I thought you had the right idea with changing the letters around like that - I thought one of those combos might have done something already.

Angelica Nenaviste |

But it was only presented under the assumption that she was informed of what the notes said. With Pakak, having read them aloud, we can go back to her original reaction. That is if just reading the notes is enough and no check was required.

Valtyra Valdemar |
Oh, I thought, since he revealed the info, people did know. I said, that if it hadn't been revealed, she would have just passed around. I didn't know things were retconned somehow.

Ulfak Niarka |

"Wrath. Cruel. Kindness. Maybe need to get angry at box? Or hit it. It stone so no wound. Not clever though. Hit it on magic - like fire. We say fire is angry."
Personally I doubt the box would have moving letters unless they held some significance. It could be a name but I expect you need to do more than just re-arranging the letters otherwise a baby could open it if it were lucky. Or a thief. Try detect magic too.
Ulfak gets bored with so many words and heads across the library to the mantelpiece and pulls down a glass decanter - refilling Pakak's mug. Taking a swig, he passes it on to Angelica again.
"We guests. This good."

Angelica Nenaviste |

She is somewhat surprised to see the drink offered to her, so focused was she on rearranging the letters into any possible pattern. She looks quick to see if Ulfak has another mouthful of spit from his chewing root, and takes a drink once she's comfortable with her assumption that he doesn't. "I'll show it some wrath soon enough if it I can't get these letters to work out."
In case it's command word activated, she said each one of the combinations she made aloud as she moved it together. I think it is a word puzzle. The only real words I could make out of the letters were included in her attempt, Ulcer, Lucre, and Cruel. I think if it were a name, the one she mentioned Ulrec (or Urlec) would be the most reasonable sounding one. Lastly, was the Cure, but with the extra L makes me think that's not it. Or, we could just have it and the GM hasn't had time to post since the notes were shared.

Valtyra Valdemar |
Yes, you have all three of the real words that it can make - I think it must be one of them if it's anything. I would assume its an English word since the original word is English.

Pakak |

Pakak takes it, but doesn't drink much, "Thanks." The priest contemplates, "A virtue and a vice, cruelty and kindness..." While they work, he does cast detect magic. "I wonder how strong the magic on it IS."
Casting Detect magic on the puzzle, though as he lacks certain skills it may not help much

Sir Manfred VonFalkenburg |

Looking around, Sir Manfred spots several bottles of refreshment and some glasses on a sideboard. Walking over, he selects a nice port wine and fills a glass.
Looking over to the rest, he points to his glass.
"A little wine, anyone? Hopefully it will inspire us to greater imagination."

Angelica Nenaviste |

Angelica's jovial nature gone, her concentration absorbed in her task, all notion of her former mischief gone with a simple explanation. "None for me. Wine is good when sitting by a fire, sharing quiet conversation. It occupies the hands to keep from fidgeting. Right now, I need to fidget." Not once does she remove her attention from the box and its movable letters.

Sir Manfred VonFalkenburg |

Sir Manfred pours a couple of fingers for Pakak (and anyone else who wants one) then raises a toast to their new endeavour.
Taking a swallow, he raises an eyebrow.
"Very good. The Chelish wines never cease to surprise me with their quality."
He looks over to Angelica.
"If you feel like you've hit a brick wall, take a break and have a little wine. It has always helped me."
