”Hmmm ... I have little issues with the first two tasks but to be honest I do not want to hurt a woman that is just doing what she desires ... you believe her wish is a sin because it has to do with the plane of earth. So except her to be unharmed after the third task!“ Toral says with a stern look.
Calvert Calvinson

I suppose I could use a club if you have one . . . I've come to rely on this," he says, holding up the shifting sword of green ectoplasm in his hand.
Sunlight Under Stone
|
Sunlight Under Stone just smiles at Iyasset's offer. "I'll be fine," they say as they casually toss a rock from one hand to the other. "Ready to see this sand creature in person."
"And in regards to the oread," they continue, "all we have been asked to do is remove the oread from the Sandflow. Nobody said anything about killing her, Toral."
They turn though to Iyasset. "I draw power from the plane of earth," they tell her solemnly. "Do you still think me a prophet? Or am I an abomination too?" There is a fierce look in their eyes and a challenge in their voice.
| Iyasset |
Iyasset lets out an undulating whistle that echos over the desert. A few minutes later, a whirlwind appears and drops 6 clubs on the desert floor in front of you before reforming into a vulture-shaped Small air elemental.
Iyasset replies to Sunlight Under Stone:
"Oh, I'm sure the Plane of Earth has its charms--I mean they occasionally have lovely sandstorms there--but why you'd want to turn yourself into an earth elemental is beyond me."
Menarul

Thanks for the bot, I hadn't realized/completely blitzed I still needed to roll something! And sorry about the lack of posts, this weekend was much longer and much crazier than I expected! From Friday morning (when you botted me) to now I spent maybe two hours at home where I wasn't sleeping.[/ooc]
Menarul tries to read over all of the information presented in the hieroglyphs, but given his larger than expected size, he can't really get close enough to see. When Iyasset talks about needing a bludgeoining weapon, the half elf grins slightly pulling out a few flat headed arrows with one hand and tapping the end of his Lucerne hammer with the other. "I should be good. Having a romp in the plane of air would be a great experience! Maybe the sorcerer could be convinced to try her experiment somewhere else where she isn't testing the patience of some air elementals..."
Toral Kargar
|
”Let’s go in! I am eager to test our spiritual self to prove ourselves worthy to be the prophets you seek!“ Toral says.
| GM MattMorris |
Everyone who cares to having armed themselves with blunt weapons, you carry on into the next chamber.
If you folks have a problem with the marching order that I put you in, please just move your token into the space that you would have been in as you entered the next area. You had time to prepare, and you have a good idea of what is coming next.
The stone floor gives way to a track of soft sand that runs from east to west and curves northward in both directions. Thin green vines and bright violet flowers protrude from the sand in various spots. The flowers give off a strong fragrance that leaves the air thick with their pleasant perfume. A skeletal human form, partially obscured by sand, lies to the west, while the roar of violently swirling winds echoes just past a sheer drop to the north.
If you would have made any preparations before entering the next room, please post them. We will start the next area tomorrow afternoon. I'm planning on using block initiative--I don't know how experienced everyone is with it. If you have questions, please feel free to ask in the Discussion thread.

Robyyn uses his wand of mage armor before entering, and casts guidance at the last moment. He looks curious and anxious to see this earth creature that Iyasset so opposes.
I moved Robyyn to where I'd like him to start when initiative kicks in. This assumes that at least one or two more of our martial characters starts in the hallway like Calvert has.
| GM MattMorris |
As Calvert nears the corpse, and the colorful growth of desert flowers that surround it, a bipedal creature formed out of packed sand rises from the floor of the room. A wave of soporific energy seems to flow from the creature as it glares at you menacingly.
Combat Initiated!
If you have not yet adjusted your starting position, you may do so, but please don't go any farther than 5 ft. from the hallway exit into the room.

Meanrul, still enlarged, gives a grumble as he sees how small the entrance to the temple is. "Why do they always make such small entrances to temples? I mean open parts of the place up to the sky so you can watch fireworks!" Still grumbling and complaining, Meanrul squeezes into the entrance of the cave before the effects of the sand man hit him.
Will save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
He then, out of the blue, punches himself in the face.
Confused effect: 1d100 ⇒ 58
Self damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
He'd get hit with the confusion effect while still trying to squeeze into the first square where Toral is standing. First does the confusion effect stop his movement? If it does, I guess he then goes back to exactly where he started.
Sunlight Under Stone
|
Positioned to be in front of Robyyn at start of combat.
Will DC 14: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
As the swirling sands coalesce, Sunlight Under Stone shakes their head as if getting rid of an errant thought. They take a quick step away from the earthen form, then focus on the earth surrounding them. Sand begins to swirl into a lump that suddenly flies at the creature...
Ranged attack, Point-blank shot, Shooting into melee: 1d20 + 5 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (14) + 5 + 1 - 4 = 16
Bludgeoning damage: 1d6 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 5 + 1 = 10
...and Sunlight Under Stone calls out, "Be careful! I don't want to hit you on accident!" to Calvert.
Sunlight Under Stone passes the Will save, takes a 5 ft step north, and fires a kinetic blast at the opponent. This attack is vs regular AC (or perhaps Flat-footed since it hasn't acted yet?). Feel free to ask me about kineticists and how kinetic blasts work - it's taken me a while (and an AP with a kineticist in the hands of an experienced player) to get my head around the class.
Also, if folks are willing to dance a bit, not having anyone engaged in melee with the opponent will help Sunlight Under Stone hit much more frequently.
| GM MattMorris |
Menarul, I'd agree that you'd go back to the last legal square when you become confused.
Calver swings at the sandman, but its swirling form eludes him. Sunlight Under Sun's attack blasts off a piece of the creature, and it hisses exclamations of pain in Terran.

"Wait a precious? What's precious?" He then gives a shake of his head clearing it completely and repeats himself in Terran. ".חכה,קירי ? מה כל כך יקר"
He then tries to squeeze through the hallway again, hoping he doesn't lose control of his mind again.
He stops mid stride te blank look on his face. His eyes then sharped as he looks at the two people right at his feet. "Oh, Erastil Damn! Pixies! Annoying little buggers!" Would leaving its previous square also trigger an AoO from Calvert?
As the creature rises from the sandy floor, Sunlight Under Stone swings with a dagger...
Dagger: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Piercing/Slashing damage: 1d3 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -1
...and also misses. They glare at the elemental before stepping back towards the group and lobbing another mass of sand at it.

Bludgeoning damage: 1d6 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 1 = 11
Sunlight Under Stone takes the AoO, then takes a 5 ft step and throws another kinetic blast at the opponent. I will note that while it is impossible for Sunlight Under Stone to get through the opponent's DR with the dagger, that doesn't mean they won't try. And they were too cocky to take a club, so no dice there.

Cal stows the club, and summons his ectoplasmic blade from his mind.
"I am ready to proceed to the next challenge."
| GM MattMorris |
As you follow the room around to the south, the roar of swirling winds becomes overwhelming at the entrance to a depression. The ground drops away at the entrance, leaving a sheer 30-foot drop. Debris floats through the air, moving in a never-ending dance conducted by extremely localized winds. Chunks of rock, several of human size or larger, hang in midair, openly defying any laws of gravity. A large, sealed treasure chest floats near the center of the debris. Halfway up the northern wall of the depression lies an opening that leads to a tunnel beyond.
Iyasset makes a high-pitched roaring sound that almost matches the noise of the wind and states, “You must retrieve the chest in order to proceed beyond, but enjoy yourself upon this voyage. In this chamber, we are all of air!”
They then fly into the maelstrom, arcs toward the chest, gesturing at meaningfully at you before continuing through the area. The elemental ends their journey at the mouth of the tunnel but does not enter it, instead remaining floating in the air and enjoying the wind.
The chamber is under the effect of subjective directional gravity, and wind swirls around it.
Each round, a you can attempt a DC 12 Will save to “fall” in a chosen direction, effectively changing the direction of gravity for yourself. This movement is controlled as though you were under a feather fall effect, so you can “fall” up to 60 feet in a round. If you succeed at a second DC 12 Will save or Fly check during this movement you can change direction or hover in place.
Instead of traveling by manipulating subjective gravity, you can leap between the large stones suspended in the room. These stones wobble and waver but do not move from their squares. Once on one rock, can attempt a DC 15 Acrobatics check to leap to another stone within 15 feet.
If you can fly, you can move normally through the room.
The chest begins suspended 25 feet in the air in the center
of the chamber, and anyone who ends their movement next to the chest can grab it as a standard action.
Iyasset is helpfully shouting directions at you as navigate the chamber, granting you a +4 bonus on your Will saves.
We need to move through this in rounds, as...things...happen when you fail your check.

Will: 1d20 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 + 4 = 21

Sunlight Under Stone is trying to fall towards the chest, then reverse gravity as they approach so they can hover next to the chest. If they have the standard action available, they'll use it to grab the chest. Otherwise, they'll grab it on their next turn.

"This is fun! I will be flying as I always wished to be able to! I am coming ... " and he jumps trying to manipulate gravity to fall towards the chest!

Toral starts falling and tries to stop right next to the chest.
Will save, bonus +4 : 1d20 + 8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 8 + 4 = 19

Menarul apprehensively glances at the floating debris and subjective gravity before making sure all of the clasps and stays on his small fortune in glasswares are completely closed, in case the gravity were to shift on him and cause them all to fall out. After a few moments, he apprehensively walks out into the gravity field willing the field to pull him to the chest.
Will save, +4 bonus: 1d20 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 2 + 4 = 24
He flies face forward to the chest, his scarf and hair flowing behind him as if he was falling sideways. As he nears the other two around the chest, he sees they have the thing well in hand and decides not to risk staying out in the open and instead tries to change the direction of his fall.
Will save, +4 bonus: 1d20 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 2 + 4 = 16
A little less gracefully Menarul jerks to the side and zooms straight to the other entrance ending up right below where Issayet is floating. "You have the chest, right? I would rather avoid risking breaking any of the glassware on me, lest this place start exploding!"
