Fair enough.

Here is Lion's Background (also listed in Alias).

Lion was genetically selected and given special teachers to forge a tool to serve House Benetek. House Benetek was one of the first houses to explore a way through the Calixes Sector into the Koronus Expanse. House Benetek has a proud history stretching back to the foundations of the Imperium. In expectation of the role that Lion would serve the House, he was given the name of three Primarchs to better ensure the God-Emperor's favour. Lion was for this reason named Lion Rogel Guilliman Benetek.

Growing up as a future Scion, Lion was carefully tested and watched for signs of mutation or corruption. When he was determined to be fit enough to serve the House as a potential Scion in the upper reaches of the Imperium, he was sent to the most prestigious of Academics to ensure a proper introduction to society. During this time, he was given a compulsory assignment with the Military as a Flag Lieutenant. It was expected that Lion would serve several years with the Battlefleet before accepting a proper post with the Administratium for a Sector.

Completing the required initial studies, Lion was sent for further education to an Imperial World. He was like many learning the trappings of pilgrimage rather than the burning faith of the true Missionary. He again worked hard under the direction of his household forging the links that would be important in later service to his household. He was also again inspected to make sure that his genetic health was pure of any mutation other than the Navigator's Third Eye. Lion would never receive the church's seal of purity but he was considered fit and pure to serve his household and the Imperium.

It was during this period on an Imperial World that tragedy struck the Benetek family and it's fortunes. The heavy investment and connections the family had forged with the Tellurium Combine had exposed it to the Brotherhood of the Horned Darkness. It was fortunate that Inquisition did not declare the whole house of Benetek Ex-Communicated. Many of the senior members of the Navigators and their charts were seized by the church leaving only a few of the house in disarray to reforge the foundations of the family.

Lion spent much of his early career in fear of the Inquisition deciding that after the initial sweep of people from the Benetek family that it would grab the others or send someone from the Officio Assassinorum to remove any more potential problems. The Imperium needs Navigators and a trusted line of Navigators is often far better then the Navigators now being bred in the outer reaches of the Imperium with unchecked mutations. Lion was also well vouched for his connections to the Ecclesiarchy and Imperial Navy.

Lion chose that for the near future to be safe that he would travel far from the Inquistion and Officio Assassinorum into the far reaches of the Imperium. He followed in the path of his Great Uncle that had found the passage into the Koronus Expanse.

Lion took service with a Merchant House that had dealt with his house and been part of the initial expansion and survey of the Koronus Expanse. It was a house of long history and Lion hoped to find a comfortable berth while learning the skills of Commerce and Barter that he would need to take the head of the Benetek fortunes and return the house to glory.

The Merchant House fearing the association that Lion would bring from his families recent losses to the Inquisition were only too happy to attach him to a Rogue Trader as part of a bargain to provide provisions and support for a delivery to a world besieged.

Change made to include a forearm powerblade as a free aquisition and trained to get Awareness (100xp). (see profile)

Well, here is a draft of my character then, some background, let me know if it is good enough.
Once that is done I'll make the final rolls for wounds and such and then I'm guessing he's done?

Sovereign Court

Looks good to me- final rolls + kit out your servitor (I think it gets three options, one of which is auspex, one is medic the third I cannot recall.)

I spotted this trailer for the new Ultramarines movie. You might find it inspiring for those not familiar with the 40K Universe.

Ultramarine trailer

Alright, here are the rolls, which has been added to the profile, Servo skull is also kitted out fully.

Rolls:

Wounds:1d5 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Insanity:2d5 + 1 ⇒ (4, 2) + 1 = 7
Fate:1d10 ⇒ 7

Sovereign Court

Smerg any chance you can make an alias for the Demetrius Dervish? I think its best if the alias isn't in the hands of the GM :P.

So i'm waiting to inspect the aliases for the RT and Void Master I think.

Yeah, I should finish with the character today. It's a bit difficult for me, since this is my first non-DnD character and I am sure that I will make a lot of mistakes. It will be ready for inspection soon.

Is it alright to use this Alias for the Oathsworn Bodyguard?

I used it in a Dark Heresy game that I used to play in.

Sovereign Court

Sure.

Note that Minerva's background makes her a bodyguard for the RT - feel free to include her in your background (see background spoiler in my profile)

Alexander, I have taken Tainted as my Birthright and paid 200 XP to get Ravaged Body mutation. I've got five mutations and rolled for them. Is this all OK?

Afraid not. Especially with Hellspawn, you'd be simply unable to perform as a Rogue Trader with those mutations.

Sovereign Court

Something easily concealable like Tough Hide or Feels no Pain is fine for instance, but corpulent and hellspawn aren't.

Alexander Kilcoyne wrote:

Okay, do I choose two other, reroll, or choose another Birthright?

Sovereign Court

You can keep Nightsider and Tough Hide.

How does your character manage his Necrophage? I'm wavering on this one.

Re-roll Corpulent and Hellspawn.

Well, since I just rolled them, I haven't had the time to think something, but I planed to explain all the mutations by his background and influence of two gene-seeds on his family. Since Necrohage states that the character has to eat "copious amounts of raw meet", I planed to tie that to Space Wolves and simply eat huge amounts of tartar steak and similar dishes. I planed to explain other two mutations in similar way.

1d100 ⇒ 65

1d100 ⇒ 20

Okay, I've got Aberrant and Feel No Pain.

Sovereign Court

Thats fair enough but not even a Rogue Trader could get away with Hellspawn lol.

Nope- Feel no Pain is on 20 yes.

You have 65- which is Degenerate Mind.

Yeah. Sorry. I meant Degenerate Mind but I wrote Aberrant. Okay, rolling 1d10 ⇒ 1 1d10 ⇒ 7 that's -1 to Int and Fellowship and the Fearless talent, right.

Sovereign Court

-1 Int, -7 Fellowship.

One more roll for the mental effect (frenzy, fearless, from beyond).

Oh, somehow I thought that there is only one roll for penalties. Stupid. Here it goes. 1d10 ⇒ 10

Dark Archive

1d100 ⇒ 9 reroll 1d100 ⇒ 61

Sovereign Court

Nightflier ONLY:

Ok. I'll be frank- I don't think that Ravaged Body should be one of the pickable ones. I'm going to let it slide but with a warning that the downsides of your mutation will not be easy to hide. Heres what I propose and what I want you to consider-

This will be a very difficult route to go with your character, and should anyone find out, not even your status as a Rogue Trader will be enough to stop certain organisations taking a vested interest in you- be it Chaos, the Inquisition, or others. Your character likely has extreme concerns about the taint, and no doubt the warp has left its mark on him in more ways than just physical.

I'm going to require you to take the "Fear" motivation from Into The Storm (treat it as a free choice row if necessary) for 100XP. I'm also going to require you to take the lineage 'A Dark Secret' for 100XP, with the secret being your hideous mutations.

I'd also like you to provide me with a fairly detailed Demetrius 'line of succession' in case your character should end up unable to continue to steer the helm of the Dynasty at any point.

Provided your happy with these steps, I truly look forward to seeing the finished character. If its not agreeable to you, we'll hit the rewind button and you can pick your lure of the void again. I would genuinelly be happy with the character if you agreed to these choices, but otherwise I fear I would not be happy to GM for him.

Sovereign Court

Nightflier:

Oh one another thing- your character would have to have Frenzy rather than Fearless or 'From Beyond'. From Beyond simply ruins too much for me to let it fly, and fearless does the same. Frenzy is amazing for a melee character anyway.

Sovereign Court

nightflier wrote:

What are these rolls for sorry? I'm ok with Necrophage.

Edit: When I mentioned fear, i meant Enemy In Ascendance specifically.

To be honest, I'm learning this as I go. I found the mutations at I came to this idea of half-pirate antihero type of character. I will do what you think is best, since I really don't know the rules for the setting and I do not know what can I expect as a player and what will your challenges be as a GM. So, whatever you think best.

Nightflier:

I think you've rolled some interesting mutations, and I hate to mess up character concepts. I think with the steps I outlined for you in my first spoiler- go ahead and give the character the mutations! It positively reeks of role-play opportunity, but I feel that it needed the Fear motivation and the Dark Secret lineage to really pull it off.

Also, both Fearless and From Beyond are incredibly problematic for me as a GM. Frenzy however, is fine- so we'll give you that one.

I haven't been meaning to come across like i'm berating you or anything :).

I'm happy with my character and won't make any changes, but I do have one question for further references, say he gets killed or taken out some other way, would it acctually be possible to play say an Ork Freebooter?

Well, since I don't really know what anything of those do, I'm fine with whatever you decide. This character creation is very much blind process for me. I am going down the list and taking stuff that seem appropriate. And since I am used to knowing every little detail about DnD, this is kinda both liberating and frustrating at the same time. I'm gonna go with your suggestions and change some other things as well. And everything is OK, man. I did ask for your advice and as GM I know that certain choices presented in the rules can be problematic.

Haha, poooossibly but unlikely.

Nightflier:

Ok, if you want my decision go with the mutations and take the steps I outlined.

Fear motivation (enemy in ascendancy)
Lineage- Dark Secret

trust me- this character NEEDS the Paranoia talent, and this gives it to him.

Finally, from degenerate mind you get what you rolled except replace from beyond with frenzy.

Haha, fair play, I just loved the Ork Mekboy, and especially the Worky Gubbinz!

Woah, lots of posts.

Just another inspirational video.

Mutant freak!!!! - Kill the hellspawn!,...

Ummm, with regards to equipment, is it possible to swap out automatic starting equipment for something else of equal rarity?

Specifically, Armoured Bodyglove i/o Light Carapace Armour?

Also,... if i might suggest a COLOUR SCHEME for the Deathwolves?

Sovereign Court

Afraid your restricted to starting gear + your one acquisition.

There will be plenty of times you can make acquisitions once youget the ball rolling though :).

Nightflier whats the rest of your origin path etc.?

I had to report to work because of an emergency. Well, not exactly "to work", since I work at home, but certain colleague of mine didn't finish her job, so now I must do it for her. I've been working on it all night and I have some ways to go before I can finish, so I've been doing my character between editing two chapters. Anyway, I think I can get the character all done by tomorrow evening CET, so that we can begin play come Monday.

Sovereign Court

Unlucky about the work stuff. I'm working frantically myself on a progress report. It doesn't look likely that Turnage will have his character ready by monday but i'll keep you informed. Don't worry too hard about getting the character finished yet :)

I do worry, since I think that this character has a lot of RP opportunities built in him, and it is my first game of any kind in any of the Warhammer universes. By the way, are you familiar with fantasy WHM?

Sovereign Court

Yes, all three editions :). 2nd Ed is still preferable to me though.

I love the fluff of the world and I would love the play in it. What do you think of running the game some time next year, perhaps?

Sovereign Court

Could definitely do it, but not until either-

One of my current PbP's finishes.

I finish my degree.

kk, I will look into this.

Nightflier, Smerg etc.:

I had a quick look at your character (i hope that's ok?) and i think you made the same mistake as me with the origin path.

You can only select one directly down from the origin chosen at each level or the one either side of that, so that:

If you choose "Child of Dynasty" as your homeworld you must choose from:
"Vaunted", "Savant", "Fringe Survivor", or "In Service to the Crown" as your Birthright. and so-on down the table (not including career or lineage of which any can be chosen).

I think i have this right?

He used free choice row to get tainted and fear is a motivation available to any character, it works out ok although it looks odd :).

Sovereign Court

Looking back at my character, I need a focus for my hatred. What type of enemy would chaos forces fall under? Under the hatred trait, I didn't see anything that would fit.

Sovereign Court

I think thats because Chaos is so broad and covers so much, if you narrowed it down to a reasonable focus like Forces of Chaos (their military arm) or Chaos Cultists (insurgents rising up to try and take a world from inside) that would work.
