Help me figure out which ability I need to add to on my cleric...

Advice

Just hit level 4 with this cleric: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nYCN82whurQ

Not really sure how to build him since I've never had a cleric past levels 1-2. Should I put a point in wisdom (to 19), just to put myself in a situation where at 8th level I can get up to 20 wisdom?
Or should I go up to 12 dex now so I can take advantage of the 1 AC + Initiative it will give me (my Full-Plate gives me 1 AC bonus). I am the team's tank.

Or I could go up to 16 strength for an extra +1 damage and +1 to hit on my morning star...

Not really sure where to go with this. How do clerics do most of their damage at mid-high levels? With spells? Or will I be swinging my mace around?

Oops, here is the correct link for the: CLERIC

At mid-levels you're generally switching between the two roles of melee and caster and (depending on your party) walking bandaid! Your role should always be up to you, but remember, at higher levels, you will be relying heavily on your spells.

+1 Dex now, +1 Str at 8, and get items asap to get Wis to 20 then 22.

Jeez, all those odd ability scores are hurting my brain. Probably use the level 12 for Cha, level 16 for Int, but better would be if you could fudge a minor rebuild and take Int to 10 and Dex to 12 from the start, then level 4 into Str and level 8 into Cha.

And if you want the cleric's job to be to do damage, it's with self buffs and picking the right feats. Divine Favor, Bull's Strength, Shield of Faith, good domain powers. And if you want to tank and do damage, your wisdom is way too high. Should be 14 max at 1st level, and charisma only 10 or 12, the rest into Str, Con, and Dex.

With 18 Wis, you may want to reconsider your role. Look at debuffs and battlefield control as viable 1st round actions, and for this, Dex is much more important than Str, and you'll also want Improved Initiative and traits like reactionary to get your initiative up to +8 or more.

hmmm... really looking over your character, I hope you're in a friendly home group that does a lot of roleplay, because (not to sound critical) he's not very optimized into a particular role. He's kind of a generalist Cleric. Which means he's okay at a lot of stuff, fighting, casting, channeling, but not really great at anything. Even spell choice is a little odd to me. I guess I'd say read the Guides to the Guides thread at the top of this forum for more on what I mean.

"I hope you're in a friendly home group that does a lot of roleplay"

Isn't that kind of the definition of RPGs like pathfinder? If I wanted a competitive group that did nothing but combat in a dungeon, wouldn't I be better off playing something else?

Also, the scores were rolled, it was not a point buy system. I can't just remove a point from intelligence to add one to dex.

The spells are there because I want to try out a bunch of different stuff. I haven't tried any of these spells yet. Do you suggest something amazing that I'm missing?

I'll probably end up doing the +1 to Dex now. The more I think about it though, the more I'm not sure why i'd need to get that point in strength at all if clerics focus almost exclusively on spells later on (do they?)

its a solid cleric, but i would try and specialize in a role, unless you are given thousands and thousands of gp to just throw around (and being the healer and buffer, its really easy to get the party to like you, see: bard) you wont be able to do absolutely everything

are you the variant human that gets skill focus feats?

anyway, if you plan on being the tanky cleric kind (since you already have heavy armor prof.) you will benefit from a slightly higher STR, as it will be the most significant change in number, the second priority being DEX for the +1 boost to AC

having higher initiative is less important if you are less worried about being primarily a caster

if you wanna go the caster route, bump DEX, and do something to get higher initiative, you can also benefit from CHA, and naturally no one is gonna look down on you for maxing WIS

the specific requirements escape me, but i know there exists a feat that lets you use CHA instead of DEX for initiative, letting you value CHA for better channeling (since you already took selective channeling) called Noble Scion

the main message here is make sure you downsize the build, because you cant do it all, at least not without perfect stats, which you dont have

Ha ha, yeah, wish I had a home group, but so far 100% of my Pathfinder experience has been PFS.

If you're looking at tanking, again Dex next mainly for the +1 AC, and personal buffs. Bear's Endurance, too. Eventually energy resists, which are especially helpful if you can get some intel and have a good idea of what you'll be facing (electricity/cold/acid/fire?) False life for temporary hp.

If you're going to be a tanking cleric, you might also want to dip a level or two of barbarian for extra movement and some rage.

Do not dip barb. Never.

Why are you having so many feats? And those you have are not the best choice, but that has been mentioned before.
