"Do you mind doing me a favour? I would like to take a scale of yours and occasionally scry on you. It'd be the only way I'd be able to see how my people were doing on Golarion. I might be able to send short messages or give bits of advice on the problems they may be facing. I mean if you feel it would be an infringement of your privacy, I understand. I would have asked Usawoti about for this favour - but I don't think the breach between us can be healed."

should I have said that he spit at an empty part of the floor? He wasn't aiming for anyone it would be quite insulting.

Usawoti glares at the demon he spat on, shifting Mope away as much as possible, ignoring the rest of the sycophants. "You did not know Inarus, before he became the dragon demon. When it happened he voiced concerns that he would loose his humanity. That the nature of the dragon and the demon would change him. And so it has, no maybe he hasn't changed since you've met him, but changed he has. By his own confession, Inarus is dead. And frankly I care not what still exists. He swore an oath to elves that sent us here to find their princess, or return with word. Obviously that did not matter to what he became. Now I want assurance that the other promise he made will be kept. I care not what happens to this thing. Inarus is dead. He probably died when we combated the demon-dragon and just didn't realize it."

"Uh, okay, but, aren't, like, I a demon? But, like, doesn't that mean that since, like, I'm not evil, he's not? Or does it not work that way?" she asks.

I will take nothing acquired of this machine with me when I return to Golarion.'

Usawoti stops focusing on the ring, 'except for the loss of a friend.'

"you are such a stupid puffed up lousy jerk" she says, "of course i care about your feelings - i would work to undo your fiance if i did not - but those feelings do not matter if you following them only gets yourself killed and eaten before you get back to your bride - for she has feelings too or do you no longer care about her in your pig headed self-righteous diatribe" she asks, pointedly.

"you are also to woefully ignorant to be believed - the coven has no ability to remove either me or what i have placed within you and your own actions seek only to ruin the lives of yourself and your bride and your tribe - arrogance and ignorance at its worst"

"nonetheless i will have a conversation with your bride and if she still seeks my removal i will do so for her sake - you are not thinking clearly because you have been by far the more practical one until this point and yet now you seek only your death by clinging to a lie you have fabricated in your own mind - the only purpose that i can determine is to hate the very ones who seek your best interest"

emote

"i have a question though - were your yeye to agree to my decisions and to accept what i have done would you spit at her feet and abandon her with the callous disregard as you have shown me i wonder"

emote

"further seems to me you have made two conflicting vows - you refuse to take anything this machine has given you back to golarion and yet you have vowed to take both her and those who would follow you back - you are indeed a fool who can no longer reconcile your vows due to your own arrogance and hasty judgments"

emote

"i do wish i had fallen for someone cleverer than you but alas we are here now" she finishes.

Usawoti moves Mope over to where he saw Iya-Iya drop the gemstone that the dragon had given her from the coven. Patting his old friend on the neck he dismisses Mope and begins searching for the dropped stone. After searching awhile, asking those around the area to excuse him as he searched, he finally locates it. Looking at it briefly and retuning it to his pouch.

Turning to the dragon, he smiles and remarks, "Why don't you take your army with you and train them in this 'timeless dimension.' I'm sure there are things you could call up for them to practice on. They will need to learn to survive here and in Golarion."

Finding a place near the mouth of a tunnel, Usawoti clears a spot, laying out his bedding, and other camping utensils he rest, waiting until the dragon is ready to head to the other level.

GM TL, I assume Usawoti can take 20 (42) on perception looking for the gemstone.

You could, but they'd either be considered counterfeit (if noticed) or have a unique mint (either with imprint or not) to them - still just as valuable as currency, of course, but, you know, not normal.

Inarus:

"but more to the point your double-standard is exceptionally telling - 'she would not force me to live - she would let me die if i wanted to because that is what people who love each other do' is entirely incompatible with 'how dare you kill that creature who was willing to die but unable to do so on his own in order to save the lives and souls of many' - you are being morally and intellectually dishonest with yourself and trying to put that off on us - on me - as being the villain despite hating a person who lived up to the very standard you claim to espouse"

emote

"frankly you have no idea how much this hurts me - i knew you would never accept me but not only are you rejecting my feelings for you but you are also telling me that i am evil for saving your life because your sheer arrogance demands that you never admit to being wrong" she says, gently. "but know this - you accuse your friend of being dead because he made a decision that prevents him from fulfilling his vow to his patrons yet now you seek to make the same decision - to throw your life away and fail not only the coven but your bride just because you refuse to believe that any good thing could ever come from this machine"

emote

"the truth is far more complex than you can possibly realize in this state beautiful usawoti but believe this if nothing else - i have no illusions that you will never forgive me but your forgiveness is not required as i care about you more than you believe and i will save your life and allow you to tell your family the stories of your adventures so long as it is within my power to do so - you may not want me which is understandable but i will still do what i think is best for you as that - not whatever fabrication you may have come up with in your head - is what people who love each other do and i will work very hard to ensure you get to see your yeye and get out of here together again - it is all i can do"

"Yes,it is better for him to think of me as dead and gone. It will spare him the agony of the truth. And I will grant him bliss in ignorance." But even as he says the words, he feels a pang of sorrow. 'For all I've done - all I've lost forever, people still think me as a villain and what I did was wrong'

The Lady:
Usawati sighs, and shakes his head. ’ Quigaz’ir’Eter, I tire of the bickering. My intent is to find Shuvuu and the key and return it to the coven, and begin a new adventure with my bride. If I can help anyone in the process I will, If I can free any in bondage I would. The same was true of Inarus. It was not my intention, in a moment of sadness, frustration and anger; to make conflicting vows. It was not my intention to question or belittle you or your understanding as you see it.”

He shifts on his blanket, leaning against the wall. ’I see this place as diabolical, and want to take none of its taint with me. That is all I meant. if I actively resist what I can, I may be able to reduce what I unconsciously accept. I do not see you as part of the taint but I do not enjoy being forced into anything. Gifts are given and accepted not thrust upon.’

He points to the dragon. ’Inarus spoke of wanting to retain his humanity. He spoke of his fear of becoming a dragon. That is what happened. I begged him to search for another option, even saying that if there was none that we would come back. What am I supposed to think? In the process, he took life. If my grandmother would say to me, “Zaluu Khüü, I am sick and suffering, kill me, put me out of my misery and you shall have your inheritance.” I would not do it, for it would be evil. That is how I see the previous rulers sacrifice, just because he was willing doesn’t mean it had to happen. There is a saying in the Quah “The best option may not always be the right one.”

He breaths another heavy sigh, ”We all have conscious thought, and subconscious desires. Whether I am right about Inarus’s doesn’t matter now, he is lost to me and cannot leave this place. Would I rather believe he was destroyed by inner demons and the machinations of this place instead of him willingly and intentionally abandoning me? I would be a fool to close my eyes to the possibilities. Either way the die are cast. Other options are dead to us now, this is our path. So we will walk it. I will follow him to the key, hopefully finding Shuvuu on the way. Then I will leave. I can do nothing else.”

Inarus:
Iya-iya

"... very well, then." she nods. She continues her work.

i know you fear corruption but you can rest assured that so much as it is within my power to do i will ensure that you and yours will be free from corruption so long as i may have any help in it

After a time, all preparations are made.

A general plan is displayed on the walls (near Usawoti), offering an immediate (safe) exit from these tunnels, or allowing him to attempt his own way to traverse them.

Choose one. I am moving this forward, so your choice is more or less RP-only, at this point: you want to get out, you will (now, given the new influences over the lairs) find a way.

And so the lot of everyone is brought to the edges of the "worlds" known to exist... and beyond.

Inarus, Mope, Quiet-Gazer, and Usawoti once again find themselves on a familiar-looking precipice in a jungle they have not seen for some time - longer than it should be, really.

As souls, spirits, and creatures of all sorts pour out around them and safely into the misty gap ahead, the four - and a brass dragon barely able to keep breathing at the sheer wonder of what she is witnessing - stand surrounded by these surroundings in the bowel of an ancient tower in a massive eldritch machine.

When Inarus indicates he and his are ready, Usawoti mounts Mope and follows the mob. As they return to the elevator chamber, He attempts to sense Shuvuu; looking out into the ‘shaft’ that runs up the middle of the comples

Usawoti looks to the dragon previously known as Inarus and asks ”Luu Chötgör, can you lead us to this dueterominal level?”

Firstly, I think we already are in the deuterominal level. If we aren't, then we need to operate the Machine.

Loremaster, take 20 for knowledge checks. Minimum for all knowledges, 43, some like arcana may be higher (45)

Usawoti:

Inarus, using his newfound knowledge, discusses things with the air elementals (that are badly overwhelmed trying to help all the creatures in the central shaft) and, upon mentioning the deuteroterminal level, the air elementals are excited to help!

They "assist" you by struggling to lift everyone even higher, up to a high point, and ceiling.

As you approach, reality seems to slowly turn on its head, as the sensation of going "up" toward a "ceiling" becomes heading "down" toward a "floor" instead, until you either manage to turn upright DC 18 Acrobatics or Dexterity check or crash head-first take 1d6 ⇒ 1 damage!

Iya-iya and a few other former inhabitants crash with a brief "Whoof-" but otherwise they all seem fine.

Inarus reduces the check by 5, but treats the walls as corporeal.

Inarus examines the new floor carefully. Eventually, he uncovers a ritual pattern, and uses it, altering and shifting a few runes with some minor chants, until a hole opens in the floor with a ladder. Heading down, the gravitation reverses once again, leaving a second disorienting moment DC 18 Acrobatics or Dexterity check, DC 15 climb check v. falling out the hole and back onto the "ground" the hole extends from, take 1d6 on failure; flight negates, though this time, at least, Iya-iya and others seem to keep hold of their grip and manage to arrive out, successfully.

Inarus notices a faint trail of slime across everything - a slime that Usawoti (with Qui'Gaz'Er's aid) recognizes as remnants of the fiendish fungal plants - clearly they had passed this way, previously.

Though slick, the lot of them make the climb, successfully, and Inarus eventually opens a hatch at the end, quietly, sliding out onto a floor, until he finds a long corridor stretching forward, another stretching up in a spiral, and two others to either side, perpendicular to the first.

There are soft, echoing voices coming from... somewhere, talking about.... something. You hear a distant bird chirp of some kind - it's the chirp of a falcon.

Where do you go?

"Ow! " Inarus exclaims as he doesn't quite manage to land headfirst on the floor."Feels as if gravity is reversed here." He picks himself up, "How undignified.Everyone all right? " He asks his flock.

Then he starts fiddling with the floor, opening a hole in it. 'Curiouser and curiouser. Are we going up or down now?' He thinks to himself.

Telepathically to Quiet Gazer

"I don't know how to put this delicately. It appears your sisters have come here before us. I do not wish to fight them. I do not wish to cause you pain by having to choose between them and us. Is there a way to persuade then that there's more to life then killing and eating other living things?" He consults her.

"We'll need to find Shuuvu first."He declares, as he moves towards the chirping of the falcon. "Don't scry on him, Usawoti", he lays a spectral claw warningly on Usawoti's arm. "Let me." Then he steps some distance away from the group and casts Locate Creature to determine Shuuvus direction.

Inarus feels a pang of regret as he leaves his domain, knowing that beyond, he will no longer have the power to remake reality to his whims and fancies. 'The power, it's so seductive. You could have anything in the world... ' Then another thought occurs to him, 'Is that what Usawoti meant by power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely?'

'I am better then that. I took up the mantle for Usawoti, Iya-iya, Quiet Gazer and my people, not myself.'

'It's for a good cause, idiot. For everyone's future. Besides you still have your own personal power to draw upon.'He chides himself, then continues on.

Mope returns to the tattoo-form.

It takes Usawoti a few tries before he finally manages to get through the ladder section, though, eventually he does so.

Usawoti nods his head and reaches out to Shuvuu, attempting scrying to form a bond with his animal friend. "Come on Shuvuu, show me where you are so we can come get you."

Usawoti has a vision: his long-time friend, now long-missing, Shuvuu is perched on a vine held by a rhythmically singing plant, staring into the birds eyes. She is beautiful and voluptuous and the way she moves begins to hypnoti- no - with the aid of Qui'Gaz'Er shutting down her sister's power, Usawoti pushes past the effect and successfully finds his companion in the tower, using his connected palm with that the nearby spirit dragon to show where, exactly his friend is: above.

Power assaults Usawoti and Inarus, but it attempts to hit the latter first, finds nothing, and disperses, harmlessly.

The spiral ramp-case going up. You may wish to hurry - there is some discussion in the background of Usawoti's vision just 'using the knife on the dumb bird' - not by the hypnotically swaying/singing creature but by an unseen speaker.

Realizing that he would be less effective than Inarus and his worshipers, Usawoti lets them scramble fly? up the stairwell, casting a defensive spell as he waits.

I'm assuming it will take a second for them to get up the spiral ramp case, so he will cast a spell, not sure which yet, but will figure it out. Is it ok if we retcon having cast spells before we jumped onto the elemental elevators?

Actually, I should probably clarify, based on your recent experiences, insights, and higher lore checks - your likely guess is that it's not any sort of active effect - it's something that's automatic.

Basically: direct-action divinations into or around this tower are hammered/fried, and also inhibited to some extent. Hence: it's really hard to divine anything here - it can work, but it's exceptionally unlikely to work (and so far, nothing has really gone well for you guys in this regard); even with a very powerful effect, it can fail.

This is likely the same reason the Maiden, Mother, and Crone had never successfully learned too much about the inner workings of the tower. If you're in a region without total blockage and a strong enough connection to the subject, it can work, though only some sort of warding from power prevents the destructive energies.

Yes, that's fine. You may want to start following, though - it's a long way up, and even if you're going "after" them, it's better to be on-hand than a long, long way down.

Yeah I'm only assume the first combat round to let everyone pass. There's a huge problem with speed difference between Usawoti and fliers though, can Mope run the stairs?

That is fair... but yes, he actually can. Can't climb up a shaft - so he needed to return to tattoo form, earlier, but the stairs are wide enough for him to hurry up them.

As Inarus and those who grasp at freedom surge upward.

Time and space move and surge, ebbing and flowing in strange ways, here, and only part of it is the result of anarchic madness that's been slowly infecting some parts of the tower.

Hm.

The spiral stair winds, open-sided, up the tower until it reaches what amounts to something akin to a thousand-foot-wide suspended plate of obsidian stone for a ceiling, attached to the wall in seven equa-distant points with one-foot by seven-foot tall sideways columns.

It is brimming with powerful energy forms - deadly clouds of acid, roiling frigid cold, crawling destructive electricity, flowing flanks of fire, nearly solid waves of sound, spinning shards of force, and the rippling destructive bottom face of the plate (turning into spikes, razors, and pounding hammers) all obscured within a morass of thick mist and thin waves and by shot through by potent winds.

Inarus et. al. decides to avoid, for now.

You've enough sensory augmentation that you suspect there's nothing there, really, to acquire, though there is the quivalent of a prismatic wall flush along the bottom as well. Outside of the wall, nothing is a "spell" specifically - it is ectoplasmic, meaning it would affect incorporeal creatures as much as physical.

The "plate" proves to be quite thick as the stairs rise upward beside it for another seventy-five feet, with seven "columns" moving upward spread at equa-distant points up the sides of the plate.

Moving quietly with your augmentations, you arrive high and into a large open chamber with a clear door leading into a central fifteen-foot diameter shaft reaching to impossible heights above while radiating destructive power akin to that of the bottom of the plate. The destructive energies of the shaft terminate when it flares into a wide (fifteen foot) plate-like-flute fifteen feet above the plate-floor you are rising to, now; that flute that looks almost like an overhang for the rest of the shaft - narrowing back to a fifteen foot diameter that fuses with the floor. There are seven alters (each a seven pointed star three foot high) each set fifteen feet away from the shaft - half under the overhang and half out from under it.

It is obvious at a glance that much effort has been made to destroy the lower wall - and, judging by the several badly treated corpses of humanoid fungi around, and lack of any noticeable scarring on the wall, every attempt has failed.

There is one obvious alraune, though Inarus can clearly see another cloaked by invisibility with scent negated and sounds muted around her. Hundreds of fungi infest the walls of this place, spore-pods grown from... who knows what, but glued to the walls with abyssal fungal mucus with a vile disgustingly sickly sweet and overwhelmingly foul rot smell. Many more fungi infest the preponderance of the plate-floor and much of the air around it in a vile floating swarm with flapping heads above even these leaving little actual room to either stand or fly.

The invisible one suddenly perks up and beings whispering.

"h-wut doo yoo mee-n h-th're ees soom-oon h-heer~!?" the visible alraune asks.

Usawoti:

I will retcon the actions that got us here in a few moments but for speed of game sake I will answer her now.

Usawoti roles his eyes at Quiet Gazers apology, "I keep telling you, I am not bothered by speaking to you, why do you insist on apologizing? Yes, we can move to the front if you think we will be of assistance. Would it be beneficial if I change into the alraune shape or wake the eternal seed to join us?"

Usawoti begins to move forward, then asks "Do you believe Mope will be safe or should we dismiss him?"

If the Quiet Gazer recommends we return Mope to Tattoo form we will do so.

The visible one stops swaying for a moment, and a dazzled hawk suddenly falls over - it was, and remains, on an altar, but hidden by the shifting sets of flying creatures.

"th-hin we' sh-ud k'heel t'em aal~!!" the visible alraune notes, sweetly, smiling, ripping a host of obsidian blades from a nearby fungal creature, causing it to keel over, clearly dead. The others begin whipping deadly sharp pieces out, themselves, though leaving them alive.

She spins toward the bird - Shuvuu! - raising the blades in thorny tendrils, and moving them toward the creature.

"ee-hit we'hill bee s-had t'hoo kee-heel th-hees lu'uv'hlee burd... boot oh-hur lay-dhee com-hands eet~!! eye-him veh-rhy soh-rhy swee-hit b-hird~!!" she says, tears in her smiling eyes, "eye loh-v'd yuu...~"

Usawoti appears, suddenly, covering Shuvuu (though neither standing nor laying nor sitting on the bird).

Inarus: it's a dimension door effect.

A beautiful flower flower-woman - Quiet Gazer - sprouts next to him, flowing from his hand, separating itself, and standing next to him. Usawoti suddenly feels... alone, for the first time in a while.

"sisters please" a quiet voice Usawoti has gotten used to (though in his head) "sisters please" she turns toward the invisible one, "ser'sly-tea" she appeals, "i ask for you to trust in me and allow me to help us all before we are devoured - before any are" she says, urgently, softly.

In his mind, Usawoti hears a familiar voice, i would request you trust me as well
It is Quigaz'eter. :)

An eerie scratching sound begins to gather at the backs of the throats of the flying heads - one that Inarus recognizes from their battle on the islands some time ago as a prelude to their evil shrieking.

"You will destroy the intruders and acquire our full power over this realm." a powerful voice - from no visible source - echoes from seemingly out of nowhere and everywhere at once. "We will feast on them this day." it continues.

Eerie hollow knocking sounds and violent thumping mark the celebrations of the fungus as the fungal sacks begin to pulse more heavily.

Your turns! Initiative, one way or the other...

Those A-O's are actually exactly enough to beat the DCs...

Usawoti

In his mind, he hears, thank you

Aloud, you hear, "sisters please" she looks, "Ser'slys-tea"

A moment of silence.

Then, leaning forward, mischievously, "Yah, sure, why not?" A flower-woman appears, dropping the invisibility, and embraces her sister.

"Ser'slys-tea, you are making a mistake you cannot possibly fathom the depths of." says the voice.

"o-oh g-hohdz, w'hee 'er ah-ll g-hon-ha d-heye~!" says another with an irritated sigh, rolling her eyes, before then poutily hugging Qui'gaz'er.

"thank you so much" whispers Qui'gaz'er.

"Yes, you will all die right now." says the echoing power.

Powerful corrosive light plummets down on the plants.

There is a sudden light as Inarus feels his power, carefully husbanded previously, shift and move - briefly - in this environment, and suddenly the three flower women shift and flow together, and back into Usawoti.

Usawoti's jewelry just got a lot bigger.

A huge outpouring of energy slams into the place they all were, (adjacent to Usawoti), and several of the fungal creatures begin exploding. Usawoti feels - briefly - uncomfortably warm, but he and Shuvuu are quite okay, as more fungal creatures pop.

The flame stops.

"Your petty tricks will not save you - I gave such things to you and will break them, now." says the voice, in irritation. "You will all perish now! Devour when their power is gone!"

A not-quite-audible "pop" happens, and Usawoti feels a magical aura on him suddenly vanish. A powerful wave bursts out from him and floods into the surrounding fungi, a kind of radiated backlash into the hordes, grilling fungus of all sorts and spinning into a whirling funnel around him before it vanishes.

A lingering ring of fires and thick rings of blue-gray (though almost translucent) smoke continues for a few moments.

that worked better than i thought comes a the Lady's voice through telepathy. It's because you got us now, stupid! adds a second, briefly. ah-eye ahm nn-hot sh'hur how-oo yuu ta-halk't m-hee een-t'hoo thiis, b'hut th-hat wa-huz ehg-zhil-her-ay-'t'-hing~ adds a third.

we cannot do that again i am afraid says the first.

The horde surges forward, though lingering flames and smoke weakens the charge, and causes havoc among the flying heads.

As they prepare to slam into the freed creatures, Inarus watches the world slow.

Initiative: Inarus, allies, Usawoti, foes. Declare intentions, and I'll adjucate accordingly.
