While Kelne speaks, Jorzan slips through the shadows, passing within inches of the oblivious guards, to move behind the west most guard. Zan, on the other side of the hall, moves through walls to arrive behind the other guard.

Jorzan stealth: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (18) + 24 = 42
Acrobatics to move through threatened square?: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (18) + 20 = 38
Zan stealth: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (20) + 16 = 36

With Zan appearing beside him, using the tip of his keen shortsword the Shadowdancer taps the guard in front of him on the shoulder. Leaving the blade kissing the guard's neck, he whispers "Trust me, it's a really, really good idea." accompanied by an ice cold smile and eyes promising nothing but death.

The guards had just been exchanging a knowing glance, no doubt planning to rush Kelne, or at least split up -- with one holding off the northman and one going for help -- when Jorzan and Zan make their appearance, freezing them in their tracks. Both hold still, then slowly raise their hands, dropping their polearms. One of them speaks slowly and distinctly. "You. Are making. A huge. Mistake. You want this creep?" he indicates their cloaked and helm'd prisoner with a sideways dip of his head, "He's all yours. But don't say I didn't warn you."

@Gul: For some reason, you have stopped. You can sort of feel the presence of the guards still standing next to you, but there is something else, as well...something more.

DC15 K(Nobility):
Now that you can get a closer look at it, while you can't precisely recognize the badge that the cloaked prisoner is wearing, it is definitely of the noble/good persuasion, reminiscent of coats-of-arms worn by paladins of Iomedae or Cayden Cailean or Sarenrae.

Slowly, it moves its hands toward the helm, waiting for a reaction from the guards.

Sir Justahl moved out of the side room now that the danger to Cassandra seemed to have passed. He looked at the prisoner...

"Who might this be? The insignia he wears seems noble, but I don't recognize it."
He looks at the prisoner using Detect Evil.

One of the guards notes Gul's hand moving. He gives Kelne and Jorzan a wide-eyed look. "Seriously, friends, you let that thing take that helm off, and all hell is gonna break loose here."

Justahl catches Jorzan's eye and nods at him to stand ready just in case he was wrong.
"We have no time for debate."
He reaches out and carefully pulls off the prisoner's helm.
"Who might you be?"

Not sure how DRA is going to play it, but you might need to make a DC 21 fort save, or end up staggered. Kelne too probably. Unless you have prot. evil up.

Depends on what your gaze setting is on; confused, shaken, stun, or damage. I would be immune to the Shaken condition due to my Aura of Courage, and maybe immune to the Confused condition due to my Aura of Resolve. The others, I don't know.

All of Gul's senses suddenly come flooding back, and he sees he is in a corridor -- an upper corridor, judging by the stonework -- and there is one guard on either side of him. Before him stands a Paladin of Izmir, whose holy aura must be protecting both him and his companion next to him (that would be Kelne -- Jorzan and Zan are also protected, but would be behind Gul, so I don't think he'd be aware of them yet.), but not the guards, who are both stricken with confusion and hold their heads in pain.

Under the cloak is a creature hunched over on goatlike legs and possessed of a featureless face, save for a large eye ringed by fangs.

DC19 K(Planes):
This is a Div, specifically; an Aghash, a creature that is normally rather evil.

Justahl ONLY:
This creature's aura is somehow both Good and Evil at the same time. The helmet that you hold, which was on the creature's head, has strong auras of necromancy and abjuration on it, and is quite powerful.

Aasimar Paladin (Shining Knight) L11 | AC29 (t11,ff28) | CMD28 | hp 133/133 | Save F17 R11 W13 | Percep +2 (Nouhves Percep +6)

Shocked by the appearance of this... creature, Justahl takes a step back. But reading the mixed aura, he stops in puzzlement. He waived the others to hold their attacks for the moment.
Then he remembers some things Cassandra said.

Cassandra wrote:

"In there. The man with the mouth-face is in there. He frightens me, but he needs me. He needs us, and Shining Man's horse is in there."

"Here he comes...the face-mouth man...oh, they're mad at him...they're going to put him in the cold, where he will die...oh no..."

"Cassandra," He whispered. "Is this... person somebody we are supposed to meet?"

Then addressing the creature, he nods gravely. "Hello. Can you understand me?"

Then, unable to hear over the yelling, he grabs the two confused guards, hustles them into one of the side rooms and shuts the door.

Seeing only the back of the creature, but observing the reactions of his companions and the guards to it, Jorzan and Zan glance at each other briefly. As a silent communication passes between them, they both then switch their attention to the former prisoner, ready to take it down should it prove hostile.

They're remaining silent, if stealth rolls are needed, go ahead and roll them.

The helmet comes off and before him is a man. A human, one dressed as a paladin. It panics and moves it's clawed hands towards the cowl of it's cloak, making a strange hissing noise and pulling the hood over it's baleful eye. Then, within seconds, it vanishes, only to reappear about 20 feet backwards.

The voice reaches into everyone's minds, a strange hissing sound it pleads,
::PALADIN!! You mussst help!::

Justahl frowns and looks at the strange helm which covered the creature. The thrum of magical power ran under his fingers. Strong power. He looks back up at the creature, now standing twenty feet back of where he was.
"With due respect, but what exactly are you? I have never seen your like before. Clearly you hold much in the way of magic power to be suppressed like that."
He tosses the creepy but interesting helm to Nasmarra.
"You will have to explain what it is that you want from me. I hope you will forgive our caution, but your aura; I have never seen such a mix of Good and Evil at the same time."

::It iss a Div, from Abaddon. But it no longer serves Ahrimane or the horssemen. It found help from the Dawnflower, and joined the Legionss of the Freed. Now it iss sent hear, to stop the mine, and ssave the sslaves. The dragondusst... iss very dangerous. Sstrong alchemy...::

When Justahl tosses the helmet to Nasmarra, it clangs to the ground. It seems that she is no longer present. The silent illusion of the woman stands in her place, unmoving and non-reactive. Her form is an illusion, a fact made clear by her left foot passing through the helm.

Back in the room with the Metallum, Nasmarra looks at the living metal creature with a cold, dispassionate eye. "The others say that we should spare you," she says to it aloud. She could communicate with it through telepathy, but she chooses not to. "I disagree. Your kind is rapacious and ravenous. You have infected our world for hundreds of years. Attempts to convince you to leave our world alone have failed. The only thing that has had any success is fighting back. That's what I'm doing right now." She bends down to pick up the piece of Metallum that the Mothermind offered as peace. She lifts up, laboring under the weight, and considers how best to end the threat of the Mothermind.

Gul sees the illusion of the woman broken, and speaks telepathically to those in the room.

::Where iss the woman? And what will you do with the guardss? Whatever you choose to do, you musst act quickly. Your presence here will not be a ssecret for long, now..::

Male Human Fighter 8, Ranger 3

Kelne's eyes narrowed at the sight of the foot interposed with the helm. It didn't really take much insight to suspect where Nasmarra might be.

"A moment," he said, striding back to the cage room. A short glance did indeed reveal Nasmarra struggling to lift the chunk of metal with murderous intent.

"Well, that's not going to work," he told her, "Not without a good deal more strength than you can bring to bear, at least. I appreciate that you feel strongly about this, but I don't appreciate that you're going behind our backs. Until now, I'd thought I only had to worry about Jorzan doing this kind of thing. So. What say we return to the urgent business at hand, and talk it all out later. There must be a solution that doesn't involve a choice between killing the thing or letting it free to run amok on our world."

Male Dwarf Fighter 7/Barbarian 2 AC29 HP128 F+14 W+6 R+6 Perception +14

"Where the heck is Kelne going? Seems everyone is running off. Heh, well I'd say let Jorzan fill these guards up with poison and lets toss em in a cell. They are running a death labor camp here. Let them get a taste of being behind bars."

Gul turns towards Hurin, and speaks directly to his mind. ::The dwarf shares its sense of justice. Do what you will, then.:: Then, without a second spared he vanishes again, reappearing next to Kelne. Seeing Nasmarra poised to attack the Metallum, Gul shouts out psychically. ::IT WILL ALLOW NO MORE SLAVES TO BE MURDERED! DO NOT TRY!::

Male Human Rogue(Poisoner) 5/ Shadowdancer 6| AC23 T17 F18; HP 88/88, CMD 22, F/R/W 6/14/7, Percep +20 Drkvsn 60', Init +6

When the strange hooded being suddenly disappears only to reappear instantly several feet behind him, Jorzan swears and spins quickly to face the creature once again.

When he hears the clank of the helm hitting the ground, he turns his head to look behind himself. Seeing the now obvious illusion of Nasmarra, he swears again, much more profusely and passionately this time.

As Kelne moves off and the creature disappears once more, Jorzan then turns to regard Hurin as the Dwarf makes his suggestion. Not willing to waste poison on the guards though, Jorzan merely grunts and steps closer to the two writing in pain guards and knocks them out with the hilt of his sword.

Glaring back towards the direction of the room the Mothermind is in, he growls "That witch!. We don't.have.time.for.this!" As he speaks, he takes a few seconds to decide whether he should head back to get her or if those of the party remaining should proceed down the corridor...

Male Dwarf Fighter 7/Barbarian 2 AC29 HP128 F+14 W+6 R+6 Perception +14

"Jorzan, let Kelne handle it. Help us check these other rooms here. We know what lies behind us the danger is in front of us now. Justahl and I can't do and go where you do. Help us keep Cassandra safe. Our group is getting too spread thin."

Hurin said as he began binding the two downed guards.

Lingering for one last glare towards where Kelne and the others are, Jorzan grunts and moves to explore the tunnel around the corner, where the guards and prisoner came from. While doing this, he sends Zan to double check the two side rooms to make sure that they're clear.

"A Div? I don't believe I have ever heard of them. As for the guards, we're just going to..."
Sir Justahl is startled at realizing Nasmarra is just an image, and he shakes his head with exasperation as the Div vanishes.
"Gone? What does that fool woman think she's..."
Then he realizes what she must be doing and he turns abruptly to glare back up the corridor.
"Thrice-damned fool! We have NO TIME to be distracted by this! Kelne! Jorzan! If she will not come then leave her! We must press on!"
He sets to helping Hurin with the guards.

Then he realizes what he must sound like to Cassandra. He reaches up and pats her leg.
"Ah, sorry Cassandra."
These little delays would tax the patience of a saint.

@Hurin: As you are binding the guards, one of them gives you a surprised look. "P-poison?! What? Come on, we're going willingly, is that really necessary?"

The other guard is giving you a flinty look. "And...hey...why are you doing this, anyway? What's with the kid? Aren't you dwarves all in the same boat? Axegrinder's always talking about how the Dragon Dust will let Dwarves "take back what is theirs", shouldn't you be helping us?"

"Huh? Shining Man, I don't know what's happening! Where's everyone going? What are we...what are we doing?"

@Gul, @Kelne, @Nasmarra: The mothermind flails listlessly in the face of Nasmarra's wrath. ::we WE did not...we...we must EAT we must MUST we have to or will DIE we are not we WE please spare US we beg we will LEAVE WILL LEAVE we promise:: Its attempts at communication are devolving into a useless jumble of images and impressions and ideas.

@Jorzan/Zan: The two side rooms are indeed clear. Some detritus in them tells you they are probably usually used for storage; there is very little dust, but there are slivers and wood shavings, dirt from boots, and other signs of frequent traffic.

Heading down the corridor, you see that it goes for another 80' or so and then turns sharp left. There is a dull red-orange glow, like firelight, on the walls, and you can hear the sound of miners working faintly in the near distance.

Male Dwarf Fighter 7/Barbarian 2 AC29 HP128 F+14 W+6 R+6 Perception +14

"And a Wise decision that ya are. No need for poison I guess as long as ye stay compliant. This Axegrinder fellow, I am guessing his skin is a tad darker than mine, am I right? As long as yer talkin you might as well keep going."

Glancing back to see if the others are coming as yet, Jorzan decides to press on, the better to scout out the possible dangers ahead. Zan, finished with his search, begins flying to catch up with his master.

If stealth's are needed again, feel free to roll 'em

@Hurin:
The guard looks baffled. "...darker?"
The other one kicks awkwardly at him from his position on the ground. "He means like duergar, dummy. Dark Dwarves." As comprehension dawns on his fellow, this guard looks up at you. "Nah, he ain't a duergar; he's a southerner. From Dambulla, he sez. Looks it, too; I met a couple of the old Stonelords back in the day and he's got the same complexion as 'em."

1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18 sense motive

Hurin looked at the two men.

Dambulla?, Dambulla, Dambulla. I think I have heard of that before . . . right?

"So what do you know of Stonelords? And what brought you down here?"

Hurin was hoping that Justahl would jump in here. He'd just as soon not be leaving a 200 mile long string of enemies and witnesses strung out behind the group, but working with a paladin he couldn't just put them to the boot or blade either. Besides, Hurin was not all that hard a dwarf, unless he had to be, for the life of the girl he could be, but it was a bit harder to kill people after you'd had a conversation with them.

He was beginning to get worried though. The group was splintered, it was obvious that there was no central leader. It was more of a powersharing type of thing between Justahl and Kelne with Jorzan loosely following them, but prone to go off on his own orbit. Cassandra was putting into words what he was thinking. What the hell were they doing?! At least Jorzan was ahead and on point. That boy had guts and balls to spare. The dwarf had made sure to watch what he called the boy as he was sensitive about the age thing. He actually was beginning to like him a bit more, his heart was in the right place where it came to the girl. He was rather like an older brother to her he supposed. Hopefully things upstairs would resolve themselves and they could move on as a group.

Or maybe they could use the creature as a weapon . . . "Hey if one of those metal tenticle things got loose down here what kind of damage you think it would do?"

Justahl patted her leg reassuringly.

"Nasmarra went back to deal with the Mothermind, the Div and Kelne went back to help or stop her. Jorzan went on ahead to scout. Hurin is asking some questions of the guards here, then we'll be off."
Hurin wrote:
"Hey if one of those metal tenticle things got loose down here what kind of damage you think it would do?"

Justahl shakes his head gruffly, still steamed at the scattering of the party.

"Forget it Hurin. What little I've heard of such things suggests you shouldn't come within ten feet of them. Ask your questions and shove those guards in the side room. We have our orders and they are to go forward. If the others aren't back when you've finished, they'll have to catch up."

Nasmarra looks at the div, quickly identifying it. The creature's inherent evil seems blunted somehow, and Kelne appears to be fine with its presence. She looks between the two, knowing that she won't have the ability to destroy it without their help; if she were to seize control of their minds, it would irrevocably break any trust the group might have in her. Jorzan's warning echos in her mind as well. With only the dwarf seeing sense, she knows that it is out of her hands. "Speak to it if you will, but how much free will does it have? All it knows is a ravenous hunger."

To Nasmarra ::Very well, it will share minds...::

The Div approaches the mothermind cautiously, hands outward and palms up. ::It will commune with you... Share it's mind, tell it what you see. Gul will do the same.::

Drax grinned to himself as he carved the words in the dirt with his knife. The shack nearby had nearly finished burning, so all he needed was for the right person to wander by and read his brood drenched etching. Curious, the chubby kid spoke up.

"All orks are pozzers? What does that even mean?"

He turned, flashing a crazed grin, and answered. "Listen, Kartesh, yer new to the faith of Gorum. Ya see, the clan of dwarves in these hills and tribe of orcs down by the river have been somehow inexplicably been living within ten miles of each other and not had a conflict that hasn't been diplomatically resolved in five decades. What does that tell ya?"

The kid was short and built like a sack of grain. Large for his height, but lumpy and padded looking. He didn't appear like he could lay out a beating, but he did look like he could survive one standing still. He looked over Drax suspiciously. The man was approaching the far end of middle-age, but besides his greying hair you could hardly tell. War made most men look years beyond their age, but it seemed to have the opposite effect on Drax. He was lean, muscular, agile and rarely had a serious expression on his fice. Kartesh shrugged. "It tells me that they haven't been having any war. Not exactly the way Gorum likes it, is that what you're trying to tell me?"

"Spot on, kid! Now, with Orcs and Dwarves hating each other being the natural order of things, it shouldn't take more than a gentle nudge to get em started on the proper path. Now all we need...," He turned to see a group of Orc warriors staring at him with their mouths hanging open, obviously surprised by the sheer audaciousness of the scene before them.

The tallest one pointed and stammered, "H-h-h...HEY!!"

Drax looked over the Kartesh. "All we need is a few bodies. Now do your thing. And remember to praise Gorum!" A psychotic smile spread over his face, and wounds opened up on his body pouring out blood that burned the ground around him. Drax raised his pick and charged.

The kid stared for a second, bemused. What an interesting journey I have undertaken... He then shouted to the sky, "Hail to my Lord In Iron!!" and transformed into a hulking four armed reptilian beast and followed Drax into the carnage.
