Pricing Concerns

The Exchange Star Voter Season 6, Star Voter Season 9

I'm going to try being careful about what I'm submitting, so as to not reveal anything...

In determining the price for "charges per day", the books don't say anything (as far as I can tell, for anything that has "charges per week", or "charges per month". How would I determine the price for that?

Also, in determining the price for adding in a spell that uses material components, the pricing lists are there, but what if the spell requires a material component (worth X gp) AND a focus (worth X gp)?

At this point, your best bet it to look at the Wondrous Item tables, compare your item with what you think are items of like power and go with your instincts.

You cannot calculate the perfect price, it's kind of an art. If you have most of the price calculated, start looking at items of similar price, would you buy your item or those, etc.

Good luck.

Alrighty then. Many thanks!

I think periods longer than 'per day' are discouraged as being a pain in the rear to keep track of and discouraging slow play ("Sorry guys, I already used my widget this week. Can we hang around in town for a week before we go back into the dungeon?") That's why you won't find any pricing guidelines for them. I would probably price "once per week" at about half to two-thirds of the price of a once per day item, but honestly I'd just avoid that kind of refresh rate. It doesn't suggest fun play to me.

I don't recall the cost of a focus being incorporated into an item. I probably wouldn't add the cost at all.

At this stage, I would say "go with your gut".

But, for what it's worth:

- Charges per day: divide 5 by the number of the item's charges per day and then divide your item's current total for the resulting number. For charges per week/month I would convert them to day and use the same formula (i.e. 5 charges per month = 0,16 charges per day)

- Regarding material components, the rules say:

Quote:
In addition, some items cast or replicate spells with costly material components. For these items, the market price equals the base price plus an extra price for the spell component costs. The cost to create these items is the magic supplies cost plus the costs for the components.

Since the Divine Focus is the material component equivalent for divine versions of arcane spells, I would add their cost, too (but not add both costs).

Quote:
If the Components line includes F/DF or M/DF, the arcane version of the spell has a focus component or a material component (the abbreviation before the slash) and the divine version has a divine focus component (the abbreviation after the slash).

I agree with that.

Liberty's Edge

Pricing and Caster Level were the hardest part of my submission. I ended up finding two similar items in the Core Rulebook and guessing from there.
