Welcome all to the beginning of the Savage Worlds PbP of "The Stolen Land". Some basic posting guidelines:
Posting
In the PbPs I GM, I ask that posts are written in the third-person, present tense, thusly:
"Matrak Sen checks the undergrowth for traps."
NOT
"I check the undergrowth" or "Matrak Sen checked the undergrowth"
I dislike using bold for character speech and never do it myself (it always seems to me as if the PC is shouting).
Thoughts are represented in italics
Combat
I will draw the cards for all combatants and post the order. If someone has a Joker, I will place them separately and they can then post their go anywhere they like, even if that means stepping in and saying "I'm going before that attack happens".
I accept any form of rolling; the board's dice roller, Invisible Castle and home rolling are all fine.
Time
Please try to contribute at least once every 48 hours. In combat, when it gets to your turn you have 24 hours in which to post, or I will take your turn for you.
Please let us know if you will be away for an extended time.

I will be using the Julian/Gregorian month names rather than the Golarion ones. Thus in any game materials you may read:
Abadius (January)
Calistril (February)
Pharast (March)
Gozran (April)
Desnus (May)
Sarenith (June)
Erastus (July)
Arodus (August)
Rova (September)
Lamashan (October)
Neth (November)
Kuthona (December)

Just getting dotted.Likewise. EDIT:
If Kari and Korren are siblings, he will initially base his reaction to him on Kari's, but if he finds out that amongst Korren's ex-bandit pals was a member of the Two Knives (yes, those same idiots that shot his grandpa in the butt) he'll plot horrible misdeeds against him - but as he's such a wuss it'll never amount to anything beyond a burning desire to show him up.
You know what, let's go with that. You mention where you're from, I mention that I knew a guy from there named *something*, and thus some animosity is formed.
While we're at it, a list of all the connections so far, although some haven't been confirmed by both parties:
Korren is Kari's brother and doesn't trust Blackbow because he knows about Korren's dark past.
Matrak Sen likes Kari, but dislikes Korren for once associating with a member of the Two Knives clan.

From over on the old thread.
Pavla Rez wrote:Ardell, would you be OK with being a childhood friend of Pavla? They have the slightly noble background in common. Possibly she might have accidentally caused his bird phobia in some way I haven't thought of yet?
She might have a bit of Robin-Hoodish crush on Korren as well Just typing aloud.
I really like the idea of her accidently being the reason behind hos phobia. But like you, I can't really see how.
As for a less possitive connection i was thinking he might have tried to bed one of the ladies in the group with little result, instead making her annoyed.
We can work on it. Something will emerge. Or just use your less positive as he tried to bed her and got nowhere and we can see if the bird thing plays into that. Somehow. Canary pecked him and put him off his stroke?
Pavla's noble house is the Medvyed - "Endurance Overcomes All" being the family motto. The family have a long connection and respect for the forest and the creatures (and spirits) that live there. I'm not sure how this plays in yet, but we'll see.

They were playing hide and seek as children and Ardell got trapped in a dove-cote or pigeon coop with lots of flustered columbiformes.
"Do not fluster the columbiformes as a pigeon in the face often offends"?
Or they were feeding ducks and got accosted by incoming mallards. Waterfowl have a fair turn of landspeed when food is in the offing. I went to a wildfowl sanctuary once and nearly got mowed down by a flock of 25+ ducklings hurtling towards me. Funny, but oddly disturbing as well.

The creepy thing is... birds ARE dinosaurs. Maniraptoran theropods to be precise. They're still here, but now they rule the sky!
I know they're dinosaurs. I was more attempting to say that their most efficient evolution into birds doesn't count as fail and that crane got upset for no reason at all.

Run something 4E!! Rosey and I wanna play in a 4E game together, so you have 2 players already!!
As for advice, well, I can't really offer any, since I've not run a PbP, though I'm kinda, sorta, starting to plan one.
Of course I'd be possibly running something in 4e. I like Pathfinder as much as the next guy, but there's no way I'm going to run a game with it. Too much effort.

Yeah, he's just annoyed we invented the opposable thumb.

Anyway, would you all be kind enough to either convince me not to or give me advice?
Wasn't as familiar with the game's combat rules as I should of been, so the first combat basically became a debacle around half way through. I stopped paying as much attention as I should have mainly out of shame, so the players stopped paying attention, so I ended up dreading going into the subforum out of shame, and thus the first Dark Heresy game on these boards died a horrible death. Yeah, it had most of the problems most other pbps have, but I'm personally placing the blame on me not taking the time to read the f$%^ing Combat chapter before I agreed to run the game.

So that's an easy fix :)
You're talking to the wrong person if you're hoping to be talked out of running a game.
Most games can survive player loss fairly easily, but GM loss is pretty much a death knell. Just be prepared to tear your hair out and keep posting, even if the great goddess Apathia is sitting on your shoulder.

That explains why crossing a field of heifers feels dangerous. "Hmm. Things with opposable thumbs who bred us to be dumb. I think I'll wander over and stand there looking huge with my big cloven hooves."

Well, it helps that it was a completely different system than the one this game's going to be in. (Also, the adventure I was running wasn't exactly good. The rest of the book says that the starting characters are at least competent, then in the sample adventure you have a 15% chance of not spraining your ankle when you have to climb a steep hill.)
Anyway, I'm planning on running the adventure from the Eberron Campaign Guide. I'll post something on the other discussion threads tomorrow, and assuming I can get five people without posting a recruitment thread the discussion thread will be up within the next couple days.

Yes, that is a problem with Dark Heresy. or so I've heard, is that it renders characters laughably bad at some things.

Well, it's more that it takes a good GM to make the characters seem competent at lower levels when they only have a 30-40% base chance of succeeding. (Of course, that 30-40% is supposed to be for something difficult.)

Hi gang, hope you are all having fun. I have to say, I love the Savage Worlds system, and I am enjoying the fun characters you have all developed.
I got the pdf of Rivers Run Red today, and I just wondered if you are all wanting to carry on with this game. I take it that you do as you're all still posting!
As a heads-up; thigns are likely to get more involved as the game goes on, regarding book-keeping and info. It may be be necessary to start up a campaign wiki. I have an Obsidian Portal account, and have found that a good site. Just wondered if anyone had any strong feelings pro or con, or other suggestions.

Fabes, do you mind if I withdraw? My old gaming group appears to be stirring into life and Kingmaker is one of the games they are looking at - can't really be playing IRL then come back here once I know the plot! At least it's early on so I haven't got involved in the story much and you can still recruit a replacement if needed.
Thanks for the slot. Still getting used to SW - stuck a bit too much in the D20 mindset I think, but combat seems to be a bit nastier so maybe discretion is more advisable rather than just ploughing in...
