Yep, as long as we're up and out and geared we should be good with Janna keeping a lookout while Kev and I dig a short way from the Waystation (Maybe 50ft?) and clearly in Janna's line of sight. Say from 6:30ish to 8?

Jerrid sets up a rope against the back wall before his rest. When his watch starts, he checks the gate to see if someone inside was causing trouble before climbing onto the repaired platform

When the deep gnome hears the very distant sneaking he tells Astor to wake everyone. Then he looks out carefully over the 120 foot range, flicking his claw against the tang of the duergar sickle.


120' darkvision right? Ok.

It looks like about 8 figures are skulking about. They are a little too big to be human, have a hunched posture, and walk with a spring to their step. They definitely carry spears. That is all Jerrid can tell, peering through the gap near where the gate latches.

Janna goes about her business, setting up camp rememebring what damien "drilled into her head" he's not like the professors at the Academy.

of course he isn't as bad either she muses remembering her alchemy professor, way too many fumes inhaled by that for fellow, wnd that lazy eye would always creep Janna out when she loked at him.

eventually she has the tent set up. and notices the dead fellow. her healing skills are not so great but she has learned to tell the difference between dead and alive and has been correct just over half the time. zombies, uggg

eventually Janna has a bite to eat and helps with the platform like before before settling in for some sleep.

awakened by some rustling telling her about people approaching Janna makes her way out of the tent.

she pauses to survey the situation before making her way toward the platform.

Jerrid uses his innate ability and picks out a target as they move. Someone in the middle.

He wills blindness on the humanoid.


Surprise goes to the party. Everyone go.


We can assume Jerrid allows everyone time to make whatever preparations they need to (i.e. draw a weapon, move to the foot of the platform or adjacent to the gate, cast a single buff spell, etc.) before he strikes, which initiates the surprise round.

Moving to the gate Damien does his best to direct people with hand signals. Gesturing for Leo to join him at the base of the gate and for Astor and Kev to take position just back to either side of him.

Vhillish he directs towards the base of the platform and Sam and Janna to the side for support and flanking.

Taking out his hammer he waits quietly, heart racing...

I positioned everyone where he would recommend, feel free to give him the finger but please don't :) First action incoming.

As Jerrid begins the attack, Damien calls out orders, "Jerrid, call when they are near the walls. Leo on signal kick the door and get clear. Deputy, ranged support!"

He looks over his shoulder at Kev and Astor, "Wait till they close with me then step up and bloody the f~~*ers! Sam, hit their flank! Janna, arcane support!"

A moment of concentration, she focuses her will on the area outside the gate opposite the direction from which the attackers advance; using her innate ability to deepen the darkness of an area. Darkness

Glancing over her shoulder she says quietly "Samduc, the shadows are deeper in that direction." indicating the direction she places her area of darkness.

Kev, you do realize Darkness is a touch spell right? You have to touch something to designate it as the source. And I hate to say it but if they're attacking in the dead of night they probably have darkvision.


Sorry, I forgot to say it because it has been the same for so many nights in a row, but tonight is a clear night with bright starlight. So darkness does change the lighting conditions. Damien's points notwithstanding.

"I was hoping to take a few down before they got here, but if you think that's best..." Astor wants to grumble a bit more but he realizes that his is not the keen eye for strategy. He waits to see what the others will do before making a decision.

Thus far it seems like people are on board Astor. The idea is that we aren't going to be opening the gate until they get within 20ft or so of the walls. we want them to funnel through the gate. Remember, if we can pepper them with ranged attacks, they can do the same to us and I for one don't have my crossbow on me...

If this is a disaster you know not to trust me in future :P

No, I think you're right, just between my quick reading and Astor's stubbornness I'm playing him this way. He'll probably be wrong again, or at least the dice will play against him. The gods may not want him to be an archer!

Right, forgot about that.

Kevezyat picks up a stone from the ground, and it is that upon which she focuses her innate darkness. She then tosses the stone to lie on the other side of the wall, opposite the direction the attackers come from.

Janna climbs to the top of the platform to check out the scene. (she does have 60' darkvision.

we did not rest to regain our daily use spells right? so Janna is still down 4 lightning bolts


It's 3AM and bed-time was 8PM. Janna slept for 7 hours.

I'm kinda blanking on how this works for sorcerors.

Unhitching the latch and raising the bar, the young priest walks out alone into the night, pushing the gate wide open.

50 paces away, across the well worn dirt highway, barks and yelps fill the air as one of the feral hyena men loses it's eye-sight, and a patch of magical darkness spreads where Kevezyat's hurled stone lands delivering the hereditary magic of her people.
