Wanting to take the man alive, Harry steps forward and tries to sweep the shotgun from the fellows hands once again.

Evelyn turns and runs after George towards the gunshots, her pistol clutched in her hand.

The groundskeeper slams two more rounds into his shotgun, snaps it closed, and fires both rounds. The first just barely clips Morroway, while the other is deflected at the last moment by Harry as he rushes forward and knocks the shotgun from his hands. Meanwhile, Morroway's second shot finds its mark, and finally takes down its target.

Out of combat! Morroway, you got lucky and only received a flesh wound from the shotgun. The groundskeeper is unconscious, and the house is giving off a reddish light as it burns remarkably fast.

Grand Lodge

David, runs towards the booming shots, and is relieved to see that none of hi allies are bleeding out, and the assailant has been stopped.

"Ah, damn!" Morroway cries, clutching his side. It didn't feel too bad, but that could be the shock. He decided, given the circumstances, to worry about it later nonetheless.

"Get to the cars. We have to get to a hospital and alert the fire department!"

-Posted with Wayfinder

The nearest hospital is in Rochester, about an hour's drive away. It's a bumpy ride, but with your First Aid, you can keep them stable.

Anything else? Or straight to the hospital?

"Are you addressing me? You think I'm going to lie in the streets while gunmen are about and the house is going up in flames? Are you mad?" Morroway holds his hand against the wound and makes for his car. He still carries his gun. "Come on then, Rochester is an hour away. We should stop at the first house with telephone service to get the firemen down here."

George says"*E brought the proof- which keeps Us out of the asylum, '' while carrying the reptile corpse.

So, are you trying to find a phone, or going straight to the hospital?

-Posted with Wayfinder

The maid and the elder Trufant seem stable enough that you can spare a few minutes to find a telephone. However the area is sparsely populated, and you drive for some time without finding a home equipped with a telephone. You finally find one halfway to town; there is almost certainly nothing left of the house, but you do manage to report the fire to the relevant authorities.

Continuing on into town, you get the wounded to the Rochester City Hospital. There, they are ushered into surgery to remove the bullets. As they are whisked away, a nurse approaches the group.

"I saw that your friends were shot. Should I send for a constable?"

Morroway addresses the woman with authority. "No, we've already been in contact with them." He frowns at the recollection of the police opening fire on unarmed house staff.

"I will need some attention when you have a spare hand." He adds, noting his own wound.

"Oh, of course, sir! Apologies; I didn't realize that was your own blood. We'll get that taken care of right away." She fetches a doctor for you.

What's the next move, everybody?

take the Post Rd to Washington to meet President Roosevelt

B/M/S: 4/5/3 - Brawl 4, Melee 7, Marksman 7, Stealth 2 B/F/I/C/C/K: [][][][][][] - K.O.: []

Obviously

You plan on driving? The roads are not high quality; I know of no post road leading from Rochester to D.C.; I think you'd be taking the Susquehanna Auto Trail, which would probably take 2-3 days. You could take a train, which would have you in D.C. by morning.

Do we still have the gameskeeper with us? We need to question him before we move on, I should think. Or if he dies, I want to exanine his body

I believe you took the groundskeeper's body with you, but no one said they were trying to stabilize him with First Aid...

Ah...our bad then....well if we cannot retcon then can we examine his body? Just want to see if it is like that of the alien body we have.

I'll let you retcon, if you want to stabilize the groundkeeper. It'll be tougher than usual, being a lizardman and all.

probably there to the city and then via old route 1 or the train

I'd say the train looks like the better option. Thoughts?

B/M/S: 4/5/3 - Brawl 4, Melee 7, Marksman 7, Stealth 2 B/F/I/C/C/K: [][][][][][] - K.O.: []

Agreed.

Morroway ushers the others back towards the cars and lights a cigar. "Mr... Winkle, you said you knew the President? I suggest we take the next train to the capital and report this incident. The trouble will be getting our evidence into a train car. But we've not a moment to waste."

Who is our doctor?? Maybe heal the groundskeeper so we can take him with us as living proof.

Victor's the one with First Aid.

How do you plan on getting the bodies on the train?

This is the Rooseveltian/Wilhelmine era where people travelled with trunks on overnight trains. I would gather that one of us would be travelling with one large enough to put one of those monsters in there.

George looks at Morroway and says, "Van Winkle, we are knickerbokkers. Why yes I do know President Roosevelt, he and I were in the Rough Riders. Lucky for those Spaniards only the officers had horses, Teddy didn't want the war to be over before we got into it. Er, anyway, we can stow one of them in my travel trunk. It shan't be too difficult."

Sorry for the late post.
First Aid: 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (3, 3) + 5 = 11
We may need to keep the body hidden, if not, there will be a lot of questions.

Can you DM bot me tomorrow? Thanks.

Victor struggles valiantly, but ultimately fails to stabilize the lizardman's unfamiliar physiology, and he soon dies.

You should be able to shove the bodies into a couple of steamer trunks, but...

As the group goes back to the car to retrieve the bodies, you note that the lizardmen look... decayed. The bodies are decomposing remarkably fast.

-Posted with Wayfinder

"Maybe we need to get them on ice. Perhaps that will slow their rate of decay?" the tall easterner suggests.

Grand Lodge

Well I ain't any of those. Can anyone do a quick sketch of the lizard thing?

Male British-Canadian pilot Brawling [4] | Marksman [5] | Melee Weapon [5] | Pilot [5]

Hey! Canada isn't all cold!
Victor thinks.
Salt, maybe.

"In England, near every train station was a building that held ice for local homes to use in their ice boxes...is there not something similar here?" Harry explains to the others, not sure if such a convenience can be found here.

You could arrange for an icebox car on a freight train if you'd like, but it would probably require some bribes to keep the railroad workers from peeking at the cargo.

As far as photography goes, you're in luck! Rochester holds the headquarters of Eastman Kodak, so photographers are in abundant supply. You just have to wake one up in the middle of the night for the job.

"Could we use alcohol to preserve it? My cousin was a collector of biological specimens in the colonies and his house was always filled with jars of frogs, lizards and other creatures preserved in that way. Might we try something similar?"

Van Winkle says, "Too bad we aren't in one of your colonies like Rhodesia or India or even Jamaica. You people have far too many colonies to count. We could go to the University and get our hands on formaldehyde for preservation but we need to do this quick. When does the train leave for DC... and would we have to change at Penn Station?"

Harry's Scientist : 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (1, 1) + 7 = 9

Harry isn't sure at all of the best way to preserve the body.

-Posted with Wayfinder

So what's the plan? Try to preserve the body and take it to D.C.? Or get a photographer out to take the picture (and then take that to D.C., I presume)?

Perhaps we should get photographs of the bodies. I have never seen flesh deteriorate so quickly...must have something to do with their alien biology. I do not think they would last the trip to Washington even in ice."

B/M/S: 4/5/3 - Brawl 4, Melee 7, Marksman 7, Stealth 2 B/F/I/C/C/K: [][][][][][] - K.O.: []

"I have the same concern. Let's see if the hospital has any photographers on retainer." Morroway proposes.

-Posted with Wayfinder

When you inquire, the head nurse on duty informs you that they do not have a photographer on staff, but after some discussion, she is able to refer you to a photographer who often works with the Rochester Police to photograph crime scenes and autopsies.

You phone him, and he grudgingly agrees to take the photograph, for a hefty fee of course.

I'm guessing you want to go to his studio, rather than bring him to the hospital.

The Pendleton photography studio is a small brick building not far from the industrial district. Other shops lay dark along the street, in the deeper shadows of the vacant factories beyond. Only the street lamps provide light, as well as a single lit window, marking the building you seek.

Male British-Canadian pilot Brawling [4] | Marksman [5] | Melee Weapon [5] | Pilot [5]

Victor runs to the door.
Quickly!
He stops and knocks.
He mutters:
Bloody Hell... answer... come on

A nebbish-looking man with bent spectacles answers the door. He's dressed in a wrinkled shirt and slacks with suspenders. "Yes, yes," he says, still rubbing sleep from his eyes. "I'll take the picture. What is it you wanted me to photograph?"

The cost of the photograph is inconsequential for you all.

B/M/S: 4/5/3 - Brawl 4, Melee 7, Marksman 7, Stealth 2 B/F/I/C/C/K: [][][][][][] - K.O.: []

"Well, you're not going to like it. Stay calm and we'll explain. You see, some miles direction of here there was an accident... Harry, let's bring him in."

-Posted with Wayfinder

Harry hefts the body into the photographer's studio. He gives the man a quick once over as well as examining the equipment surrounding them.

"Perhaps it might be best if we just pay you a fee for the use of your equipment and leave it at that...say 100 pounds"

George says, "Pounds, all they are good for is the outhouse. Where is he going to exchange that paper? How about $100."

Harry give George a dirty look, but then corrects himself.

"Dollars, yes...that is what I meant. I believe the conversion would amount to only 21 pounds or so...your American dollar is quite new is it not? "

"Dollars," the man snaps. "I only take payment in dollars."

When the body is brought in, he recoils, and pulls a ragged handkerchief from his pocket to cover his mouth and nose. "Wha... What is it? It's not human, is it? What happened to it?"
