level 2 Diplomacy check with Ameiko.
"Since I have some spare time Ameiko, atleast let me help you out in the kitchen. I could wash some dishes. It is the least I can do for you since you have shown us such hospitality."
[dice=Diplo]1d20+4
Accounting for the bonus for making her laugh about the dishes, that a +1 increase to go from 8 to 9 with her.
Zeriax
Ok, so 5 means friendship correct? If so I will use my point from level up, to raise the 4 to a 5 ;)
Belor_JCS
The next morning, the Sheriff returns to town, and joins the group for breakfast. Only the halfling is serving. Ameiko is no where to be seen. It's unusually quiet.
Good morning, men. I spoke with the Mayor early this morning. She told me about the Glassworks and nobleman Kaijitsu. Seems like you all have been busy, and things may be even more dangerous than we originally thought. Good job holding down the fort while I was gone.
His face looks a bit more sullen. Unfortunately, Magnimar can't lend much help. They seem to be a bit short handed at the moment, dealing with a bugbear problem to the south and a drake or three to the east. So, hopefully you have better news for me. We're you able to find out anything new about the goblins and their plans?
Thornborn
Kinda gone a few hours here without any further comments, so it must be time to move this along...
I've been fighting uphill here, hope to catch up. Looks like because I didn't push to get in diplomacy, bad stuff happened, and now we'll be too busy to make it right. Feeling not so much the hero.

There's no doors closed, par se, since this morning. It's not like Ameiko has gone anywhere. I just don't want things to drag on and not move. You're welcome to do any relationship diplo rolls, and if you want to talk to an NPC right before or after Belor's visit, the result really won't be any different than had you done it the time of. (In fact, it may be better depending on what it is)

Good to see you back Sheriff. Aside from the glassworks, things around town have been pretty quiet. We think that might be likely to change however.
A journal we found indicated a much more precise and insidious plan to attack the town. There are a number of notable individuals mentioned including a quasit we were able to defeat but not destroy and a bugbear who may be a leader of sorts within the Thistletop goblins.
They intended to attack on two fronts - from the river and the glassworks. We may have changed their plans in some regard but the threat is still very real. Zeriax and Shalelu have been scouting the movements of the goblins. I'll let them fill you in on that.
Emrys retakes his seat, surprisingly serious for a change.
Zeriax
Zeriax recounts the details of what he and Shalelu were able to discern from the area where the Thistletop goblins are set up, their will to investigate it further, and the possible avenues of approach.
Belor_JCS
Ah, I feared as much. It sounds like you guys are set on tackling this issue head on, eh? I have to say, men, you never cease to amaze me. But, I don't want you to face the threat alone.
As I mentioned, I couldn't get much help from Magnimar, but they didn't send me away completely empty handed. Apparently, a few months ago, they caught a thief in the house of one of the noblemen. The reports indicated that he took out several of the guardsman before he went down. He was careful, though. There were no deaths. The young man would have spent more time in jail, but the constable, Issacot, said that he was pretty cooperative.
I think the constable has a soft spot, myself. But it's the boy's first offense. In talking with him, the constable says that its clear the he's a greedy little runt looking for some quick cash, but a talented one with light weapons. And, he's good at picking locks. Managed to pick the jail thrice while he was bored. With a fork, no less. Though, he never left his cell.
Issacot believes that with the right influence, maybe he'll see the straight way is the best one. Or, at least see that a legal, risky life of something like an adventurer is a better way to riches than spending one's life in jail. We need help, and I owe the constable there a favor. He's never let me down in the past. If he says someone can be of help, they usually are.
I could put him to work here in Sandpoint, but as you all know, there's little gold in that. I talked to the young man myself, and when I mentioned the goblin bounty and the gold rewards we have here, he immediately looked interested. Could I convince you to take him with you to address this goblin threat?
Zeriax
Zeriax states plainly - "Has the boy finished the sentence for his crimes?"
Belor_JCS
He has. The constable has signed of on an early release based on his good behavior. Technically, he could go anywhere he wants, but when I mentioned the goblin problem and the...payment involved, he volunteered to come back to Sandpoint with me. Issacot also feels that if the boy was given some direction...a sense of purpose, he might become a credit to society. Without it, he might slip back into using illegal means to get what he seeks out of life.
Megekki
Rumors of Ameiko:
Megekki's mask hid his face. Megekki envied his face.
"Megekki was part of this. Tell, what is it, Lanalee says? What can she say, that is shame to you? You are brave, and wise, and clever. Where is shame?"
I guess Meg's going to need to Diplo and level-point Ameiko, even just for mercy's sake. dip+0: 1d20 ⇒ 3. Awesome.
Megekki
The Adventure-furlough Program:
"Already, praise is turned to poison. Another to know, is another to talk. And already, so much pain, and pain, and more, for brave Ameiko. Another to fight is good, but Megekki wants no more pain."
Ameiko_JCS
Rumors of Ameiko:
"Megekki was part of this. Tell, what is it, Lanalee says? What can she say, that is shame to you? You are brave, and wise, and clever. Where is shame?"
Assuming this happened during her outburst earlier.
You!? You told her? Why would tell her that? What did you hope to gain? What did she pay you to loose your lips! I mean...what were you thinking? That I want the shameful acts that my family has done published in the Chronicles? I...
At this point, her halfling friend walks to her. Mistress. Please. Do not work yourself up. I'm sure your friend meant no harm. You know how Lanilee twists people. Please...
*Now* she goes up to her room.
Megekki
Megekki asks the halfling, "What did Megekki say? Shameful acts? Of family...?" Megekki 'writes' on one palm with a finger of the other hand. "Father dies. No shame. Brother is shame, yes. But more shame to hide this. More shame to feel shame. Ameiko is too good. Shame is wrong for her."
After a moment, Megekki goes to Ameiko's closed door.
Perhaps a bit too loud, but allowing for the door, Megekki says, "Megekki is here. Here to say this. Then he goes. These are the words, Megekki said. To honor, not to shame. But Megekki is not wise. Not smart. Not clever words. And not seeing shame, to step around. Megekki says this:"
Megekki proceeds to repeat verbatim, complete with the pantomimes, his recount of the events as given in that other tavern.
More softly, at the door, (or to her, if she's opened the door), he says, "Mayor says, no goblins. So no goblins. Never was said, no father, no brother. Tried to ask. But did not know."
Then he leaves.

The halfling answers Megekki, Well, Ameiko comes from a noble Tian family. For the most part, she distances herself from it... at least the noble part. Ameiko is a noblewoman, whether she likes it or not. She certainly doesn't act like one. I mean...
The old halfling trails off for a moment, when her eyes suddenly perk back up. Oh, right. Shame. Sorry, lost my train of thought. I don't think Ameiko feels shame...not in the way a typical noble does, anyway. No. She's just upset, Megekki. There are a lot of people talking bad about her now, and she's feeling a bit embarrassed at the whole thing. Ameiko has always been somewhat of a private person. She's only told me a few things about her past in strict confidence. I just imagine it's all overwhelming to her right now, and she fell back on some of that language that she was raised with. "Shame" really isn't the right word to describe her feelings right now, Megekki. Just...just give it some time.
She pats you on the knee as she gets up to tend to the empty bar.
As you talk through the door later, it doesn't open. She doesn't say anything. You don't see her the next morning either.
So, the math works out a bit interesting here. You lose two points when Ameiko finds out you started this (But if you choose to pursue a friendship with Lanilee, you start off with 2 more). That drops the friendship score with Ameiko to 6. Your got a 3 ... with a +4 bonus from honest effort RP, brings it to 7. The DC is the score, so you beat it. Your relationship is currently 7 with Ameiko now. At least it will be once she cools off :P
Megekki
Lanilee wasn't on your list. I had expected something beside Lanilee running right off with her juicy gossip. Meg's feeling pretty ill-used. No, I don't expect I'll waste any more of my posting time. Lanilee looks worse of a dead end than Jubrayl. Unless he was running out to rob the glassworks, I guess.
Zeriax

Issacot also feels that if the boy was given some direction...a sense of purpose, he might become a credit to society. Without it, he might slip back into using illegal means to get what he seeks out of life.
"Very well then, I agree in taking the boy with us - I will not tolerate any ill actions toward us, if he understands that clearly we should get along just fine - I believe everyone deserves an opportunity to improve his ways - however, I will defer to the group decision on this one, as always"
Turning to the group he adds - "I also believe we should leave tomorrow morning, now that the sheriff has returned, to continue our investigation of the Thistletop goblin tribe"
Zeriax will look for Shayliss on that same day - "I am probably leaving tomorrow - we need to investigate further if there are any further threats to Sandpoint before we can relax. I wanted to let you know, you are not forgotten Shayliss - I hold you very close to my half-breed heart. You are a free spirit, and if ever anything breaks that freedom, it will break what Shayliss is, and that would be the worst thing that could happen. I know you do not understand my ways, they are alien to you, probably as alien as the concept of friendship with the opposite gender, but this is what I am - for me, nothing else can truly be without friendship, and I hope you will come to understand that eventually... You do not understand what my heritage has dragged me through before... No, actually I will not use my fiendish heritage as an excuse - what I have dragged myself through before. I will not do it again, no matter what. But I will come looking for your free spirit when I come back" - Zeriax tone becomes more serious, and his eyes flare - "I expect not to find disappointment, whether I find a friend or more it does not matter, but it matters that we offer each other the respect we deserve"
Standing up, he kisses her gently on the cheek, his skin burning from the inner fire he can never shake away, and turns to leave.
Stopping midway, he turns back, eyeing the girl squarely - "I will also understand, if you decide NOT to understand, but I expect more" - then he smiles - "But I will surely bring you a gift from my travels"
"Take care of yourself while I am gone young lady"

Interesting. Sounds like the kid has some skills we could certainly use. I'm with Zeriax though, if he puts any of us at risk through his actions or by omission of action, we're done. I don't have eyes in the back of my head and haven't really got time to research a spell that might provide them.

Brenton, who, exactly are you talking to? (Might want to mention that).
Hardegon
A young lad, with a light scruff on his face, shuffles meekly through the doorway, eyes averted. He stands a little under six feet tall, with a medium frame, sandy brown hair and hazel eyes. His clothing is rather nondescript, but you think you see the hilts of daggers barely poking out from here and there on his person. He glances at the the group furtively and then turns to the barkeep and asks Yathaposhepoz demerima wafoquod? Kexack equebozel revachagiquoy kuthashish.
Emrys Adamae
|
Emrys walks to the bar beside the newcomer.
Im Emrys. he offers his hand. I dont know what you just said but if you're talking to the barkeep its likely a drink. he turns and addresses the man behind the bar. Whatever he just asked for, ill have the same. Don't worry, its on me. So... Long trip?
He's even younger than I thought he'd be
Hardegon
Hardegon reaches for the outstreched hand and shakes it slowly. Thank you sir...I am Hardegon, most recently from Magnimar. As the barkeep brings him his ale, he grasps the cup with both hands and drinks it approvingly. With the back of his hand, he wipes the foam mustache from his upper lip.
For someone like you who has probably criss-crossed the world many times over, I am sure it would not seem to be a long trip. I, however, have never been outside of the walls of Magnimar. While it was a long trip for me, it was nonetheless enjoyable to see new sights and sounds...
Megekki
"Do you need things?", Megekki asks the young Varisi, in orcish gruffness. "Armor? Weapons? You should know first, there is no one here who does all the fighting. But all here do fight. Spears, we try. One very good archer. And Brenton and Megekki, make a wall to fight behind. Or try to. Where are you, when the fight comes?"
Megekki asks for a checker or a chess set at the bar, or improvises, to audit or to teach the boy's grasp of team tactics.
"Because new sights and sounds, some try to be the last."
Hardegon
Hardegon tries not to stare too obviously. I guess that depends on the foe. In the slums of Magnimar, a broken piece of glass wrapped in cloth was all that I ever needed to intimidate someone into giving me what I wan..., err I mean what belonged to me. He looks away, obviously embarrassed.
He continues, You are probably NOT talking about street rats and common thugs, are you?
Zeriax
"No rats, but scum nonetheless" - the tiefling approaches Hardegon and bows shortly - "Welcome to our assembly - I am Zeriax"
Megekki
"So far... half-devil, whole devil, goblin-and-a-half, little demons made from anger, big demon made from anger, little flying demon, many goblins. Mayor says, not talk of goblins, worry makes for town. Demons, devils, no worry, people think you lie. You not lie. We can show you, dead parts."
Hardegon
"Welcome to our assembly - I am Zeriax"
Well met sir, I am Hardegon.
Demons? Devils? I have heard tales of them but always thought they were just stories to make little kids mind their folks. They really exist? A worried look crosses his face. So how does someone best a devil?
Brenton Demurri
"Silver weapons seems to have been popular. But hopefully we won't run into anymore of those sinspawn. But you can never be too sure." Brenton answers Hardegon.
"Father Brenton Demurri,"[b] he introduces himself. [b]"It's nice to have some help, I tended to get myself in quite a bit of trouble."[b] He leans into Hardegon's ear to whisper. [b]"Someone needed to establish a defensive wall."
He speaks up loud enough for the others to hear again. "It would be nice to have someone to stand with us against this danger against the goblins and ..." he looks around to make sure no one else from the party hears, but notices the empty bar, "and necromancer."
You gather from Brenton that he hopes to have you well armored.
Hardegon
Silver weapons? Anything else? I DO need to go make some purchases to better equip myself. Is there some sort of armory or weaponsmith nearby where I could find what I need. I do have some weaponry, but it sounds like I will need more than a "rat sticker", he grins.
Belor_JCS
The Sheriff Answers Hardegon first.
Savah’s Armory is about a quarter mile on the right. She probably has what you need.
And then Shalelu.
Unfortunately, most of their men are tied up. Though Hardegon here has agreed to help out our newest band of heroes who are already making plans to move against them.
Belor_JCS
It may be just as well if the source of the problems is in Thistletop. That place would be hard to assail with a large force. Shalelu, while our new friends move in on them, and the boys and I secure the town for a possible attack from other clans, can I get you to do another scouting run? We can't afford to get blindsided while some of our best men are several hours away.
Shalelu_JCS
Her face remains without any noticeable emotion, outside of the determination in her eyes.
Absolutely, Sheriff. If any of the other goblin clans make a move in this direction while they are gone, you will be the first to know.
Suddenly, her eyes widen, just a little, yet her eyes are still completely green. She says, Where is Ameiko?, to no one in particular.
Hardegon
Hardegon takes his leave and navigating this new town as best he can, he wanders to Savah's Armory to make purchases.
This is where I will purchase the 2 MW shortswords that I have on my sheet. I would like to make one silvered and the other cold iron, if I can gleam from Savah that cold iron is a good option to have. I will also pick up my armor here.
Megekki
Suddenly, her eyes widen, just a little, yet her eyes are still completely green. She says, Where is Ameiko?, to no one in particular.
"Megekki tells the story. Brave story, but dead father. Sad story, but evil brother. And wise Ameiko, brave again, but Lanalee says it different, and...", gesturing to the empty room, Megekki continues, "... there is no one. Ameiko speaks of shame. Megekki, not so good to understand. Only regret, pain for Ameiko."
Zeriax
Noticing Shalelu's interrogtion, Zeriax pipes in - "Actually, she has been in her room for some time now..."
Ninjaed by the witch doctor :D
Hardegon
Hardegon browses over the goods found in the armory and as he makes eye contact with the proprietor, he says Greetings! Are you the one called Savah? I have need of weapons and armor and I was told that the quality of work that you do exceeds that of many a Magnimarian weaponsmith!
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
I heard tell that weapons can be made of special metals that can prove most effective in combating a variety of nasty little critters. Silver perhaps? Do any other materials come to mind?

As you walk in, you see a short, stocky lady polishing some armor. She has read hair and turns around as you enter. Her large green eyes seem in proportion to her generous girth. Welcome, luv. What can I do for yah?
She listens to your request.
Well, ya have a silver tongue about ya, don't yah? Tryin' ta get a discount off of meh? Well, worry not. Ya always get muh best prices here. Now, you say you wanna deal with little critters? If yer talkin' about goblins, you'll some somethin' with a little reach. As far as special metals... well, sometimes fancy adventurers ask me to coat their weapon in silver, or to cast it out of cold iron to deal with demons and the such. Once, I even had a richer one ask me to make 'im one made of adamanteen...but dat was mighty expensive. Ah...
She looks at you a little more closely.
My oh my. They got y'all fightin' at a younger age these days, don't dey? Heh. Well, neveryoumind. What would ya like?
Hardegon
Well, neveryoumind. What would ya like?
Well, I definitely want a silver weapon...as he pokes around in his money pouch but that cold iron sounds nifty as well. I was thinking of a couple of really nice short blades, one of silver and the other of that cold iron you mentioned. I could also use some sort of armor, but nothing too big and bulky.
He spies a chain shirt amongst several pieces of armor displayed in the shop. How about something like this? I bet I could still move around in this.
