Liberty's Edge

I know. If I keep this up I may be looking at multiple new characters for this campaign. And it was hard enough coming up with the last one!

I'm tempted to go back and make a tally of all of the rolls I've made with this character to see just how badly I've done.

Edit: Ok, I went and did the calculations for all of the d20 rolls I've made on this character in this campaign. Including all skill checks, etc, I've averaged 9.15. A little on the low side but not too bad.

However, if we go back to the beginning of this battle, my average drops down to 7.19. That's REALLY low. I also realized that I had 3 natural ones (just for the d20's) in a row.

Also, I've only ever rolled one natural 20 and I've rolled 4 1's. Ugh.

2nd Edit:
The interesting thing is that it only seems to be the d20 that I'm having such a hard time with. My d6 rolls average 3.37, my D4 is 2.67, and my d100 is 65. So if I could just HIT the darn things, I'd be doing decent damage most of the time.

3rd Edit:
For you statistics gurus, the d20 median is 8, and the mode is a tie between 1 and 18. However, if we just use this battle, my median becomes 6 and the mode 1.

This battle has really not gone well for me. See? And you wondered what all that math in high school would be good for.

King of Talingarde

Sorry I haven't managed to get things moving, but this holiday has been busier than I thought. Managed a few small posts here and there, but might not get combat pushed ahead until Monday. Just giving a heads up.

King of Talingarde

Good news!! I'm about to update my games.

Bad news!! If anyone is interested though, my brother decided to prove that a person can fall off a roof and land on their head, on concrete, and survive it. So I figured that was probably a 6 on the 1d6 roll for him, and he's got some decent HP for a first level character.

He is fine, discharged from the hospital and everything. Gave us all a pretty good scare, and he's gonna be in pain for awhile. And I can't smack him in the back of the head for doing stupid stuff for awhile too. Nice to be able to laugh about it now, could have been way worse.

Not in use

Ouch? - at least when I jumped off the roof as a kid I had the decency to jump onto the trampoline.... didn't know much about physics at that age...

King of Talingarde

Doing the update in phases, FYI.

King of Talingarde

Internet just went out. Have post saved, will try to get up if it comes back up tonight. Otherwise in the am. I apologize.

My gosh! Seriously? Dannnnng. I cannot imagine such a scene to where something like that ends on a positive note. Glad to hear your bro is doing okay. Scary.

Man that truly amazes me.

Is it possible for Morthos to reach the Triton in P 11 with his sword?

King of Talingarde

It is indeed possible, though he is in the process of bleeding out at present. Unless you had something else in mind...

If he's at 0 hp, it'll still take one more hit to kill him -- that or forcing him into taking a standard action so he drops himself below 0.

T5 up in P8 should be marked as Evil-Eyed as well, I believe: -2 to attack rolls. You had it in the narration but don't have him marked on the map.

Good eye, thought I had caught everything. T3 is indeed at 0, not dying yet.

Added tag to T5.

Alazandaru has the disabled one threatened anyway, not that anyone is aware of it...

Christmas time is my busy time of the year. Until after it's over, my posting is gonna be hit and miss during the work week. Just fyi. Will try to keep up as best as possible but if not, DMPC me as needed.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Was going to remark that Bostarg's needle didn't seem so ineffectual to Tatya ... but there is literally no way to say that that doesn't sound dirty.

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

@KM: Is the 'hunting' party different from the party Bostarg is joining. Or we all going together. It kinda sounds like it's two different parties but I thought I'd ask just to be sure. Because I'm just flat out not, to be honest. :)

King of Talingarde

About to clarify (and post). It's two different parties. Well, three technically.

Party 1 - Water gathering
Party 2 - Boat guarding (to be reinforced by party 1 after water is gathered)
Party 3 - Seal hunting

Not in use

Bostarg is basically going with the water gatherers for a bit of fun. Stir up some discontent with the Captain, sow some thoughts, and also make sure that, you know, they actually collect water.

Ah, okay, I was thinking the water-gatherers and the seal-hunters were the same group.

Liberty's Edge

I hope you don't mind me sharing this here, but it was actually a conversation in this thread about alignment that got me thinking and inspired me to do this. I'm working on alternate alignment rules and wouldn't mind feedback or help in putting this together.

King of Talingarde

I'll put up another post in abit. Kinda sick atm (again) and my head is fuzzy. Going to lay down, hope it clears up.

Not in use

In roughly twelve hours I will willingly subject myself to an eight hour period of physical exertion, sleep deprivation and general sanity slippage.... that is to say I'm flying down to Australia with two kids on a red eye. I shall be doing the christmas thing, familial visitation thing and even attending a ten year University re-union... which should be interesting to say the least.

That will mean that I shall not be my usual self when it comes to internet connectivity and PbP response. I should still get online here and there, but it's unlikely to be every day - and even when I do time will be short so you will have to endure a lesser amount of my usual sesquipedalian loquaciousness. If at any time you feel I'm holding things up, feel free to DMPC... or you know have Bostarg plant latent thoughts of manly love between Kargeld's sailors and their captain.

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, Krazy Kwanzaa or even Positive Emotion Non-Religious Holiday Vacation Day... depending upon your own predisposed proclivities. I look forward to further electronically shared adventures in the post-Mayan calendar New Year.

King of Talingarde

Wow, Xmas is over! Gotta say this has been a draining one for me. Hope everyone had a good holiday season (for those who celebrate).

Looking over my PBPs this morning, I realize it's been a bigger interruption than I thought it would be. So going through and apologizing to all my games for the somewhat unexplained absence and getting updates in as applicable.

Looking at where we're at, just checking to see if people are ready to move on or would like to continue speaking with the Yutak. I can move it on ahead if people wish.

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Hope all you folks had a Merry Christmas!

No worries, KM, all of my threads have been dead over the past few days. Pretty standard this time of year.

King of Talingarde

I put up a map of Talingarde on the campaign tab, to show where these locations are if that helps. Let me know what you think. You all should be able to add anything you feel might be necessary.

Nice map! I see Branderscar; I presume the Cardinal's HQ is somewhere nearby down there? (I don't really recall how far the escapees had to go to get there.) And that river at Ghastenhall is the Taiga we just came up?

King of Talingarde

I'll mark the river when I get home. The Bugbear encampment is on the north side of the lake (I put the words by it when I put the map up).

As far as the Cardinal's Mansion, if I recall correctly it's about an hour away from Branderscar, but I'll have to check when I get home to make sure.

The maps are nice. Thus far there's been two in each book of the AP. The first kind of depicts how things are at the beginning, the other at the end. With noticeable things marked. I'll be trying to keep it updated, repalcing the base map with the new one as we go. I must say FMG has done a great job on the books!

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

You know, when I was reading about the numerous bugbears, my first thought was: "Man, how are we going to kill all these things." But then I remembered we want these dudes as our allies.

Talk about having to change your way of thinking. :p

King of Talingarde

I understand the feeling, lol.

You know, I just this moment when Sakkarot began opening the weapons crates realized the import of the Yutak wanting to trade their narwhal horn for weapons. Completely forgot we even had weapons on board.

I guess that was our opportunity to screw over our employer and/or the bugbears if we'd so chosen. Kind of impressed Odenkirk didn't consider it; perhaps he's not as greedy as Thorn believes him to be. :D

EDIT: Also...

Sakkarot Fire-Axe wrote:
He turns back to the crowd and calls out to the audience gathered. "These humans are my guests."

Sorry, Bostarg and Aedorn; you two will have to fend for yourselves. ;)

Odenkirk isn't supposed to know what was in the crates, only that he was supposed to transport them as well as you all. At least that's what you were told by Thorn, so unless he opened and sealed them back up without you all knowing.....

And yes, you caught me on that one. Bostarg and Aedorn, to the slave camps with the goblins!

King Markadian V wrote:

Ah, okay. I didn't know how much he knew about what he was transporting. I was pretty sure he wasn't up on the killing-Odenkirk-and-his-crew-when-they're-no-longer-useful part of the plan, anyway.

Will post IC later in the day. About to be busy for a while.

Not in use

Apologies for the absenteeism, holiday evenings are basically consisting of me welded to the couch with an eight month old on my chest and I've not been able to wrangle posting time until late at night (generally past midnight). Normal service will resume in three-ish days once I'm back at home base.

King of Talingarde

Just to let everyone know, tomorrow night I'll be attending a work holiday party, then Sunday I leave to Florida for a week. I'll try to make sure everything's as up to date as I can before the party tomorrow, but after that probably won't be able to post until at the hotel Sunday night. I should be able to post every night while in Florida, but if there's a delay it'd be work related. I come back next Friday if I completely disappear during this time for some reason.

Liberty's Edge

Thanks for the heads up - have a great trip!

Info on the poisons Tatya has prepared, as it's a hassle to try to convey mechanical info in character:

Baneberry poison: Save Fort DC 15; Onset 1 round (injury), 30 minutes (ingested); Frequency 1/minute for 5 minutes; Effect 1d3 Str damage, 1 Con damage, paralyzed 1d3 rounds; Cure 2 saves

Blue Whinnis poison

Drow poison

Baneberry is from the Guide to the River Kingdoms and isn't on d20pfsrd for some reason.

King of Talingarde

Sorry no post last night, didn't get back to hotel after 10 (work dinner). Tonight it might be similar, not sure if I'll have time to post, followed by early flight tomorrow. So if you don't hear from me until Friday night, that's why, though I'll try to manage one tonight if I can.

I think the ball's in our court right now while we figure out our plan anyway. How many are Kargeld's men?

HP 45/45, AC- 18, Touch- 14, Flat- 14, CMD- 21, Fort- +6, Ref- +9, Will- +2, Percep- +7, Init- +4

Baneberry poison followed by ambush works for me.

King of Talingarde

There should be 5 of odenkirks men and kargeld himself. Lunch phone post FTW!

Baneberry ingested has a 30-minute onset delay. Suppose Bostarg can jolly the captain into an impromptu farewell party, get him to drink the poison, and then lead him into the ambush? Doesn't do us any good to poison him if he sets sail before it can take effect.

Not in use

So with a slight ret-con in the main thread - Bostarg convinces the captain to come and share a drink and conspiritorial talk (deliver poison); followed by distracting him to one side of the ship when we hit land?

Where will the rest of his men be when we strike? Because while they might not be as tough as Odenkirk is, any one of them would still have no problem killing Tatya. She needs a safe-ish place from which to observe, and Aedorn needs a vantage point from which to shoot arrows.

Not in use

Bostarg and Alazandaru on the Captain - at the end of one vessel.

Morthos and Tatya close to each other a bit further along - with Morthos acting as 'bodyguard' to Tatya.

Aedorn near to Tatya, but with a line of fire both onto Kargeld as well as the others.

Sound doable?

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Works for me.

Not in use

Ran out of puff today, so will have the two-pronged lead in to the attack up tomorrow.

King of Talingarde

I've moved you in position with what I understand is your planned setup. let me know if this is correct?

The Map.

HP 45/45, AC- 18, Touch- 14, Flat- 14, CMD- 21, Fort- +6, Ref- +9, Will- +2, Percep- +7, Init- +4

Unlikely to confirm but its VS flat-footed so you never know. Also, +2 to both attack rolls if Bostarg is considered flanking, I guess he has to beat me in initiative to do so?

Alazandaru Viorec wrote:
I assumed as the expert poisoner, Tatya applied it to my blades for me.

She applied the poison, so there's no chance of poisoning yourself there, but...

Quote:
Whenever a character attacks with a poisoned weapon, if the attack roll results in a natural 1, he exposes himself to the poison. This consumes the poison on the weapon. Characters with the poison use class feature do not risk accidentally poisoning themselves.

She can't poison herself if she rolls a natural 1 with a poisoned weapon, but someone else using a weapon she treated can.

HP 45/45, AC- 18, Touch- 14, Flat- 14, CMD- 21, Fort- +6, Ref- +9, Will- +2, Percep- +7, Init- +4

Ah yeah now I remember. Not too likely to happen :)

Forgot to update her prepared spells after leaving the bugbears. Okay if she switches out detect poison for bleed and remove fear for burning hands?
