Hah! I suppose you're right. Especially since phlebotomy (drawing blood) is also part of my job so I get called a vampire on a regular basis :3

So long as you don't sparkle in the sun. we're still cool.

So I guess we both work with the icky bits. I just work with the icky bits of websites rather than human bodies. :P

So... you folks are heading well and truly off the beaten track with this one!!! I'll try to keep a steady hand on the tiller and guide us along - and gently back towards the main adventure... also, if the tone of our adventure - I' aware that we've been hanging around with a pimp and his gang for the last week - isn't cool by everyone, please do say!!!

Y'all can get back on track here if you want. I made the suggestion of checking out Mahaas in Festival, but even if you pursue another lead, hopefully our GM will be kind enough to help me reconnect with the group at an opportune moment.

All good here.

I've never played an investigator type before, so this is turning out to be a rather interesting experience for me.

Hey guys, I'm going to be pulling 12s at work for the next three days so you may not see much in the way of posts from me during that time. I'll try to check in/keep up as much as I can but it may not be until Friday night or Saturday before I'll get caught up. As always, feel free to bot me for combat/skill checks as needed!

Question for GM Zed on the Shawl of Shadowy Disguise. I am interested in getting the stealth and disguise bonus for this item. Since the caster level of the item is 5th level that would be a +5 stealth and disguise while not in bright light. But on the other hand, the item could be interpreted to give the benefit of hiding The Stirge's appearance but no other benefits. What do you think?

Hey friends! Good news is that I'm back! Bad news is I tested positive for the flu today! At least that'll give me plenty of time for PbP while I'm off work and recovering?

Oh noes! I caught that last year and it was not fun. If they caught it early enough it probably won't be as bad as I had it, but I was out of commission for a couple of days during the worst of it.

I read it as:

Darkness / Dim Light
A +5 competency bonus to stealth / disguise skill checks and the constant benefit of not revealing the Stirge's appearance.

Normal Light
A +5 competency bonus to stealth / disguise skill checks.

Bright Light
The cloak is ineffective.

And just a quick note, I'm loving the story telling going on here ...

Just wanted to say thanks for playing along as I do another set of introductory scenes for the Stirge. Hopefully once we're all acquainted, I can make the transitions seamlessly between the alternate identities with less fanfare.

Loving these early interactions with the Stirge!!! Just letting you folks bring that to a natural conclusion before I advance us on into the story...

@Varian: All's well. I just hope that you aren't too upset about me offering you to pay Mr. Mean some of your money. :)

Sides, it's not like I haven't done stuff like this before.

Hey folks, just wanted to mention that with Zed's permission I reworked Ruby a little bit. Nothing too major but I did change her Mystery to Dark Tapestry which of course changes her revelations and mystery spells but that should be all. I'll get her profile updated to reflect the changes shortly :)

HP: 14/23 | AC: 19/17/13 | F +2, R +8, W +7 | Per:+10, Init: +5 | 1st: 7/8 2nd: 7/7 3rd: 0/5

Oh fun! I'd love to play with that someday. :)

Inactive

@Varian - I also hope you won't be too upset at Ruby suggesting we collar you like a dog, but I/Ruby couldn't resist :3

And this is my first Dark Tapestry oracle so we'll see how it goes! I love the oracle class - so versatile thanks to all the different mysteries and revelations! I've got a Life oracle in a F2F game, plus four others on PbP that cover Dark Tapestry, Flames, Heavens, and Time respectively :D

Male Half-Elf Occultist (Panoply Savant) 8 / Swashbuckler (Inspired Blade) 1 | HP 86/86 | AC:31 T:18 FF:24 CMD:24 | F+9 R+7 W+11 (+13 vs enchantment) | Init+9 | Perc+14

Definitely not - seems like the Stirge needs a leash! Whether he'll agree with that sentiment in character is another question.

And I like the Dark Tapestry oracle a lot, plenty of interesting powers. Many Forms is a lot of fun!

I'll have to have a look at that ... but it sounds a great mystery to have .... great for this game ... he says without looking at any of the details ... ;-)

You sure is not the Darc Tapestry ...

Late addition tot he post, after I read the story continuation.
Just to clarify, Darc has not connected 'The Stirge' with Varian ... so he currently means it ... so hope you don't mind this bit of inter party confrontation ...

^Nope, but now Mean is probably confused and/or possibly more agitated since both Tera and Ruby spoke like they were familiar with The Stirge and then Darc says that we'd only just met him before coming onto the barge ;)

So, Horror in the Sinks by Alastair Rigg - the third of the modules set in the Blight - just landed in my inbox and yeah, wow, that is some dark stuff right there... I will run it, at some point, here on the boards but just to whet your whistle - here's the preamble...

Horror in the Sinks wrote:
Lurking in the drowning folly that is the aristocratic enclave of the Sinks, the horrific Asylum — shunned by a citizenry terrified of the revelations it may contain — is where the nobles of the City-State of Castorhage bury their secrets. Those who do soon learn that life — if it can be called that — within its walls is even worse than they feared and the truths that nestle within its inmates are far more distressing than mere madness.

An insane asylum! Classic. Fits perfectly with the grimy 1800's London feel.

Hey folks, I know this will seem a little sudden but I've made the decision to bow out of this game. My work schedule has been busier than usual lately and I don't look for it to change much for the foreseeable future. As a result I've made the decision to (again) cut down my number of games (which stinks because all the ones I have right now I *really* like) but this ended up being one of the ones I feel the most okay with letting go of; I just don't have the mental energy and in some cases the time to keep up with everything currently on my plate. Hopefully we're early enough in the module that me dropping won't cause too much trouble. I'm bummed because I really like the vibe of all things Blight but I need to redirect and narrow my focus a bit more :(

As short as it's been, I've had fun playing with everyone and I may still peek in to see how you guys are faring with unraveling this mystery! :)

Ruby: No worries, shame to see you go but better to trim the number of games you are in than to struggle to get everything written in time!!! I'll GMPC Ruby for the time being - but she may come to a typically sticky ending....

aaah, no problem at all, a GM after my own heart. Sometimes you just have to trust the GM to make it dramatic and fun .... noted and happy .. ;-)

The fifth of the Blight 'stand-alone' adventures has just been released... and it's as black-hearted an affair as its twisted brethren!!! ...and now, full of trepidation and fear, we await the main book itself...

At the final reckoning, we have (and I am itching to run each and every one of them):

Level 1, 'The Crooked Nail' by Brandon Hodge

For decades, Theatre Infernalis offered shocking and frightful entertainment to customers who entered its gaping demonic facade and saw a frightful portrait of the eternal torments that await all sinners. Now rumours tells of the ageing and supposedly-cursed proprietor’s deteriorating health and the theatre’s impending sale, and the Artist’s Quarter has been abuzz with those seeking one final fright with a walk through the crucible-licked walls of the infernal house of the macabre before its final curtain call. But are the theatre’s smoke-and-mirrors and cheap scares hiding a truly wicked secret? What is the nature of the curse and illness that affect the owner? And did foul and profane rites once take place between its walls that outside forces now seek to exploit? What happens when the spookshow’s fun and games transform into a terrifying reality, threatening to spill forth an in infernal malevolence onto the streets of the Blight?

Level 3, 'Horror in the Sinks' by Alastair Rigg

Lurking in the drowning folly that is the aristocratic enclave of the Sinks, the horrific Asylum, shunned by a citizenry terrified of the revelations it may contain, is where the nobles of the Blight bury their living secrets. But when too many overseers are killed, and in ways more gruesome than even the brutality of that location might evoke, someone must enter to investigate. Those who do, soon learn that life - if it can be called that within its walls of that bleak place - is even worse than they feared and the truths that nestle within its inmates are far more distressing than mere madness.

Level 5, 'Bloody Jack' by Greg A. Vaughan

All the children of the Blight know the nursery rhymes about Bloody Jack Carver, cautionary tales for naughty or overly inquisitive children to mind their manners and obey their parents. However, their parents know the true horror of those times 30 years ago when the lunatic serial killer known as Bloody Jack Carver stalked the fog-shrouded streets of the Blight and abducted children. The killing spree finally ended, but the perpetrator was never caught.

When the PCs are deputized to assist in a homicide investigation, they find terrifying clues that point to the three-decade-old Bloody Jack killings and signs to indicate that they were just the beginning. Now the PCs are in a race against time across the breadth of the decrepit and deteriorating city that is the Blight as they attempt to stop a new killing spree before it can start. The PC’s investigation takes them from the halls of the Capitol and the seedy streets and alleys of Toiltown to the garish carnival piers of Festival and the pollutant-crusted banks of the Great Lyme River. Only they stand between the children of this decayed city and new nursery rhymes being written in their blood.

Level 7, 'The Crucible' by Richard Pett

People in the Blight begin to awaken at night burning with an all-too-real fire. Most of them die horribly, spouses or lovers staring in shocked horror at their sudden death throes in the grip of consuming flames. A few of the truly unlucky actually manage to survive — if living in such a state can be called survival. There seems to be no rhyme or reason in the victims of these incinerating dreams, as those among the high and low fall victim to its touch, and the locals each pray that he or she will not be next.

Now no one dares to sleep.

Level 9, 'Children of the Harvest' by Bill Webb

The Blight is a dark place. Children disappear all the time, especially those of the poor. The Harvester of Cribs, one of the city’s strange local gods, is blamed for many of these disappearances. Typically, these disappearances are random, isolated instances, and in many cases, the Harvester has nothing to do with it at all, merely being a convenient explanation or alibi for some other nefarious activity.

This time, however, 36 children have disappeared from their homes - all in a single night - and many of them were not from the houses of the poor. Not even the jaded folk of the City-State of Castorhage will stand for this (especially not a prominent justice and a guild leader who have each lost a child in this rash of disappearances). Now is the time for a call to action. Now is the time for heroes.
