Trying to help a fellow dwarf out. Kragg will attack the bannerman first and if he drops will proceed to the wizard. 5ft step north.

"That was a top shot, Magnum!", Khazad says appreciatively, before turning around and hurrying to the back door which leads to the side room.

Hon hits the Bannerman and injures him--Khazad's slash finishes him of and he barely pierces the wizard. Magnum rushes to help and realizes he will not make it so he tosses his two hammers. Luckily Neji's dancing lights still illuminate the area.

The two hammers smash into the wizard ending his unlife and the undead dwarven onslaught.
Magnum survey the 18 mangled ghouls and remains of 7 skeletons and exclaims, "That was teamwork. Shall we loot the bodies and hunker down in the anteroom so we can heal up. Those wedges can keep the inner doors closed too."
"Kragg, I wouldn't leave the group looking for trouble. Plus there are a lot of axes and hammers to pick up."


Taking armor off the skeletons will take some time and two suits of dwarven half-plate are solid protection. As these were a former party they seem to each have some masterwork items. They may need some cleaning too if you wanted to wear them (they were worn by a skeleton for over a year).

Thograt and Brask will decide next step


Thograt helps in stripping the gear from the undead dwarves. Searching for any thing extra as well. Per 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19. Then he looks over the team assessing cuts and bruises. How's everyone doing for HP? "What do you think Brask? I'm almost out o healin' for today, probably smart to have a rest before we trip anymore boobytraps."

There is still 1 ghoul roaming around. I would prefer to scout the room here and make sure it is safe before we stop and take the spoils of war. If you want to start looting, I will start looking in this southern room for any hidden doors or other problems.

If ok with everyone, Kragg will take 20 searching the dais and the walls. Total perception is 26.

Of gear would like the MW dwarven Ugrosh.


"Wait up Kragg! Who knows the surprises that may be sprung on us before we are ready to handle them. There may be wisdom in chocking those doors to take a rest before we explore that big room."

Doing fine on HP Thograt. For now anyways.

That's all well and good if you know noth'n's come'n for ya. I'll stand just inside till I can see the other side. Don't want anythin plannin for us with us unawares. Better yet, Thograt, why don't you come with me and guard me back while I make sure there is nothin there. Just a walk around the edge and back again. If you insist, then I will wait here and just watch the other side. Your in charge and I'll listen to ya. Just stating my concern.

J35 would let me see the entrance, but thatwould put me on the dias and I don't think that would be advised right now. H37 would put me off the dias and still see the other side of the room. Whatever Thograt decides I will listen and follow his direction.
If we are looting, someone make sure to search the side rooms as well. If someone wants to watch the large room, then I will search the rooms myself.


"Well, I 'ope ye 'ave enuff ta get e'ryone back up ta snuff, or at least close. I know I'm still hurtin', but get tha others first."

Brask is at 8 of 16HP right now.

"Kragg! 'old on a moment an' I'll go with ye. It may be 'urt, but I bet it'll still gnaw yer face off."
Brask turns to Thograt.
"One o' them ghoulies ran away, we need ta at least find out where an attack can come from."

As soon as Thograt is out or Brask is healed up to full, I'll go with Kragg to scout out the area ahead as long as Thograt doesn't object.


All I've got left is one channel energy... All my spells are spent except for my domain spell (magic weapon)

"Oo I really don't like this idea! Everyone gather around."
Thograt waits until the entire group is in range and then blesses everyone in the name of Torag.

"Right, Kragg and Brask hunt your ghoul, Everyone else let's get set up ready to chock the doors shut if Kragg and Brask come runnin' with the hoards o the nine hells on their butts!"


Big Mug starts to strip the mwork breastplate off the undead Bannerman. He also looks on his person and finds a journal similar to the one he has been keeping.

He reads, "We go to find out what has been troubling these people in these ruins. I do not trust these humans who have been so polite to us or their promises."

"An earlier entry reads--our stealth mission to the human depot allowed us to boost some real good equipment. We can take from one group and sell to another. The thieves guild contact has helped us with some of our more high profile goods. There is a map and a mark on this Big Swallow Inn. This human capital city is huge."


Magnum picks up hatchets and hammers and hand axes strewn everywhere.
"Gotta give you dwarves credit, you are never lacking in courage. I have some time left on my potion, I'll go with Brask and Kragg if they want company."

You notice to barricade yourselves in you can block the double doors leading to the anteroom or each of the two concealed single doors in the side rooms. The side rooms have small ghoul carcasses everywhere.


"If that 'appens, then just close tha doors anyway, 'cause me and Kragg 'ave clearly become idiots."

With that Brask sets out if Kragg with bow out and ready.

EDIT: Sure Magnum can come along, after this fight, Brask is probably going to be a good bit paranoid.

A bit of retcon:"Stack'em like cordwood, easier to figure out if they've been disturbed. Plus, perhaps we can provide a final resting place for our brother dwarves if an opportunity arises." Bloodied but putting action to words, he pulls the looted ghouls and skeletons into the corner of the room (I-25). Looking at the others as they plan,"Hey! Learn from my mistakes, if we are going seperate ways lets plan this. What if we suddenly lost our light?{cough, cough}" Hon dusts off his useless crossbow in chagrin, then ties it to his backpack. Hefting his warhammer, he collects the light stone and grips it tightly in his off-hand as Brask and Kragg depart. He makes a perception check towards the other secret door (M17) as his room is engulfed in darkness, ready to open palm one round later regardless.
Perception 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17


It appears the Rangers are going on recon again. Magnum asks Neji for a lighted stone.
"Brask this is your show, if you don't want any light I can stay back. The last battle showed me how much I need light."


What is the marching order for Brask's group? There is the three foot high platform in the middle, you can go right or left.
I assume the rest are looting, let me know if anyone is preparing a 'panic room' yet.

Since Brask is second in command I will let him decide where to go. Kragg doesn't plan on going outside of the large room unless Brask indicates otherwise.

Kragg will proceed down the western wall searching as he goes. Once he gets to 40F he will look back and wait for Brask to indicate proceed along the walls or head back and check out the dias.


Brask will follow Kragg to F38 and see if he can see anything.
(Just use the perception roll from before, which was 20.)


Kragg, Brask and Magnum travel single file down the right wall.

Kragg&Brask:
You hear a low roar kind of like that of a forge after it is lit and blown with the bellows--ahead you can dimly make out what look like a bonfire through the 20' arch in the area ahead. The 'bonfire' ahead seems to mess with your darkvision somewhat, but you do not see any silhouettes between you and it. Magnum whispers, 'you got big brass ones Brask and Kragg--I'm glad I threw my lot in with you.'

I will post a link to the map of the area ahead soon on the campaign info after the current map--it will be Dwarf3.

Brask looks back at Magnum and whispers.
"Says tha blighter that cannae ev'n see in 'ere without a light. Now, do we do tha smart thing or tha stupid thing."

Kragg will return to Brask and try to coordinate plans while whispering.Let's go for the cautious yet productive approach. Brask ya want to stay here while I circle back on the other side? That way we see each other and can scout the fall wall as well. NOT goin any further just making sure everythin behind us is safe up to this here point. Plus you can keep an eye on the openin if something comes out. If I don't find anythin then we both head back and tell the rest what's goin on up to this point. That dias still worries me but I don't want to touch it yet until the rest of the room is secure.

If Brask agrees then Kragg will end up in O40 on the far side of the room again searching as he goes. Kragg will make sure to stay visible to Brask at all times.

Being paranoid just a little bit is healthy right?


"Works fer me. No need ta get us any more scuffed up than we already are."


Magnum stays with Brask because he is injured, Kragg circles around and doesn't see anything but the bonfire and hear the roar of a big fire in the next room.

Big Mug continues to search and remove armor on the skeletal soldiers. Anyone else continuing into the big room?

Once Brask starts heading back, Kragg will do likewise and give a report to the rest of the group.

Large fire up ahead in the second room but no smoke in the adjacent room. No sign of the ghould or any other surprises. I haven't looked at the dias yet as I am afraid to trigger anything until everyone is ready.


Brask heads back and confirms what Kragg said. After that, it's getting everything secured in the entrance room and setting up watches.
"I'll take first watch."

I'll get second. That'll be 2 shifts covered with us that can see in the dark. Don't know how much good it'll do to have some of the others take a watch.


"Hon, Magnum, Chock those doors up as tight as you can. I guess I'll take the 3rd watch and Hon can take the fourth. Dawn is when I can prepare new spells so we'll be resting till then."


Dawn is a long way away, but the two minute fight left everyone exhausted. The large tent is easily pitched and provides a welcome shelter against the natural and unnatural cold that abounds here. Some remnants of the game and a package of exotic soup spices that Magnum has in his pouch, even mixed with cold water, make a somewhat tasty meal. 12 hours later everyone is much refreshed and new spells can be prepared for the day. Let me know how much healing is expended before the doors have the wedges released and are opened.

Will the marching order be the same? Scouts out first at 40' as last time?

"Watch? I hope you don't include me in the rosters... I'll be busy enough as it is."


Brask is at 12HP
Brask gets up and stretches out he kinks in his muscles before donning his armor.
"Mmmmm. While I enjoy at least one of yer's company, Magnum, you could pass fer me granpap with tha way you snore!"
A grin splits his face revealing that all was in good humor.

Neji will search the bodies more thoroughly, especially the spellcasters.


Thograt sits quietly in prayer, as Torag grants him spells to cast for the day. When finished he checks over the team for wounds. Everyone should have healed 2 HP from the rest. How's everyone's HP looking?

Hon works out the kinks from his restful sleep in the halls of the dead. "I've slept better. Slept worse. New day. New beginnings. Where's breakfast? MMMmmmmm Rations." Once finished, he looks over the dead stacked like cordwood in the corner. Yep, still dead. Well, thats a few less to worry about. When we are ready, I'll take point again. Undead appear to like fresh meat. No offense Thograt...
He'll post lookout after he packs up his gear and near useless crossbow, keeping his warhammer in hand; he awaits for the others to get moving.

HP great. Its easy when they miss you to stay healthy. Of course now that I said that I am guarenteed to be in teh negatives next fight.

Ready when you say so. Anyone hear anything in the night?


During the night it was eerily quiet, occasionally scratching or scraping noises were heard. Unfornately the evil feeling still exists and no healing occurs over the night. Thograt feels an ominous presence tried to block his conduit to his deity, but he is still able to relearn his spells.

Neji searched the gnome skeleton with the wizard hat. The hat with a grey background and yellow stripes seems far more preserved than the tattered robes and boots. The former caster also has a wooden holy symbol of Gozreh under his robes but nothing else of interest.

Update character sheets with current hit points assuming no healing over the night but full access to spells.

Thograt channels his gods energy into a burst of healing energy for everyone.

"Right let's clean up that gear and use what we can. Brask get your team of scouts together and see if anythings changed out there. Be careful and try your best not to trigger anything till we're all out there ready to back you up."


"Aye sir. A'ight, ye 'eard tha dwarf! Get ye gear clean and ready. We go out as soon as ev'ryone's ready."

Brask sets to work cleaning up the masterwork studded leather he had pick out. Once he's done, he goes around to Hon, Kragg, and Magnum to see if they're ready or need any help. He also makes sure he gets his hammers that he throw in the last fight.


The quarterstaff is a masterwork small quarterstaff (perfect for Neji or Ninni--simple weapon two hands) and skeleton bashing.
As the doors are opened the passage is amazingly 'cleaned up'. All gear and corpses left behind are gone. The two side doors are closed again and not visible from this distance--the corridor looks like it was when you first entered.

Before you leave Magnum encourages Thograt to put some dwarves in the half plate, especially Khazad. "Make Khazad put it on if he doesn't want to, it's for his own good. Can you check to make sure these items aren't evil?

Can we see any sign of the bonfire glow from here? Not enough to see by but just to know it is still going?

What the...? where's all the bones and dust and such from earlier. The doors shut by themselves or had help. Think anything is behind them again? Only 1 way to find out I suppose and that ghoul is still out here somewhere. Follow your lead and direction Brask.

Gah! Even after all the cleaning it stinks of rotten ghouls! And what's this? Undead hair? When we get back I'm purging it by fire!
Khazad finally dons the plate and sticks the helm onto his head.
AC becomes 19, w00t


"Khazad, here is some lilac nectar. I save it for the ladies, but will make your armor smell better." Magnum hands Khazad a small vial of purple liquid that smells very nice. Maybe even nicer that any self respecting dwarf would smell like.
"I know of a big fire, if it is still ahead, to purge it with."


Brask takes the scouting party out again. Magnum hangs back with Neji. "We wouldn't want to spoil their darkvision party. They didn't even want a little light to show last time. Notice one of them is wearing white still."

Brask comes up to the concealed doors that he found last time. Open them or bypass them? Who is in the scout group, Brask, Kragg and Hon?
