Murat stares at the cup of rum. Last time these guys gave me drinks it didn't turn out so well. He sets the cup down and hops into a hammock. He pretends to sleep but keeps his ears open.
Grak Firethrower
Grak takes the rum and takes a whiff. He stares at the cup for awhile and then looks around to see if everyone else is drinking there's. "I suppose it might help me sleep," he thinks to himself before drinking it.
Fort save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Caul takes the rum gladly and downs most of it in the first hard pull he takes. Ah, missed you old friend. Tomorrow I should start learning names, but tonight I sleep.
Black Caul let the weariness take him, his last thoughts before fading
It's good to be home.
Wade Willhelm

Wade decides against drinking his rum after hearing about the shop on board. He makes note of those that didn't drink theirs and waits till they and everyone around them falls asleep before taking their rum too and stashing all of it in his locker.
Stealth +guidance (remember that sleeping gives a -10 to Perception): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Wade takes advantage of his racial ability to see in the dark, but the fact that he was a fairly large man on a creaking boat meant that he does accidently cause some noise. Hopefully people will stay asleep

In the morning the sound of a bell wakes you, as the rest of the crew gets ready, pulling on shirts and getting ready, one man takes a swig of something in a bottle. A group of men stand near the stairs leading to the upper decks.
hurry up, ye landlubbers! Anyone late for roll call is due for three lashes in bloody hour!
Murat
The bell causes Murat's body to react on drilled-in routine. He springs out of the hammock and pulls on his boots and grabs his hat. He says nothing to anyone as he heads to the stairs. Maybe today will bring a fight. I want to see this crew in action. Figure out if they're worth my time. In the meantime, do your job and avoid nonsense.
Ordrax Silentback
Ordrax rolls out of bed and gets himself ready. He makes sure that he remains in the group as the head up the stairs. He puts himself in the middle of just about everything. Never last and never first either.

Before Vel can get on deck one of the men next to the stairs stops him. going somewhere? Awfully fast, eh? he laughs and the 4 other men laugh as well. I say, it's Three lashes if ye are late, Eh, Varn? one man asks. And the first man nods. Aye... That's three. I see no reason for ye to be heading up deck too fast...
Veltisiel Ekai
"Three lashes? Are you sure you want to go through that, friends? I wouldn't want to cause you harm." Veltisiel smiles a wicked grin, and his eyes flash a golden color "After all, prismatis!" with a flick of the wrist, presumably catching the pirates off-guard due to his relaxed tone right up until the cast spell, a cone of color washes over them as Veltisiel continues to stride forward, slowed down from a fast walk to a controlled long stride.
DC 17 Color Spray. Should take out at least a few of them.
Murat
Murat stops and turns to the confrontation. Ah, a magician of some sort. He will prove to be useful.
"Morons." Murat mutters. Looking at Veltisiel he adds, "Hope that wasn't your only card, mate. Those boys are going to be lookin' for payback."
He will lag behind just a moment to ensure no further violence continues...
Veltisiel Ekai
"Of course not. Kuid see oli minu kõige nähtavam ja seega hea Avanäituseks jõu. Minu peenem oskusi paremini reservis."
He smirks, "And if they want more, it sounds as though they shall have to answer to the Captain. They were unharmed by me, so any 'retaliation' would simply be aggression, and would be punished accordingly."
Murat
Murat grunts and nods. Then looks around at everyone else. "Get up on deck you lollygagging sons of lemures! MOVE IT! Tööle Nüüd!"

Black Caul saunters up the stairs.
What in the bloody seas is that son-of-a-devil doing? That won't go over well.
Caul grins a wide, jagged, toothy grin. He's got spirit, though. Gotta give 'em that.
Grak Firethrower
Grak wakes up with the bell. Realizing that he slept more soundly than he expected, he reaches down to make sure he still has his alchemy crafting kit. "Wow, that rum hit me harder than I thought it would. I better be careful," he thinks to himself. He gets up, relieved that he doesn't have a hang-over, and starts for the stairs.
He pauses when the men accost Vel to see what happens.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
"Hmm, color spray, useful for these mobs. I wonder if he needs a spell book or if it comes to him naturally. I'll have to inquire later," he thinks. When the other hobgoblin starts up the stairs, he quickly moves up beside him to hopefully avoid a confrontation himself.

Those who fail the con check are Fatigued after work, and if you remember how to take ship actions then do so. From what you have posted I have Murat working diligently (granting him a +2 on his checks), ordrax working Diligently, Wade heading to the shop(-2 on checks), and Grak is sneaking,
@there is nothing of importance here in the foredeck, only other Swabs doing their job.
@Wade:
You make it down to the quartermaster's shop where Cut-Throat Grok is "checking barrels"what? she asks when you come near. She scowls at you and leans against the door(in area A9). Two lockers, two chest, a wooden and a metal trunk all sit in the room, all next to a huge barrel of what appears to be rum. If ye want stuff it'll be up for debate... I can give ye most things. And if it's your stuff ye be looking for that'll come at standard price.

"What could I get for a few servings of Rum? Do you have anything just taking up space? Maybe a book or two?"

The quartermaster scoffs What? One day on board and you already have 4 bottles of rum? Ha! Perhaps if you got me a bottle of wine I'd be willing to trade. But with that rum I hand out every night ye be nearly running a very bad risk. Spill any of that and it's three lashes. Twice is with the cat. And if you do it on purpose, that's a keelhauling.

Also, if it's not too much trouble, if I could get my entire kit returned to me, I would greatly appreciate it...."

Taking a Trip to the shop grants you a -2 to your check. Either way you get a 8 or a 9 and fail your check, which actually results in a punishment for lazyness, because Kroop is Drunk.
Mr.Plugg watches your work and scowls. This is Rubbish! You haven't done this in your life, have ye? Alright, your spending the rest of the day in the Bildge catching rats! Mr.Plug has a few men grab you and he escorts them and you down the ship lower and lower until you reach the trapdoor leading to the Bildge. One of the men struggles to get the door open before they throw you down with a splash on dirty water. See if you can get at least one rat will ya? they then close the door on you. The Bildge is the farthest down area
@Wade: Unfortunately the Tiefling is busy in the Bildge. Grok shakes her head. Look, Rum cost two silver, so, ill consider your given bottles there one silver each, alright? And I'm selling at full price, take your pick, she opens the second locker, which has a pile of everyone's stuff, and a few more things, like a fiddle, a few bottles, and a coin pouch.
Veltisiel Ekai
Wait- did I visit the shop? Because if I didn't, then I wouldn't have taken the -2 and failed, and thus be in the bilge. However, if I did, then I would have been there to help with the Diplo. How can I have both visited the shop and not visited?
DM waz up?
|
Taking the action to visit the shop is less going and taking a reduction, it's more like holding off and going when you have the chance. This means you can plan to go to the shop and slack with your work, but if your caught between work and the shop you are stopped and suffer the consequences. Unfortunately the cook has the worst time if this, for half the time he's directly under Mr.Plugg, who is a high level NPC that will cause alot of problems if you try to attack him.
Grok stops Wade. hold on ya lout! I'll get the coin! she takes the pouch back(which has much more than 5 silver in it) and hands Wade the five silver in return. There, don't gamble it away...
Veltisiel Ekai
Okay, I guess. Doesn't make much sense to me, but whatever. So, I'm in the bilges... because I... started my shift and didn't do well? How does that work? Am I in the bilges after I failed my job? Or during my job, when I was failing? I don't quite understand the timing. Anyway, what kind of check do I need to make to catch rats? Also, while I'm down here, is there anything interesting or valuable?
DM waz up?

After you Failed, it's only halfway through the workday, you would have spent the next day in the Bildge, but Me.Plugg was in charge so no such luck. Make Perception checks to find rats, and catch them. Honestly though he more threw you down here as punishment not as a new job. You'll be let out at bloody hour as they begin lashing.
The Bilge is rather dank, wet and messy. Another man, that one that scowled at you last night, sits in the dark. So, I see ye got in with the wrong people he says. Or possibly just had a run of bad luck...
Grak Firethrower
Grak looks around on the foredeck and shrugs that there's nothing of interest. He takes a moment to look out over the ocean to see if he spots any land. He then continues with his duties for the day, waiting for dinner. "Going to have to team up with some others. It will take too long to scout the whole ship by myself. I'll also need help talking with the crew. Not a strength of mine. Vel seems talkative." he thinks to himself as the day goes on.
Veltisiel Ekai
Yay, finally!
Veltisiel tries again, "It would seem as though one Master Plugg has taken a disliking to me, and threw me in here as punishment for not fishing fast enough- an ironic sentiment, if I ever heard one. I'm afraid that we got off to a bad start last night, what's your name? I'm Veltisiel."

The man sighs. "Don't bother... I'm scheduled for a Keelhauling tonight. Got caught last night sneaking into the quartermaster's store... Broke a lock on one of her lockers...I'm sure the orc is having a Hay day trying to get it open... Hehe... Was never any good with a pick...
With all the water down here, it's surprising that a rat could even survive. You spot a knife floating in the water, it's wooden handle keeping it afloat, and it looks like it's been altered into a useable weapon...
@ the quartermaster's shop: Sleep with the Captain, that's what she says, smiling. Or, if ya can, get me a bottle of some whiskey, I'd be willing to give ye back yer stuff then...
Veltisiel Ekai
"I am sorry to hear that." Vel's mind whirls as he casually picks up the dagger and stows it.
He continues to look around the bilges for perhaps a dropped coin, or anything else,
If I can make more checks to catch rats, I'd do that too.

You do infact find one rat, drowned in the water... At least it's a catch.
The man sighs. "ya know, I see ya pickin' round, and how Scourge glares at ye... He hates ye guts! Don't reckon why... But I got a goodie for ya, all ya have to do is promise ta' make Scourge suffer!" he says, holding up a small gem. "A ruby! Aught ta be round 50 whole pieces! And it's yours! Before they take it off me torn body..." yhe hands you the ruby... Although it is rather small and you can tell he's exaggerating the price, still it might be useful.
@Ordax, you notice Scourge berating those men who had Tried to stop Vel. The conversation is quite heated, However nothing important is really said, other than a long sting of curses at their failure...
Veltisiel Ekai
"Thank you so much, friend. The man will burn, slowly, that is for certain." Veltisiel grins a wicked grin as he holds up the ruby, "And this will be exactly what I need to get started. If I have my way, he'll suffer in Hell for all eternity."
Untrained Appraise check to determine the ruby's true value.

At the end of the day when he is back in his bunk.
How to handle this one.
When Ordrax gets the chance to be near Murat, he will ask to speak to him alone. He makes sure that they are alone and out of earshot of anyone.
I notice you were involved with the mess that Tiefling created this morning. Be careful I saw that Scourge was non to please with the his men and their failure. I would expect there to be more trouble coming his way. I tell you this because you seem to keep your head down and do things in a...quieter way. I like that. Keep your head down and be ready for anything.
Ordrax walks away
That should get to the correct ears soon enough....I hope.
