Shadowrun 5th Campaign

1 to 50 of 56 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

You wake up beaten, but alive. Memories of the previous night begin to slowly seep back into your mind like painful syrup that finally coalesces into a solid mass of agony. Being forcibly jacked in, then ejected from the matrix had its price, but this was the worst dumpshock you ever encountered.

What's worse is not knowing who was doing it, only referring to himself as Mr.Johnson. Why he was doing it he made abundantly clear with his sinister voice that still sends shivers down your spine,"You are good at what you do i'll give you that chummer, but you'll need to be better if you are going to survive this task. Do it well and I may even let you live after, do it to my standards and I may even release you from service. Now go, you have much to do."

That was the first time and last time you heard of this particular "Mr.Johnson", but you feared it would not be the last.

Hello Everyone, welcome to my Shadowrun 5th PbP. I am new to this system, but its my hope that I can provide a good game for everyone and we can have a good time. PbP seems a good way to learn a new system as it allows one plenty of time to look things up and prepare.

Character Generation:
We are going to try the Priority System, it looks interesting and I think it could be fun. We will go with the Prime Version as this particular Mr.Johnson would not bother harassing mere low-level dataslaves.
PRIME RUNNER PLAY
• Modify the resources column on the Priority Table as follows:
• Priority A: 500,000 nuyen
• Priority B: 325,000 nuyen
• Priority C: 210,000 nuyen
• Priority D: 150,000 nuyen
• Priority E: 100,000 nuyen
• Karma: Each player receives 35 Karma to customize
characters (maximum of 70 Karma).
• Gear Restrictions: Device Ratings must be rated at 6 or less.
Maximum Availability is 15 or less.
• Nuyen Restrictions: Characters may convert up to 25 Karma
into nuyen (50,000 nuyen).
• Karma Restrictions: Instead of the normal Charisma x 3
Karma for contacts, increase this amount to Charisma x 6
Karma for contacts.
• Follow all other rules for Character Creation/Advancement
as laid out in this chapter.

Background:
Give me at least one paragraph of background, and in it add something that Mr.Johnson is holding over you that is forcing you to be his personal shadowrunner. It must be something fairly sever to cause you to commit criminal acts for him. In a way you will be helping me shape the game because as the game progresses reliving Mr.Johnson of said leverage will be part of the game.

Any questions feel free to ask, but please do not ask me to run a different game or use a different system this is what I have to offer you.

Grand Lodge

dotting...thinking street samurai..

Scarab Sages

Tentatively interested. The priority system is probably going to be a deal-breaker, but I'll see if I can come up with an idea anyway.

Tentatively interested. Agree point based or karma based would allow characters to be created easier. Most likely Rigger (already have a Rigger profile, just bad luck with GMs so far).

Chummer 5 is a character creation tool for 5th edition, although I don't know how well it will handle the mods to character creation.

Dark Archive

Allow me a moment to meditate on this. I've so many runner concepts in my headspace that now that I've got a chance for them to see the light of day I've gotta see which one is ready to bring their A-Game!

For those using Chummer 5. Hint, ALWAYS save your character before you finalize it, and then save it again afterwards with a different file name so you can go back to your pre-finalized character if you need to make changes. You have to finalize it to print it out.

I want to give the system a fair shot before I dismiss any of it out of hand so I am going to stick to the priority system. This is my first game of this system and I think that is fair.

Fair enough.

How are you going to handle the following things not in the rules?

A) Writing your own software.
B) Doing your own parts installs/modifications to vehicles.

Sure, I'm all for running the game you want to run. It's just a deal-breaker for me. But, I wish you luck!

Ok I know I have 5tj ed around someplace so color me interested as i have yet to try it. Is this a one shot or campaign? Also looking at a spec ops or street doc type

Not going to be able to do either of those things right off the cuff I am sorry. Reason is I need to learn the rules for the software and vehicles that already exist before I can handle new things. This is very much a game for newbies, so if you are a hardened veteran at the newer versions of Shadowrun this is probably not for you. I am just getting back into it. I played/GMed 2nd ed and this seems very different.

Yep, it's radically different.

Oh well, good luck. I'm probably a bad pick then if you want newbies. Good luck.

I am shooting for a campaign. Those characters sound great.

tentative dot. I have another recruitment I am in that ends on the 10th so i wanna see how that goes.

regarding the system, though i am familiar with the game itself (themes, larger factions, etc.) I am only familiar enough with the system to make a character with Herolab according to the rules. I think i can click "prime runner" and have it do the standard options that way. I will play with it and see, if i decide i have enough free time to try to add another game.

Yes in Herolab prime runner is the box to check to do it the way I have it set up. I look forward to your submission. I have a friend that will be making one soon also.

I'd be interested in being part of your game. I'm extremely new though, and would need you to hold my hand through character creation and during the actual game.

Dark Archive

Hmmm. I've never played a rigger, but I've always wanted to. Now that mdt dropped, I might just step in to that vacuum.

Mind you, I've always thought that Riggers were...cheesy. They can sit in the car in their underwear while controlling a hyper-steel murder-bot that vomits bullets and fire. Of course, while street sams can heal, once a drone goes down, that's usually a big financial hit to the rigger.
Also, I've never read the rules for Rigger. But! Since you're doing the work of reading the whole system, it's only fair that I show solidarity and learn something new too. ^_^

One thing's for sure: I'm putting Priority A into money. =)

If i make a character it will probably be a mage

Sounds good. I do not mind helping DboyC83, I am new too. I have herolab which helps Immensely. I like Riggers Atlas, in the new video games on Steam they are a bit more hands on.

Dotting for interest! I've always wanted to give decking a go and I have a Dwarf Decker that is pretty ready to go. Made in Herolab... I'll review it and create an alias.

yeah i liked the SR games from Harebrained Schemes

Dark Archive

OMG TOTALLY! Which ones have you played? Have you played them all? Did you get the Director's Cut of Dragonfall??? The new mission with the guy who based his entire life off the old SCA-type TV shows I thought was the best of the new missions!
OH, and of course Hong Kong is just the best. I like how they keep improving the UI with every new game! I mean, DMS didn't even -feel- that clunky (except for the obvious rigger+decker char issues, obviously!)) but then after the Director's Cut you're like "wow, all these problems that I didn't even know I had are now gone!" I mean, some of the level-up options for the NPC are like "well, duh, this is a no-brainer" but it's still better than the nothing we were getting before!

So, did you all kickstart their Battletech game? There's still time if you haven't or you wanna up your juice!

(Ya, sorry, um, I do like me some FASA. ^_^)

I kickstarted HK, got my name in the credits.

The first two came out before i was even aware of them.

Chronicles is pretty fun too (Boston Lockdown)

Battletech i was only marginally into.

I finished the main game and started Dragonfall, I did not know there was a director's cut. I was without a computer for a bit.

Hi, I have never done PbP but have some experiance with 5th ed shadowrun.
I would like to update a character of mine from normal runner to prime and use her backstory as bases for this character.

Backround:
Raven, as she is known as, is a very capable(high magic) adept Elf who prefers stealth and long range combat(snipers)if she can pick. Thats what her training as gone to mostly though some close range shooting and some melee wont stop her. She is up for all sorts of work, but likes being her own boss and handpicking her work if she can after how it was with her former employer. She ain´t afraid of doing wetwork. She is charming and beautiful with black flowing hair. Her plan really is have fun with her job, gain some cash and settle down whe she has enough to live a good life for sometime.(let me know if you want more, will detail it better for myself when I got time)

leverage:
She had some special ops training from Renraku and was hired (off the books) for some "odd" jobs by Sarah Silverleaf who was a employe of Renraku. After some time she realized her next assignment was her last. Her only way out was to fake her death and kill Sarah. So she did and managed somehow, without leaving trace or evidance behind or so she though. Now Mr. Johnson is blackmailing her to work or Renraku will know she is alive, which would mean very big trouble for her.

hope its okey I make stats later but if you want to see them before chosing then pls let me know.

ok, here is an initial exoskeleton build of a street doc healer who has seen better days...

Tell me if I have this right and what I am missing as this is my first time at 5th ed, and I only have 4th ed at home..

Scarab Sages

Just to pipe up again, I'm also a huge Hairbrained Schemes fan. Their SR games are very well done. (I've played all of them.) And, of course, I'm a huge battletech fan and backed their latest kickstarter. I'm a fan of all things FASA. Catalyst...not so much.

Just keep in mind that there are a lot of differences between the feel of their games and the current (5th edition) game. Not to mention the mechanics, of course.

Here's the early crunch of Kip84's submission Beta-Axe, still a little work to do. I'll post his background once I get the ideas in my head written up...

Count me in, probably a samurai since I'm still new-ish to Shadowrun.

Yeha i like that the 5e rules are different in feel from the games, i felt the games kept things pretty simple in terms of equipment.

though i think 5e may have gone a bit overboard with the gear.... haha

Cool a lot of interest looks like. I will respond to you all before I go to bed ( I have odd hours that's why I PbP) but just wanted you all to know I am still here.

I like the idea for Raven.

Rai Zon the only thing I noticed was "Starting Nuyen: 50+(3d6x60)" Should be 325,000 subtracting what ever you bought since you placed it in priority B.

Beta looks ok, if I could just see where you placed your priorities though that will help.

Would be interested in throwing my hat into the ring...what archetypes do you have already??

Daniel Stewart wrote:

So far I have the stats for a Dwarf Decker(Beta-Axe) a Street Doc (Rai Zon) and I have background for a high magic adept (Raven)

Liberty's Edge

Well it looks like you are light on muscle...so maybe a street samurai..will work something up and get it to you ASAP

I'm interested in this, and have an Ex-Cop in mind whose specialty is Pistols, investigations, and Armorer. :)

Background:
Background
"Bleeds Blue" is how they used to describe folks like Gerald Patrick Ryan. Since the late 1800's, his family lived in the Phoenix area and served in Law Enforcement in one capacity or the other. The first of his folks served as an Arizona ranger at the turn of the 20th century, another served with the FBI in the 1920's and 30's. His great-great-grandfather, great-grandmother and grandfather and father were all members of the Phoenix Police Department (and saw the transition of Phoenix and the surrounding area from the US to the Pueblo Corporate Council territory). His great grandmother was full-bluded Hopi indian, so Gerald does feel the need to maintain a bit of a connection to the native american culture because of that.

In 2060, Patrick (he's gone by his middle name all his life) joined the Phoenix Police Department shortly after earning an associate's degree in Criminal Justice. Just after his graduation from the academy, Patrick was assigned to the task force investigating the local connections to the terrorist attack on the Kachina Society ceremony and the death of Carlos Estefan. For his part, he performed admirably and was fast-tracked for promotion to detective which happened a year later (2063) with a transition to Lone Star Corporation. For eight and a half years he served with distinction and investigated everything from local homicides to being attached to a joint PCC/Lone Star task force investigating an area-wide criminal ring. This however turned out to be his undoing.

In February 2074, an explosion rocked the Task Force headquarters, killing 40 and severely injuring two. As one of the two injured, found himself where he'd never wished to be; with cybernetic replacement limbs and eyes. As he neared completion of twelve months of recovery, rumors came out that blamed Patrick and his dead partner for the explosion. After six weeks of the tenseness and acusatory looks, Patrick had enough and quit. At this time too, Patrick learned his younger sister (by 10 years) had weeks before gone off to Seattle and disappeared. The family however couldn't be bothered to let Patrick know because of all the issues he was having at the time.

Knowing the numbers for the likelihood of being found by the Knight Errant Security Services (with all their other missing people and issues of the learning pains of a new city contract) he made up his mind to go find her himself. After a couple of weeks, he found her alive and well and working in a moderate-class gentleman's club near the old downtown. Talking with her and hearing her reasons for going out on her own convinced Patrick to do the same and take the chance for a fresh start.

That fresh start was rapidly tainted however. Patrick's sister was assaulted on her way home from work one evening, and when Patrick found out about it, something went cold inside him. After weeks of digging, he found the attacker, a leader of a local gang. After the encounter, the next day, the gang leader was found dead in his apartment with various body parts at first thought to be missing, but later determined to have been swallowed in pieces. No proof led directly to Patrick, but rumors again abounded, coloring his rep.

Ill try set up Raven´s stats as soon as I can, maybe monday after work.
what format would be good for you to get and see it in?

I am most familiar with Hero Labs, but just making spoilers around the main parts is also good. I am not picky

@ Arknight I take it the last part is the piece Mr.Johnson has on you?

Correct. :)

Ok, settled on a bounty hunter character from the Athabaskan Council. Do you want a background first, or should I post his crunch? (I use Herolab, so I could also send you the filre if you wanted)

Greywolf's Background:

Laying in the cheap hotel, David again go over the series of events that brought him here.
A well known tracker and hunter, it was not a surprise when the town elders came to him to hunt the dangerous beast that had been terrorizing the area...a Wendigo.
Tracking the beast was not very difficult, but when it suddenly veered from its current path, then I became concerned.
I followed it to a remote cabin nestled in a copse of trees. Even from a mile away you could hear the screams of the creatures victims. I got there just before the beast had the chance to kill a young girl it was menacing. Two shots from my trusty Remington was all it took, but even as I took the shots, the creature slashed the girl.
The cut was not deep, but the evil from the beast had flowed into the girl...she was now infected. I knew what my duty was, and I drew my Cavalier Deputy and ...should have shot. But I could not kill her.
I bound her wounds and returned her to the town's clinic. I received the bounty for the Wendigo, but it felt wrong. It was only a matter of weeks before the girl disappeared. I had to set things right.
I packed up my Toyota Gopher and headed south, following on the heels of the monster I allowed to go free. In Edmonton I almost had her, but it was a trap. The creature lured me to a dead end alley, then disappeared into the sewers. When I attempted to follow, a pack of ghouls stepped in and beat me down. I thought I was gone, when those shadowrunners showed up. They skragged the ghouls and took me out of there. By the time I was conscious, I was in a hotel room, hooked up to a bunch of machines. My eyes felt ..weird..as well as a general ache in my muscles.
The man who walked in, Mr. Johnson, told me that I was a very lucky fella. Seems the ghouls did more to me than I thought. When I arrived, my body looked to have been flayed, and my eyes had been removed (eaten, so I was told) by the ghouls. They had started to feast on my body while I was still alive, and thanks to Mr. Johnson, I have new eyes and my damaged muscles were replaced.
Now I owe him, and have done so for some time. The thing is, I remember being rescued by those shadowrunners before the ghouls had a chance to chow down on me...or so I thought. Also, while he keeps telling me he will assist in my hunt for the Wendigo, he has yet to pass on any credible information.
So now under an assumed name, I am slowly paying back Mr. Johnson in the hope he will help me find the Windigo I helped create.

Hello! I'm deeply interested in joining a Shadowrun game. Question though since I didn't see it anywhere. Are we limited to the Core Rulebook only or are other books allowed? I assume you are limiting to the Core Rulebook since you want to learn the system, but I figured I'd ask anyway. I will make another post soon with my submission of a Face. :)

If you could limit it to the core for now that would be helpful. If there is something specific you want I might consider it.

Liberty's Edge

To be honest, there isn't any one thing I was looking for. In general being a Face, or any other archetype, gets a lot more options with the inclusion of other books from my experience with previous editions of Shadowrun. If I was going to put a finger on something... it would be some of the Adept powers from Street Grimoire that make Power Points more directly useful to playing a Face like Authoritative Tone or Cool Resolve from Street Grimoire.

There's also some fun Qualities that would help mechanically flesh out a story but since everyone else who's submitted a character so far has probably used just the Core Rulebook I have no problem sticking to just that. :)

Liberty's Edge

I can send you the herolab file if you like.

Backstory :
Thomson used to be legit, a decent job with Neonet. Low in the ranks of a small subsidiary for sure but the pay was ok and the way he saw it the only way was up.

About a year ago a higher up Thomson hadn't met before swung by the department for an inspection. After a week this guy, Hanes, offered Thomson some overtime. It was all hush and a little strange but the extra Nuyen was just what he needed right now. Just test some of these experimental BTLs designed to be more realistic but with special programming that makes them less addictive... Yeah right.

It wasn't long before Thomson's life was spiralling out of control. He started using BTL's more and more buying them off the streets. He lost his Fiancé, then his job, then before he knew it we was in the gutter replaying the same chip over and over.

The next few months were rough. A vaguely familiar man picked him up off the street. Said there was work that needed doing and a benefactor that was gonna get him well again and off the chips. The withdrawals between chipping were horrid but Thomson was starting to be able to function again. This man even said he knew where Cammy was, that she was waiting for him to get well again, that she still loved him...

Thomson had a new name, BetaAxe, the work he was doing to pay for his rehab was dangerous and illegal so bye bye 'Thomson.' Still he looked forward to the day he'd be free of the BTL's, free to go back to his real life, he just hoped Cammy could wait a few more months.

Essentially BetaAxe is such a mess he hasn't worked out that Johnson is just stringing him along. Giving him just enough BTLs to keep him hooked, with his Fiancé, Cammy, as the dangling carrot to keep him moving forward. In reality the Johnson probably has Cammy locked away somewhere in case BetaAxe works it out, or at least keeps tabs on her.

What do you think?

Born a Safe Haven baby left at the Shepherd's Home Orphanage in Tacoma. Jessica grew up quickly in the dangerously middle-class life Tacoma offered. Between the Mafia, the Yakiza, the gangers and the drug pushers, Jessica learned that there's always someone with a bigger gun. So Jessica learned other skills to help her survive. How to talk, how to be silent, how to be unseen, and how to make anyone into a chummer (at least for a little while) all used to help herself and her fellow orphans survive the darkly lit streets they lived on. By the time she was sixteen, Siren had already become a club girl hooked on the latest batches of Novacoke circulating the scene. Living her night life to the fullest, Jessica first learned of shadowrunning the night a stranger said he'd give her a thousand nuyen credstick if she would play army candy for the night. Jessica quickly agreed and was introduced to Johnathan "Speak-Easy" King, a nova-hot thief who ran his own crew of misfits and malcontents. Having a kind of father figure for the first time, Jessica was given the name Siren after the crew caught her singing to herself. Speak-Easy and the rest of his crew caught Jessica as much as they could while running shadows of Seattle until they felt she was finally ready. A year passed before Jessica's luck ran out, and a run went bad. Losing the entire group except for Speak-Easy, Jessica was left holding the bag with her face plastered all over the security footage. Everything quickly spiraled out of control for her after that, ending with her beaten and bruised body aching as the words of Mr. Johnson ring in her ears.
