The Dangers of Civilization

Game Master sunshadow21

The Western Trade Route runs through the Midrealms to the city of Cliffsgate and the Haven of Belauth. Being a settled region, This region should be perfectly safe for a group of up and coming stars, right?

This is the discussion thread for the group going west from Borentia.

Male Elf Alchemist 2 (HP: 11, AC: 17, TAC: 14, FFAC: 13, F: 4, R: 6, W: 0, Init: 4, Per: 4)

Twitchy shows a moment of panic when he is asked about his homeland but is profoundly glad that the speeches from the host came to his rescue before things got awkward. As the names are read from the roster his tension is palpable. Finally his name is called and he becomes visibly shaken and emotional. Things may have just turned around for him. With any luck, his former debts may be repaid and life will take on a more pleasant twist. Perhaps even a chance to make something of himself.

Gentlemen, please excuse me as I retire to my room. The events of this evening have left me somewhat drained. I am glad to soon be embarking on this exciting new journey and I hope that we can soon become better acquainted with one another. Good evening and enjoy the entertainment.

Male Kitsune Sor2 Rog1/ / HP=12 AC=18 TT=14 FF=14/ /F=0 R=4 W=3/ /INI=4

Alright, ready to roll!

So we are following the southmost line going directly west, correct?

ecit; Alright twitchy see ya in the morning"

I'll start to go over the details of everyone's character sheets and post notes about the world on the campaign info tab over the next few days.

Yes, you are starting at the eastern terminus of the southern brown line going west.

Half-Orc

Sees the posts put up, takes one final drought of mead, and listens for his name to be called. When it is finally called, he puts down the flagon and says: Ah, the winds of adventure are up and the road calls. I bid each of you a fair nights sleep and look forward to the road ahead."

Halfling(Jinx) Cobbler 3, HP: 21, AC: 19, Tch: 14, FF: 16, F: +2, R: +6, W: +2, Init: +3, Per: +9

a few minor things to touch up like changing the trait and double checking gear.

Ahh a sigh of relief come over Crispin he made it he was free he needed to send word to the mistress.

"Goodnight Ha'el it looks like you will have time to talk about your homeland after all."

"Night Morbak, sleep well, I look forward to traveling with you."

looking at Zhiyo "Maybe you can tell me more about the forest you come from while we travel."

Male Elf Alchemist 2 (HP: 11, AC: 17, TAC: 14, FFAC: 13, F: 4, R: 6, W: 0, Init: 4, Per: 4)

I'd like to fill in more about my character's back story but being new to Pathfinder I am a little uncertain where Quateros is. I can't seem to find it in any of the usual materials. And when I googled Borentia the number one hit was our message board. Is this a completely new world of the GM's creation? If it is, I don't want to write the GM into a corner by creating a town in mountain range that doesn't exist. Is there a map? Have I missed something in the campaign notes?

Quateros is my own creation. Under Campaign Info, you'll currently find a map, and some basic information of the world. I'll be updating that in the next few days. As for a mountain range, there is a mountain range in the northern portion of the Zeritan Confederacy, the region you are starting out from.

Morbak:
With that background, I would place your point of origin to be in the Eastern Wastelands, with the Ice Gem Prospectors operating a series of small mines in the western reaches of the Rocky Passage. You could have easily worked your way across to the western border as a ship guard, since the ATA covers the entire Confederacy. Mechanically, you still have the 2 base skill points from Dex to assign to either a skill or action points. Otherwise, looks good.

VoW:
Put the two points in AP, I now have 8. Eastern Wastelands it is. I just figured if I said that my village calls it 'The Reach' and it was relatively south, you could put it anywhere.

Zhiyo:
I love the background. I'll put the Gream Sai Forest in one of the little nooks and valleys of the Barrier Mountains as one of the places where the veil to the fey world was at thinnest during the Time of Wild Magic. I am creating a rough connection between the kitsune and the fey in order to explain their relative rarity, with the kitsune having developed from the interaction between fey and humanoids (particularly elves and humans) in this region. Surrounded by traditonal elven culture, studying magic would have been easy. Trait wise, I'm tempted to change the armor trait from granting a -1 ACP to -10% casting penalty; it seems to fit a bit better. Using whole numbers would make it a bit easier to read the stats. I only see 2 points in Int based skills, with 2 unaccounted for. Overall, I love the character, and it should be fun to see it him develop.

A couple of notes at this point.

The names I'm listing are the commonly accepted names in the Havens. Certain areas, especially places like the Wastelands where the opinions of the residents are not necessarily going to match the opinions of the cartographers who establish the norm, or things like the names of the gods may very well have minor or major local variations.

Second, I will get a list of pertinent regional languages up tomorrow. All the standard languages are present, and used in their normal context. The only ones that tend to be rarer are the non-elemental planar ones.

Third, for your own sake, everyone might want to carve out a spot to list action points so they don't forget them.

Male Elf Alchemist 2 (HP: 11, AC: 17, TAC: 14, FFAC: 13, F: 4, R: 6, W: 0, Init: 4, Per: 4)

Ok I think I will wait until the map and such are updated before I flush out those details. I am still not entirely sure where everything is. I believe our current location is at the convergence of those 3 lines that fan out more or less north, north west, and west. Will the map eventually include labels and such? Also, I have some time off this weekend GM so if you need help with anything don't be afraid to ask.

Fixed and fine:

1 I am fine with the trait reducing the casting failure chance.

2 1 int skill point went to other trade skill(leatherworking) which will be used to make the potion-like magic bracelets(when you break it the one that was wearing it becomes target and the spell releases), the other I will add to knowledge nature in light of living in a forest.

One thing, if folks could incorporate whatever information they mentioned during the recruitment conversation, as well as any future conversations, it will be easier for me to find it, and use it in play.

Halfling(Jinx) Cobbler 3, HP: 21, AC: 19, Tch: 14, FF: 16, F: +2, R: +6, W: +2, Init: +3, Per: +9

will add that info when i get home and i am not on the phone.

Crispin:
I think I'll have you be from the Borentia area, with your home village somewhere nearby to the south on the peninsula; your backstory doesn't really suggest the need for a lot of travel up to this point. Since you already have proficiency with dagger, I'm inclined to offer an alternate benefit: you received a special dagger that can use the return ability 1/day. Otherwise, looks good, and it should be fun to play with the goddess of luck.

Updated campaign info with a few new links. I created a group on Photobucket you can upload pictures of your characters to, if you want to, and find all the public maps.

Half-Orc

Awakes to the morning sun after sleeping very well. Looks out the window to see the landscape for the first time in daylight, and realizes that his homeland is actually to the northeast.

Mutters to self: "Truly, you have been away far too long."

Begins to gather gear.

I would love to but I have no idea what you mean by incorporate. Do you mean put in our bios? or something else?

PS, still new at PBP so i am sorry if asking dumb questions.

He wakes up and dons his armor for the trip while packing up everything, then shifts into human form again and goes downstairs to check out and wait for everyone at the west gate.

I mean update your backgrounds with information as it develops. Otherwise the neat little bits that people come up tend to be forgotten. It's not a dumb question; if you didn't fully understand the request, it's far better to ask and get a clarification.

Halfling(Jinx) Cobbler 3, HP: 21, AC: 19, Tch: 14, FF: 16, F: +2, R: +6, W: +2, Init: +3, Per: +9

I have updated a section of my background that has any additional info that was RPed, I am still trying to come up with a name for the family.

Crispin wakes up feeling oddly hungry and didn't smell anything from the kitchen that smelled appetizing humans can't seem to cook anything right, Crispin gathers his things and heads to the kitchen to cook himself something descent for breakfast.

Half-Orc

Updated info

Packed up and heads downstairs to grab a bite to eat. Nearly runs into Crispin while passing by the kitchen.

"Good morning my friend, sleep well?"

Halfling(Jinx) Cobbler 3, HP: 21, AC: 19, Tch: 14, FF: 16, F: +2, R: +6, W: +2, Init: +3, Per: +9

"Good Morning, I did, I seem well rested but famished." he looks at the Kitchen "I was just going to make myself some breakfast would care to join me.

Half-Orc

"Why not, might as well get to know each other. Since we're going to be on the road together." Slaps Crispin on the shoulder.

Halfling(Jinx) Cobbler 3, HP: 21, AC: 19, Tch: 14, FF: 16, F: +2, R: +6, W: +2, Init: +3, Per: +9

Crispin staggers forward a bit "We should, let's go eat.

With it seems one thing on his mind "food" Crispin heads in the kitchen like he was meant to be there, and begins to get the fixings for omelets ready "So Morbak, I know you were working for the Ice Gem Prospectors, what brought you here." he takes a piece of pepper and puts it in his mouth.

Male Kitsune Sor2 Rog1/ / HP=12 AC=18 TT=14 FF=14/ /F=0 R=4 W=3/ /INI=4

On his way to the gate he grabs a bite to eat from one of the opening shops and looks around for the various places his companions might be coming from. Thinking he should have talked to the ones he met and planned a meeting spot, sigh, he continues to the west gate.

After awhile he begins to wonder if the others had thought of something obvious he missed as to where they could meet.

Halfling(Jinx) Cobbler 3, HP: 21, AC: 19, Tch: 14, FF: 16, F: +2, R: +6, W: +2, Init: +3, Per: +9

Doh, The west Gate missed that.

Crispin hands Morbak a plate with food on it and then swears "We were supposed to meet the others at the west gate." Crispin quickly finishes 3 more omelets and slices bread making them into sandwiches packing them for travel "You can tell me on the way to the gate." Crispin leaves the kitchen an organized mess leaving a gold for their troubles.

Just posted a B&W Sketch of Crispin in the photobucket, going to be coloring it soonish

Male Elf Alchemist 2 (HP: 11, AC: 17, TAC: 14, FFAC: 13, F: 4, R: 6, W: 0, Init: 4, Per: 4)

*wakes up in the morning, lounging in his bed and rolls over to look out the window*

YIKES! It's way past the time I should be up. I was to meet the new party at the west gate this morning! Best get up and get my equipment together

It won't take long for me to gather up my equipment; after all, most of it was pawned off just to survive. Hells, I just slept in over half my possessions. Last nights events went rather well me thinks. Crowds of people have long been my undoing. Yet last night seemed to go rather well other than a few social faux pas with regards to that halfling Crispin. Well, then again there was that bit where I tried to show off with the dagger. And the so called prank I played on Morbak by getting Crispin to put that powder into the 1/2 orc's drink. Hrm, hopefully no one noticed.

*Once ready, Twitchy rushes off to the kitchens to grab a bite to eat and heads out the door and up the road towards the west gate. As he approaches he sees the other 3 already there waiting ...*

Ho there! My apologies. I hope you weren't waiting long. I slept in dreaming of my good fortunes at last nights lottery. I trust each of you slept well.

Sorry guys, my son had a sleep over last night and we were up very late ... well late for an old dog like me. I will be on set filming for over 12 hours today so if I do get on it will be via phone so formatting will be kept to a minimum. 8) I'm excited to get underway. I've only played in two pbp campaigns and both were very short lived sadly. I am crossing my fingers that this one doesn't suffer the same fate. Oh and GM. Would it be possible for you to increase the font size on the Zeritas map? Some of the smaller names are nearly impossible to read on photobucket ... even while zoomed.

Half-Orc

While waiting Ha'el to appear, he answers Crispin's question. "To be honest, I'm not sure. I guess it was time for me to move on, I had gotten in a bit of a rut. This just seemed like the oppurtunity to see much more of the world than the dark mines infested with giant vermin." Spits on the ground. "I hate those creatures with passion you could not believe." His eyes seem to glow a bright crimson for a moment, then they fade back to normal. "My apologies, I should be more careful than to allow my blood to boil."

Smells Ha'el approach from behind. "We weren't waiting too long. Where to from here?"

Sounds like a fun day. Just be glad you're bringing in a paycheck; many people would rather be working 12 hour days than their current no pay check at all. As for the map, I've tried to make the important ones prominent; the city names aren't particularly critical at this stage. The one downside to CC3 is that everything scales together, so the only way to make the rest readable at the zoom level required to get that full region would be to adjust the label size every time I needed to change the zoom or to add the labels with another program, neither of which are very practical solutions. I'll try to bump up the the geographical names, but there isn't much I can do with the city names.

Halfling(Jinx) Cobbler 3, HP: 21, AC: 19, Tch: 14, FF: 16, F: +2, R: +6, W: +2, Init: +3, Per: +9

"Being in a rut is good of a reason as any, change is good. stepping back a small distance "I hope we don't meet any of those giant vermin you dislike so much."

Bowing toward Zhiyo "Sorry to have kept you waiting, I was just making everyone breakfast. He hands him a sandwich

Grinning at Ha'el "Morning Twitch, here eat this you like you are malnourished, don't worry I will help you with that."

Crispin looks at the gate then at his companions "We have some time to kill before we have our meeting, we could wander the city and see if we need anymore gear before we go."

World specific languages have been added to campaign info, and the Zeritas map has been adjusted to try to make the labels as readable as possible.

Languages have been added to campaign info.

Half-Orc

"I agree, let's see what this city has to offer."

Male Kitsune Sor2 Rog1/ / HP=12 AC=18 TT=14 FF=14/ /F=0 R=4 W=3/ /INI=4

"Good morning, thank you Crispin. I'll save this for lunch." He takes the sandwich and puts it in his bag since he just ate."So there was the meeting, I thought I was forgetting something. I guess I can pick up some trail rations while we wait... Oh, remind me to tell you something once we get away from the city."

Half-Orc

Updated weapons and languages.

Halfling(Jinx) Cobbler 3, HP: 21, AC: 19, Tch: 14, FF: 16, F: +2, R: +6, W: +2, Init: +3, Per: +9

Crispins eyes twinkle when Zhiyo implies he needs to say something out of the city, secrets are wonderful. "Your Welcome, I was thinking while we wait we can explore the city picking up any supplies we need, maybe a pack mule. Then go to the meeting, the one thing I am not sure of is starting traveling in the afternoon when I am unfamiliar with the area."

Updated Languages and added some more notes for his background.

Half-Orc

"Then let us browse the marketplace." Adjusts pack and heads towards the bazaar.

Male Elf Alchemist 2 (HP: 11, AC: 17, TAC: 14, FFAC: 13, F: 4, R: 6, W: 0, Init: 4, Per: 4)

Oh I don't get paid for film gigs VoW. My friends and I are all teachers and we started an independent film company 2 years ago. So I write, gaff, act, produce, cater, run sound and pretty much anything else that needs doing. We have done a few paid commercials but that money goes back into the company.

Yes, lets explore this place. I've some alchemical supplies I need to top up. Oh and thanks for the sandwich Crispin, you are an artist with bread, meat, and cheese.

You guys seem mostly ready to go, as the few background details that remain aren't going to come into play immediately. I'll start the game thread either later today or tomorrow.

Halfling(Jinx) Cobbler 3, HP: 21, AC: 19, Tch: 14, FF: 16, F: +2, R: +6, W: +2, Init: +3, Per: +9

Anything else I need to work on for background details.

Ha'el:
I think I'll go ahead and place your home town somewhere in the region of Turvar. It's the green area between the Sea of Dreams and the rest of the Confederacy. While technically part of the Confederacy, it's a mostly autonomous region that has a love-hate relationship with the rest of the Confederacy. On the one hand, it likes the protection that being part of the larger unit provides, but on the other, it's ambivalent to the baggage that comes with that protection, i.e. the politics, the influence of outside interests, the perception that it is held onto so that the rest of the Confederacy has a buffer zone. Otherwise, everything looks good.

Great job on the backgrounds, everyone. While there are still details to fill in some cases, I have all the information I need for right now, and will allow the rest to develop over time.

Game thread is up.

Halfling(Jinx) Cobbler 3, HP: 21, AC: 19, Tch: 14, FF: 16, F: +2, R: +6, W: +2, Init: +3, Per: +9

Cool will post after I put the Kids to Bed

Male Elf Alchemist 2 (HP: 11, AC: 17, TAC: 14, FFAC: 13, F: 4, R: 6, W: 0, Init: 4, Per: 4)

Ok, I believe I've now completed my back story and figured out how to put my stats in my character posting header. I think I am good to go. Woot! So excited to actually get to start playing an alchemist.

Finally got the basic history of the world typed out and posted.

I'll give people until tomorrow about this time to do any further shopping, before I move the story forward.

Halfling(Jinx) Cobbler 3, HP: 21, AC: 19, Tch: 14, FF: 16, F: +2, R: +6, W: +2, Init: +3, Per: +9

Ok, I will try to post before then, just getting in from a really long day of work.

Male Elf Alchemist 2 (HP: 11, AC: 17, TAC: 14, FFAC: 13, F: 4, R: 6, W: 0, Init: 4, Per: 4)

I believe I am all right for shopping. At least I cannot think of anything more. Back story is done. Overall I am good to go.

I also feel the need to mention that I really enjoyed that episode between Morbak, Zhiyo and the horse. They drop 2 20s in a row for handle animal and the horse really starts to like them and then Morbak nearly lands a critical miss on the dex check to saddle him. Oh, and for the record Morbak, I'm not laughing at you ... just laughing at the situation and reminiscing how many other similar situations my dice have put me in.

Great job overall!
