Everlight Preacher, Jean-Christophe Charpentier | Know Religion

The bishop looks at the spymaster on the floor. He nods a couple seconds after the doctor gives her orders. Grabbing the golden holy symbol of Sarenrae at his neck, and with a quick tug, the chain around the winged-sword breaks. He grips the symbol in front of him. “Of course, my child.

Guillaumine, DC 17 Sense Motive for All others:
The Bishop seemed to have a moment of hesitation before helping. His brow lowered ever so slightly, forming creased wrinkles over his forehead.

With a slow pace, he moves towards Luc Gardinier, tapping the elf with the winged-sword necklace, holding it against the spymaster’s shoulder. The bishop begins to chant to his goddess.

The mirror on the door to the wardrobe does not ripple or warp as the seer presses against it. Through her tinted lens, she sees herself, and of those around her. So close to the mirror, Halcyon could peer past what her curse usually limited.

She saw a warped reflection of the bar counter, the shapes of Rosalie and Silas blended as one colorful, vibrant blur.

She saw Marcus and Beatrice clearer, the two almost as close together as the other pair, both brandishing weapons of their own.

She saw the curious crowd looking in, lurking at the southern gate of the warehouse. From the distance, they all blended together. In this moment, they weren’t people: they were colors, shapes, swirls, an abstract swarm, consequences of the imperfections of the mirror in front of her.

A blazing spectacle, a brilliant dancing light of red and gold, replaces the crowd of colors. As the oracle twists back, her vision is cut from her curse. The shrieks and screams confirmed what she saw, as did the horrified expression of those on the stage.

The fireball disappeared as quickly as it burst to life. When the embers faded into the wind, almost all of those caught in the spell were on the ground, collapsed, small flames licking at their clothes and hair. As the fires fades to the soft winds outside, amidst the screams and shouts, you swear you hear the giggling of a young woman.

Very few survive the fireball. Ten guests drop to the floor, no longer moving as the flames disappear. Romane Viuexpont appears to have endured the spell, her once wonderful white dress now in tatters. She dashes out of view from those inside.

Darius Agnes seems strangely unharmed by the spell, somehow managing to avoid the fireball entirely. He looks to the streets, skyward, while drawing a dagger. He throws it into the air, south.

One of the Mercenaries took a defensive position at the moment of the explosion. They rise, spear ready.

Inside the warehouse, the guests scramble. Jean-Christophe continues to cast his spell, and the spymaster rambles on, telling everyone to run once more.

Reyes and Augustine dash towards each other. They slink to the counter, placing themselves behind it with Rosalie and Silas, who had similar ideas.

Sibylle drinks a potion. She disappears, vanishing magically as she downs her vial.

Evelynn lets out a curse, dashing outside, weapon in hand.

Gaston jumps atop his pony, dashing through the warehouse at breakneck speeds.

Vincent keeps his post by the mirror, his glance shifting between the scene outside and the mirror. He puts his knife down for a moment, drawing a potion and taking a quick swig.

Gerard yells out his sister's name. He sprints toward the southern door, towards the fireball and his sister.

Beatrice is one of many who let out a shriek. She looks to Marcus. "Wha-Wh-What, what do we - we do?"

Verrill takes a drink of a potion, and draws a thin blade from his sleeve. The ratfolk looks frantic as his focus darts to a new subject each second.

Mirabelle hides by one of the tables by the door. Her hands go to her head as she falls to her knees.

Estelle and an elven man walk towards the crates by the southern exit. The elf jots quickly into a notebook.

Seth doesn't see the explosion, but he hears it. He turns his head in the direction if the explosion before turning back towards Gill and the mirror. He speaks towards Vincent. "Can you deal with anything that comes through that mirror?"

If Vincent responds with a yes then Seth makes his way towards outside. If he responds with a no or an I don't know then Seth will take up a post on the opposite side of the Vincent and draw his sword.

Lucia turns and looks for a good place to hide. Seeing Estelle and the elven gentleman towards the side of the warehouse, she makes her way over to them.

Party Warehouse Map | Second Warehouse Map

Vincent begins to take off to follow Halcyon before Seth asks him to guard the mirror. He quickly combs his fingers through his dark hair, returning to his post. "Yeah, look after her, Seth"

Lucia sprints towards Estelle and the elven man. Estelle does poorly to hide her concern for those outside, but stays quiet amidst the nearby cries for help. The elf keeps writing in his journal. He seems to write key words of what is happening and what leads up to it: "d'Orsay speech" "spymaster from mirror" "fireball - dozen targets."

For Halcyon:
Looking west, you sense no evil auras. As you move across the stage, you gather that Vincent, three guards, and Mirabelle were within range. There seemed to be no presence outside the warehouse's walls, and you doubt they are thick enough to block your spell, unless they are lead lined.

Mako will follow you and act on your turn. If you like, you can roll Mako's damage and attack rolls (1d20+4 for 1d4+2), though otherwise I will be doing it. He should have the stats of a 3rd level Druid's Animal Companion.

Seth, move yourself as you like. Should have brought your horse like Gaston ;)

The Exchange

Male Kitsune Bard (thunderstriker) 1

Marcus looks panicked at the downed populace and wants to go over to heal them, and has a cure spell beginning to form on his hands when he sees the woman at his side and he frowns, resolutely changing the spell to a summon, creating an air elemental commanding it to "find who hurt and killed those people,"

Guards

As soon as the explosion went off outside, the mercenaries refocused themselves. Two that had reached the stage turned on their heels, doubling back towards the southern entrance. A shout pierces those of the guests from outside: “Caster! Up high, my location!

Two of the soldiers stay present, one taking a spot beside the priest and the spymaster, the other setting up a defensive stance by the North-west entrance.

The mercenary hit by the fireball drops her spear, grabbing two bodies and bringing them inside.

Hostile Forces

Whoever casts spells outside does something that ushers another wave of cries. A high pitched voice chimes, almost sing-songy: “Don’t leave, loves, aren’t you happy to see me?!” Outside flickers with a violet light, the source seeming to be from both east and west.

Guests

Vincent stays by the mirror, knife ready for any surprise reinforcements. His free hand pats at his chest, grabbing a vialed potion.

Jean-Christophe continues to pray beside the babbling spymaster.

Verrill takes another potion, popping the cork off and downing the vial. As he drops the vial, he briefly warms those nearby like a furnace, though the effect fades quickly. He waits for Gill to act.

Mirabelle peeks around the corner of her table. Quickly she returns, putting her hand in her small purse, searching for something.

Guests from the south trickle back into the warehouse, most with some form of burn or scorching. Hobbled against her elder brother Gerome, Romane Vieuxpont casts a spell upon herself. The woman begins to address her wounds, her hands glowing softly, hovering over her wounds. More than anything, Romane is livid, teeth grit together, dripping curses and threats for “that b****.”

Sinclair, the woman who has trailed behind him this afternoon, and Darius emerge in the warehouse. Darius manages to bring in a fallen woman, dragging her body across the warehouse floor.

Outside: something strange occurs. Several Alexander Ravenhall’s run wildly, drawing attention to themselves. The older men sprint around, wave wildly, and call out to the assaulter.

Party Warehouse Map | Second Warehouse Map

Gaston rushes past those attempting to make their way inside. His pony, Fortune, darts through the crowd with relative ease. The pony stops, Gaston takes aim, and a sound like thunder roars as he shoots.

As Marcus finishes his spell, a wind spirals around him. It takes shape, a small elemental comprised seeml wind and dirt. As Marcus issues his order, the being flies to the south, rising off the ground, extinguishing the lingering flames as it passes them.

Mirabelle is taken by surprise when Halcyon gets close, nearly jumping in fright. She smiles weakly when she realizes it is merely Halcyon.

The oracle couldn’t make out much due to her curse, but gathered that the guests outside were heading north, away from whatever was attacking. One of the crimson plumed mercenaries has her spear angled at the sky, and takes slow steps to the south.

Mako barks affirmatively to Halcyon, trailing behind her as she approaches the door.

Halcyon:

You aren't sure if Mirabelle's reaction to your appearance was genuine or not, but her hand absconded from her bag rather quickly as you approached.

I forgot to add a song. This attack is brought to you by Vice Point by VHS Dreams. Combat songs will usually fit their faction, though that is of course OOC knowledge.

Guards

The mercenaries continue to move towards their destination. One stops at the south-west door, standing guard, while another sprints towards Lucia and those around her. The mercenary asks if any of those nearby have combat experience or can tend to the wounded.

Estelle Bellerose answers the call: “I, I was raised by priests, I, I can help.

Romane speaks over Estelle: “She’s going to rue this. Give me your weapon,” she says to the armored fighter, “I’ll gut her.

The mercenaries outside at the western street take steps towards the glowing violet flames, and the one closest to the assailant at the northern road begins to bring a wounded guest indoors.

Assailants

Amidst laughter, a woman’s voice rings out. She sound happy, jubilant even. “A breeze won’t extinguish me!” Three low roars sound off in quick succession as three pillars of light launch from the air toward the ground. Guests

The remaining guests outside either push their way past the mercenaries and Halcyon to find their way in or attempt to flee from the scene entirely.

Vincent follows Halcyon’s instructions, moving in front of the wardrobe and shattering the mirrors on each door. He turns back to Halcyon. “Mirrors shattered, what else?

Verrill chases after the doctor. “Though perhaps best we wait, um, until they are brought closer? We can set up a station here, why go any further?” Despite his apprehension, he continues to follow Guillaumine.

Bishop Jean-Chistophe Carpentier finished his spell, and the spymaster noticeable gains some color to his face. The priest leans close, speaking to the man in whispers.

Beatrice looks at Marcus. Her eyes seem nearly lined with tears ready to stream down her face. “We’re alive. Leave this to the others, people like us aren’t for moments like these.

Guillaumine hears Augustine and Reyes arguing:
Augustine: “No. That is final-
Reyes: “- Why’re are you afraid, what can they even do to me?
Augustine: “I’d rather not think of it. You will sit here, understand?

Mirabelle speaks to Halcyon. “Eet eez dangerous out zer, darling. Eef you die before we speak, I’d be most unhappy. ” The sylph stops trying to smile. “ Eet feels as though a storm eez coming.

Seth hears a snippet of the conversation between Sinclair and Darius:
Sinclair: “- Olivera! I didn’t know she was released! Catherine, find out when that happened, will you?
Darius: “And just as beautiful as I remember...

Romane once again pats herself, her wounds closing as she does, her burns fading away. “No one touches a Vieuxpont and gets away with it.” She yanks the spear from the nearby mercenary, looking to her younger brother Gerard. “B**** is mine, understand?”

Gerard grins widely. “Yours, but ain’t about to allow someone to hurt family and get away without some payback.

Gerome, the eldest Vieuxpont, looks to his siblings. “Uh, um, be, be careful, please?

Seth:
See Pascal Olivera for a check. Knowledge Noble.

Guillaumine:
Everyone is “healthy” nearby. You are able to spot a servant cowering behind the counter with your deathwatch ability, lying prone on the ground. Reyes is still not perceived by your magic. When you look at him, it is as if you are viewing him without your mask on. He is just there.

Seth darts passed those pressed against the wall, arriving at the exit to the warehouse.

To Seth:
Floating nearly thirty feet off the ground is a woman with long, strawberry-blonde hair that reaches to her calves. Even with amidst her grimace and even with her dirty, unflattering gray-brown blouse she wears, Pascal Olivera is mesmerizing, beautiful almost beyond reason.

Twenty foot high violet flames shoot skyward to the east and west, dancing the purple light over her figure, bestowing her an almost otherworldly glow. The woman grips at her shoulder, hand bloodied, and seems to struggle briefly with maintaining her flight.

Guillaumine approaches a fallen guest, relaying the status of the fallen to Verrill.

Gill:
Darius is healthy, while Sinclair and his secretary are fighting off death. To the west, Romane and a Guard appear to be fighting off death, though the other Vieuxpont children and Raphael all appear healthy.

Outside, you identify one guest as deceased (north of Gaston 5ft), and three others as in a fragile (those in in range, nearby) condition.

Raphael brings a glowing hand down to one of the fallen guests. As burns on her face begin to shrink, she spurs to life with a cacophony of coughs. Raphael strides forward as he hears the doctor, knowing Verrill is close behind. The lawyer meets Seth at the entrance, briefly looking to the sky and cursing under his breath.

Halcyon draws a card and shows it to Mirabelle. The sylph's mouth lowers ever so slightly. She doesn’t bother to respond before the seer exits.

To Halcyon:
While you can’t make out the exact source of the violet light, you can tell it to be both strong and towering from the shadows it casts upon Evelynn and the mercenary by the end of your vision. Despite the intensity of the light on Evelynn, she seems to be suffering no harm from her proximity to the purple glow.

If he feels that his familiar can understand that simple concept Marcus then throws the snake 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 6 - 4 = 8 a 5ft square has an AC of 5, so if this plan can work he does hit despite the fact that I'm not proficient in thrown snakes

Marcus balls the familiar into his hand, launching it into the already chaotic southern exit. While the creature scrambles momentarily, lost in the scene or perhaps disoriented from its flight, it does begin to slither towards an unconscious guest and use the spell it was storing.

1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

The guest turns over, apparently in great pain. While he almost crushes the familiar, the creature is able to move in time.

Guards

One of the mercenaries brings the guest they carry further into the warehouse. After dropping them on counter of the bar, she mobilizes back towards the southern exit.

The injured mercenary addresses her wounds, procuring a small potion and drinking it.

Another mercenary steps towards the flames, holding their hand out towards the shimmering violet wall. They nearly touch it to no effect.

The other armored mercenaries set up their watch by the largest gatherings of guests. The appear prepared to protect those close.

Seth and Raphael watch the woman take a brief second to regain control over her flight. She resumes her balance and glares down at the halfling on the horse who shot her. The walls of purple flames on her left and right flicker, almost seeming they were to disappear, though persist as she steadies her breath.

The woman curls a smile. ”I don’t like men who play with toys.” With a quick spin, she stretches her arm out at the Halfling. The pistol he grips begins to glow softly as he lines up another shot. Suddenly, a white light bursts from the gun.

Everyone may make a check on knowing Pascal, though you will not know who is outside until you hear her name / see her. For those who have been part of aristocracy in Roland for some part of their life, they may even have had direct interactions with her 3+ years ago. Always feel free to weave some backstory into new NPCs.

Guests

Vincent tumbles over the stage, running down the aisle between the chairs to join the fight. It doesn’t take him long to join those in the center of the warehouse.

Verrill follows Guillaumine’s instructions, moving towards one of the downed guests. The ratfolk alchemist drops a handful of vials to the floor, quickly looking through them to determine which is needed.

Beatrice dashes after Marcus. “Wait! Wait!” She has a bit of difficulty getting over the counter, though drops down beside Marcus and a caterer who had a similar idea. She arrives just after Marcus throws his snake into the crowd, her face twisted in confusion. She gives him a quick push, "that isn't helping!"

Mirabelle rises to her feet, and walks up the steps onto the stage.

Sinclair walks towards the eastern wall, the woman trailing him takes out potions for him to consume, despite his assurances that he is fine.

Darius Agnes looks at the doctor briefly, smiling at her before dashing across the warehouse. It seems he means to leave the scene, and doesn't intend to risk his life further by bringing in the injured.

The man Marcus' familiar revived rose to his feet (again almost squashing the snake) and took a staggered pace inside.

Gaston loads his pistol with another round, steadies his pony, and aims another shot towards the woman in the sky. Before he can shoot however, a blinding white light shines from his weapon. He cries out, blinded from the burst of light, falling off of his steed.

Gerard and Romane seem ready to assist in the fight. The intense light from Pascal's spell catches Gerard off guard however. His hands quickly shoot up to his face, his body curls to the ground amidst his cursing.

The mercenary close to the exit and Raphael both seem to be temporarily blinded by the light as well. The lawyer, grabs the metal wall for stability.

Seth manages to avoid the light, turning away quickly, saving his sight. All those around him however, were either blinded or unconscious, save for a lone Alexander Ravenhall who seems to be running frantically in circles.

If the master is 3rd level or higher, a familiar can deliver touch spells for him. If the master and the familiar are in contact at the time the master casts a touch spell, he can designate his familiar as the “toucher.” The familiar can then deliver the touch spell just as the master would. As usual, if the master casts another spell before the touch is delivered, the touch spell dissipates.

When you chucked the snake, it was allowed as you were casting CLW while Sheesh was within touch range. You moved behind the table, cast the spell on Sheesh to deliver, Sheesh moved to the guest and applied the touch. Now that the snake is away, it is unable to be a conduit for your spells as per Deliver Touch Spells. You may change your action as needed.

For Guillaumine:
Z12 is fighting off death, all other unnamed guests outside are dead. The servant to the east is fragile. Alexander Ravenhall is registering as neither dead nor alive, a phenomenon he earlier didn’t display.

Despite being somewhat wounded, the guest Guillaumine points to nods at her curt orders, stammering out a response. “Y-Yes, um, they’ll, they’ll be safe, doctor.” They lower slightly, preparing to take the unconscious guest to the eastern wall.

Raphael, though blinded, seems to also react well to the doctor’s words. He falls to his knees, crawling forward with a hand out. The lawyer touches the guest, and gives a quick prayer to heal them.

The guest attempts to get up, hobbling at Raphael's touch.

Halcyon peeks the corner, her mirror ablaze with vivid purple flames grasping at the sky. The oracle can make out nothing past the violet curtain, though the smell of burning bodies is apparent.

Strangely, Halcyon hardly feels the heat of the flames, and it appears that neither do the armored Evelynn or mercenary,

For Halcyon:
The spell seems to be a Wall of Fire though the warehouses seems to cut the spell from reaching it’s full length. You know that when cast, one direction from the flames gives off a searing heat while the other does not. You reason that the smell of burnt clothing, hair, and flesh must be on the other side of the flaming wall.

You know that the spell is difficult to cast, and requires concentration to maintain.

You can sense a hesitance from Evelynn, though the mercenary seems almost ready to pass through the purple fires.

The Exchange

Male Kitsune Bard (thunderstriker) 1

just to be clear. The viper was able to heal one person, but would be incapable of healing someone else without coming back to me and by that point anyone else who needs healing would already be dead yes?
Marcus calls to his familiar and tells it to come back to him.

Seth takes a step forward, and grabs the man next to Gaston and tries to pull them into the building. "Gill you have anything I can throw and use as a weapon?"

GM:

Seth will move once everyone else is out of the way to make moving the other man a little bit easier.

For Marcus:
Yes, Sheesh took the CLW you cast, then moved to heal the then-fallen individual. Your snake needs to be at your touch to become the conduit for your touch spells, either at the time of their casting or before dispelled. You could move towards the snake, cast on it, and have it double move to deliver. Essentially, should your snake be in your square of 5ft away from you when you cast CLW, its movement can take the spell another 40' by being the deliverer of the spell.

Now that the snake is back to your person, you can cast a touch spell and have Sheesh deliver on its next turn. Keep in mind that if you cast another spell before the viper delivers the touch spell, its held spell is wasted.

Seth:
By next to do you mean East, Northeast or Southwest?

Treat all guests as allies for the purposes of movement. So long as you do not drop the guest in another's square or end your turn within one of their squares, you need not be hindered. As the person is either helpless or dead, treat them like an object you are lifting rather than a combatant you need to drag. I'd say they are probably around 150lbs, so your carrying capacity might limit how you carry them.

The viper returns to its master after resuscitating the guest. Though it narrowly avoids being stepped on, it reaches Marcus without any apparent damage.

Complete update should follow tomorrow evening. Updates should become more regular as I get more used to the job.

Guards

As Halcyon identifies the spell reflected in her mirror, the mercenary by the curtain of purple flames charges forward. As she passes beyond the flames, her screams indicate her armor does little to protect her.

The blinded mercenary shuffles backwards into the warehouse, spear pointed out the door as she retreats.

Seeing the approaching sylph, the mercenary on the stage departs, attempting to reinforce their number.

The others remain stationary inside, calling out to the guests: “Leave the entrance, you’re still in danger!

Hostile Forces

Pascal points a finger down towards the blinded Halfling guard, though stops her spell midst a chant. Instead she turns to the east, and erupts into an amber flame. As she descends to the ground, the earth she approaches flares up, forming a burning trail behind her.

Between the crackles of flames, those nearby hear her angrily remarking about being “stood up” by her date. She bends the corner of the alley, though the flaming trail gives away her location.

Guests

With hardly a pause from Guillaumine’s order, one of the guests begin to move an unconscious member away from the scene.

Romane Vieuxpont fights the urge to chase after Pascal, instead striking her younger brother, demanding that he open his damn eyes. Gerard continues to curse, mirroring the sentiments of his sister after she was wounded.

Verrill looks over the guest on the floor. He shakes his head as he grabs a vial from the floor and dribbles it’s contents into the unconscious man’s mouth. The ratfolk appears surprised when the man doesn’t even stir after imbibing the potion.

Darius dashes out of the warehouse, his quick movements leading him to an alley within seconds, right behind an Oread woman.

Mirabelle arrives at the spymaster, dropping to her knees to listen to him ramble. Luc grabs her hand, forcing a grin as he drones.

While Gaston rolls on the ground blinded, the pony remains exceptionally calm. Fortune approaches their rider, waiting out his blindness.

Alexander Ravenhall vanishes from outside, merely winking out of existence. Either he was an illusion, or the man was suddenly teleported.

The walls of purple flames flicker, then blow away softly. While Pascal’s trail lingers behind her, following her steps and hindering those hot on her trail, it is otherwise a safe environment.

Four bodies stretch and contort painfully, burnt to the earth where the western flame-wall just stood. What skin hasn’t blackened and curled over has turned charred and ashen. Whatever frills and embroidery on their robes and dress has long since burned away, leaving only remnants of now ruined buttons and jewelry seared into the deceased. There is no blood to be cleaned of the streets.

Going to end combat. You may pursue, certainly Gaston will when he can see again, though otherwise feel free to act however you like. There are time sensitive matters such as those dying and injured, so do act accordingly. If you decide to pursue, we will do a little chase-sidebar.

Gill sees Seth approaching the body lying next to Gaston, "Don't bother, Seth. Everyone else out there is dead. Make yourself useful and give me a hand with the living." Gill turns and moves to the bar, where one of the last untreated wounded guests lies.

Producing a pad of clean cloth, she pats the burns dry and repeats the process once more. After drying the wounds once again, she produces new cloth pads and a roll of linen, placing the pads over the wounds and then wrapping the linen around the body to secure the pads. With the burns dressed, she digs into her pouch and produces a vial containing small greenish-yellow flakes. Prying open the guest's mouth, she carefully pours the flakes onto her tongue, then follows it up with some water, before holding her mouth shut. "This will help with the pain," she whispers.

Looking over her shoulder, she spots Seth. "Hurry up!" she calls to him. "And bring my smoked vial."

Halcyon moves through the dead bodies until she reaches Gaston. If he is wounded, she casts a cure light or cure moderate on him, depending on how badly he is wounded. If he is not wounded, she tries to calm him and help him recover his sight.

Did Halcyon learn anything from her spellcraft rolls about the spells or at least the type of magic being used?
