Watching the surrounding burial niches for any signs of movement, Grim moves forward towards the cage with the slaves. "I'm going to free those slaves," he says softly to the others, "cover me." With that he approaches the slaves and gives a 'Silence' signal so they will not make any noise. Once at the cage, he will examine the cage and the lock, wishing Raul were still with them. If he sees no other option, the giant will use his greatsword and shattering strike to break open the lock.

"Hold a moment" the alchemist cautions in a low whisper as she notices Grim eyeing his sword. That would be louder than she'd want it to be. Pulling thieves' tools from her bag, she gives a proud little smile and adds, "I'm no Raul, but I'm certainly quieter than that sword"

Not finding any evil as yet, Odo moves from the center of the room to follow Grimaldus. "Gods Above, this place is enormous," Odo remarks quietly.
He moves to the pair of slaves in an effort to keep them calm and quiet - and try to learn some information.
"We are going to get you out of this cage and back to safety but we are trying to do so quietly and require your help. Do you know where your tormentors are?" Odo whispers to the slaves.

They are free citizens of Cassomir that have been abducted and forced into slavery by the cultists and derro. Tresca, freeing them will have to wait, but we'll bank that roll.
One of the slaves in the cage catches sight of your approach and quickly waves his hands before him shaking his head no. He jerks his head directly in front of him, and before you can really understand his meaning, you hear a gruff female voice grumble.
"What are you looking at slave? Still looking for that skelly that took a swipe at you?" You hear the shuffle of approaching boots and prepare to meet their owner. No one used stealth, so we'll forget the surprise round.

Tresca mutters a few choice curse words under her breath as their group is spotted. They had forgotten to post a lookout. Why had had they forgotten to post a lookout? Wasting no time, Tresca slips a hand into her alchemist's pouch and pulls out a bomb.
Standard Action: Throw Bomb, Move Action: Move 10ft
Target marked with a yellow X on map, splash zone marked with a dotted yellow box. Tresca is going to use a precise bomb. If the bomb hits, she can designate up to 4 squares in the 5 foot splash range as "safe" from splash damage. Safe squares have been marked with green diamonds.
bomb - to hit (point blank): 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 5 + 1 = 26

bomb - to damage (point blank): 1d6 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 1 = 10

splash damage: 6 points (I don't think critical hits apply to splash damage?)
reflex save DC 15 for half damage on splash
Perhaps she had been a bit heavy-handed with the saltpeter when she mixed this particular batch of explosives? The half-elf's sensitive ears are left ringing from the concussive force of the bomb as she ducks out of the way, retreating behind some of the tougher members of the party.

Seeing Tresca digging through her vials, Tanselle waits until she tosses her bomb before leaping into action. Once the alchemist unleashes, she dashes by Odo and in front of Tresca, drawing her pistol as she goes. Loading a cartridge, she fires a shot at the half-orc directly in front of her.

Tresca's bomb goes off with a deafening crack and the half-orc female crumbles bonelessly where she stands. The other two look substantially damaged by the blast. Grimaldus only just strikes his target, but the sword rips through his flesh, and he sinks into a massive puddle of his own blood. Odo navigates the rubble quickly and carefully and strikes his target from higher ground, sending him down as well.
Combat Over! In fact, I'm not sure we should count those spells as spent since the casters went later in the round.
Tresca quickly makes short work of the heavy lock on the slave cage and releases two more panicked Cassomir citizens from the bonds of the Cult.
"Oh thank you! I knew we could not lose hope. You will take us out of here? Please! You must! That monstrous creature below takes more and more of us each day!"

![]() |

Grimaldus examines the bodies of their foes for information and other useful items. His attention is drawn by the slaves comment about a monstrous creature, though. "What can you tell us of the creature? The more we know the better chance we have of destroying it. Also, what can you tell us of the areas beyond this crypt? Traps? Hidden areas? Anything you can recall will be useful."
I love a good overkill combat!! At least, when we're the ones killin' it =D

Tanselle will help remove the shackles from the citizens' wrists.
"Please tell us what you know of this place and the creature of which you speak so that we may ensure no others befall your fate," she says.

"That was a peach of a throw, Tresca. Remind me to stay on your good side." Odo jokes with a smile.
But, mindful of security and the impressive noise of Tresca's bomb, Odo turns to more serious matters and moves to the top of the stairs to watch for any further threats from that direction.

It's a bit of a trek to get them back to the surface at this point. But we understand the nature of modules, the final boss will still be waiting until you come back. Take them back up or keep them with you, up to you!
The woman of the pair clutches at Grimaldus as she describes the monster, her eyes unfocused as she recounts the horror of her memory.
"T'is a terrible thing, like one of these mummified bodies, except it's up and walking around and shouting orders. It's got terrible teeth and... and... I think it's been eating the people they bring down to it. We never see them again, but a fresh, bloody skeleton is added to their ranks soon after!"
Her companion pats her back as he describes the layout. "It's a long narrow hall of burial niches that doubles back on itself before leading to a chamber 15 feet wide. That's where they stay. I'm sorry, I'm not aware of any traps or hidden passages."

Ka looks over the bodies in the sarcophagi and has to open several before he finds a suitable specimen. Tanselle notices as he passed one over that a gleaming scimitar lay next to the body.

![]() |

"Do not close that just yet," Tanselle says, stepping toward an open sarcophagus. "Look - just there."
She points out a gleaming scimitar.
"Could be of use against whatever else we might come up against in this accursed place," she continues. "I'd gladly wield it, but would prefer one of you magic-types check it out first. Hate to think it was some kind of cruel trick ..."
I'd actually prefer to continue using my pistol - it is kind of central to my class and concept, but I would be willing to step into a melee role if the scimitar has some game-changing magical quality.

The scimitar is of masterwork quality, but it bears no magical auras. It does appear to have a name engraved on the hilt;

Tresca gives Odo a grin at his acknowledgement as she re-shoulders her bag. "Thanks, Odo. Keep up the compliments, and you're sure to stay on my good side!"
Following the others, Tresca raises an eyebrow at the scimitar. For the life of her, she would never ever understand these melee types. "You're welcome to the sword. I prefer poking my enemies from a distance" the alchemist says, patting her trusty crossbow as she falls in towards the back of the group.

![]() |

Maedhros looks bored, running his whetstone over the blade of his spear as the others examine sarcophagi and scimitars.
I take it that I can consider the spell not expended since the baddies were taken out so fast?

![]() |

Odo falls into step behind Grimaldus as he heads down the stairs, his own scimitar at the ready. His head virtually swims with the anticipation of confronting evil. He mutters a quick prayer under his breath, "Dawnflower, light my path and guide my blade. Bring light to darkness. "

bluedove |

Yes, it seems likely to me that Maedhros would not have cast Grease with only one enemy still standing, so you can take back the spell. Right before I updated Beta last night, I busted the screen on my laptop. =( I'll get your new map up later after I re-download the pdf, etc.

You descend the steps into the Undercrypt below and find yourselves in a narrow passageway surrounded by countless ornate burial niches which adorn the passage walls. The quiet hangs over this place like a death shroud. In the passage’s southwest corner, shattered niches reveal a massive set of iron double doors. An image carved on the doors depicts a dispassionate figure holding a gibbous moon.
Map is updated, decide on your order and make any preparations, once you are ready to breach the door I will remove the blind and roll initiative. Based on the distance you traveled and the sound catching properties of the stonework, you seriously doubt the sound of your combat traveled far enough to be overheard.

![]() |

"Grim, Odo, I assume you'll take the lead as usual," Tanselle states, citing a few dozen fights as reference. "Once you're through the doors, I'll go next and cover you."
The gunslinger plugs a cartridge into her pistol and gives it one last check before glancing Tresca's way.
"That is unless our mad bomber here doesn't want to try and repeat her last, masterful performance," Tanselle says with something as close to a smile as the stoic half-elf could ever muster.
Tresca, you my only friend. Other than my gun. And justice.

![]() |

"I will take point. Odo, you should come next and be ready to shine your god's favor! Ka, T&T and Maedhros come in as you can. This may be it, folks - let's end this threat now!" Grim keeps his greatsword ready and moves to the door, ready to open it when the party is lined up.

![]() |

"Locked and loaded, as always, Grim," Tanselle says, stepping close behind the fighter. "Give me but a moment to check the door, though. Who knows what treachery these Groetus vermin could have planted here."
The gunslinger, pistol in hand, crouches beside the door and gives it a good once over for traps.
Tanselle will take 20 for a total of 31 on her Perception check to look for traps.

![]() |

Odo slips into place behind Grimaldus but yields enough space for Tanselle to examine the door ahead. He holds his wayfinder to offer her a bit of hands-free illumination.
Once she is finished and once everyone is in place for Grim to open the door (assuming all hell hasn't broken loose yet), Odo will use his wand of bless weapon on his scimitar before the door opens.
By the way, everyone, I do have the Lucky Halfling feat. I thought I'd mention it since we are probably coming up to a fight. Once a day, if you blow a save within 30 feet of me, I can reroll it for you with my bonuses (F+8,R+5,W+8) but we have to invoke it before the GM rules it's a success or failure. So, if you think you're blowing a save with a 1 against a nasty spell effect or mummy rot or such things, let me know.

Ka taps the Lucky Halfling's shoulder, granting him a Bit of Luck so he can also enjoy the benefits of some luck. "Desna blesses us all this day!"

Tanselle gives the nod that she can find no trap on the door and once Grimaldus hears the go ahead, he opens the door revealing the room beyond. A purple glow washes over this cold chamber, creating an otherworldly sheen. A large desk adorns the south wall; behind it's oaken bulk hangs a large map of Cassomir. Straw-lined cages line the chamber’s east and west walls. In the center of the room, resting on a small pedestal, a black rock absorbs the chamber’s bright torch light.
Behind the great desk waits a terribly familiar figure, Dalirio Teppish, his features twisted in undeath into a predatory snarl. He locks eyes on the intruders. Eyes filled with a malevolent intelligence and hateful recognition.
"You! I hoped it would be you. Look upon my transformation and tremble, dogs of Cassomir! Behold, my love! Our vengeance is at hand."
Dalirio extends a twisted claw and the skeletons respond by turning in that direction. One of them wears a tattered bridal veil, tacked directly to it's bare skull.

Tresca ditches her bag near the door, and pulls out her wand of shield. In a tone of mock offence, she exclaims "Mad? I'm not mad. More like... eccentric?" Tresca wasn't sure if that was actually any better. But it sounded classier, at least. "In any case, if they start to bottleneck at the door, you all may want to cover your ears."
As soon as Tanselle indicates that they are ready to breach the door, the 'mad bomber' gives her wand a wave and a glowing shield floats in front of her. She nods to the others, indicating that she's ready for battle.
Question for everybody:
This level, I got to take a discovery, and I took 'Precise Bombs'. It lets me designate up to 4 squares as safe from the splash zone when I chuck a bomb. But, if I miss with the bomb, the squares are no longer safe, and there's a chance (depending on where the bomb ends up landing) that you could be hit with splash damage (5 points of damage, or 6 if Tresca throws point blank. It's a flat rate, so no worries about Tresca pulling another 21 damage hit)
Are people comfortable with me using the bombs to hit groups of enemies in melee with our group? Or would we rather not risk the chance of splash damage?

With a look of disgust, Tresca sets eyes on Dalirio. The sooner they could finish it, the better. "Oh, I'm trembling all right." Tresca responds, revealing a shaking hand mixing a bomb. It was a bit of a stretch, but worth a shot! Winding up, she throws as hard as she can at their enemy.

5 means it overshoots and hits the wall behind Dalirio, I think? Not sure if that means I luck out with some splash damage or not, if so, it would be 5 damage.
Underestimating her own strength, Tresca's bomb sails well over the heads of the undead, exploding on the wall behind them.
