Masao
Masao doesn't particularly feel the need to stay in an inn either, but it might be safer... I'll leave it up to Samant and Arwen what they want to do... something tells me Arwen will prefer an inn, though maybe not.
Arwen Hollower
:D Well, he have had it his share of outside camping and it wont be so bad with other people. The old man have to get used to it hey? Not all adventures are in the city :P
Following behind the younger ones, Arwen didn´t particularly try to compete or keep up so fast with them. Fully aware of the speed and haste they were making he rather enjoyed this. Sleeping outside was ok but ... with age you started to appreciate some comfortable things in your life Haah, we can keep going and sleep outside although food is the only problem here. I don´t miind sleeping outside. I have done it plenty of time when i was younger... and believe me, you will hear me plenty of times and more what I have done.. although its not so far in the past yet. Do not mind me
Masao
"Mind you, Arwen-sama? of course not! Your presence honors us, and your tales would be welcome, I'm sure you have seen and done much that would enlighten us all. We'll stop at the first village and pick up food for the journey, enough to last til we arrive at Alvis, at any rate. And we can pick up any other needed supplies while we are there."
Masao will pick up a backpack, bedroll, waterskin and 10 torches in the first village, plus 4 days of trail rations, and enough regular food for the first day. That's a total of 5 gp, 9 sp, leaving 39gp, 1sp for everyone else for whatever they need - that's assuming Samant shared the 20gp acquired from selling stuff from the baron's place with the rest of us. If not, it still leaves 19gp, 1sp for everyone else to buy stuff.
Hob Smith
Hob buys 8 days of trail rations (8 gold), some fresh food (3sp) and, after being scolded by Kin, a a gp on a bottle filled with berry jam. 9gp 3 sp, so 29gp 9sp left.
GM_Jacob
Samant, if you really needed to do anything on the journey, jusy say so and I'll work it in as best as I can.
The party moves south, slightly off the edge of the road to avoid attention. Hours pass with steady plodding and small-talk. Hours turn to days. By the middle of the third day, he journey so far has been mostly uneventful. As the party rounds a bend in the road, you all see a large tree has fallen across the road.
Masao
perception 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
not bad, but couldn't make a 25 on my best day
Masao pauses and draws his weapon as he whispers, "This tree placed here is no accident... someone wants to slow us down in this spot." He moves to go around the tree, trying to keep trees between himself and generally forward (not having heard trouble to the east). Still whispering, "Looks like we've got trouble."
Arwen Hollower
Hm.... I don´t know but the cutting here looks like it has been done intentionally. Why is that as Arwen wonders with puzzled look
I guess we should be prepare for something. I have no idea about this region or on goings but if slave traders are moving freely here... then what about bandits
Perception 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
KN: local 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Hob Smith
What strength would a large creature need to move a tree like this (just looking for how heavy it is)
Also, can we declare actions now?
If so, can Hob cast enlarge person on Samant, who is following behind? It is a full round action to do so (Samant has an axe, which will help if we need to move the trees).
GM_Jacob
Hob, we're not in initiative time, so do whatever you want in whatever order you please. Also, great question. I had to see what a tree weighed, and found out that a good sized oak could weight as much as 8,000 lbs. We'll say that this one weighs 5,000 lbs for easy math. As such, a strength of 20 will allow a single large person to push the tree. If two more medium creatures help, a strength of 16 for the large creature will suffice. It will take 2 rounds worth of time to move the tree.
Masao
Masao looks about as he whispers to the others, replying to Arwen. "Bandits are a good guess, though it could be the slavers if word got out as to the nature of our business with the baron. Best be wary, either way." Then he grows silent and listens as well as looks around.
Hob Smith
Hob fishes into a pocket and pulls out a twine necklace with copper and bronze pendants on it - a necklace he built this morning while poring over the Baron's book.
"Samant. Here." he says quietly
Stopping in his tracks, he turns around to the approaching Samant and attempts to put it round his neck while chanting strange words.
Cast Enlarge Person on Samant
Masao
Masao nods to Arwen and begins to scout around, looking and listening for danger...
perception 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
He's not much of a scout but he does the best he can, not straying TOO far from where the large Samant and Hob work to clear the path.
Hob Smith
Deep in concentration Hob places the neclace around Samant, then touches each of the tiny pendants in turn. As he touches them he speaks a word and a tiny red rune lights up.
GM_Jacob
As Samant and Hob start to work on the tree, Arwen and Masao work their way around the tree. As Arwen moves to the East of the tree,
Masao moves to the west of the tree, but doesn't notice anything unusual.
Arwen Hollower
Perplexing little bit and unsure if he heard it correctly Arwen moves slowly back to others looking normal but whispers to Hob and Samanth I think I heard some nice just a moment ago. Horse snorting several yards, down that treeline where I just came from. I am not sure are we being watched but... I will inform Masao and will circle with him to that place
Moving closer to Masao and stratching his beard, Arwen whispers to Masao and repeats same as to Hob and Samanth Not sure what is going on but lets go find out
Masao
Masao moves silently as in not speaking, not using stealth, which he doesn't have any lol with Arwen towards the sound, sword out and ready for whatever might happen.
Hob Smith
The runes on the necklace lit up with myriad prismatic colours, and slowly Samant grows - first an inch or two, but then faster and faster, til he towers above his companions.
"Huh"says Hob "So that's what it does"
GM_Jacob
As Masao and Arwen work around the fallen tree, your hear a voice in the woods Now! Two bandits step out of the treeline and prepare to fire arrows. Hob, you act here, then the bandits, then the surprise round is over.
Bandit initiative
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Hob and the bandits will act in the surprise round. Then, initiative order is as follows:
Hob
Bandit 1
Samant
Bandit 2
Masao
Kin
Arwen
Hob Smith
Feeling his temper rising as he sees poor old Arwen shot, Hob desperatley tries to clam himself and remember the arcane instructions Masao taught him. Let the brutal bandit feel arcane retribution.
No spell failure on wands, right?
damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
With his free left hand Hob draw a much larger stick: his newly carven club.
std: use wand. move: draw weapon.
GM_Jacob
Masao
Masao casts and fires directly into the closest bandit with a ray of frost
then moves up closer to the opponent 5' step away from the bandit
ranged touch 1d20 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 1 - 4 = 13
damage 1d3 ⇒ 1
Arwen Hollower
mhm, there is always a minimum of 1 damage if he doesn´t have DR but.. can´t be sure.
HP:5/9
The arrow hitting quite hard at leg Arwen clearly almost fall down. Praying his goddess Arwen reaches to the air and releases burst of warm air around him affecting everyone [exlude bandits] with sudden pewr of healing Postive channeling1d6 ⇒ 4 EDIT: HP:9/9
Hob Smith
Hob clambers over the tree towards the bandit threatening Kin, waving his club in his left hand and the wand in his right.
Move towards bandit 2. Wand Bandit 21d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
GM_Jacob
Masao's bolt strikes the 1st thug, forming icicles on his nose and ears. Kin swoops down onto the already hurt 2nd bandit and peck wildly at his eyes and face. The man, already shaken from the magic missile, can barely react to defend himself. Had 1 HP remaining, Kin does 1 nonlethal, staggered. Hob climbs over the tree and blasts the 2nd bandit one last time with his wand. He is throw bodily to the ground, and does not move.
3 rounds remaining on enlarge person.
The 1st thug, seeing his partner go down, turns and runs back along the treeline, giving a sharp whistle as he goes.Withdraw.
Masao, I didn't move you on the map, because in your last post you said you moved up closer, but then you said you took a 5' step away. Depending on which it is, you are either on square closer or farther away from the running bandit. I'm also not using a token for Kin, since he is so mobile, and tiny tokens are almost invisible.
