Elwyn marvels at Marisan's descent and reaches into his bag to retrieve his rope, he searches for something weighty to tie one end to and gets as far down the rope as possible to join the two in the hole (not really climbing down, more of an acrobatic jump/swing) and he draws his rapier when he gets down.

Sharan's bo staff is still wedged at the corner of the opening, with the rope dart's 20ft of rope looped over it. You can take -5 on the climb check to move 15ft in one move action, or don't take the -5 and move 7.5ft, twice, then drop? Or wait for the spider to jump on Sharan and then ride your spiked shield like a boogie board into the top of the spider. :) It may not WORK well, but it would help ME feel less foolish. :)

Harboth, having been momentarily mesmerized by the shimmering spiderwebs, now moves down as quickly as possible.

If I can get down to Sharan's level in a single turn by climbing, I'll do that, with the following result:

If it will take time to climb down, Harboth will just say Ahh, eff it and jump down:

Combat, Round 1

Party's Turn

The druid spots a Giant Spider as she glides down.

Marisal, Harboth:
Giant Spiders are immune to mind effects, have a poisonous bite that can sap one's strength, and can toss webs to capture their victims.

Elwyn jumps down, and barely avoids hurting himself. Telurion and Kyle climb down the rope (falling the last few feet). Harboth jumps down but twists his ankle.

Falling Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1

Sharan Survival: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11 It MIGHT be edible!

Enemy's Turn
The spider looks down the small pit, seeing fresh food at the bottom. It acts to ensnare its prey first.

Web attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23

The halfling finds herself caught in sticky spider webs. Using the newly created webs, the spider descends upon her.

Am I able to shoot into the sewer room? Does that count as cover?

Grand Lodge

Note: Sharan has the "Entangled" condition. The character is ensnared. Being entangled impedes movement, but does not entirely prevent it unless the bonds are anchored {They are in this case, so you cannot move) to an immobile object or tethered by an opposing force. An entangled creature moves at half speed, cannot run or charge, and takes a –2 penalty on all attack rolls and a –4 penalty to Dexterity.

Those looking down in the pit can shoot. However, the enemy is engaged in melee with a friendly. Those without precise shot take a -4 penalty to hit. There is enough room for 2 PCs to jump down with the halfling and the spider, but they would fall into the webs.

I mentioned above, "There is enough room for 2 PCs to jump down with the halfling and the spider, but they would fall into the webs." You like webs, don't you? You know you do.

Sharan wrote:

Webs are indeed touch attack, as are nets and other similar attacks. I do *believe* that total defense helps with that, but to be honest, with a total of 23 on his roll, I didn't bother to look up the exact rules ;)

Grand Lodge

Here's the TD rule: "You can defend yourself as a standard action. You get a +4 dodge bonus to your AC for 1 round. Your AC improves at the start of this action. You can't combine total defense with fighting defensively or with the benefit of the Combat Expertise feat. You can't make attacks of opportunity while using total defense." So, yes, since its a dodge bonus, it does stack. And IIRC, put 3 ranks in acrobatics and you increase that to +6. So, you have 16+4=20 Touch AC. Not shabby for level 1.

PS, Yes total defense works in webs. The condition, entangled, doesn't limit your standard actions aside from certain penalties. Your restricted movements are reflected in the -4 to Dexterity, so by focusing totally on moving out of the way with what little space you have, you're still better off defense-wise than if you focus on attacking.

math to be audited:

I think her touch AC was 16, +8 for Total Defense w/Blocking (if she got it turned on before the web came?), or 24.

I think her AC now is 24, and her touch is 22, since she's entangled.

Text from her profile:

AC: 18 (2 Leather +4 DEX +1 Small +1 Underfoot)
tch: 16
ff: 14
*FD: 24 (18 +5 Fighting Defensively +1 Blocking)
*TD: 26 (18 +7 Total Defense +1 Blocking)

1st-level Feat:
+ Cautious Fighter, +2 AC w/ FD(+2AC/-4TH) or TD(+4AC/no TH)

Fighter(Unarmed Fighter, loses Ftr bonus feat)
+ IUS
+ Crane Style, only -2 TH FD, +1 AC when FD or TD
+ + w/Cautious Fighter: FD: -2TH/+5AC, TD: +7AC
+ + w/'blocking' type weapon: +1 AC w/FD or TD

Grand Lodge

Sharan:
Well, let's crunch the numbers. We start with the +4 there in the description. I see the halfling feat now...so that brings it up to a +6...and the crane style adds +1 to ...so thats +7. Got that.

Then there's blocking you mention. You'll have to give me the page number/book reference to your blocking weapon you bought (I'm assuming that's what you're referring to). Regardless, blocking weapons do not work with Total defense. "When you use this weapon to fight defensively, you gain a +1 shield bonus to AC" As mentioned above, you can't combing fighting defensively with "Full Defense," so there's no way to stack those two. At any rate, it's a shield bonus which won't help against a web attack.

So, your total touch AC would be 23. He still got ya...but *just* barely!

Combat Round 2

The spider prepare to strike the halfling, venom dripping from its fangs. A spear and and arrow strikes it in the back, causing it to bleed. It flinches for a minute, but driven by hunger, follows through on its strike.

I don't know how this will work mechanics wise, but I want to jump on TOP of the spider, Spiked shield first! BOUYAH!!

Throwing a few rolls around - since I don't even know what to roll I'm going to throw some unmodified rolls :D

This would be a Bull's Rush sort of maneuver [my first option to push the spider away]: 1d20 ⇒ 3

This would be my attempt at acrobatics (with -4 for shield and +2 for Dex): 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (6) - 2 = 4

Essentially, you would be dropping on top of the spider with intent to do damage, using gravity and your weight to do damage. Damage would be similar to falling for both parties, though you would get an acrobatics check to see if you ignore 1d6 pts of damage (which you rolled above) as per normal falling rules. The spider would get a reflex saving throw to avoid being hit altogether, similar to a trap. DC for both set at DM's discretion based on situation.

Telurion falls upon the spider with his shield. It tries to jump out the way.

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

1d6 ⇒ 1

It jumps, but does not get completely out of the way as the fighter lands on one of its legs, tearing it off.

1d6 ⇒ 4

Unfortunately, the fighter finds himself worse off for the exercise than the spider, taking a nasty bruise on the shins. He also finds himself entangled up in the sticky threads.

"More leg. Many leg.", Sharan says as she prepares to climb Telurion. Needing her hands to climb, she next speaks around the spider leg, something like, "Thpiderth Kuud". Once atop Telurion, Sharan catches plumb bob, and with a toss of the rope, brings the staff over the hole above, where it naturally falls. Unable to rush to it from atop her coworker tower (she should call him 'Derrick'), she instead jerks the rope so it falls to the higher level, outside the spider's grave. Jumping down, she has shortly retrieved all her gear, and rushed about bringing arrows and bolts to their supposed owners, always with an offer of pale, white, raw, somewhat gelatinous, "Thpider?"

Sure, you can take 10 on survival. As far as ammunition, "Generally speaking, ammunition that hits its target is destroyed or rendered useless, while ammunition that misses has a 50% chance of being destroyed or lost." Generally players roll a d100 and get that back on a 51+. Spears, of course, are retrivable.

Andoran:
Fellow Free Citizen,
These further rumors of the derro involvement in Cassomir are troubling. Though we care not that Taldor citizens are possibly being hurt, we’d be remiss in our service to freedom to allow slavery of any kind go unpunished. If you find a derro beneath Cassomir, see to it that he is destroyed and then bring some proof of his existence back to me—his entire body if necessary. Taldor can no longer ignore the problem beneath its second largest city. In my studies of the derros, I’ve
read that they often drive their slaves before them as guards and soldiers—should you find some poor Darklands denizen in slavish servitude to the derros, give him the option of freedom before you strike him down. Even evil creatures do not deserve the shackles of tyranny.

Sincerely,
Captain Colson Maldris

Her Majestrix’s Most Loyal Servant,
I must admit a small amount of embarrassment—I’ve lost a necklace, a very important necklace of ivory and gold that I believe made its way into the hands of Andoran smugglers who we think are supplying the kidnappers beneath Cassomir. I’ve had a diviner look into its hereabouts—when you’re in a strange city below the city,
you should search through some of the supplies there to see if you can find it. I can’t have certain transgressions be known. Your discretion will be rewarded by pleasure. And since you’re going to be below Cassomir, I’ve heard these derros sometimes use magic traps—should you find one, carefully document and diagram how it works and
send that information to me. Paracountess Zarta Dralneen

Osirion:

Honored Subject of the Ruby Prince,
This tale of a shiny black artifact that turns normal rats into large, violent rats sounds disturbingly like
an old artifact of Osirion, lost a thousand years ago. Known as the jet rat, this artifact enabled some depraved
individuals to create armies of vermin. Should this be the very same artifact, be sure it’s returned to the
safe-keeping of the Pathfinder Society Grand Lodge in Absalom. This item is very dangerous and shouldn’t be
floating about in the general marketplace. If you happen to find a rat that has been altered by the artifact,
take a sample from its body—but do so carefully. Remove the patch of skin and fur on the back of the neck.
These must be taken together. Return a sample to me so that we may further understand how this artifact
works.

Sincerely,

In service to our Ruby Prince,
Amenopheus, The Sapphire Sage

Servant of the Satrap,
An agent of mine, Wafid Sadaqat, is missing in Cassomir. He was captured a year ago
on board the Prancing Prince, a slave galleon the Taldans commandeered. He was
imprisoned in the vile Swift Prison in Old Cassomir and recently disappeared from his
bunk. We do not believe he escaped. Rumors have reached my ears that unscrupulous
guards may have sold him to derro slavers beneath Cassomir. If you find him down there,
return him to me—quietly. Additionally, we are concerned about the proliferation of
supplies throughout the Darklands beneath Cassomir that seem to originate from an
Andoren smuggling operations. These uncreative louts mark their boxes with a giant red
X—count the number of boxes thusly marked as you wander beneath Cassomir so that I
may compare that number to these recently acquired shipping manifests from the Taldan
Imperial Navy. If they match, we have a weapon to use against those Andoren dogs.
May your coffers run deep,
Pasha Muhlia Al-Jakri

Taldor:
Agent of the Empire,
When will the empire be rid of the Teppish family? Strike down one of them,
and another sprouts like a weed. Pluck that weed, and another materializes from
thin air. I have reason to believe that Grench Teppish, the twin brother of Dalirio
Teppish, is behind the Countess’s kidnapping. If you find him, ensure he dies
and bring me his head. Though it will be a small consolation for the Patrizia family, mounting
his head on the gates of their family estate should hopefully keep the Teppish clan quiet for a
while. Lastly, while below, should you find any source of poison—natural or otherwise—recover
it in perfect condition and return it to me. My supplies seem to be running low and poison is so
dreadfully expensive here in Taldor. Be a dear and get me some more.
In the Emperor’s Name,
Baron Jacquo Dalsine

Elwyn thanks Sharan for her offer of spider but politely declines.

Seeing her quietly, almost soundlessly take her few steps Elwyn offers, "Sharan, why go it alone, Harboth and I are surprisingly stealthy, as a group we gould investigate what's next before getting out of Telurion's way for a big attack?

Harboth nods at Kyle. Pah, 's just a scratch. Been done a lot worse, as you well know, friend.

He nods in agreement with Elwyn as well.

I do not know if I agree with that plan Elwyn, seems you will be putting yourselves in danger before I get to arrive to save the day - he winks at the rogue - but I do trust your skills, and if they allow us to know beforehand what lies ahead we can sure try it - do lead the way, but if it goes wrong we change tactics. Now let's go.
