M Humanborn

also in case you missed it, Rick has amnesia as relates to events before his embrace.

Ah yes I remember seeing someone had that but I'd forgotten who.

DireMerc, does the fact Vinccenso has a dot of Herd affect his starting blood pool?
Starting Blood: 1d10 ⇒ 10

Blood 9/15 Will 8/10

I look forward to playing with you folks.

it doesn't vince it just means you have an easier time getting blood.

looks human Blood Pool 6/10; Willpower 7/7

Hmm. Im new to this system, any suggestions as to what checks I should make?

If your not sure just post your action and I'll check and tell you what to roll.

How much blood does Erik get/ should he check to see if he drains too much off the man?

Drinking blood is a risky proposition. As vampires gorge on the vitae of their victims, there is always the chance that they may take too much.

A vampire may take only 20 percent of a vessel’s blood (2 blood points for a normal human) and leave it relatively safe (they can walk away).

Taking 3 to 4 points leaves them lightheaded and weak but they will most likely survive unaided.

Taking 5 to 7 points of a vessel’s blood necessitates hospitalization for that vessel in order for them to survive.

Taking 8 or more of a vessel’s blood will most likely kill it.

A vampire may take up to three blood points from a given vessel in a turn. The shorter the turn, the more forcefully the Kindred steals the vitae. It is generally impossible to take more than three blood points from a vessel in three seconds (the shortest a turn gets), though some Nosferatu with hideously distended mouths are able to take more through sheer surface area bleed.

Most vampires drink their victim’s blood slowly, so as to savor the luscious fluid and draw as much pleasure as possible out of the experience.

You can use the link at the top to see pics of some characters.

So 1d10 before I regain control and chose if I want to continue draining him seem good?

Today's Spells:
Cantrips: Acid Splash, Detect Magic, Message, Prestidigitation
Male Human (Mixed Kellid/Ulfen) Wizard {Scroll Scholar} (Universalist)/4 HP 20/20, Init +1, Per +0, AC 15*(11)/ t11/ ff 14*(10), F 2, R 2, W 3

You drain blood at a rate of 1 point per action. I would recommend only taking two points & then seeing if you can stop. In most of the VtM games I've played in, a Vampire at 0 blood is pretty much in a hunger frenzy until they have at least 5, so there is a better than average chance that you won't have a choice in the matter...

It's called a game of personal horror for a reason...

Right so you take two then roll self-control to see if you can stop. Difficulty 8. One success means you can.

Blood Pool 6/15, Self-Control 4

Blood Pool: 1d10 ⇒ 3

When you buy Generation, do you add the extra to this number... or are you even less "full" percentage wise?

Also, what are the benefits of the Herd background in this situation? We're only 25 miles from downtown Chicago.

you do not add to this number you start with a lower percentage of your max.

Having the herd background reduce the difficulty of hunting checks by 1 per dot. Doesn't mean you can automatically succeed at hunting.

Blood Pool 6/15, Self-Control 4

OK and Auspex 1 (Heightened Senses) may help at Story Teller's discretion. Your feeling?

It can yes.

Blood Pool: 10/12 Willpower 5/7

Just a heads up that I may be slow to respond/short in my responses. Had a workplace accident yesterday, so two of my fingers are stitched and bandaged up. Typing is a little difficult until I get used to it.

gotcha, it's no problem. I hope you heal well and that it doesn't cause you too much trouble.

I want to take a moment to say I hope 'Vince's' manner isn't too abrasive to people. I didn't intend him to come off as quite this much of a weasel, but he has made a concerted effort to not be anything more than just the 'go-between-guy' & doesn't like things that up the overall stress level of the city...

Which even a rumour of a Sabbat incursion qualifies as. The only thing that would ratchet matters up higher might be another Lupine war or possibly a Cathayan incursion, & the Asian population is rising every night...

male kindred assamite 12th generation blood pool 11/11

I maintain that he and erik should have at least some knowledge of each other, since erik has been in the area for at least a few months. They have probably never worked together but may have seen the other before, or heard things from other kindred in the area.

Which is enough that 'Vince's' immediate response to his presence isn't 'Do we know this guy isn't Sabbat?', unlike Ben. It doesn't mean 'Vince' knows Erik well enough to know what he is capable of in these circumstances & 'Vince' puts effort into being underestimated. Has Erik put effort into learning details about clearly unimportant bottom-feeders?

male kindred assamite 12th generation blood pool 11/11

No, which is why they have only heard of each other.

Blood Pool 6/15, Self-Control 4

Don't mean to back pedal or retcon but... Should/would Thom have hunted prior to going to the meet?

Ventrue also are picky. Thinking young drug/tobacco/alcohol free (out of their system) females.

Indiana U NW or the local community college.

Thom probably looks/passes for an older grad student, late twenties/early thirties. Start young, one or two tours of duty, couple or three years CPD.

Not necessary but if you feel your blood is low you could. The others are heading towards a fight but you aren't just yet.

If you are asking about Vinccenso...
How much experience with Sabbat goons do you have?

He looks a like a scrawny homeless guy who's clothes haven't been washed in weeks.
I would say he looks like a homeless guy who hasn't bathed in weeks but one of the few perqs of being a Vampire is that, under normal conditions, your appearance re-sets when you awaken every night, so the only way he would look that bad is if he did when he was embraced.

nah, i was asking about the thug with the gun next to the burn victim

Blood 9/15 Will 8/10

It dawned on me that my posts might be a little overlooked for lack of an avatar. So considering there were no child avatars that I could find I choose one fitting a Malkavian.

The avatar does help thank you.

I posted a link up above to my google drive were I posted pictures of the main players in town.

Question around combat:

Are you using something more along the lines of nWoD combat? I only ask as I have only seen one set of rolls per combat action.

Typically for a knife attack you would roll Dex + Melee (Diff 6) any successes would be added to a Str + 1 (knife damage) roll vs Diff 6.

For example:

Attacker has 2 Str, 2 Dex and 1 Melee Attack: 3d10 ⇒ (6, 7, 7) = 20 = 3 Successes. Damage: 2d10 + 1d10 + 3d10 ⇒ (8, 6) + (5) + (1, 6, 8) = 34 = 4 Successes - 1 for a "1" = 3 Lethal Damage to be soaked.

Combat Summary Chart (pg 273, V20)

Stage One: Initiative
• Roll initiative (or add 6 to the initiative
rating). Everyone declares their actions. The
character with the highest initiative performs
her action first. Actions can be delayed to any
time later in the order of initiative.
• Declare any multiple actions, reducing dice
pools accordingly. Declare Discipline activation
and Willpower expenditure.

Stage Two: Attack
• For unarmed close-combat attacks, roll
Dexterity + Brawl.
• For armed close-combat attacks, roll Dexterity
+ Melee.
• For ranged combat, roll Dexterity + Firearms
(guns) or Dexterity + Athletics (thrown
weapons).
• A character can abort to a defensive action
(block, dodge, parry) at any time before her
action is performed, as long as you make a
successful Willpower roll (or a Willpower
point is spent).

Stage Three: Resolution
• Determine total damage effect (weapon
type or maneuver), adding any extra dice
gained from successes on the attack roll.
• Targets may attempt to soak damage, if possible

ok seems I misread the damage section.

It would have been like you rolled above as I am following the book.

However for now leave it at 2 damage and I will correct my damage rolling in the future.

The guy who got shot is incapacitated so only the knife wilder left.

I assumed at this point that Erik only has a 9mm which is the worst pistol type available. Especially since he wasn't expecting trouble tonight and didn't bring anything special.

Low health levels on these guys, eh?

Normally 4 levels of damage would only take someone to wounded, which would put the goon 2 dice down, but not dead.

yes. Using the rules for extras.

Got it.

Blood Pool 6/15, Self-Control 4

Ooooh... Cinematic! Woohoo!

Blood Pool 6/15, Self-Control 4

How does hunting go? Auspex (heightened senses) and Herd 2.

He's trolling college campuses, sporting events, bars, theatre, etc...

Yes sorry with so many players it's hard to keep track of everyone so If forget to reply to your post trow down a reminder in the ooc and I will get right on it.

keep in mind this city is pretty much dead. It went from a population of over 200000 in the 1960's to a population of 70000 with 16% of that being unemployed in 2013. (these numbers are actually real kinda sucks for that town)

There is no college, sporting event or theater but if you look a round you might find a bar with a few people inside.

Blood Pool 6/15, Self-Control 4

About missing my post, that's fine. Multiple contexts do that.

I did though look into Gary, when we started. Indiana University NW, is in Gary and has enrollment of about 5,000+ and Ivy Tech Community College (Indiana system) has a campus there as well, guessing 2,000+. East Chicago campus is 8 miles out.

Fittingly, Indiana University NW, when you go to iun.edu is putting on "Dracula" for Halloween.

I'd thought looking up Gary would make things easier. But, if we're in an even worse Gary then the research confuses things.

ok seems I was wrong about the college thing then. The description I read made things out to be pretty bleak.

Blood Pool: 10/12 Willpower 5/7

For bonus damage, is that every success beyond the first or just every success on the attack roll?

male kindred assamite 12th generation blood pool 11/11

I am pretty sure that it is extra successes.

Today's Spells:
Cantrips: Acid Splash, Detect Magic, Message, Prestidigitation

Additional successes on the attack roll count as additional damage dice in the damage roll, yes.

I'm still around don't have time to post right now. Will resume regular updates tomorrow.

Blood 9/15 Will 8/10

We wait with... well no breath really.

On the bright side Orphan, at least you haven't multi-botched yet.

I was in a VtM game once where my friend had a Courage of five & wound up rolling ones on all of them in a Rotchreck test.
Man, that mattress was shredded...
