dot. I'm going to work on updating Senjin in the next couple days.
As I posted in the thread, I'm going to make him a 2nd level Brawler....considering Snakebite Striker.

Signboy77 |

I'll admit to being pretty unfamiliar with the ACG Classes. I'll study up on Brawlers, but you may need to remind me of special abilities and such.
Hello Everyone! Thanks for playing.
Please post the following information for me here in the Discussion Thread:
Character Name
PFS Number
Day Job
Perception Modifier
Initiative Modifier
We'll get started once everyone is ready - probably won't be until the 14th of January, so feel free to take your time getting your characters ready.
And the Gameplay Thread is open for dotting as well.

![]() |

I'll dot with August here but if we need to go lower I'll nab someone else.

I am willing to play Roscoe out of tier if the party wants to go higher ...

Chusynd is 3rd level, so either way we go he's out of tier. No worries on my end.
I'll update him fully on the site so that his info is accurate over the next couple of days.

So far:
Level 2 Brawler Snakebite Striker
Level 1 Druid with a Lion
Level 3 Oracle
Level 4 Fighter
So that's where we're at so far. Could go either way at this point.

I took the liberty of updating the sign-up sheet to have a little APL equation. It looks like with the current highs (if I don't bring Sen, which I think I prefer to do anyways, based on the theme of the scenario), as long as EF has something 3 or less, we're solidly in low tier.
I'm pondering both Giovanni and Meatbeat at the moment. In brief, Giovanni is a sylph cleric of Gozreh (separatist with domains of Air (Storms) and Fire (Smoke)) who believes enjoying all of nature (including the less-than-legal portions) is an important option for everyone to have. He does smoke cloud and air control (not the airplane kind) for battlefield control, as well as the standard positive energy Cleric stuff. He's also sky-high at any time possible and met a fish-man, a bull-man, and three lizard-men in one day and it was mind-blowing. The other three days were kind of a big blur. Sheets are 100% offline right now, but uploading 2 sheets isn't that big a deal.
Meatbeat (whose build is unupdated but online) only speaks Taldane because I couldn't find a legal way to not be capable of speaking it in PFS, which (in conjunction with one of the worst BEST fantasy name generators) spawned the idea in the first place. Dwarven, drinks a lot, headbutts things with Pappy's Boulder Helmet, and hails from Thunderchute (where the miner's rocks sound like thunder rolling down the slope and isn't sure why the name is so funny to everyone). His two equally horribly named older siblings who were supposed to join the Society never got around to it or something, but their options don't matter because Pappy liked him best. Melee, fearless health battery, and bull rush master. Also, drunk miner (the family head's standard profession) in his off time.

I decided to just go with a plain old vanilla brawler. I hadn't made a character with any of the new playable races, so I chose a nagaji.

Hello everyone! Endless here. Still off in NZ for another week but I've got wifi for a couple days.
I think Burglar was hoping I'd bring a low-tier but I'd really like to push this guy to 5th. I also like playing him as much as possible since he has the Research Specialist boon (which requires me to play him to benefit from it as I interpret it), but I'll get to that later.

Profile hasn't been updated since his last game but I don't want to buy any equipment anyways. So he's basically ready to go besides maybe preparing different spells.

Signboy77 |

I put a link to the sign-up sheet on my profile, so it's easier to find if anyone needs to.
I see that the APL info has been updated. If I understand correctly (which I admit I may be misinterpreting), and APL of 2.5 can be rounded up or down.
IF we round up, that puts you guys at APL 3. With six players, that means playing high sub-tier with 4-player adjustment, right?
IF we round down, then it is strictly low sub-tier.
Choose wisely.

![]() |

After a couple playing up with six players horrible experiences this season, I'm not doing that anymore. That higher tier, even with a four player adjustment, has just routed us and I'm avoiding that from now on.
I'm fine with low tier, but I ain't jumping up to the higher level four player adjustment.

Signboy77 |

Yeah, when Endless ran this - I think we played up with the 4-person adjustment. We made it, but we had a couple of lucky breaks. And I think we were more at a solid APL 3 or slightly higher.
Also, I'm inclined to have you guys play down. I know that means not as much gold for the two 4th level folks, I hope that's alright.

Signboy77 |

Well, we were actually at 2.8 APL - but the level make up was 4,4,3,3,2,1
That's a fair difference from this group of 4,4,3,2,1,1

Signboy77 |

Yeah, my local Society's policy (and this may be the official way of doing things, not sure) is that if one person at a table votes down, then the table plays down.
Also, just got a bit of news from my bank - apparently my card's number has been swiped. The jokes on them - I make a HS teacher's wage! Someone used the card to buy pizza at Domino's in Las Vegas.
Anyway, this means that I currently do not have a card to use to purchase the scenario (I shouldn't have put it off). As soon as I'm provided my new plastic, I'll order.
Bank says it will take a few business days. Hopefully, I'll be ready to go by the time Endless is back from the land of the toothbrush fence.

Signboy77 |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Thank you for that. I'll show my gratitude by ensuring that your character dies last.
Joking aside, that was a very nice thing. I will prep this weekend and we'll be ready to go!

![]() |

*rocks back and forth in grandpa rocker* I remember back in the Brute Squad days, the GM was essentially "paid" the scenario! In the snow! Both ways! Was a good system. GM wanted scenarios for local games, players bought gm scenarios on promise of them getting run.
Any suggestions on to what to bring from my alias page? I'm open to almost anything short of "rolling a new, 1st level arcane."
-Posted with Wayfinder

Signboy77 |

I'm curious about #72.
Or, it looks like Tensen is a member of the Sovereign Court - since the scenario directly contributes to that faction (and only that faction) that would be a good choice.

![]() |

Khamul is fine playing down. I have't checked out the new APL rules but under the previous rules there was only one rare exception where the players were allowed to choose subtier (if the APL was between subtiers but there weren't actually any PCs in the high subtier range). They may have changed that though.
But yeah, the old between-subtiers-means-you-get-to-choose system worked pretty well, except for the few bad apples who purposefully played up every single game so that their characters had twice as much gold and hence a lot more power by the time high levels rolled around.

Signboy77 |

I should've qualified that that said rule of choice was used a couple years ago - back in Season 4 (before they started averaging the out of tier gold). I don't play in real life often enough for that to have been an issue again.
And really, our issue is the fact that the APL is at 2.5. And the PFS Guide states that when the average ends in a .5, you can either round up or down. Round up to APL 3 and we go high sub-tier. Round down to APL 2 and we go low sub-tier.
If our APL was 2.4 or 2.6, this wouldn't be an issue - it would go to either high tier or low tier automatically.
Speaking of rounding - there's a fun little thread over in the Rules forum debating whether or not to round odd Level numbers when using the Swashbuckler's Panache mechanic (and Gunslinger Grit).

August Ftr4
Chusynd Ora 3
Khamûl Nec3/Ftr1
Roscoe Drd1
Senjin Brw2
We're in good shape melee-wise, I think. Chusynd is a minor buffer/bad trapspringer/healbot, and Khamul is a Bad Touch Guy, IIRC. (EF should feel free to correct my probably-faulty memory — Glass River was more than a year ago, after all. LOL)
My answer to what to play, mecha, is almost always "play who you would enjoy playing." (Which doesn't work especially well for myself, cos if I don't enjoy playing a PC it gets retired/killed/rebuilt pretty darn quick. Have a 3rd level Cleric that's effective but BORING about which I need to do something, in fact.)
(But I digress.)
I'll put in a plug for Toshi, for old times' sake ;-), but nothing more than that.

![]() |

Khamul's magic has gotten more potent since then and his melee capabilities, while decent enough for support, have started to really fall behind straight-melee characters. He's really a switch-hitter, depending on what the party needs. Probably the thing he's best at (for now at least) is spamming Command Undead, but I don't think that'll come up in this scenario.

![]() |

I'm curious
#72 was built as a rejected entry in Nisroch's Silent Enforcers. They're talked about in the Nidal section in the Inner Sea World Guide. Essentially, they're the closest thing to a SS in Golarion, except they've had their vocal chords removed (or just ruined or something) to increase stealth efficiency and are effectively a heightened slave class, politically speaking. #72 was initially inducted, but never took to the social hunting aspects and was shelled out to Zarta as a political favour. Boar Style in combat for that gory Rip-and-Tear combat style, though there's no good way to go about having both Boar Style and TWF (which is kind of ideal to use the former.)
I double-forgot Thunderspirit was in this and about Toshi. I may have to fill that request once I double-check he's up-to-date...
Probably the thing he's best at (for now at least) is spamming Command Undead, but I don't think that'll come up in this scenario.
Like every other scenario I've played with him, do ho ho. I think you're 2/2 on using it with me around...
-Posted with Wayfinder

![]() |

Yeah, it doesn't come up as often as I would hope. The first few seasons had far too many undead and people complained so now I think they refrain from throwing too many skeletons in the low tier scenarios. Unfortunately I've already played most of those old undead-ridden scenarios.
I just played Khamul in Risen from the Sands though and he had a field day controlling everything and turning the skeletons against each other and whatnot. Unfortunately almost every other spell I prepared was not useful against undead so once he ran out of Commands he was relegated to frontlining, which didn't work out so well.

![]() |

I actually meant that I've seen you use it in (I think) every scenario I've played with the character.
And as far as APL...
In order to determine which subtier a mixed-level group of PCs must play in, calculate the group’s average party level (APL). Divide the total number of character levels by the number of characters in the party. You should always round to the nearest whole number. If you are exactly at 0.5, let the group decide which subtier they wish to play.
I think the 4 is still acceptable (though if you want to keep on the wealth curve, yeah. You'd still get Out-of-tier gold, though.

Scratch August, hes gonna play in a module. I'll bring this guy. I need to update him as he is now 3rd level.

Sorry, but I am out of commission for a day or two. I need a root canal and the antibiotics I've been given for the inflammation have yet to bring the pain down. Sorry for delays. Endless, can you let Bold Strider that he may need to bot Desmond and Maaarv in those games?

The antibiotics and ibuprofen are currently doing their job. Not sure how long it will last.

Thanks for a great session, everyone. I'll probably be cutting back on games, and may not run any for a while as my Master's classes start back up.

Thanks so much for running for us, DM! That last fight was starting to worry me for a minute with that DR!

![]() |

I'm sure you'll find a ton of volunteers here to help you DM, lol!

![]() |

Oh wait! Before we go, Khamul needs to ask you to tell him some stories to write in his Chronicle (for his Research Specialist boon). You just need to tell him a story he hasn't already heard (so a scenario not in the list below):
Khamul has played:
04-18 The Veteran's Vault
00-01 Silent Tide
00-24 Decline of Glory
05-01 The Glass River Rescue
00-23 Tide of Morning
05-12 Destiny of the Sands Part I
05-15 Destiny of the Sands Part II
05-16 Destiny of the Sands Part III
05-22 Scars of the Third Crusade
And he has already heard about:
03-01 The Frostfur Captives
00-14 The Many Fortunes of Grandmaster Torch
05-08 The Confirmation
04-SP The Ruins of Bonekeep: The Silent Grave
05-SP The Ruins of Bonekeep: Maze to the Mind Slave
04-15 The Cyphermage Deilemma
This list probably needs to be updated slightly but you get the idea.

Ah yes!
So there we were, hustled to the Kitharodian Academy in Taldor with just enough advance warning to be dangerous, as we had but two hours to delve the secret archives of the library. Found a helpful young gent who escorted us to the library, where we uncovered a hidden staircase into the secret archives! What fun!
We unearthed a number of valuable tomes that aided the Society in its struggle near the Worldwound — you've heard of that, I'm sure? As well as a friendly leonine fellow who claimed to be a "guardian." No clue quite what he was guardian-ing, but still. Talkative fellow, despite his appearance. Makes sense in a library that you would not be judging a book by its cover! Ha ha!
Now let's see, where was I? Oh yes. Did have one minor scrape, with an animated book, of all things. A lovely lady by the name of Seoni, as I recall, burnt that little problem right up, and we managed to make it back just as the music reached its crescendo! Lively times! Praise Aroden!

![]() |

"Very good, Chusynd! Yes, this will certainly make it in!" The necromancer scribbles furiously in his notebooks.
Don't think I've gotten that one yet so I'll mark it down when I get home! Thanks!
I also just realized that Khamul levels with this game. Nice! One step closer to Eldritch Knight!
