Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

Just had a brain-warp. The arrow pointing North is correct on the map. All future directions will now be correct...

Male Human expert/1

"Well, now, you know, Isn't it as if your Brigid is giving us all what we need to find our ways to safety? Do you know I was worried that shoe would let us die? But now, do you see? Is she not looking after us? Somehow?"

Turning to Siobhán:

"Where next?"

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

Coinneach's map - for reference

Healaugh opens the right hand door to discover that both it and the left hand door lead into a massive room that was once a gallery. Nothing remains but rotting picture frames. There is no more to see.

Coinneach looks reproachfully at the halfling as the little fisherman ogles the spear.

>>>>MAP<<<<

male Halfling Commoner 1

Catching sight of Coinneach's face, Healaugh looks up at him.

"Never tha' fret. Tain't mine. I knows that. Brigid-lass lent spear to help us, not for me to keep. Honouring your master's memory is what I'll be doing."

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

The old man looks not very much mollified, "Aye, 'tis right enough. Not yers, at all, so. Himself's it is, and don't ye fergit it."

male Halfling Commoner 1

"Aye. I knows that. Tha'll be getting spear back when we're off island. May be a fool, but m'not stupid."

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

"Hadn't we better press ahead?" asks Melisana nervously.

Yo, treasure hunters, please all make a Listen check - apparently IC is down, so feel free to roll at home. In fact feel free to do that anyway for rolls.

Female Alfkinder (Half Elf) Adept 1

Siobhán presses a finger to her lips as Coinneach and Healaugh start discussing the spear before quietly starting to follow the pull of the wand again.

Listen: 13+3=16

male Halfling Commoner 1

Taking Siobhan's unspoken reprove, Healaugh nods and listens intently.

1d20+3 = 15

Brand cocks his head nervously, straining to hear something

listen: 12+3 = 15 :) on my not-so-lucky-of-late-at-the-face-to-face-table, green d20

I guess that was a poor choice of words

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

Apologies for this taking so long. Real life has been a strain recently.

The group hear the noise of some people walking around the corner; only to find themselves face to face with two Yrchish warriors! The pirates look at you with stupefaction. Now is your chance to act!

They're surprised. Roll initiative!

male Halfling Commoner 1

Init: (1d20 3=10)

Male Human expert/1

Ynyr does a double-take when he sees the nasties, but whips out his dagger and prepares to give 'em something not very nice.

Initiative: (1d20+1=9)

init (1d20=9)

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

>>>>SURPRISE ROUND<<<<

Initiatives

Tresmeer 12
Melisana 12
Healaugh 10
Ynyr 9
Brand 9
Siobhán 9
Yrch A 7
Conall 3
Yrch B 2

Fearful of the appearance of the two pirates, Melisana and Tresmeer fumble with their weapons trying to load.

Actions please! You are about 20 feet away from them in a 10 ft wide corridor. Thus only two of you can be in melee at the same time with the yrchs. Ranged weapons can be used without cover penalties.

male Halfling Commoner 1

Healaugh holds the javelin close to him, and whispers the to it, his eyes wild with a mixture of fury at seeing the Yrch scum and elation at the power the javelin gives him.

"Llawela" he murmers, before hurling himself down the corridor and jabbing ferociously at the nearest yrch. Let's say Yrch A unless DM says otherwise

Charge attack with shock weapon: (1d20 2=19, 1d4 1=2, 1d6=2)

Male Human expert/1

Without thinking, Ynyr charges down towards Yrch and hits out at the same beast that Healaugh just lashed out at.

Hit with dagger; Damage (1d20+2=7, 1d4+2=3)

But perhaps he should start thinking now...

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

With Ynyr and Healaugh in front of the Yrchs, no-one else can enter melee now. Just so you all know. :D

male Halfling Commoner 1

So - is it possible to crawl between yrch legs if one happens to be a halfling and at what kind of penalty if one did this daft thing?

Male Human expert/1

This is true, but Ynyr felt that he was obliged to try out his new toy since it would be a shame to waste it. However, now he has come to his senses, he will take a step back on his next turn and allow better fighters to join the fray.

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

Well... let's see... you have two choices. Tumble (are you trained in Tumble? If not then you can't) or over-run. He won't just let you crawl through his legs. :)

male Halfling Commoner 1

No tumble, so either overrun or get out of the way. Brand and Conall are both miles better at melee. Will think about it in light of whatever happens next.

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

Will have to act for both mayhap...

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

Brand is startled by Ynyr and Healaugh pelting to the attack, and follows on, as does Conall. Siobhan hangs back, unsure of what to do.

Stop reading my mind, I was just about to post something to that effect!

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

>>>>ROUND 1<<<<

Initiatives

Tresmeer 12
Melisana 12
Healaugh 10
Ynyr 9
Brand 9
Siobhán 9
Yrch A 7
Conall 3
Yrch B 2

So, now the yrchs can act normally.

Tresmeer backs away, looking for somewhere to run, "Le's get t' the bloomin' boat!" Melisana goggles.

Short stuff, you're up. EVERYONE, post stuff up in any order and I'll sort it out as we go.

male Halfling Commoner 1

"Tha dostna befoul Sea King's home, scum."

Healaugh punctuates his words with javelin stabs on Yrch A. Somehow his attacks feel less effective.

Attacking Yrch A: (1d20 2=13, 1d4 1=5, 1d6=1)

Might be best shutting up and just hitting them for future. Fool halfling. he berates himself silently.

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

The Yrch looks stunned as the diminutive fisherman grimly stabs him in the gut and a bolt of lightning engulfs his body. The sea-demon collapses to the ground, dead as the proverbial door-nail.

Female Alfkinder (Half Elf) Adept 1

Still unsure of herself Siobhán looks around for a more intelligent course of action. Thinking on her feet she looks at the two Yrchs. "Leave us be!" She tells them solidly, throwing her arms wide and casting a spell, the only spell she has that has the potential of scaring them away or at least drawing their attention to her and away from the others.

Unleashing a gallon of water, she gives the two monsters a look that implies she can do a lot worse to them if they don't back off, all the while worrying they'll see through her.

Casting a mighty create water - fear the mighty spellcaster
Intimidate (1d20+1=16)

Male Human expert/1

"Now, just how stupid am I being?" Thinks Ynyr when his last undisciplined slash met thin air. Seeing Brand behind him, he takes a step in front of Healaugh, Allowing Brand to occupy his place if he wishes to, (on top of the felled Yrch and, from that vantage, he lashes out again).

"Pretty stupid apparently, wouldn't you say?" He says to no-one in particular.

More undisciplined slashing. (1d20+2=8, 1d4+2=5)

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

The pirate deflects Ynyr's feeble blow and snarls.

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

I'll adjudicate Kayos' truly wonderful action after we've seen what Brand has up his sleeve. :D Create Water + Intimidate - genius!

sorry for the delay...I had some sheetrock taping (plastering) to do around a window I had put in about 2 yrs ago in my computer/laundry and it turned into a nightmare of dust and paint and faux finish. that was all weekend (we had a 3 day in the US) but now I'm good with a very good feeling about being in here now upon reassembly...bravo on the create water...ingenious, I'm always looking for ways to use spells unconventionally (?) but on with the show, I'm guessing my strike will be simultaneous with the water and I'm going for the recently vacated spot of Ynyr

Suddenly something clicks and Brand's mind, and as if waking from a dream, he leaps forward to the space vacated by Ynyr, face twisted with hatred. It seems as though he was going to say something but all that escapes his lips is a gutteral snarl as he brings his axe to bear on the foul Fhoi Myore foe!

attack and damage with axe (1d20+5=19, 1d8+3=8)

Woot! take that fiend!!

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

Brand hacks down the pirate just as his half-elf friend shouts boldly, and a small downpour of water pelts over the yrch as he expires.

Both yrchs lie dead at your feet.

male Halfling Commoner 1

Shaking the water from his eyes, Healaugh grins at his companions.

"That was something like. We'll get off this island yet, tha'll see."

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

Coinneach nods grimly, "Aye, aye," he says, "Best be going." and he grabs Siobhán by the sleeve and mutters, "This way, this way," heading east along the corridor to the intersection.

Brand, Ynyr, Siobhán, and Healaugh each receive 150XP

male Halfling Commoner 1

Duly noted and appreciated.

Patting the javelin and cleaning the yrch blood from the blade, Healaugh puffs after Coinneach.

"Where now? Don't want to be meeting any more yrchs."

He turns his attention to the javelin once more. "Tha's done good by Brigid-lass." he mutters. Catching strange glances from the others, he looks up "Only right to thank tools for job well done." he says defensively.

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

>>>>MAP<<<<

You are now at the red dot, Coinneach is taking you north up the corridor

"Come on, ye've taken enough o' Himself's trinkets as it is," he mutters as he pulls the half-elf along, the others trooping behind.

Before being dragged along himself Brand checks to see if the Yrch have anyting useful (mostly hoping for food) then drags the bodies into the closest empty room off the corridor. His face a mask of disgust as he touches the foul things.

"Filth!!"

he thinks as he carries out the gruesome task.

Female Alfkinder (Half Elf) Adept 1

Siobhán makes a soft surprised sound as she's tugged along by the old man. Clutching the stick and the scroll she's been told shound be hers tightly to her chest she silently follows along, not feeling the need to make any sort of comment.

male Halfling Commoner 1

"M'not wanting weapons for mesen, but there's others might need them." Healaugh gestures randomly behind him.

"Tha' said there was weapon store down here I'm thinking. Best hope no pirate scum's found them first."

Healaugh canters quietly in front of Coinneach, glowering at the doors as though expected every one to open and disgorge a pucha army.

He's moving ahead and is currently between the first set of doors in the north pointing corridor.

Brand makes an effort to glide stealthily up to where Healaugh has moved to but but looks comically clumsy with his dour poker face on.

Axe at the ready he's heard to say "I agree...we were lucky in that last pinch and anything we can find to 'elp in another'd be good...plus there may be food...and even if we escape by boat, it won't be doin us no good if we STARVE at sea."
Realizing he's raised his voice only deepens the comically dour look on his face as he gestures at the north doors with his axe.

I don't suppose the yrch had any food? Brand hungry :) [

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

Coinneach leads the band into what was once a record room; broken desks lie in bits on the floor, as well as moldy bits of paper (now indecipherable). A bookcase stands against the north wall.

The old man says quietly, "Well, there it be. Ye have to poosh a wee button on the top of yon bookcase."

It is too high for Healaugh to reach up, but another member of the party could do so.

Male Human expert/1

Seeing no-one else moving. Ynyr moves over to the bookcase and feels around on top for the button.

"So, now, do you suppose this leads to a secret passage? That would hopefully keep the nasties out would it not? Now how long is it since you were here, may I ask?" He asks of Coinneach.

And pooshes the wee button.

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

"Aye this leads doon tae the catacombs," the old man replies, "Must be... twenty year since I bin doon thur."

Ynyr presses the button...

...

...

and nothing happens.

male Halfling Commoner 1

After waiting patiently for a moment, Healaugh shrugs.

"Happen button's not working after twenty year. Ynyr, tha's clever one, can tha' mend it?"

The halfling prods experimentally at the bookcase, hoping to trigger something.

"Maybe there's a key or something we've overlooked" Brand says stifly, trying to look important after his clumsy attempt at stealth. " Perhaps Melisana and the old man can guard this room with Connall n' Tresmeer and we can further search yon" he says gesturing towards the door with his axe "for some kind of key or other"

"now that we've made the room I'd hate to lose it to Phooka-scum" he puts in almost as an after thought.

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

"Well..." Coinneach says after a while, "Ye do have tae prise the case away from the wall, and then ye'll see the shaft leadin' doon."

"It'll make a fair bit o' clamour though."

If you wish to prise the bookcase from the wall you have two choices: fast or slow. Fast will take 1 round; slow will take 1 minute. Either way, the heavy bookcase will make a lot of noise.

male Halfling Commoner 1

Healaugh stares hard at Coinneach.

"Pull bookcase away from wall. Reet."

He looks down at his rather petite form.

"Happen I'm best keeping eye out for danger then. Mebbe Tresmeer, Conall and Brand can do hefting."
