Guruthos
Guruthos' eyes flutter open as the strange sensation of positive energy flows through his body. As he sees Thomas standing over him, he panics and rolls away from the possessed man.
acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Coming up in a defensive crouch he pulls his dagger and waits.
Then he remembers what happened, and realized what Thomas had apparently done.
Maybe he is not trying to kill me. He could have done just that. He relaxes, the recalls that the snap of the trip line came from Joriannika's position. Maybe she is trying to kill me. He stares at her for a moment, then shakes his head. I need to get out of here.
"Be more careful." he grumbles in the alchemist's general direction. He turns toward Thomas, and after a pause, gives a slight bow of the head, then begins to climb.
climb: 1d20 ⇒ 10
GM Newsie
The party sees that there are no more traps ready to swing through. Guruthos, having been healed and startled, stands up and, without so much as a 'thank you' makes his way over the barricades. Everyone else follows in suit, entering the cave beyond. This large cave appears to have been recently scratched from the hard-packed earth, and its ceiling is only five feet high. Several tons of debris fill the western portion of the cave. What appears to be the body of a man lies half buried under the rubble near the north end of the cave.
What do you do?
Guruthos
Hey, We're talking an emotionally and socially-stunted individual here. G gave a "slight bow of the head." That's a big thing, especially towards someone he knows to be possessed. :P
Very weary of traps at this point, Guruthos checks the area, and waits for the others to check before proceeding.
trapception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Thomas 'Bellmanok' Riverdancer
Thomas who was quite tall, had to bow to move forwards. "Anyone else thinks that maybe the kobolds made this entrance?"
He move to the body and inspected it.
GM Newsie
Guruthos scans this much larger cave. It's definitely not part of the dungeons you've been searching through all morning. You are keenly aware that this area isn't some secret place designed to keep others out. You suspect the barricade traps were hastily built as a defense against the ghoul in that treasury chamber. But for as far as you can see, you don't see any signs of tampering.
Thomas, the body is indeed male and definitely dead. He is a white-haired, balding human clad in, now-tattered, finery, crushed by fallen stone and earth. The only item of note on his person is a key ring that
contains two keys: one seems to be rather standard and common looking; the other is made of brass.
Any character knowledgeable in engineering who moves to examine the entire collapse area can make this check:
Thomas 'Bellmanok' Riverdancer
That's because Guruthos can't see very well through the tiny slits of his mask.
"Look Hanzo. THAT is probably the old wizard."
Guruthos
Guruthos glares at Thomas a lot, or so Thomas thinks. He can't tell because of the tiny slits of the mask.
Guruthos picks up the keys and looks over them. He holds up the standard key. "House," he grumbles. Then examines the brass key and shrugs.
GM Newsie
Botting
Joriannika and Hanzo enter the low-ceilinged cavern too.
Hanzo steps beyond where Thomas and Guruthos are looking at the human corpse and finds two kobold corpses among the rubble, each one holding a spade.
Joriannika inspects the whole of the collapse area.

Surprise round
An arrow flies out of the darkness, slamming into Hanzo who was not ready or expecting an attack.
Attack (Deadly Aim): 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (4) + 8 + 2 + 1 - 1 = 14 Favored enemy, point-blank shot

He does not fall over, amazingly, but the arrow is deep and he seems to be on the verge of unconsciousness. Guruthos and Thomas look up and see Hanzo with the arrow embedded in his chest and two kobolds, one approaching with a spear, and one further in the shadows, holding a bow. Joriannika sees a kobold approaching her menacingly, also holding a spear.
(Hanzo, you are now disabled. | GM Newsie |
Sure thing. :) Updated! As I stated at the start of the campaign, I'd like players to be responsible for ensuring their hp is accurate and up-to-date on the tracker and their headers. I handle a lot of the decrements from damage, but players should take care of increments from healing, leveling, spells, etc.
Thomas gets between Hanzo and the approaching attackers, thrusting his spear... but mostly just to keep the creature at bay. In any case, he didn't hit it.
Guruthos may act.
The dotted lines will provide cover / concealment. So yes you could drag Hanzo behind the collapse area.
Also, Hanzo, I forgot about your 1 point of non lethal damage...but I don't really want to change what I already said. So, you're still at 0 hp, still disabled, but I'm wiping away that nonlethal damage point because I can. Hopefully everyone is okay with this abuse of power, seeing as it helps rather than hurts, kinda.

Kobolds' turn
The kobold attacking from range nocks another arrow, aiming for the one shouting in a blood-chilling tongue.
Attack: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 8 + 2 + 1 = 15 (Favored enemy, point-blank)
Damage: 1d4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 1 = 5 (favored enemy, point-blank)
The arrow just narrowly misses Thomas, hitting the hard earthen cavern wall somewhere behind him.
The blue scaled kobold takes a quick step to close the gap (5ft step) between it and the human and thrusting its spear at him. All the while speaking almost whimsically in a foreign tongue:
"Prerja e thikave, bëjnë bosi i lumtur
Njeriu i pistë është i butë dhe i butë!"
"Stabby! Stabby!
Make boss happy!
Filthy human
soft and flabby!"
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16 Hit!
Damage: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
The eager reptile makes contact, stabbing into the pit of Thomas' arm for 2pts of damage, leaving an open wound behind.

Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17 Hit!
Damage: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3
It catches her side, making a long, deep cut through her fabric, from the edge of her abdomen and around her side for 3pts of damage. The odd sound that erupts from the creatures snout can only be described as a laugh, for that seemed to be the intent, though the shape and feel of it was a far cry from what Jori's understanding of a laugh is. She certainly wasn't laughing.

"I'd thought about getting a piercing... this really wasn't what I had in mind..."

Well, there aren't any goblins here, but sure the kobold provided soft cover on the archer's last attack.
Thomas thrust his long spear at the small creature, who rasped in agony before slumping to the ground, unmoving, but still breathing rapid, shallow breaths.
The blue kobold is unconscious and dying.
Guruthos takes his shot just a loose rock shifts underneath him, skewing his aim. The arrow ricochets off the low ceiling and clatters onto the ground.
Sesserak's and other Kobolds' turns!
Unconscious kobold is no longer providing soft cover. ;)
The ranged kobold wastes no time in nocking another arrow and, with deadly aim, letting it fly at Thomas.

dmg: 1d6 ⇒ 5

Attacked from multiple fronts and looking very worried now, the kobold captain takes a quick step away from the roguish foes, eyes focused on Joriannika. The human had caused her the most pain thus far and therefore must be their leader. As she steps (5ft. step) she nocks an arrow to shoot Joriannika at super-close-range (but also triggers an AoO from Jori!)
Attack: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 8 + 2 + 1 = 15 (f. e., pnt-blnk shot)
Damage: 1d4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 1 = 4 (f. e., pnt-blnk shot)
But her arrow misses and smacks into the rubble behind Jori.
Bold can act:
Thomas, Guruthos // Sesserak // Joriannika, Hanzo

To clarify, anyone listed in bold can act in any order. So, Hanzo could totally act before Joriannika when their turns are up. Guruthos and can take his turn before Thomas or vice versa.

1. do we still have a light source? Otherwise I need cast one. 2. Where did they go? I can't see them on the map
Joriannika
Ah, I get it. Thanks, GM!
Joriannika jabbed her rapier at the moving kobold!
rapier + flank (since AOOs precede the triggering action): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
dmg: 1d6 ⇒ 5
confirm: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 Aww.
dmg: 1d6 ⇒ 2
"Take that, you nasty little lizard!" she crowed in Draconic, having just managed to avoid the arrow.
Guruthos
Guruthos hears the wings of the raven beating behind his head like a drum beat, but now they have renewed his fury. He steps around Joriannika and thrusts his blade at the now-cornered kobold.
AOO Dagger: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
dmg: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
But the anger driving him is too much. He loses focus and his dagger skips harmlessly off the kobold's armor.
