassionally post from work it is by no means reliable and tends to be a bit rushed as it can take a couple hours to make a small post. Most of my posting is before/after work or wed/weekends when I'm off.
I've been playing games since elementary school on the old NES but as far as RP it's only been the last 15-18 years and most of it has been pathfinder. I am also involved with Legends of the Shinning Jewel living campaign as second tier campaign staff and play/run games for it at Origins and Gencon.

Yvegni Pekar |

Helloo and thank you...
I have been playing for about 30 years. I started with Middle Earth, then Gurps, Shadowrun, D&D, White Wolf games, and a ton of others before settling in with Pathfinder shortly after its release. I've had the same home game group for 25 years, and 90% of the time I GM. I've run a dozen or so games here.. started around 2011 with Kingmaker. My favorite things in home games are doing different character voices and personalities. In PBP I most enjoy inter-party dynamics - playing off each others' personalities. I also enjoy the opportunity to play with different people (due to having played with the same people at home for so long).
Yvegni is primarily built to be a battlefield controller with force spells (with knock down, knock back, and walls), and enchantments. He has insanely high knowledge in all knowledges (a +30 to identify any type of creature).
He greatly desires to leave his mark on the world (academia in particular). He is working on his own bestiaries and travelogs, and wants to find and fill a need in the greater lexicon of spells - to become like one of the circle of eight or Elminster of other worlds.
He sees himself as a tactician, and supporter of his allies needs (he devotes the majority of his prepared extracts to party usage). He is not an attractive man (hunched and a bit homely), but he exudes a palpable aura of power. While traveling/adventuring he rarely walks, he prefers to move about riding his floating disk (mythic version).

Jonuli Mudarch |

I was introduced to role playing games in 1990 by a friend from a local BBS while I was at college in Gainesville, FL. After meeting my wife I took a break until 7 years ago or so when a friend from work invited my wife and I to a Rogue Trader game. I picked up another game running Pathfinder and have been playing mostly on the boards the last few years. I'm currently residing in Charlotte, NC.
I want to thank you DM Nate for picking me. I've been trying to get some version of this character into a game for a while now.
Jonuli HATES those that enslave others, whether physically or magically. He is meant to be a deep striker with dimension door and his claws. Besides the 9 rounds of claws a day, he has polymorph spells to turn him into creatures with claws and ultimately into dragons. The suli race is meant as a means to exposing him to slavery from birth. I could change the race and the story, but I think with spells and two handed weapons he should be ok. If you disagree let me know.
I may change the spells up some and I need to buy gear.

Indrana |

Now that I'm home and have other gameplay posts done back to the rest of this.
Expanding on RP experience a bit I have been involved with Play by Post specifically for around six or seven years now I think and have been, and am in, a number of them. I play both here and on RPOL.
My game preferences lean more towards social as opposed to combat. I prefer more social characters largely because I am not very social IRL and it has helped me get past some of my limitations in that venue. Dungeon Crawling is fine in moderation but my posting usually slows up if they go for too long as interest wains a bit during those times (probably because dice hate me most of the time).
As far as appearance I have a picture for that in the profile as well as a write up but I'll put it here as well.
Description
Indrana is a gorgeous thirty year old aasimar woman with pale pink skin, curly brown hair to her lower back, and a gorgeous figure. She wears light clothing mostly dresses in reds and pinks, and stands roughly five and a quarter feet tall. The most obvious feature of her extraplanar heritage is her eyes which appear to be pink beryls that glow with their own internal light. She wears a holy symbol of Shelyn around her neck and carries a glaive that she uses to devastating effect in combat. Her voice is always lyrical sounding and she moves with the grace of a dancer and draws the eye of most everyone who enjoy looking at beautiful women by her mere presence.
Indrana
Personality wise Indrana is more of a lover than a fighter. While she won't hesitate to fight if necessary to protect those she cares for she will try to defuse a situation first if given the chance. She has something of an open door policy and will welcome anyone who needs help as best she can. She also enjoys performing for an audience and entertaining them and is very much trying to attract the God King's eye and earn his love.

@Jonuli- you're welcome to keep the race if you want, I was specifically pointing out tieflings as an option because with your build always having claws (even if they're less effective than your 'real claws') could be pretty helpful and you wouldn't really need to change your background (because enslaving and mistreating tieflings is probably just as common, or more common, than doing so with suli). Just a thought.
*Regarding Spells*
Between the 5 of you, we have: two 9-level divine casters, a 6-level divine caster, and a 4-level divine caster; plus, two 9-level arcane casters and two 6-level arcane casters. That's a lot of spells, lol. Please feel free to discuss what kind of spells you hope/plan to cast with each other so we don't end up with a ton of overlap and some glaring holes (or don't, what's the worst that could happen).

Gabriel, Sol Invictus |

Hello!
I'm Jer (a diminutive), I'm from Spain and I've been playing tabletop RPGs since I was 14 (that is... 26 years ago already! Damn, time goes by so fast...). I'm usually inclined towards the proper combination of combat, intrigue and flavourful conversation. One cannot be without the other, in my mind, and I've discovered through the years that every GM has his/her specific formula to achieve that, so the key is reaching the perfect agreement with him/her. You scratch my back, I scratch yours.
I can speak English from long ago (and I even teach it), but sometimes old vices kick in, so please forgive any mistakes. The hardest part is getting used to all your slang and "street vocabulary", especially when you all come from different backgrounds, states and even countries.
Gabriel is, well... he can do a lot, and I mean a lot, of damage. Divine spell boosting as swift, Weapon Training, Favoured Enemy, Natural Flying... all is specifically designed to allow him full-round attacks fully buffed every turn. Out of combat, well... he's a decent scout, I guess, and could improve that thanks to some arcane buffing.
He's an active guy fighting Evil, and abandoned his home because he felt people there were too stagnant and resigned. He seeks in Xin Shalast a way to channel all his enthusiasm. He'll work fine with whoever is not too strict but also not too loose, and always when action is due.
His spells are more inclined towards personal buffing (since this he can do as a swift action), but the spare slots are filled with staples or "flavour" spells (Sun Metal, e.g.,is there just because it fits his theme). This can be adjusted to more niche spells that other, more dedicated divine casters might find a hard time to prepare. After all, if Gabriel doesn't have spells, he can always shoot arrows.

Indrana |

Looks good Gavin, I'll keep it in mind when I prepare my clerical list as well. I would warn that bless isn't going to be as useful as bardic performance will over ride half of what it does though the attack bonus will still work.
I'll get my clerical list roughed out, at least the stuff I take daily, and leave some empty slots tonight/tomorrow. Unfortunately it is now time for breakfast and work for 10 hours. Let's hope there isn't a repeat of last night when most of the network went down and that they still aren't playing catch up this morning.

Yvegni Pekar |

Jonuli - You might consider exchanging Glitterdust with something else... Indrana has it as a SLA, and I (who can see invisible) have it as well. I also have an ability to expend an extract with a similar effect.
I'm thinking I should back off the Enchantment school considering Indrana appears to have that covered (and it is more thematically integral for her).

nate lange RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32 |

@Jonuli- I don't believe we do have anyone with trapfinding... I think there might be a couple spells that could help with that if anyone is worried enough to take them, or you can have Gavin check doors and trust his high saves (and healing ability) to 'deal' with any traps? (Or somebody could switch to an archetype with trapfinding if they really want to?)
@Everyone- It sounds like you're all pretty settled with changes and picking the things you hadn't finalized yet? If that's the case, I'll start auditing character sheets today and we should be able to get gameplay going by the end of the week!

Indrana |

There, clerical list filled out. Any offensive spells (spear of purity/searing light/etc) can be considered empty slots unless we know we're going into combat in which case I'll adjust accordingly.
I also swapped out the phylactery for a normal rod of reach spell for one increment increase which makes it a +1 and costs the same as the phylactery did.

Gabriel, Sol Invictus |

Is Trapfinding really really something needed? If no one can deal with traps with the huge amount of spells we pack, I might consider changing the Ranger Archetype, though it would go against the background, and I wouldn't have a ton of skill points to throw into Disable Device. Honestly, I'd rather stay as I am.

Jonuli Mudarch |

It's not so much the disabling traps it's the opening locked things. Anyone can find a trap but not everyone can open a lock chest without destroying it or open a locked door quietly.

Jonuli Mudarch |

@Everyone- It sounds like you're all pretty settled with changes and picking the things you hadn't finalized yet? If that's the case, I'll start auditing character sheets today and we should be able to get gameplay going by the end of the week!
I am going to switch over to tiefling per your suggestion, it shouldn't have a major effect on anything. I've got a bit of money to spend yet (it's not in the profile yet but in my google docs) most of which will be for a spellbook and I might change a spell or two.

DM Nate |

Gavin PMed me a more specific version of his question and I'm going to answer it here since every one of you can use scrolls... You can get scrolls of basically any spell you can afford. When calculating cost, make sure to remember that you have to add the price of any costly material components to the base cost, and (iirc) if you want to get one that requires a focus (like the mirror for the scrying spell) I'm pretty sure you have to have the appropriate focus when you use the scroll. I am alright with you picking up a couple of scrolls of spells that have been modified with metamagic feats, as long as you don't go overboard with it (and make sure to price them correctly).
@Jonuli- no problem, let me know when you're ready

nate lange RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32 |

Thanks, Jonuli. I had to do a funeral this morning so I’m not as far on audits as I planned but I’ll finish them this weekend and (unless there are any objections) we’ll officially get started on Monday.
I don’t want to be overly particular about how you all do your banners but it would be really helpful for me if you could please all include the following information in them somewhere:
Current hp/Max hp
AC (tAC/ffAC)
CMD
Saves
Perception (special senses)
Sense Motive
Initiative
please include distances with special senses, something like “perception (darkvision 60’) +17” would be great.

Jonuli Mudarch |

Thanks, Jonuli. I had to do a funeral this morning so I’m not as far on audits as I planned but I’ll finish them this weekend and (unless there are any objections) we’ll officially get started on Monday.
Sorry to hear you lost someone.
I'm looking forward to Monday.

nate lange RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32 |

Thanks, but it wasn't anyone I was personally close with- I work as a pastor and am often called upon to perform funerals for people who used to attend the church I serve, or for family members of people who currently have some connection. It's still emotionally taxing because I spend a significant amount of time with the family in their grief but it definitely isn't the same as losing someone yourself.

DM Nate |

@Indrana
I looked over your crunch and noticed a couple things:
- it looks like you're missing a trait (everyone should have 2)
- your inspire courage bonus is listed at +4 but it looks like it should be +3?
- I don't see a favored class bonus? I checked if this was related to the inspire courage bonus, but even with the pre-nerf +1/2 bonus you'd count as 16th level which is still +3...
- under path abilities you have legendary item listed but the descriptive text is from the still the blade ability. I don't see a legendary item so I'm assuming you're taking the latter?
This isn't an audit issue, just an observation... Your AC is noticeably worse than everyone else's. I know you have mirror image plus a few tricks for avoiding attacks (like the adoration granted power, and maybe still the blade), but I just wanted to make sure you'd thought about that. If you're not worried about it that's fine, but if you are there are a few options:
- right now it looks like the only ecclesiatheurge benefit you're really using is the bonded item? you could drop the archetype and shift your purchases to include a mithril breastplate or something like that.
- you could drop a level of bard to dip one level of scaled fist monk? You'd lose one 3rd and one 4th level spells/day, and 2 skill points, but you'd get a huge boost to your AC (and the ability to threaten adjacent squares) and you could use FCB to keep inspire courage at +3... I think the enlightened warrior trait is supposed to be for idyllkin (not musetouched) aasimar but I'd let you take it if you want to go this route.
- you could shift some of your purchases to pay for spell research to add nereid's grace or something similar to it to one of your spell lists?
- since you're using Shelyn's fighting style, we could homebrew a prestige class that included the devoted muse's 'artful defense' ability? by which I mean I would put together one with some input from you...
Let me know if any of those sound appealing to you.

Indrana |

your inspire courage bonus is listed at +4 but it looks like it should be +3?
I corrected the Inspire Courage bonus, you're correct it is +3, got it confused with Inspire Competence.
I don't see a favored class bonus?
Fav Class went into hit points hence the additional +11 HP.
it looks like you're missing a trait (everyone should have 2)
Second Trait was Heirloom Weapon (made sense and is part of the background).
under path abilities you have legendary item listed but the descriptive text is from the still the blade ability. I don't see a legendary item so I'm assuming you're taking the latter?
You are correct, it is the godling ability and has been corrected.
As for Ecclesiathurge
Yes, the ac is pretty bad as an ecclisiathurge the benefits to it are:
1.) Ecclesiathurge's vow (sucks).
2.) Bonded holy symbol (rather meh really)
3.) I can change the secondary domain spells out for a different domain domain that Shelyn provides each day during preparation but not the abilities. That means I have potentially the domain spells for Prot, Luck, or Air instead of the ones for the good domain. (can be a pretty big deal).
4.) Blessing of the Faithful can be very powerful, especially when burning a channel to extend the duration as it stacks with most buffs as it is a sacred bonus.
This is where one of the downsides of the automatic bonus progression come into play. It doesn't account for classes that might have gotten an armor bonus from bracers of armor very well as I would have bought some to boost it more provided you ruled it didn't violate the vow to do so. Or am I mistaken and those are something that can be taken?

DM Nate |

Oh, sorry, I thought that was +12... in that case, I see your FCB but it looks like you're missing the bonus hp from your mythic tiers.
Sadly, no- bracers of armor are not available. Only the first option affected the archetype, but if none of the other options I offered appeals to you, you could pick up a wand of mage armor and ask someone to use it on you every hour while you're in situations you think could be dangerous? Or, maybe Yvegni could make you an infusion or two every day if you paid for the research to add it to his alchemist list?

Yvegni Pekar |

Or, maybe Yvegni could make you an infusion or two every day if you paid for the research to add it to his alchemist list?
I'd be happy to do that if that works for you. For a one time investment of 25 gold, each extract would last 11 hours... so not too shabby.

DM Nate |

I think, since its not normally on the alchemist spell list it would have to be handled as spell research... I thought that was like 1,000g/spell level? I suppose I should look that up on order to allow for informed decisions...
Edit:
The research should cost at least 1,000 gp per spell level (or even more for particularly exotic spells) and require both the Spellcraft skill and a Knowledge skill appropriate to the researcher’s class.
For an alchemist I think we could replace one of those rolls with craft[alchemy], but frankly I don't think you (Yvegny) could fail any of those checks. So, if Indrana wants to pursue that route it would be a one time 1,000g investment.

Indrana |

Isn't mage armor one of the spells that is removed by ABP? thought it was for some reason.
My mistake, you're right, the HP was from the tiers, it was +1 skill point per level.
As for the AC issue, finding a way to get a charisma bonus to AC would be rather nice, and Nereid's Grace would work.
Given what I am building her towards (becoming a goddess) maybe something could be done via a mythic ability to gain that as a bonus.

nate lange RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32 |

3rd tier Univesal Path ability
Deific Defense (Su)- You have learned to trust in your emerging divine nature, rather than traditional defenses, to protect you. You gain your Charisma modifier as a bonus to your armor class, but cannot fully benefit from armor bonuses or class abilities such as canny defense or the monk's AC bonus that provide dodge or untyped bonuses. This bonus will stack with such bonuses only to a maximum of your current tier (you gain the better of either your Cha modifier plus up to your tier in armor and associated bonus, or your normal bonuses plus up to your tier in Cha bonus). Natural armor and deflection bonuses are not limited by this ability.
For you (Indrana) that would just add your Cha to your AC, since your armor bonus is less than your tier, but if Gavin (just as an example) wanted to take it he would only gain +4 because he could only stack 3 points of his armor bonus with his (impressive) Cha bonus. Let me know what you think?

Jonuli Mudarch |

While Deific Defense is nice, I think Jereru is right in just opening up Enduring Armor to Hierophants or even making it universal. I understand why Indrana doesn't wear armor and why I don't, unless I'm missing something Gavin could wear full plate.

nate lange RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32 |

@Jereru- I thought about that but I don't like the idea of just taking abilities from one list and adding them to another (that kind of defeats the whole purpose of having paths, or the dual path feat for that matter). As for the stat dependence, I keyed it off Cha because that stat is very often associated with those abilities (and because I was trying to develop an ability that would help bring Indrana's AC in line with the rest of the party). Wis casters already have options for similar AC boosts if they need them (like a dip in monk, or the sacred fist warpriest archetype).
@Indrana- I'm glad that worked out. Again, I don't want you to feel like you need to take it if you don't think it's necessary, or aren't really satisfied with the ability, but I wanted to make it an option if you wanted it.
@Everyone- we lost heat at work yesterday amidst some fairly heavy snowfall, so that turned into a whole thing. As a result I'm not as far through audits as I planned to be, but I am still planning to get through everyone else today and hopefully still start tomorrow!
edit:
@Jonuli- I was using Gavin as an example of someone who probably wouldn't want to take it... I tried to design the ability so that it would benefit someone like Indrana who can't really wear armor but not be worth taking for someone like Gavin who could just throw on full plate (I was trying to design it in such a way that it couldn't be abused by a paladin in fullplate to get an obnoxious AC).

DM Nate |

@Yvegni
Most of your crunch looks good... I may have miscounted but it looks like you might have shorted yourself 1 skill point? Also, per this post, I'm not allowing anyone to start with half price gear, so you'll have to go over your purchases again. With 3 crafting feats your total starting gold will be 56,000 (the extra gold is to represent having crafted stuff in the past), but you have to pay full price for every purchase.
One observation- You'll be able to switch what you prepare on any given day, so this isn't a big deal, but Gavin is set up for a quite a bit of healing, so you might want to consider preparing a few more buff infusions instead of so many cures?

DM Nate |

@Jonuli
Your crunch looks pretty good... I think you may have shorted yourself 2 mythic points per day? Also, It would be very helpful if you could format your skills so that I can see the breakdown of your bonuses (not just helpful for me, it may be helpful for you if you need to figure out if a certain buffs stacks for you or things like that). My favorite format is the one Gabriel is using, but anything that separates the bonuses would be good. Other than that, it looks like you're applying your attunement bonus to your force armor... after looking over the rules for both of those things again, that looks like its within the rules. It doesn't list an action for attuning something so I'm going to rule it a standard action, and the rules do say that you can only change your attunement 1/day (so, if your force armor gets dispelled or you walk into an anti-magic field you can generate a new set as a swift action, per the ability, but it'll take you a standard action to attune the new set; and, if it happens a second time in the same day you'll have to go without your attunement bonus for the rest of the day).
@Yvegni- the second half of that might be of interest to you.
