You glide through the thoroughfares of the city on the three magic carpets that Jairo lent you, surrounded by the strange sights and sounds of the bustling metropolis.

As you enter a passageway between two tall buildings, a 4-foot long lizard suddenly swoops into you path! It's scales and horns spark with electricity as at hisses as you:

This is an electrified steam lizard. It seems similar to a shocker lizard, though likely unique to this plane. They are immune to electricity and fire, known for their electrical and steam attacks, and don't have any notable defenses. Generally, they speak Auran and Ignan.

"It's threatening us to give up our research and leave," he explains. "I told it that Pathfinders don't do that; I expect it's going to back up its threats, though. Be ready!"

As an afterthough, he ponders almost to himself, but loud enough for all to hear. "Or maybe that's a warning, and not a threat? How did it know we were here? Somebody at the party must not have been as friendly to us as we thought."

Menarul gives a sigh. "He's mostly just telling us to stop researching stuff. Get out of town. Typical 'we don't want you finding x information or y idea' Here I can give you a complete translation."

Menarul then pulls out his notebook copying down the words in auran and then adjusting them to common. Menarul then translates Xiao's comments adding in a few polite snaps and crackles himself. Aid another diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25

Menarul is in this series because he speaks all four elemental languages.

After Menarul translates, the creature seems to become even more agitated. Sparks and small puffs of steam spit from its nostrils as it replies.

Sunlight Under Stone peers at Menarul's translation, then back at the lizard thing. "What an odd creature," says the animated collection of sticks and vines. He concentrates, and Ancient Stone Glider abruptly stops whizzing around and returns to the carpet before dissolving into shiny rocks that Sunlight Under Stone catches and puts in their backpack.

Sunlight Under Stone grins. Bits of stone begin to float from the nearby buildings as the air quakes around the leshy.

GM:
So, when I've run stuff on elemental planes before, they've almost always had planar traits that make certain spells easier and certain ones harder. It would make sense to me that the Plane of Air would make it more difficult to use an earth spell-like ability. Sunlight's blasts don't deal energy damage, so they technically don't have the [earth] descriptor - but it would make a ton of sense if they did. I'll roll a concentration check to be safe - let me know if you want me to keep doing so.

Concentration vs DC 21: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16

So this blast would fail if you choose to enforce that interpretation. Just let me know!

Satisfied with the ball of elemental earth, Sunlight Under Stone throws it at the lizard. Yay for finally having Precise Shot!

Menarul pulls out a small ball of wrapped papers with an fuse, and he carefully applies something to the fuse. As the fuse heats and then ignites, he lobs the thing onto the flying lizard. "I take it that the lizard just doesn't want to talk, giving that hissing!"

Sunlight Under Stone:
I'd say no concentration check required since they don't have the earth trait. (Maybe I'd rule differently in a home game, but I think that's definitely the call in PFS.) So, no need for concentration checks.

The electrified steam lizard is menaced by the eagle, which gets in one hit, before the kineticist's blast solidly slams into the creature. While Menarul's bomb connects, the lizard seems to shrug off the flames.

The lizard flies nimbly through the air. When it closes with Sunlight Under Stone, a spark jumps from its horns to the kineticist.

Nonleathal Electricity: 1d8 ⇒ 8 DC 13 halves.

Sunlight Under Stone steps back. "Get away from me!" they yell as the air around them seems to solidify slightly before another chunk of earth flies the the creature and tries to push it back!

what are the rules/functions of these carpets? I'd like to move it around so that Cal can get into melee with him at the edge of the carpet. Assuming that's a standard to direct the carpet? If so (and I've done that on the map), he'll do that and also summon his phantom blade.

The description on the carpet is a little vague. It's clearly a standard to get it in the air, but it says it is "controlled by spoken directions" afterward. Let's say it's a move action to direct it (as it would be if it were a noncombat mount). I'm willing to entertain other opinions if anyone has them.

You can investigate it if you wish; it looks like it is wearing some sort of pouch around its neck.

"Let's get down there quickly!" Sunlight Under Stone says. "It might still be alive - and it could give us answers! Carpet, down!"

Once they get down to the street:

Sunlight Under Stone jumps off the carpet before it has a chance to settle and races to the lizard. They try to stabilize the creature...

...but can tell they are not having much luck.

"Does anyone have healing magic? Or a rope?" they ask their companions as they continue trying to give the lizard medical attention.

Meanrul whips his scarf off and tugs out a wand at Sunlight's request. He glances over the edge of the carpet, just as the man stabilizes the lizard. "I got something rope like and healing... Though looks like you just need the bindings!" He tosses the long deep green scarf down to the leshy.

The lizard seems beyond the help of anyone except a high-level cleric.

Inside the bag around its neck is finely-crafter copper lantern, wreathed with elemental runes. In addition to the typical oil reservoir, the lantern has a slot where it appears a gemstone would fit.

The item is a keylight lantern. When lit, it gives off light as per a typical lantern, but the shifting flame gives its user a +2 competence bonus on Perception checks to find secret doors. In addition, once per day, the lantern’s bearer can fling the oil as a splash weapon that functions as a flask of acid, except that its damage type is random among acid, cold, electricity, and fire. Each keylight lantern has an indentation where an elemental gem could fit. If an elemental gem is slotted in the lantern, the damage type is fixed based on the gem’s element—acid for an earth gem, cold for a water gem, electricity for an air gem, and fire for a fire gem. The lantern’s bearer may choose to expend the elemental gem to infuse the oil with its energy. If she does so, the next time she throws the oil, it functions as per fireball, centered on the square (10d6 damage, Reflex DC 14 half) instead of as an acid flask. The damage type of the fireball matches the damage type associated with the elemental gem.

Presuming that you folks want to continue on to the Cloister of Winds after this encounter. Let me know if you want to do something different.

Midnight-blue stone walls with numerous shallow alcoves carved into them encircle the Cloister of the Winds. Within these recesses, glass lanterns flicker with firelight, like stars on the night sky. Four towers stand aloft, topped by azure domes decorated with gold painted constellations and twinkling crystals. A gilded gate stands ajar, opening into a courtyard full of herbs and flowers.

As you arrive, a tall azata greets you at the entrance. "Welcome, pilgrims. Do you come in search of knowledge? Feel free to peruse our archives. In his life, Robyyn has never strayed too far from a good library, and this was an impressive one indeed. He immediately becomes absorbed into the stacks, looking for the information they seek. The chamber you find is furnished with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves and several desks. Perhaps what you are searching for is here somewhere?

Perception DC 23:
There is a secret door built into the western wall. When you activate it, it opens into a 10-foot-diameter antechamber with another door and an empty copper hook on the wall next to it. The door appears to be locked, and carved above it, in Auran, is the phrase "Concordance members only past this point."

Clearly, if left to his own devices, Robyyn would happily spend--well, until the end of his days, perhaps--in this vast library. But, Xiao helps narrow his focus, and Sunlight with her companion sharpen his search as well. It seems that they've nearly found what they're looking for?
