I think Obscuring Mist is centered on the caster. Fog Cloud does the trick, but is level 2. I might be wrong.

Thanks DW, I appreciate the kind words. Obscuring mist does indeed center on the caster.

Dark Archive

And with his eyes heavy from lack of slumber the pyromaniac alchemist rambled off to slumber perchance to recharge his batteries. See you guys in several hours :)

Correct, and I should have caught that since I even hyperlinked the spell for you.

Male(s) 27 Ducks in a James suit Duck 27/ Expert 5

Moving in the morning, so it may be tomorrow night or Friday before I can update.

Thanks for the heads up. It's greatly appreciated. Good luck on the move!

Staying in Brooklyn, I hope.

i will be out of town, this sunday and monday, might be able to post but no guarantees on internet. Feel free to drag me along, or make a roll as needed.

Yup, just a few blocks away. On the very day that everyone in the borough is double parked while it's raining. But it's done. Let us never speak of it again. We'll wrap up this fight shortly (even carrying a coffin you're more than a match for a bunch of farmers) we just have to see if we run the risk of tipping over the professor.

Male Human Oracle of Lore 2

Glad to hear the move went. I hate moving, but keep doing it. Looking forward to dropping the professor!

Where in Brooklyn are you? I was born there, and have had many family and friends in various neighborhoods over the years.

Male(s) 27 Ducks in a James suit Duck 27/ Expert 5

I'm in Gowanus now, not far from the F train.

Beautiful eulogy James!

Male(s) 27 Ducks in a James suit Duck 27/ Expert 5

Thanks!

James:
I've been looking at the party make up: all chaotic or neutral, mostly good, with even one CN character. I'm wondering if a paladin in the group will not be more frustration than pleasure. I can play open minded, but I'm just wondering, as we are early in the game and the mechanics haven't showed up yet. I could still keep the same background and concept but apply it to a different class.

Though I like the paladin, I guess I mostly don't want a 'my character vs the party' dynamic, and the odds are against me it seems.

Let me know if you're confident or if you also feel the same way. We still have plenty of time it seem before he flexes his holy might.

Spoiler:
I don't know if that will come up just yet. Ultimately, I think the other players know you're playing a paladin and will hopefully be willing to work with you and I can be flexible- ultimately, the good part of your alignment is more important than the lawful part in my opinion. While shortcuts outside of the law may come up here and there, there's always another way that suits your character. We'll see what happens and figure it out.

James:
Great, thanks!

Are Arasmes and Evelyn the only ones there looking through the trunk? I know the other did not seem in favor, and Alison stated she was somewhere else. If none of the others are in the room, I have Evelyn bring the book with read me on the cover into the main room and see what the others think.

Male(s) 27 Ducks in a James suit Duck 27/ Expert 5

Well, I had Kendra bring the trunk down to the sitting room (it's not that big) for you guys to open. As far as I know Alison's the only one that's left the room.

thanks, hat gives me a better sense of things.

I'm catching up after a busy 24 hours, but glad to see everyone moving along. It seems like we have a real good group.

Professor's books (Just to keep this straight in my own head)

Newest: has the words Read me now! scratched into the cover.

Three more have notes tucked under the covers indicating they must be brought to Montangie Crowl, professor of Antiquities at Lepidstadt University:
"On Verified Madness" black, a treatise on aberrations, creatures of the Dark Tapestry and their worship.
"Serving Your Hunger" deep crimson emblazoned with the symbol of a fly, its thorax resembling a skull. A holy book of Urgathoa
"The Umbral Leaves" midnight blue embossed with a skull holding a length of chain in its jaw. A translation in Taldane of Zon Kuthon's holy text

Fourth has a note on the cover indicates that this is to be brought to Judge Embreth Daramid and gives her home address in Lepidstad:
"Manual of the Order of the Palatine Eye." Rich purple and rimmed in steel. On the cover is a brass scarab with an eye in it's carapace. A tiny triangular keyhole sits next to the scarab in the book's cover. The Esoteric Order of the Palatine Eye is a secretive group with interests in all things arcane and political.

Hello to James as I'm driving by Gowanus on the BQE.

Dang, evelyn is killing the dice, can't wait for them to fail me once combat starts.

17, 19, 25, 16, 14, 15, and a 6. not bad at all

Male(s) 27 Ducks in a James suit Duck 27/ Expert 5

Hey, Jormungandr, where did the splash weapon mastery feat
come from? I haven't seen that one in the PRD.

I'm starting a new campaign...

Let me know if you're interested.

Sounds interesting, DW, and tempting, but I really shouldn't add another pbp. Thanks for the invite, though.

Male(s) 27 Ducks in a James suit Duck 27/ Expert 5

Me too, thanks for the invite DW!
Jormungandr, are you still around? Haven't heard from Alison in a few days.

Male(s) 27 Ducks in a James suit Duck 27/ Expert 5

It looks like Jormungandr (and Alison by extension) is MIA from what I can see. Are you folks interested in getting a fifth person on board or are you ok with four?

I know one or two very good and reliable player, from other games, if needed.

Male Human Oracle of Lore 2

My inclination is to vote for adding a new player since there is so much demand for pbps, but I know that the AP is built for four. My ultimate vote is whatever is easiest for you, James.

Grand Lodge

I've been reading along and enjoying your spin on CC very much. The detail you put into it and the npcs has been a lot of fun to read. If you guys decide to add another I'd love to get on the alternate list. I don't always post every day, but sometimes I post several times a day and I'm dependable. (Longest running pbp on these boards is four years in now.)

It looks like it's been just under two weeks since Jormungandr posted anything anywhere, including the games he was running, so who knows what happened. I've had my own periodic disappearance, and two weeks isn't that long, so Id suggest giving him another couple of days to pop up. If not, adding a fifth might be good, as I tend to think the more people posting, the more likely things will keep rolling.

Male Human Oracle of Lore 2

Hey All,

I'm going to be out of town from Thursday to Saturday. So feel free to GMPC me, or just pretend that Arasmes is spaced out and willing to go along with whatever ideas everyone else has.

I think we should go ahead and recruit. To me, 2 weeks, without letting us know in any way, is just too long.

I'm good with Ithuriel. I'm still reading their Eberron campaign!

Why didn't the paladin make us ask permission????? :)

I'm good with ithuriel.

I'm in a big rush. I should have more time to post in max 14 hours.

Male(s) 27 Ducks in a James suit Duck 27/ Expert 5

Okay, Alison will be a support NPC in case Jormungandr comes back. Thanks for the kind words, ithuriel. If you have a character in mind, we can start talking about them. 4 reliable players is a good number, but I feel like it's also nice to have a 5th.

Grand Lodge

No- the opportunity caught me off guard. Nothing prepared yet. I'm tossing around different ideas right now. Some initial thoughts:

1) A rival professor from Lepistadt University who heard whispers that Lorrimer was up to something and is hoping to ride his coattails to fame and success.

2) A loyal house servant (possibly bastard child) in Ravenegro who won't sit idly by when he hears suspicions that the death was not an accident after all.

3) Kendra herself takes up her father's mantle when it becomes clear that his death was not an accident.

4) A detective Lorrimer had privately engaged years ago to independently investigate his death whenever and however it might occur.

5) An associate of Father Grimburrow who wants a hand in whatever is going on after what he has seen (both the walking dead and your willingness to raid church resources).

6) A Pathfinder who Lorrimer had contacted for help when things started to look complicated.

I'll try to narrow it down into something solid by tomorrow. If any of those hooks appeal to you or don't work at all (as Kendra might not) let me know and I'll adjust accordingly.

Oh, I like 1 and 2!

Male Human Oracle of Lore 2

Or you could've just showed up late. "Hey guys. Sorry about the funeral. Got stuck in the mud in Caliphas. What'd I miss?"

On second thought, your ideas sound better. I think 1 and 5 sound like the most spicy myself.

Wow, lots of cool ideas, Ithuriel. Of course, it's really up to you, but the idea of Kendra joining up with us is interesting. I just don't know how feasible that is in terms of whether she plays an important role as an npc. For what it's worth, I also like 2 & 5.

Now that I think of it, we could definitely use a second paladin... ;-p

Nice. I was getting ready to figure out what kind of checks I needed to verify the various items. Instead, now I'm going to crash, and will post up in the morning.

Grand Lodge

Hahah! Second paladin indeed. :)

I've been sketching out a rival professor but a decision as to character class has eluded me so far. It's a tough one because I'm already playing a universalist wizard and a standard bard so I don't want to rehash too much. Looking at Bard (archivist) or (detective), or maybe a diviner or abjurer. Also still toying around with the idea of Lorrimer's gardener / grounds keeper who would be a sorcerer of some questionable bloodline who the professor took under his wing partly to mentor him and partly to keep an eye on him. Abyssal or aberrant most likely, though verdant might also be interesting.

At least it is narrowed down to two rough concepts :) I'll see what I can do today about finalizing this today. We have a three week old baby so my scheduling is a little wonky right now, but normalizing over time.

ithuriel wrote:

Congrats, Ithuriel! That's awesome. There's nothing bigger in life than the arrival of a new baby. God bless, and good health you all.

Same here! Congratulations and Best wishes!

Grand Lodge

Thanks guys :) First baby so we are figuring it out as we go.

Here's a roll for starting wealth 2d6 ⇒ (5, 2) = 7 x10 = 70.
Exactly average :)

Nearly done. I went with the diviner in the end. I think he will be primarily a utility / control caster leaving the bulk of the offensive casting in Luka's hands (or sword) but we'll see what happens over time.

Here's my guy. Background is just a few sketchy notes right now, but that will be next.
