"That's not even the best new thing I picked up!" Tresca says excitedly to Grim. Pulling out a shiny new wand, she waggles it at her giant of a friend, "I did a little bit of sweet talking, and our superiors agreed that a 14 foot tall Grim would be good for all of Andoran. Whaddya think?" Picking up the message addressed to the Andorans, she skims the message briefly before passing it along to Grim and Odo.

With a nod to Nefti's request to get moving, Tresca turns her attention to the two newest members of the team. With a slight bow, she introduces herself. "I'm Tresca Versei, our team's alchemist. My specialty is bombs, so I tend to provide ranged support for the front line fighters. I can do some healing in a pinch, as well. How about yourselves?"

Question for the new players:
Tresca fights using bombs, which have a splash radius that deals 5-6 damage depending on how close she is. I've got a class feature that lets me designate certain squares as safe from splash damage, but if I miss, there's a chance that splash damage will end up hitting you. Do you prefer to have me designate your square as safe, and take a risk? Or do you prefer me to not throw a bomb if there's any chance of damage?

(Odo and Grim, are you still cool with me going ahead and throwing?)

Logain does a slight nod of the head and proudly presents him self.
"My name is Logain Xanatus my dear, and I am a magus extraordinaire."
He looks at his black blade in concentration for a mere moment, a frown on his face, before continuing in a dismissive voice
"And this is Xanxus black blade extraordinaire, my...associate..."

He continues in a normal voice explaining
"My skills lie in the combination of magics and fine swordsmanship. However, magics require a certain freedom to move in so I am more lightly armored then our companions. I spring in and out of the action delivering mighty blows, why it was only yesterday when my group was chasing a bunch of Derro that I killed an Otyugh with a single well placed slice of the sword. Furthermore, I am quite adapt at intimidating my enemies in combination with a certain spell that also leaves them entangles in rimes of frost. I also have some healing available, but it is mostly during downtime and it has certain temporary side effects paladins and some good clerics do not appreciate."

Healing = infernal healing. @Tresca You can toss em about and designate my square as safe. Butt toss ahead. Missing touch is pretty hard unless against things with a high dex like swarms could be.

Today, I learned that splash weapons like my bombs are a ranged touch attack. Didn't read the rules carefully enough on my first time round, and now I like my choice of class even more!

"Dozens of Derro and Cultists! I haven't had a chance to study either of them. This could be quite informative." She scribbles furiously, then continues to write as people start introducing themselves, eventually realizing everyone has done so, she pauses and looks up from the book, almost startled.

"Oh, yes...me. I guess you should know who I am. My name is Oronia Cuprianas. I am a seeker of knowledge of raider of dungeons. I have some skill in opening doors and disabling traps and for some reason, my touch seems to relieve pain. Irori only knows why," she says with a shrug as she reaches over to pet a small thrush that is sitting on her shoulder. "Or perhaps this fellow does, he seems to follow me around, too."

Tanselle nods in acknowledgement to the new members of the party, the pistol hanging from one hip and golden symbol of Abadar hanging from the other telling them all they need to know about the half-elf.

"At least the vermin had the manners to come to us above ground this time around, eh?" Tanselle says to her familiar companions. "Nice armor, by the way, Tresca. If they're tearing up the prison, we ought to get moving."

Tanselle is a gunslinger-first, cleric-second. Ranged damage with a smidge of healing. And she takes a while to warm up to new people - she, Tresca, Grim, and Odo have history at this point.

Odo, a halfling in a breast plate with scimitars at his sides, chimes in with introductions to the two new team members. "I am Odo, I follow a calling to justice and redemption, backed up, of course, with the force of arms. Sarenrae is my light and my shield."

He nods at Grim's assessment of Tresca's new armor. "It is a beautiful suit of armor, Tresca. I too have an eye for getting my hands on mithral armor, but I fear the cost of heavier armor than a chain shirt will be too dear for some time yet. Be sure to let me know how it wears. I will be interested to hear your experiences."

And Odo is fine with Tresca firing off bombs as needed. If I'm in the way, that's my own fault (and I have the healing powers to compensate).

Also for our new companions, as a reminder to old comrades, I have the Lucky Halfling feat which means I can roll a save for someone else once a day. If things are looking dire and the die of destiny gives you a sure failure, let me know if you want me to try to save the save. I have to be kind of careful since it is only once/day, but there's also no point in saving it so long it never gets used...


Nefti leads the way as you set off on your mission, his eyes always moving as you make your way through the streets of Old Cassomir.

Tresca and Tanselle had already heard some whispering about how things went down at Swift Prison earlier that morning. Seems the rat plague came from the sewers under Cassomir. Some folks were even saying the Nature’s Cataclysm druids sent the rats as the city’s punishment for greedily taking too much blackwood for their ship building industries.

Oronia manages to confirm this through a few quick interviews along the way. She also churns up some further information on the bell;
A former prisoner of the Swift skilled in magic swears the bell strongly radiates arcane power from the school of enchantment. He mentions the quieting effect of the bell, confirming Themis' statement.
He also speaks of a bell dating back to the time of old Azlant is rumored to make those who hear its clear ring susceptible to suggestion.
"Perhaps they are one and the same, eh?" He suggests, clearly pleased to have held a young woman's attention for so long.

You approach the Swift from the north and about a block from the gates, Nefti motions you to gather in the shadows to hear him speak.
"This is as far as I go, friends. The derro herded the prisoners into the main keep. They must have broken through into the Keep's basement levels from the old Ismacco tunnels. Deep below the keep, within the sewers, the derros are marching the guards and prisoners into the depths of Golarion, but it will be slow going. Be careful, several of those Nature’s Cataclysm freaks still roam the Swift’s grounds.”

He kneels down on the ground and scratches a rudimentary map in the dust and then taps the nortwest corner with a grubby finger.
"There is a path between trees and small buildings that will provide good cover as you work your way in. Travel along the west side to reach the Keep and once inside, then just keep heading down. Good luck."

I have an alchemist as well and he is so very awesome. Not a bomber like you, but a switch hitter grenadier, he is scary in melee. So much variety and using craft alchemy for many cheaper items is fun We once oblitterated a mythic creature because we kept greasing his axe and entangling him with simple tanglefoot burns. He had not other weapons so he was so very sad and had to provoke each round from 3 fighters around him to pick up his greased axe. A friend of mine has a high level one focussing on bombs and with fast bombs discovery he is just so immensly deadly with his high intelligence.

"Hmm more of those idiot fanatics. Oh well, lets make quick work of them. Thanks for the help Nefti, unless you have some more information about the interiour you can run along home."

Grim looks at his team and does a quick tactical assessment of the newcomers. "Ok - I propose that Odo and I stay in the front, with Logain and Oronia next followed by T&T. Tresca packs a powerful long-range punch, and Tanselle is a skilled marksman with those pistols. Me - I'm just good at breaking things and killing creatures..." he says with a grin.

Grim looks at the lady as she touches him and frowns. "What was that? Normally one asks before doing something to another...unless they are saving my giant rear-end. I'm not opposed to magic or your aid - just want to know beforehand. Like Tresca. She at least let me know before turning me into a 14 foot giant with a 10 foot sword. Which, by the way, is gonna be EPIC!"

Odo looks at Oronia. "Then you are brave, indeed, to venture out into danger with such confusion. And speaking of danger, Tanselle is right. We had best move out."

Odo draws his scimitar and starts along the path between the trees and the buildings. He treads with some care to not create too much noise in his armor. And, truth to tell, despite his metal armor, he steps along making barely a sound.

"You do know we have to safe those people. The longer it takes the higher the chance of the Derro's dragging them to their homes. Could you walk a little faster?"

Grim knows better than to attempt stealth, so he waits for the others to cross and then moves at a combat walk through the bushes and shadows, avoiding easy visual contact without moving too fast and making noise. He will keep an eye out for spotters as the others cross.

Nefti ducks his head in acknowledgement and gives you a farewell salute as he slips away down an alley, soon lost to your sight in the shadowy lane.

You move on the prison following Nefti's suggested route and the slippery fellow's advice proves quite helpful as the narrow path and foliage do indeed aid your attempts at stealth. The wind blows toward the northwest, thankfully placing you downwind. You hear the harsh sounds of battle ringing out on the distant eastern side grow louder as you approach Debtors Lane and pause to listen before moving ahead.

Everyone, save Logain, picks up on the sound of a low voice mumbling a curse-filled prayer not far around the corner. About that moment, Grimaldus comes jogging up and the resultant racket draws shouts of alarm and many telltale shrieks of several angry dire rats and you know your presence has been detected!

Terrible initiative roll! I'll wait to see what the enemies do before I decide what to do. I leave on Saturday for my trip, and won't likely be able to access the internet much for the first half week to week, but I'll leave behind tactics/dice blocks so that the team can puppet me as needed.

If the melee fighters can block the alley so that the enemy can't get out, a bomb would be particularly effective on them all clustered like that.

Odo doesn't hesitate at Grimaldus's words but rushes into action. Lowering his head and raising his shield, Odo charges into place, taking a swipe at the rat in his way as he does so.

Since Odo isn't sure of exactly what's going on with these men and the rats, he's going to attack the rat which seems the more unambiguous threat at the moment.

Tanselle dashes out from cover behind her more armored companions, plugging an alchemical cartridge into her pistol as she goes. She lines up her shot and fires around Grimaldus at the closest of the evil druids.

"Grim, look out!" she calls out as she pulls the trigger.

By now the fighter is old hat at dodging her bullets in traffic.

Logain's spell takes down both rats, but only one of the men targeted. (Black bordered druid(#3) and Red and Orange Rats are unconscious for 3 rounds, blinded and stunned for 2 and then stunned for 1)

The first druid raised his club and swings at Grimaldus, but the club rebounds off his armor. The second druid steps over his unconscious pet and has better luck connecting with the halfling as Odo takes a ringing blow. Odo takes 6 damage.
With a guttural command, the rats climb the walls of the buildings beside them, moving toward you. Only two manage to reach Odo, but they fail to get ahold of him.
The fourth druid steps over his unconscious brother and begins casting, a moment later the grass and weeds spring to life and begin to coil around your ankles to hold you in place. Even the tree branches reach down to wrap around you. Grimaldus and Logain manage to jerk aside before they are caught up, but the others struggle against their verdant bonds.
Tanselle, Odo, and Oronia are Entangled. An entangled creature moves at half speed, cannot run or charge, and takes a –2 penalty on all attack rolls and a –4 penalty to Dexterity. An entangled character who attempts to cast a spell must make a concentration check (DC 15 + spell level) or lose the spell.
The green circle is the area of effect, so Tresca is currently outside it. Creatures that make their save can move as normal, but those that remain in the area must save again at the end of your turn. Creatures that move into the area must save immediately. Those that fail must end their movement and gain the entangled condition. Entangled creatures can attempt to break free as a move action, making a Strength or Escape Artist check. The DC for this check is equal to the DC of the spell. The entire area of effect is considered difficult terrain while the effect lasts.

Tanselle initially strains to pull herself free of the entangling vines before deciding application of her natural grace would be a more appropriate approach to escape.

Tresca's bomb strikes with maximum effect, killing off the larger (orange) rat and two smaller rats(purple and magenta) which were caught in the splash zone. The conscious druids try to step back from the blast, but fail to get out of the way in time.

Grimaldus strikes the weakened druid, slicing down to bone before the man falls like a ton of bricks. Odo slashes with his scimitar at the druid in front of him and drops the man to his knees, where he crumples the rest of the way.

The last druid standing takes a mighty swing at the giant, but only manages to dent Grim's armor. The rats, seeing the last of their human masters threatened, converge on the paladin and fighter snapping their yellow teeth, but fail to catch hold of flesh.

Seeing the first rats fall, Tresca digs out another bomb and prepares to throw again. "Fire in the hole, Grim!" she shouts, knowing that with warning and a careful toss, the big fighter would be reasonably safe.

if I read my miss rules correctly, the bomb lands 1 square west of the cyan rat, dealing splash damage to it and the blue one.

Yes, I generally leave the damage off if it's a miss, but I've been quoting my last post to save time on formatting, so I left it in place just so I wouldn't have to look it up again. No damage taken.

Tresca and Tanselle have bad luck with their shots, but Grimaldus continues to hack his way down the alley. He swings down on the druid and slices deep through flesh and bone, utterly destroying the man.

Logain misses his target, but Odo lays waste to yet another rat.
The unconscious druid begins to stir, as do the two rats. (red and orange) Still blinded and stunned from Logain's spell they wriggle out from under your feet.

The other rats snap and hiss, but they do not manage to bite anyone.

Logain is not beside the stunned druid (he has a black border), also stunned and blinded do not constitute helpless. Still need actions from half the party, hopefully they will check in soon.
